Reviews for Hôtel De France Et De Guise

Review 1:It was very close to the castle, can see it through my room's window. The host was very nice, speak great English, was very helpful. It was a nice stay in Blois.

Review 2:the room style was a little too mixed and the canopy above the bed was a little dusty, but nothing spoiled the pleasant stay we had:)

Review 3:The hosts were very kind, polite and their long term hotel experience was delightful The room had a great view, a fireplace, a little balcony, just as we asked The breakfast room The whole atmosphere of the hotel was charming and lovely Room and bathroom clealiness Quiet and calm 2 minutes walk to the center and the castle

Review 4:Location; amazing front desk staff (the owners I think); but manage your expectations: this is low-budget and so you get a basic but perfectly clean room with basic but practical furniture

Review 5:The location was perfect for driving to the chateaux of the Loire Valley and finding fun places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful. Perfect place to stay!

Review 6:Washroom a bit small

Review 7:I hav to say the staff in this hotel is the best I have met in France. All the ladies speak English very well and very nice and helpful. There is a garage which can put the bicycle which you shall rent one for riding in Blois. The location is very good, close to both railway station and mid town, just next to the Castle. Would recommend this hotel for visitors.

Review 8:Hotel is a bit "tired" but everything worked fine, so no complaints. Wifi speed wasn't much good for skyping.

Review 9:Excellent helpful and friendly receptionist. Lovely airy room. Easy enough access to parking a couple of minutes walk away.

Review 10:The property is a bit run down, but that's reflected in the low cost.

Review 11:The hotel is in the very center of town, with short walks to anything. Parking is easy. The entire staff was very freindly and helpful with restaurant recommendations. Plus it's hard to beat the price.

Review 12:Unique, fantastic position across the road from Blois Palace and handy to town centre and rail station. Very helpful and friendly staff, clean quiet room.

Review 13:Better not pay for the breakfast. The price is way too high for the poor choice of things to have.

Review 14:We stayed at Hotel de France for 5 nights and the stay was extremely nice. We had a room for 3 adults and it was spacious, the bathroom was very big, everything clean and the housekeeping staff came every day to make the beds and clean up the room. The price was very good and we had a room with the view of the castle :) very nice!

Review 15:The rooms are a bit too small, barely have space to open my suitcase (but we asked for extra bed in the room, it should be ok if just 2 people in the room).

Review 16:Staffs are really nice and helpful, give us maps, recommend places to go, suggest where to eat. The location is perfect to the castle of blois as we wanted to see the light and sound at night, just 5 mins walking.

Review 17:The décor is worn out. The floor in bathroom needs replacing, the walls have some old water stains.

Review 18:This hotel is very centrally located and very inexpensive. The room was clean enough and there was a large table upon which we could prepare meals. This was a practical room.

Review 19:Beds were a little uncomfortable and the rooms were hot. Unfortunately the free wifi wasn't working during our stay.

Review 20:Excellent budget value for money quirky hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the location of the hotel is fantastic. This is the third time we have used the hotel for a night on our way down to the South of France. Blois is a wonderful place.

Review 21:The quadrant room was smaller than small! No air conditioning. That made it extremely hard to sleep in the summer with 4 persons.

Review 22:Breakfast was perfect!

Review 23:The decoration needs attention and the shower was poor.

Review 24:The staff were very welcoming, the breakfast was very good and the location was also very good.

Review 25:Wi Fi was available but unreliable

Review 26:The elegance of the building and the warm welcome from the staff. Above all its close proximity to the chateau and the town centre.

Review 27:Parking a bit tricky but resedential streets only 5 min walk away.

Review 28:The owners were lovely and very helpful. The location is perfect for the chateaux and the town. It has much character

Review 29:1. No air conditioning. Even though it's <20 degrees outside, the room is so hot that you have to open the window to sleep at night. 2. Noises. When you open the window, the noises are too loud for you to sleep. And the sound insolation is terrible, I was woke up at least 5 times in the morning, hearing everything people said outside. 3. Room. Every step I took on the floor, it gave unpleasant noise. The door of toilet faces straight to the bed, which is weird. And it also gave unpleasant smell.

Review 30:Location, super convenient. Service, but it cannot give you a good night sleep.

Review 31:The breakfast was extremely basic from all our other experiences and not worth having.

Review 32:Excellent location. With bar below we thought we were in for a noisy night but it closed very early and everywhere was perfectly quiet.

