Reviews for Hôtel Restaurant Napoléon

Review 1:I had booked a room with a view of the city, there was a view but at a very tight angle.

Review 2:Wonderful historic hotel in the centre of a charming town. Great breakfast looking out on a a lovely 'french' courtyard

Review 3:The bar did n't have anyone in it t serve you....the hotel should state (notice on the bar) that if there is no one at the bar to ask reception....we would certainly have purchased some drinks on two occasions if anyone has been around to serve us. The real fire in the bar should be re-instated.

Review 4:Good atmosphere, lovely building, great garden/courtyard, warm room, very quiet.

Review 5:Two broken tiles in bathroom and damaged windowsill took away from otherwise lovely look of my room, but in no way changed my enjoyment of the hotel, in general, and my room, in particular.

Review 6:Location in city center perfect for me. The staff were all very nice, very helpful, and they all spoke English. My room faced the garden courtyard; nice view out the window and very quiet. Room was well-appointed and quite cozy; comfy bed, lots of light from lamps.

Review 7:Besides location and smiling frontdesk forget the rooms. They are small, wallpaper is coming off, windows are lousy, carpetvis old - that was already the case 10 years ago!!!

Review 8:Location, location, location! Nice and smiling front desk staff. Bathroom is okay. Public underground parking nearby.

Review 9:Be aware: the château is CLOSED ON TUESDAYS. The rooms are in need of a lot of TLC - I consider the photos a little misleading in that respect but everything is very clean

Review 10:Ideally located for visiting the château. Hotel has a deal with the nearby public car park to reduce parking costs, which would otherwise be prohibitive. The staff speaks good English and are very helpful.

Review 11:very dangerous bathtub when used as shower. No safety handles for in and out. Breakfast much to expensive!

Review 12:Location is excellent and it is worth 3 stars. Room smallish and AC from last century.

Review 13:Room carpet so dirty we could'nt walk barefoot Room smaller than the one we can see on your site Bathroom dirty, faucets were not working properly Broken mirror in the room And more........

Review 14:Nothing

Review 15:Situation of the room with tiny lifts ! The hotel needs some money spent on it ! The breakfast was awful with cold coffee and virtually nothing but bread and a few bits to eat!

Review 16:The location opposite Chateau. The lovely courtyard and the excellent restaurant .The reception and restaurant staff were very friendly

Review 17:Our rooms were a little cramped. Portable AC not the best. Bed was too soft and unsupportive.

Review 18:Location was great and service of staff and quality of breakfast were good.

Review 19:No Air conditioning. a very hot couple of days and the room was very warm in he night.

Review 20:The receptionist was excellent. Unfortunate tyre puncture whilst travelling to the hotel on a Monday when lot of places were closed. She went out of her way to find a reputable tyre fitting garage that was open.

Review 21:I loved this place! The garden view was excellent with outdoor seating. Everyone (restaurant and front desk) was friendly and extremely helpful. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Review 22:Our room smelt damp and musky and can do with a little update. It was next to the main street and you can hear the bus which goes on through the night.

Review 23:Great location in the middle of the town, perfect for exploring the château. Good restaurant within the hotel which makes it convenient to feed hungry young kids whilst parents enjoy a good wine with a scrumptious meal.

Review 24:Rather shabby hotel with some rooms small with very tiny bathroom! The price of breakfast is far too expensive for the the few things on offer and the additional price for dogs to stay at 20 eurs per day is far too expensive!

Review 25:Location was great near chateau and park plus restaurants and shops! Very good quality restaurant with a lovely view of the garden!

Review 26:The portable air conditioner was really good and useful for the hot weather but a bit noisy. The ventilation in the bathroom didn't seem to be working.

Review 27:Nice and friendly staff. They were flexible for the late check-out and gave me all the information I needed. The room was very clean.

Review 28:We took Standard room, very small, no space for open suitcases. Little corner shower with shower curtain and blocked drain... Breakfast very expensive @ €16, found coffee shop just outside with breakfast special @ €3.60!

Review 29:Great location, on bus route, from station, few meters from Châtau!

Review 30:Rooms very small but bathroom well stocked with towels and soaps. Difficult to park car outside for unloading luggage but large underground parking nearby.

Review 31:All staff we met were very friendly and helpful. Better than we would normally expect for a three star hotel.

