Reviews for Bishopsgate House Hotel

Review 1:We had to leave

Review 2:They went out of their way to keep the Resturant open as we were traveling from Scotland, and would have got there after it would have closed. We were not rushed and offered full Ala Carte menu and a true pet friendly hotel We will be back and a Thank you to all the staff

Review 3:More vegetarian options in the restaurant please.

Review 4:Well placed in centre of beautiful Beaumaris. Lovely building full of character. Staff all very helpful and eager to please.

Review 5:Lovely staff - very helpful and welcoming. . We arrived much later than expected due to awful traffic and the manager was very accommodating and we enjoyed a lovely meal in spite of it being gone 9.00pm. Obviously freshly cooked, tasty and excellent quality. Thank you.

Review 6:We really liked the hotel. This is an old building on the main street of a medieval town, a short walk from one of the loveliest of the Edwardian castles of N Wales. The hotel has retained its Georgian features and character and has been sympathetically decorated. The communal areas include a guest-only bar and a lounge, with a choice of sofas upholstered chairs that should suit most backs, while both rooms have original fireplaces with real fires. The restaurant is a definite attraction, and one reason why we chose the hotel, hoping that we wouldn't have to go searching for dinner in the area, after a long day out. We stayed for 2 weeknights and, after our first meal, we had no hesitation 'staying in' on our second evening to try some of the other menu choices. The unlooked for bonus was the breakfast menu, with haddock and kippers both featuring as well as the traditional bacon/egg type combos...and, there was Proper Porridge! As expected, in a several-hundred year-old building, the upstairs layout is not quite regular in plan, occasional stair treads and floorboards creak, some floors slope, walls are not really straight and rooms are not quite square. Inserting en-suite bathrooms has made the bedrooms irregular in shape, but the furniture has been thoughtfully selected and place to suit the room created - in short, the rooms are singular and charming and far-removed from the modern practicality of chain hotel accommodation. The staff are friendly, helpful and efficient, and the atmosphere is informal: if you want a relaxed break with good food, in a delightful townhouse, this place is for you. There is a small car park, hidden behind the hotel, which is very important in a place with minimal on-street parking.

Review 7:The room was not the one promised. The bath was not clean. When we opened the wall cupboard in the room it contained very dusty rubbish. The sash windows were propped open with odd bits of wood. The basin light did not work. The plumbing was invasively noisy due to the macerator system which also emptied bathwater with repeated loud sucking noises which took a very long time.

Review 8:The bed was comfortable and clean. The water was very hot. Breakfast was nice. The staff agreed to our cancelling the second night because of our dissatisfaction with the room.

Review 9:Mouldy stink in "shower room" 1970s sink unit in small bedroom. Very dusty. Even after "deep clean" . Owner said it was principly a restaurant but even at breakfast fish was poor

Review 10:Location - beautiful town

Review 11:The fact that the window could not be closed to shut out any traffic noise at night.

Review 12:The meal in the restaurant was excellent. There was plenty of space in the bedroom and bathroom both of which were a very good size. May be a bit dated but all in a all a good place to stay.

Review 13:Beautiful location, excellent food, comfy bed and warm and friendly staff. Couldn't have asked for more. We will definitely be returning in the not too distant future.

Review 14:The breakfast menu was dismal for vegetarians and especially those with allergies to dairy projects and eggs. I was left with a choice of toast or toast. It would not be difficult to provide vegetarian sausages and hash browns or some fruit salad. Currently it is a very 1980's menu.

Review 15:Friendly hotel in a very nice location

Review 16:The hotel car park is a bit small & fidley, but only if you have a large car, and other guests have parked badly.

Review 17:We were made very welcome, including our two small dogs. The food was excellent, and the hotel is in a good central location.

Review 18:Room was small and a bit dated.

Review 19:Restaurant food was excellent. Had chef special of fillet steak. At breakfast there was no grapefruit left so I was offered fresh fruit which was excellent.

Review 20:Nothing bad at all but felt the £99 per night for B&B was excessive. I work away from home a lot and stay in some lovely hotels with gym facilities and can pay less than charged here. If it was £70 then it would have bee fair and God value.

Review 21:Lovely friendly staff and went out of their way to ensure I had some breakfast despite my early start being before official breakfast time. Comfortable room with coffee and tea facility. Had welcome chocolate and even a tipple of sherry!

Review 22:Only downside is that parking is a bit tight but no real problem as we know parking space is short in Beaumaris!

Review 23:A lovely old fashioned hotel in one of our favourite locations. Very comfortable and wonderful, friendly staff ready to help if you need it.

