Reviews for Hôtel des Récollets

Review 1:Nothing

Review 2:Great location. Christoph is very nice and helpful and speaks English. Extremely good value. You won't be disappointed with this hotel. Nice breakfast and beautiful courtyard.

Review 3:The only thing that was hard that we could not have a cup of tea or coffee after breakfast, nothing in the room for a drink.hard to find a coffee shop open over xmas and new year.

Review 4:Position was great and Christophe very kind and helpful. Breakfast was good!

Review 5:Our room faced the front of the hotel with windows opening onto the passage way. They did not provide any noise insulation at all. We may as well have been in the bar opposite. Otherwise no issues

Review 6:Hotel very tired if refurbished and brought up to date it would be a great place to stay. Needs to be more clear about directions to hotel and car park. Lots of stairs to climb to access the rooms. Breakfast mostly bread. Stayed five days towels changed but no sheets changed.

Review 7:location

Review 8:Only room available was the budget room so booked it as the pictures posted looked fine, whoever took the photographs must have done so many years ago. The room however was a disgrace, very old tired decore, bed and pillows really uncomfortable. Carpets dirty and cobwebs in the corners of the walls. The bathroom needed a thorough clean smelt of damp and mildew in grout. asked to pay for an upgrade but no other rooms available. Only booked for one night thank god because I wouldn't have been able to spend another night there.

Review 9:Nothing in this hotel.

Review 10:The parking could have been closer! Given that your location is located in the centre of Sarlat, 'We can't have every thing.' Just make sure you travel light.

Review 11:The location was spot on.

Review 12:We paid an extra 10 Euro's for a "comfort" room (1 up from the basic). The room we got however was as basic as you can get and looked nothing like the photos of the 'comfort room' on the booking.com website. We complained and asked to be moved to a better room but were told they were fully booked that night.

Review 13:Location

Review 14:The hotel was described as with car park, giving the impression it was next to the hotel, not so, it's 5 min walk away, (uphill) and it's extra on the room price.

Review 15:Position of the hotel, just two min walk to the centre main square, lots of bars and restaurants to choose from, breakfast in the courtyard was really nice. We had a small problem with the room, we told the receptionist (Sonia) who had it fixed immediately. She was very helpful all through our stay, she deserves a payrise.

Review 16:Nothing bad for us, being independent travellers we expect to use our initiative, location may be difficult for the less mobile

Review 17:Amazing location, a short stroll from main attractions of Sarlat, a good value for money hotel with character. A little hard to find initially and no access with car, but this was not a problem for us, private parking is available a short distance away. We had good size triple room on front of hotel, large windows opened onto street ... loved every minute. Friendly, helpful staff and although reception was closed when we arrived due to delay, a quick buzz on intercom and we where allowed in to find our own room. We will return !

Review 18:This hotel was a step back into history. A very small room but ok for a night. Parking was not possible by the hotel as the roads were very narrow and steep. The breakfast was fine. The medieval town was super, lots of places to eat and all sorts of street entertainment in the evening. The street market was amazing too.

Review 19:Mattress a bit worn. Watch out for limited reception hours. Parking spaces at fringe of old town require some search or luck.

Review 20:In the centre of historic town, one of the most picturesque in France. Small, personal place, small rooms yet practical. Friendly staff. Nice inner courtyard, used for serving breakfast (optional).

Review 21:The hotel was a bit tired and needed a lick of paint (though you get what you pay for and we were happy overall).

Review 22:This hotel was in a fantastic location, right in the mix of it all. The car park was very nearby. We found the bed very comfortable. There was also effective wifi.

Review 23:IMHO the breakfast is not worth of 10€. Not bad, but for 10€ I know some places in France where you can (almost) eat a complete meal. Not even a bad meal.

Review 24:The location of the hotel is great, in the old town of Sarlat, but not right away on the main street so pretty quiet and relaxing. Our hostess was great.

Review 25:The breakfast was good but overpriced compared to other options near by.

Review 26:The facility was clean, nice and well located. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Review 27:We found this hotel quite easily from the main road, the sign helped! We then able to walk down to the town which is just chock a block with history, the town has been left in a time warp....superb!

Review 28:unable to park close to hotel, obviously because of the nature of city. Breakfast were a bit on the sparse side considering the price. floorboards in bedroom creaked terribly

Review 29:ideal location for city centre. lovely old charm of hotel, with outdoor terrace in the middle

Review 30:Very difficult to find despite the hotel directions to the school parking. The map they had emailed did not download on my i-pad.

Review 31:Excellent location, friendly staff, hotel full of character. Room at the top of the building was very basic but adequate for an overnight stay.