Review 32:A portable air conditioner immediately adjacent to the bed and it didn't even work. The room was very small and made worse by oversized furniture. Generally run down expectations not met.

Review 33:Great location close to centre

Review 34:Left our passports in the safe at Reception and neither the staff norourselves remembered until we did but when we got to within 20 mins ofCalais! A long drive back...staff very apologetic and provided a freebreakfast next morning.Perhaps the hotel needs a process in place on check-out to ensure others don't incur the same fate?

Review 35:Location and friendly staff

Review 36:Not so clean, linen greyish, torn. Beds too short and not comfortable, room very, very small. Bathroom dirty, fungus, broken tiles. Woodwork broken, chipped, dirty. Staff unpleasant and when checking out few days early because of lack of sleep (beds + staff making noise a 6 on courtyard) we had to pay a penalty! Hallways dark and dirty, elevator scary and stairways broken and dark. Staff not friendly. Not even 2 star... We moved to other, much better hotel.

Review 37:location

Review 38:The corridors leading to the rooms need to be renewed, painted.

Review 39:The three big arches at the entrance and the spaciousness of the marble lobby. Located near the Chateau and at the center of town with lively restaurants.

Review 40:Had to use the lift to get to our bedroom as steps difficult to negotiate. Room and ensuite cramped.

Review 41:Bedroom looked onto a courtyard, parking great and breakfast very good. Location for chateau excellent.

Review 42:The hotel is quite old and some work has to be done. (Carpet in the room is defect...) Bathroom is OK but not in a very good condition.... the usual things i would say. Breakfast is 16€ this is to much, i did not try. No free of charge parking places.

Review 43:On getting into the shower I found it did not work so had to take a bath. When we mentioned this at the front desk there was no suggestion of a discount,

Review 44:We chose Fontainebleau as an easy place to return a car before taking the train to Paris to catch a flight and this certainly was the case. Bus from front door left for station and then it was 40 by train to Paris. Hotel centrally located near shops, cafes, restaurants and the Chateau. Smallish room but adequate for 1 night.

Review 45:Doors slamming late at night from other guests.

Review 46:Small but nicely presented and well equipped comfortable room overlooking inner courtyard. Hotel well located and easy to find. Discounted rate offered by hotel for the secure underground parking nearby (Napoleon Parking). Staff on reception very helpful and friendly. Free wifi or pc for guests to use in reception.

Review 47:The location was excellent although we were not aware of availability of a car park but found a space on the road relatively easily. Room was spacious and well decorated. The shower screen had a crack in it and that was the only fault. Shower powerful and room clean. We had 4 of us in a triple room as put our 3 year old in a cot. Great location as could walk to a huge choice of restaurants.

Review 48:Room could do with a bit of renovation. Bar drinks expensive.

Review 49:Very friendly family hotel. Good breakfast. Generally good value (but see -ve part too) with fascinating decor and fascinating facts about Napoleon.

Review 50:Hotel really needs a refurbishment. Elevator and WiFi did not work when we arrived, WiFi was fixed later in the evening. Many of the TV-channel did not work. Elevator was fixed, but broke down again. Carpets, walls, corridors really need a severe brush-up.

Review 51:Well placed in city center. Staff friendly and helpful.

Review 52:Wi-fi connection was not always stable enough. And what was really annoying - it did not reconnect automatically. I had to choose the network, reenter password, accept conditions, etc. on all my devices every time I came back to hotel or even after I was not using the device for a couple of hours.

Review 53:Perfect location. Spacy room, big bathroom. Huge comfortable bed. Friendly personnel. I was lucky to get a very good rate (almost twice lower than normal rate) thanks to early booking promotion at booking.com. For that price the quality was absolutely exceeding expectations.

Review 54:There is need of some refurbishment to bring this hotel back to its former glory. The mirror in our bedroom had shattered. In the bathroom the floor tiles were cracked and there were big chunks missing from the wall tiles, and sink laminate. The shower screen was hanging by a thread and the loo seat was chipped. But everything worked! Breakfast at the weekend was not good. We went down about half way through and there was no hot food left and the coffee was cold, not even warm. I had to look for someone to get me a cup of coffee. On Sunday there were no plates left and people were eating their croissants etc out of bowls. Too bad if you wanted bread, that was finished too. Monday morning was better, with a young woman member of staff who knew what she was doing and was very efficient. But we were paying €16 for this!!! There was no map of where to go in case of fire in our room. When the lift was full of laundry we tried the stairs the other end but they appeared to finish in a dead end so we came back up again….and were shown some other stairs at the other end of the building, unmarked.