Review 33:The hotel was old, and could be quite charming, but really needs a renovation - the carpets, drapes, bed covers and bathrooms all seem to be from the 80's - but it was clean. The bathroom was clean but had a musty smell, the shower door was broken. The breakfast was 8 euro which is not expensive but nicer to get a croissant and coffee outside. Some noise at night from traffic on the street.

Review 34:The owners are very friendly and helpful. We had a beautiful view of the chateau, park and church from our balcony. There was a public playground for children in the park opposite. The hotel is in a nice central location - easy walk to the town centre. 5 minutes downhill from the train station.

Review 35:Very thin walls. The bathroom needed a bit of care, like aome shower repair. Nothing major, but it's those small simple things that are easy for a hotel to get right.

Review 36:Great location.

Review 37:Not necessarily a bad experience as our stay was pleasant. The weather was very hot and windows had to be kept open as there was no air conditioning. This meant that there was considerable noise coming up from the street.

Review 38:Location is excellent. Hosts are very helpful and proactive in recommending ways to get around and information about the area.

Review 39:Hotel looks a bit tired could do with a makeover Unable to get a cup of coffee at hotel. It was very hot at night but with the windows opened you could hear all the traffic and other noises from the busy street outside. I'm afraid the breakfast was not up to much either. Oh, and by the way, Bloise is very much like a ghost town on a Monday night everythings closed by 21.00

Review 40:Management and staff very helpful, good central location

Review 41:No parking (only street parking, costs money). No air conditioning (windows open, but very noisy at night).

Review 42:Cute building (probably historical), in Blois Centre (3 min on foot from Blois Castle). Our room (15) had a view of the Castle and St-Vincent Church. Close to city's historical centre (Vieille-Ville). Close to shops.

Review 43:No aircorn in the room. Had to sleep with the doors on the balcony open to cool the room down.

Review 44:The town (Blois) is beautiful with castles in the area and a great experience. The hotel fits in with the whole environment. The reception staff was very welcoming and helpful.

Review 45:I asked to change my room from the street side to the back of the hotel which was not a problem. It was very quiet and comfortable and just a few metres away from the castle and the heart of the town. The staff were extremely kind and friendly. An excellent room for the price.

Review 46:Helpful, friendly owners. Very close to the chateau. Balcony with nice view. Parking close by with drop-off outside hotel. Don't miss the dragons at la maison de la magie - five minutes walk away.

Review 47:Very noisy probably due to poor isolation: baby crying, sounds during night and in the morning which woke us up. Mini bathroom.

Review 48:Location, friendly staff

Review 49:The room could have used a remodel job but for the price I cant really complain.

Review 50:I loved this hotel for the price but also the staff and location were amazing.

Review 51:The shower stall is about the size of a Baby coffin. I guess people we're smaller in those days like 4 ft.

Review 52:This hotel makes you feel like you are in a 1950's French movie. You expect Jean Moreau and Yves Montand to check in, go upstairs and have an affair then light up 2 cigarettes, exhale and gape up at the ceiling! This place is a real treasure! Great staff!

Review 53:The hotel was within an easy walk of the chateau, and it was so nice to quickly walk back there after the late-night son et lumiere. The reception staff was very friendly and helpful.

Review 54:Parking a little far from the hotel when the parking lane is not available.

Review 55:Nice address in downtown (Blois). Very calm. Crew very kindy and atentious.

Review 56:We had stayed at 14 hotels in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria and Italy from 6th.Oct. to 3rd.Nov.,2014. Hotel De France Et De Guise is very perfect one in everything. We recommend this hotel to Chinese tourists. The staffs are warmth, kind; bed room is very large, clean; hotel location is near railway station; the breakfast is better; the decoration of bed room and dining hall have very traditional flavor. Saying this is a hotel valued to stay and be unwilling to leave……….. Ji Ai Ming and Li Pang, Shanghai,China

Review 57:The rooms are quiet old fashioned. It can be charming for one-two nightstay, but not longer. Breakfast is very very basic- cereals, yogurt, jam, coffee. Definately not worth 8 euros.

Review 58:Locationwise this hotel is superb. It's literally in the middle ofhistoric sights. We loved the staff-very pleasant and trying hard tomake your stay comfortable.

Review 59:As others have said, the walls were thin - it is an old character building. But really, there was nothing to dislike.