Review 24:just a small issue with the wifi could not always get a good signal in the room but the walls where so thick. Could not always get a signal with 3G or 4G so poor wifi better than nothing.

Review 25:Right in the centre of Beaumaris. Very convenient location. I will definitely be staying at this hotel again.

Review 26:Car Park Small and I had to park on a back street on double yellow lines. Room 3 which was the one I was given had very a low ceiling and eaves so if I had been 6ft and above I would have struggled in this room. Shower and toilet in the room was more like a cubical and very small.

Review 27:A nice but old fashion hotel type hotel

Review 28:Nothing special given this was quite expensive - staff attitude was "compliant" rather than welcoming

Review 29:Location good, and everything was generally OK

Review 30:The food was good but not cheap. A main course for two of us with one drink in the bar was £49. One set of towels were fraid and torn

Review 31:The room was a bit quirky because of the age of the hotel. It was central and had car parking. The service was very good and the staff friendly and helpful. Good size rooms and good seating and storage space

Review 32:everything about the room filthy dirty with dust everywhere. The most outdated fixtures and fittings,Very shabbily decorated. The jacuzzi was so dirty we would not use it.Biscuits and water not replenished at all The tv would not work at first we went to use one of the bath towels only to find it had brown staining on it.All this within the first half hour of arriving. No view from the rear facing windows. All this for £100 a night.

Review 33:the breakfast

Review 34:Unfortunately the shower cubicle was too cramped and I did not use it: principally because I worried that if I fell while using it, and being on the top floor, no-one would hear my calls for help. I am 77 and in good health but a walk in shower would have been better.

Review 35:Very friendly hotel with excellent staff, good food, easy access to buses and shops, plenty of information as to what to see and do.

Review 36:Last minute booking so we didn't expect excellent room but pleasantly surprised to have a pretty room with a sea view. Being three floors up made my husband puff a bit. The restaurant was excellent with some of the best food we have ever had. Very good value for money and we would certainly stay again.

Review 37:Car parking spaces are very small. Wi-FI is very weak

Review 38:Great location, helpful staff (who even upgraded us for free and were lovely to our dogs), bedrooms decorated to a high standard. The sea view was stunning!

Review 39:The room was a bit tired and in need of some TLC. Small bits of mould on the tiles, toilet seat with the remains of a sticker and a small burn mark. Paint splashes on the dado etc.

Review 40:The comfort

Review 41:De luxe room was very tired, only small window looking at Sky. Shower had been grouted by day and looked very unhealthy. Not used to this low level of room quality especially after the blurb on booking.

Review 42:Breakfast

Review 43:Hotel room was awful we paid £99 for a cramped twin room in the attic was nothing like the picture in your advert very dissapointed. All in all felt the room was over priced for the standard. Room with slanted ceiling on the mezzanine can not cost 100 pounds. There is no any view from the window. Internet does not take at all. Nearby hotels for the same price much better.

Review 44:The car parking was a nightmare. The WiFi was very intermittent in my room. No connection for my phone. I was visiting my wife in Bangor Hospital and could not communicate with her.

Review 45:I was given fresh milk in a flask for my coffee.

Review 46:This hotel single room wasn't the best. I kinda like the quirky feel though. The staff were really nice and made you feel really welcome. This is actually a big thing for people who stay away too much. I'd rather stay in places like this any day. £60 was really good value and again the people there were genuinely nice People who couldn't do enough for you. Breakfast was dealt with by younger staff. These were a fantastic representation for the business. thanks

Review 47:couldn't fault anything at all

Review 48:was in a spacious bedroom with a 4 poster bed and a bath, from all 3 windows we had sea views and you could see the mountains in the background, the restaurant was lovely and the evening meals and breakfast were of the highest standard.

Review 49:TV didn't get signal. Room small and shabby and not very clean. Hotel bar shut early in a Saturday night. Lounge area bit chilly and dark.

Review 50:Could stay there with our dog and eat in the bar with him. Restaurant was very good and wine/ service excellent. Informal, friendly, helpful with close parking to hotel.

Review 51:We didn't realize dogs were allowed. At times it was rather noisy. Stains on bedroom carpet (from dogs?); otherwise room was clean.

Review 52:Perfect location just a block from the fantastic view of the Menai Strait and Snowdon

Review 53:Confusion on checking in-blamed this on Booking.com's system (which reception said doesn't always send information through). Twin beds pushed together - one was a foot higher than the other. Dogs in a neighbouring bedroom barked loudly during the night. Booked and paid for a sea view- got a view of the back of the hotel (car park) but had to pay full price.