Review 32:Room a little tired.

Review 33:Staff very friendly and welcoming. Wonderful position in the middle of the medival town. Very pretty building with lots of history

Review 34:It was off-season, so we, as guests, felt like we were intruding on their weekend. Reception didn't open until 5pm, and it was very clear to us that it would be appreciated if we didn't take breakfast in the hotel....

Review 35:Would love tea and coffee making facilities.

Review 36:This hotel is ideally located in the historic centre of Sarlat, just a few minutes walk from shops, cafes and restaurants. In the summer breakfast is served in the courtyard.

Review 37:Central location, traditional building, good room size, comfortable bathroom, breakfast was o.k., arrival at the reception was very welcoming and friendly. All in all a nice stay at a very reasonable price.

Review 38:The staff appeared indifferent. Our room was very dusty and the shower cubicle was dirty and needed some attention!

Review 39:The location was excellent with bars and restaurants nearby and the wonderful old town of Sarlat.

Review 40:I'd a little difficulty finding it, but once there this lovely old building was very handy for everything in the older areas of Sarlat. Wi - Fi was great, nice courtyard, and friendly staff.

Review 41:The hotel is closed by 11am so if you arrive after this there is nowhere to put your bags until they reopen in the late afternoon. This would be a real problem.

Review 42:loved the location --- on the quiet side of town. Nice light airy room. Fairly basic but good value for money.

Review 43:Front desk was rarely open. External lighting & signage poor in evening

Review 44:Nothing in particular but overall it was ok. I was able to get a staff member to help me with luggage when I left

Review 45:Give the €8 breakfast a miss as basically bread and croissants. Room very small hardly room for two suitcases, but I guess you get what you pay for in a two star hotel.

Review 46:Centrally located close to medieval part of town, easy walk to shops markets and restaurants. Ask where the free parking is from reception who were very helpful.

Review 47:Not great staff at explaining things. Confusion over parking situation. I think they use a school across the road just outside old town but we think it was full so we were directed to public car park about 5mins walk away up hill. No problem at all and actually very cheap as only 2 euro for 4 hours and free overnight after 7pm. So fine if you are out and about all day. Just could have been explained better.

Review 48:Location is amazing. Right in the old town. Good value for money.

Review 49:Sarlat is crowded in summer, but hardly the hotel's fault!

Review 50:This place is right in the centre of a busy popular tourist location, so convenient. It was great value considering the location in the heart of a historic beautiful city.

Review 51:Very tiny room Very tiny bathroom and shower Wifi did not work in room - had to go to the staircase. Staff was surly and would not replace a cracked plastic glass

Review 52:Great location Good rate Okay breakfast

Review 53:Very basic and not a room you would want to spend time in other than for sleeping. The rendering on the bedroom walls was powdery and stuck to anything that came in contact with it. The bathroom was basic and a bit grubby. The hotel was difficult to find and to get to, especially if you have to carry a suitcase from your car, down narrow steep passages. There is no parking with the walls of the town. Parking outside the walls of the town is limited and expensive. A free car park is 10 minute's walk away, up a steep hill.

Review 54:The room had a comfortable bed and air conditioning, which was welcome. It was well situated for visiting the town centre. OK for one night.

Review 55:My room was very small, It was a "mansarde" with an incrdibly tiny bathroom. The hotel is a bit old and needs restyling: furniture, doors etc... are very used.

Review 56:The location is fantastic, exactly in the middle of the medieval town but far from the noisy areas.

Review 57:slow draining in shower

Review 58:excellent central location, clean, comfortable, steps away from the central medieval plaza and plethora of cafes and shops - a real bonus to be there during FIFA 2014 games, not too far from bicycle rental, green bikeway and the Dordogne, lakes and swimming, friendly and knowledgeable staff - especially the day before the train strike - to be able to make alternate plans for leaving

Review 59:looking at the hotel plan I think we were given the smallest room of all. It should really have been a single as there was just about room to move around the double bed (one at a time) The 'en suite' was a joke - you could just about get into the toilet and close the door. The bathroom was actually ok size wise but the shower door was hanging off and water spilt all over the floor - no bath mat provided!

Review 60:wonderful position in old town. close to restaurants and bars. managed to find street parking (free for the sunday). Breakfast courtyard was wonderful. The building was beautiful generally. We found the hotel by the 'brown' tourist directions - booking.com told us to turn right into a stepped pedestrian street!!

Review 61:Good value

Review 62:None will definitely come back

Review 63:Everything

Review 64:The rooms were basic but functional

Review 65:The staff were friendly and helpful. The location was perfect.