Review 55:Beautiful old hotel with great ambience, a sense of history and a lovely courtyard. The reception staff were helpful and friendly. Our room overlooked the courtyard and we were able to sleep with the window open and all we could hear were the birds. There was plenty of light for reading too, which is not usual. We were allowed to stay a little longer on the day we left which we very much appreciated.

Review 56:Nothing.

Review 57:We stayed at this hotel because we wanted to visit the chateau at Fontainebleu. The location was perfect. We enjoyed our stay and it was very comfortable indeed.

Review 58:The room price for what it was is, was high. The shower in the room was virtually impossible to use as it was against a sloping wall. The room needs a few small things fixing - a tile on the side of the bath was twirling around and there was a large hole in the wall of the wardrobe.

Review 59:The staff in the hotel were lovely and spoke excellent English. The bed was comfortable. The hotel location is excellent as it's right in the centre of town.

Review 60:Lack of staff at breakfast. Scrambled egg and sausages were cold!

Review 61:So handy for shops ,restaurants, and of course the chateau. Nice to have a lounge, bar, restaurant and meeting area too. Staff very friendly in reception area.

Review 62:Bathrooms dated. Mould on tiles. Primitive air conditioning. Lift very old and very slow. Everything seemed as though it had enjoyed better days.

Review 63:Great position. friendly staff+helpful. nice garden to sit in. Entrance impressive

Review 64:The rooms are not only outdated in decor but poorly maintained. The carpet was stained, as was the bedsheets. The bathroom was quite outdated although generally clean. I do not think this room is worth more than 70 euros per night given the poor quality and upkeep. These woes are in sharp contrast to the hotel common areas, which are clean and bright with traditional 19th century style decor. However, I'd rather have an excellent room than an excellent hotel lobby or restaurant. Updating the rooms and improving their maintenance would do wonders for this historic place.

Review 65:This hotel has perhaps the most central location in Fontainebleau, directly across from the post office and among the town's restaurants and bars. Most of the rooms face an ivy-covered courtyard which protect them from the potential noise on the street.

Review 66:Neglected hotel, broken and neglected toilet furniture, overused towels, holes on the window to allow the cable of the airing system (of bad quality)to pass in the room.In general, not good price for value, no renovations ever made in that hotel (rooms, garden, lift). No possibility for short time parking in front of the hotel just to leave our luggage! The hotel restaurant is used mainly by the external visitors of the town and the reception staff does not allow hotel guests to eat at the hotel restaurant .We managed to get in the restaurant after a long negotiation, secretively from the reception! This is unacceptable, since we booked this hotel mainly for the restaurant!

Review 67:The location of the hotel near the chateau Fontainebleau.

Review 68:room was tiny and expensive for what it offered; ventilation in the garden was on all night

Review 69:excellent location to visit the castle and reach restaurants/bars; very friendly and helpful staff; nice garden; good deal for secure parking

Review 70:Needs some updating, showers was moldy, breakfast is expensive.

Review 71:Hotel was close to Chateau Fontainebleau, lots of restaurants nearby, front desk staff was very pleasant, parking was nearby.

Review 72:No air-conditioning. instead there was a portable, noisy evaporative cooler with exhaust fitted through the window. It meant that one half of the window could not close. Rain came in during the night after a thunderstorm. This was a standard double room in the attic. I was told it was only 13sq metres. you could not easily get into bed past the open window. The bathroom was old, broken tile under the bath, 60s plastic tap knobs. The bath towels were small. There were no extra pillows in the room. Hotel reception was smart looking but the rooms were a disappointment.

Review 73:Very close to the Chateau of Fontainebleau. Kettle for making a cup of instant coffee and tea. Only one teabag. One mug was cracked.

Review 74:The room was shabby, old wallpaper falling off the walls and the wall paper was dirty! The shower had black mold all over! Quite discusting!!

Review 75:The fact that it was in the Main Street was practical, but many others to choose from!

Review 76:a bit old & shabby

Review 77:good location

Review 78:The hotel rooms need an update!

Review 79:The location was great! Right in the center... Fontainebleau is beautifully decorated over the holidays!