Review 54:Location was fantastic. Most staff were lovely. Other guests were pleasant. Couldn't eat in restaurant during the evening as it was already full both nights - the breakfast was good though. Wifi was useful as internet signal is hit and miss in the area.

Review 55:Hotel room was awful we paid £89 for a cramped twin room in the attic was nothing like the picture in your advert very dissapointed. Felt like Oliver Twist having to ask for a refil of coffee would have prefered a pot on the table. Toast was cold not nice must have been made in advance and left standing .

Review 56:We liked the area.

Review 57:Poor quality bathroom, peeling paint and brown stained shower curtain. Window didnt fit properly. Stairs in hotel didnt feel safe as all treads were different sizes and some sloping which on a stair shouldn't be as it causes safety issues especially with less able people. All in all felt the room was over priced for the standard on offer especiaslly as we paid extra for a "superior" room. Pity as it could have been much better with a little TLC.

Review 58:Great restaurant

Review 59:No complaints at all.

Review 60:Staff were welcoming, the evening meal was very good. Everything worked in the room. The Hotel had a quiet central location. Breakfast was prompt and had a good menu. Would visit again and recommend it to friends.

Review 61:Although lacking spectacular views, this hotel is very well situated in the centre of Beaumaris, close to the amenities that the town has to offer. All of the staff I encountered were friendly and efficient, making me feel really welcome. At breakfast, ask for brown toast made with German bread from the local bakery - it's delicious!

Review 62:The room was just a little chilly (last day in Feb), but not enough to complain about.

Review 63:The young lady who served breakfast was most pleasant and helpful, even reading out the menu for me as I'd left my glasses upstairs.

Review 64:We were given a tiny attic room with windows to high for me at 5ft to see out of the bed creaked the floors creaked the hot tub water outlets were so rusted n dirty it was floating in the tub which took 45 mins to fill!;!!!

Review 65:room 11 was cramped, hadn't been hoovered properly, so much dust on top of the bathroom mirror light, the furniture was dated, not in a nice way, the whole place needed a good clean!

Review 66:The bed was comfy

Review 67:The hotel was warm comfortable and welcoming. I couldn't get wifi connection but the owner let me use her own PC and couldn't do enough for me. The hotel good was fabulous

Review 68:the room, the lighting, the very low standard of the room and bathroom fitting The heating system also was not working and no reduction was given in the rate.I would not return. The whole place needs some TLC.

Review 69:only the breakfast

Review 70:Nothing I didn't like, but room/bathroom requires a bit of an update.

Review 71:Location perfect for strolling around Beaumaris. Private car park. And wonderful home cooked meals. Staff friendly and very attentive.

Review 72:Nothing, like Arnie "I'll be back"

Review 73:Great food, lovely staff, nicely appointed rooms, Unfortunately I had too leave before breakfast which had it been half as good as dinner it would have been superb, but the chef made me up a breakfast tray which keep me going all morning

Review 74:shabby unwelcoming entrance hall. shabby carpets on small stairway to my room. very grubby tile grouting and shower screen in my ensuite bathroom. unsmiling reception staff

Review 75:lovely wallpaper in my room. furniture in lounge. leaded window in dining room comfy double bed in my room

Review 76:car parking limited couldn't use hotels had to park on street TV out of date screen not much bigger than my i pad, changing channels a challenge shower /ensuite dated & a little tired

Review 77:friendly staff good well cooked breakfast bed comfortable and clean

Review 78:Staying in a single room which was very poky. The bed was far to high,a less agile person would have difficulty in getting into it.Would not recommend the single room.No table to use lap top.

Review 79:The food was very good, although a bit pricey.Friendly staff, but very rushed when the dining room was full on the Saturday evening

Review 80:I was informed that my booking resulted in a long term member of staff being dismissed! Left me bewildered and far too embarrassed to dine in the restaurant. If there had been alternative accommodation available I would have left.

Review 81:Location was excellent. The room was very comfortable and the Hotel was very clean.

Review 82:I only had one night.

Review 83:The personal service, the great location, off street parking and a breakfast experience that betters many four star city hotels I have stayed at.

Review 84:We stayed in different guest houses in Beaumaris on the previous 2 nights and found both to have better facilities , decor and views at a cheaper price. There was a problem with the all the televisions when we stayed and phone signal poor as was the Wi fi when in the bedroom.

Review 85:Central location in Beaumaris, good breakfast with plenty of choice.