Review 66:Brilliant location. Very helpful staff. Lovely small friendly hotel with great atmosphere.

Review 67:Ensuite facilities a little dated, as we could only get hot water from basin tap if the shower was turned on at same time!

Review 68:Helpful staff,good location

Review 69:Car parking difficult. Severe slopes to walk up with luggage.

Review 70:Location Location Location

Review 71:Quiet area of the town Lovely soft furnishings in the room Nice view Great courtyard area

Review 72:Friendly helpful staff and great location.

Review 73:No lift, narrow stairways

Review 74:Location in center of medieval town Excellent breakfast

Review 75:Location and staff very pleasant

Review 76:Front desk not always staffed. Not their fault. Just the way it is organised

Review 77:The pub next door

Review 78:Great central location.

Review 79:Great location and good value for money. It's not luxury but it's clean and has aircon.

Review 80:This is a perfect location!

Review 81:Parking a little walk away and quite expensive,

Review 82:Good central location, in peaceful square

Review 83:Breakfast was pricey for what you got.

Review 84:The location was excellent. It was really clean and fantastic air con !

Review 85:Location very close to old town, restaurants etc. Very helpful andfriendly staff

Review 86:The room's a bit cramped.

Review 87:Location, quiet, staff, cat

Review 88:The staff and the location were excellent.

Review 89:quite a climb from the centre and also to the parking. (husband is 83 with bad knees)

Review 90:Quiet and handy for ols part of town

Review 91:Ideal location in the centre of Sarlat. Attentive and friendly staff. Would and will stay here again

Review 92:Bathroom, very difficult access to hotel on the motorcycle

Review 93:The room, staff, breakfast.

Review 94:No hair dryer

Review 95:Location, comfy bed, clean room & bathroom

Review 96:Excellent location

Review 97:Difficult access for bringing luggage. Cannot get the car anywhere near. Steep steps or cobbles to the hotel

Review 98:Lovely room off the central courtyard.

Review 99:Room decor needs an update and new furniture.

Review 100:Location is amazing, staff really kind and considered, building and terrace very nice too.

Review 101:the place is worn out

Review 102:the neighborhood

Review 103:Hard to find. Parking remote, so luggage transfer not so easy.

Review 104:Staff. Breakfast quality and neat location.

Review 105:A slightly more friendly welcome might have helped.

Review 106:A good location and value for money.

Review 107:Location and friendliness of staff

Review 108:Noisy bar outside bedroom window bedroom not vacuumed in five night stay

Review 109:Location character of building

Review 110:Terrible room...cramped, uncomfortable, broken furnishings.

Review 111:Great location in Sarlat, nice garden and decent breakfast.

Review 112:Bathroom was very small but servicable.

Review 113:Clean comfortable room. Good breakfast. Excellent location with parking nearby and a short walk to the action.

Review 114:Room was small but cheap so what can you expect.

Review 115:Location. History. Air con.

Review 116:good location, cozy room.. If I have a chance to visit Sarlat again, I would like to stay there again.

Review 117:Getting to the hotel by car, impossible. Probably the smallest dole room I have ever stayed in.

Review 118:We had the last room available in the hotel which was very small but totally adequate for a short stay.

Review 119:The location was fabulous, right in the village. It was easy to park and walk to the hotel and very close to beautiful medieval villages.

Review 120:The owner of the hotel was very friendly and helpful. Our room was furnished simply, however, we had windows on the interior courtyard and on the exterior courtyard. The tree branches come up close the windows--very charming. Breakfast was served in a vaulted space with stone walls, and the food was fresh. Location of the hotel is perfect: steps away from the main streets of Sarlat-la-Canéda, yet very quiet.

Review 121:The hotel was slightly difficult to find, but we saw the small, directional signs and then had no problem. Minor inconvenience considering the great hotel.

Review 122:The hotel was right in the historic center and we were a few steps from beautiful, ancient buildings, shopping and terrific restaurants. The courtyard was wonderful! We loved this hotel and the city in which it was located.

Review 123:I didn't like that we got ripped off by booking.com by paying 50% more than we should have. We booked a second night which only cost $59 Euro rather than $89 Euro charged through booking.com Just call or email the hotel and book directly so you don't get ripped off too

Review 124:Excellent location and service. The only thing we didn't like was getting ripped off by Booking.com (see below)

Review 125:Room very tired and needed decorated. Paint coming off radiator. Bed side table stained. Courtyard had great potential if it was clean and maintained.

Review 126:Location was good. Room and shower appeared clean. Nice soft towels and pressed sheets.

The Fine Print

Please note that the car park is located 650 feet from the hotel and open only during reception opening hours.