Review 86:It was "tired", it needs modernising in terms of decor (a bit grubby) and beds (more like trampolines)

Review 87:Staff very helpful and the food was absolutely excellent Good value for money and central

Review 88:Bed not really comfortable Hot/cold water not easy to mix Service at breakfast: no self-service for coiffée/tea, you bave to ask for each cup of coffee, toasts are served when you have finished

Review 89:Site of the room Situation of the hotel Friendly staff Car park near the hotel Générons tea and coiffée service in the room Breakfast: Fresh croissants

Review 90:There was nothing I didn't like

Review 91:Lovely location, quiet and restful despite being on a main road, easy to find and a lovely room within a period property. Freeview on the TV much appreciated by a solo traveller! Spotless bathroom and bedroom! Good mobile networkand generous tea and coffee facilties in my room.

Review 92:car park is very tight but there is plenty of parking within walking distance

Review 93:food is excelent, staff very friendly and a great atmosphere, really enjoyed staying there and will again

Review 94:Noisy, Wi-Fi didn't work, I asked to swap the room after the first night and they gave me a bedroom just above the restaurant. I could listen all the customers and could have e rest until 11:30pm.

Review 95:Fairly noisy room - traffic & gulls but OK during sleeping hours

Review 96:Delicious food Welcoming owner & helpful staff Convenient position Small but useful car park

Review 97:No hot water for shower on second day. Breakfast , had to remind them that we hadn't got pot of tea. No juice on 2 days. Glass of wine not chilled.Dinner on Sunday poor, veg small portion.

Review 98:The location was central, however being such a small town it would be difficult not to be central.

Review 99:Meal was lovely but spoiled slightly by our having to ask for bread, etc. Everything seems to be rationed.

Review 100:Room was very comfortable, massive bathroom with great shower and bath.

Review 101:Felt that breakfast was a bit basic if you didn't want the 'full Welsh' Would have liked the buffet style offered by many hotels.

Review 102:The location. Good view from the bedroom and nice decor. General atmosphere of the hotel Quality of the food for evening meals

Review 103:Bedroom up two flights of stairs was uninspiring and there was a slight smell of damp. TV screen was about the size of my iPad! Breakfast at 8am was slightly later than I would have liked and I didn't realise that you have to order everything - no buffet of fruit juice, cereals, etc. - so missed out on fruit juice, but did eventually get a second cup of coffee. Cooked breakfast was good. Assume that you will have to park on the street - the car park was permanently full while I was there.

Review 104:Central location and staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 105:Nothing at all.

Review 106:Excellent location in the centre of Beaumaris. The owner was very helpful and pleasant - she couldn't find our booking.com reservation but sorted us out anyway. An old fashioned hotel of the best sort, with a very hands-on proprietor. We had an excellent dinner and breakfast was also very good. Even our dog was welcome!

Review 107:Our room and bathroom at the top of the house was somewhat cramped. Piped radio in public rooms.

Review 108:Charming historical property in centre of town and close to the waterfront. Private parking close by.

Review 109:Decent room and good breakfast - good value.

Review 110:The comfortable atmosphere, the in-keeping decor...the FOOD! The cosy well stocked bar....the little extras...chocolate in the room etc.

Review 111:Food was excellent, room slightly dated but very comfortable. Staff very friendly, would definitely visit again.

Review 112:Staff very friendly and room lovely. just right for our needs.

Review 113:Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, comfortable bed in a lovely room and a good breakfast. I am sorry that I did not plan a longer visit..

Review 114:Small room and no evalators. An extra bed was too much soft and very uncomfortable.

Review 115:Great staff snd great views.

Review 116:Nothing, it was a great place to stay.

Review 117:Great character building, amazing food, really friendly welcoming staff.

Review 118:The rooms were average and the beds uncomfortable. Hand basin was outside of the toilet in the bedroom.

Review 119:Location, staff, room and service everything really

Review 120:Very lovely hotel, friendly staff and spacious and comfort room

Review 121:Friendliness and helpfulness

Review 122:Friendly welcome Very comfortable single room

Review 123:Bathroom! Grubby carpet and shower screen. Loose cistern - not at all what we would have expected.

Review 124:Food was very Comfy bed - shame aboutgood

Review 125:The room was need of an updated. Water from the tap was brown.

Review 126:The location

Review 127:Lovely town, fantastic location, brilliant weather, exceptional food.

Review 128:Nothing I didn't like.

The Fine Print

Well-behaved dogs are welcome, though they must not enter any of the public areas.