Review 60:The staff were great, efficient, helpful and with good english. For the price the room was cute with great view of palace, ideal location and a garage for bikes. A great stay in a very nice place.

Review 61:The main problem is lack of sound isolation, as was mentioned here before. Really walls are transparent, so consider using ear plugs :)

Review 62:Nicely located just near the castle, parking is also not far, staff is very helpfull and nice

Review 63:Only found one (very good and vegetarian friendly)restaurant near to thehote

Review 64:Close to the chateau Typical old French city centre hotel Friendly staff

Review 65:Small, tight space, but it was not a major issue. If you like old, quaint places to stay, this is the place.

Review 66:Located in center of Blois. Near Chateau de Blois and restaurants. 24h reception, familiar with English and friendly. Room was old, but quaint. Conveniently located next to ATM.

Review 67:Street noise so severe one in our party had to request a room change. The staff was gracious however about the move.

Review 68:Helpful, friendly staff. Excellent location for chateau visits. Town of Blois very walkable, but shops all close early.

Review 69:the hotel really close to the city center and to the train station. the staff were kind and gave us information about the chateaux around and helped us to plan the visit.

Review 70:Close to main attractions and main town centre, very obliging and friendly folk, facilities modest but clean, and value for money. Lots of historical charm.

Review 71:The bathroom was looking a little tired and could do with a bit of a refurb; however, it all worked.

Review 72:Reception staff were very pleasant, the hotel couldn't be better sited, and the room was comfortable and quiet. Proper wi-fi is a luxury in a French hotel, and the lobby's charming. Overall, extremely nice.

Review 73:There's nothing not to like about this hotel. It's charming and old, but if you prefer sleek and modern, it's probably not for you.

Review 74:This hotel is in a great central location for the Chateau, and for the shops, cafés, and restaurants.

Review 75:Wifi not working (too many users?) Hotel and room are a bit dusty, but nothing unacceptable

Review 76:good location in a nice city friendly staff fairly priced considering a city hotel

Review 77:the old wooden roof is not soundproof. We can hear the very slight move in the upper floor. Also the stairs can make noise too. If you want a quite sleep, this hotel is obviously not a good place.

Review 78:Shower wasn't great!

Review 79:location within 3 mins walk of the Chateaux and old town. Staff were very helpful with restaurant recommendations and other local information Loved the slightly faded grandure of the dining room

Review 80:Its obviously a popular place! Was difficult to get a booking at short notice.

Review 81:The staff were fantastic, welcoming from the moment we walked in. We stayed only one night though I wish it was more. The hotel was the perfect central base for visitng all of Blois. Castle across the road. Main shopping strip 20m down the street. The hotel decor was what attracted us and we weren't disappointed. Charming. Breakfast was also very generous (continental). Parking was available 3 mins away in the Parking Chateau for €5.50 a day, but the hotel supplemented this too. We paid €5 for two days. Will definitely come back here if we're lucky enough to visit Blois again.

Review 82:Pretty memorably horrible We paid for a better quality double room the wardrobe was very small and shower space and loo too small separated by cardboard or plastic door. There was an issue at breakfast about asking for a plate to put our bread on and no refrigerating facilities so the milk was left out in the room for 2 and a half hours. The decoration was certainly in need of painting and wallpaper worn through.

Review 83:Location was good

Review 84:This is a charming hotel, quirky and old fashioned and fairly basic, but a great place for a couple of nights in Blois. We stayed during a heat wave and have no air con, but were happy to provide a fan, which did the trick. The staff were charming, and helpful with advice for local restaurants and sights to visit.

Review 85:Shower over bath without a non slip mat. No on site parking but some nearby.

Review 86:Very spacious room with large table and wardrobe and chairs. Superb location across the road from chateau. Many restaurants nearby.

Review 87:This hotel has not been decorated for decades. The public areas were dark and dingy. Our room facilties were quite dreadful and depressing. Toilet seat broken with basin and bath in urgent need of replacement. Carpets and curtains just beyond comparison to anywhere we have stayed IN THE WORLD.

Review 88:Staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 89:The window kept closed. So the room was a bit stuffy. But there was a good fan that made the air ok. I slept well.

Review 90:The staff is helpful and friendly. Just a few minutes fron the castle. Very clean. The breakfast is ok.

Review 91:We went for budget rooms at the top. They were really very hot (garrett rooms) but they'd provided fans in each and that was fair enough for the price. Coffee was rough - I tend to judge a hotel on its coffee.

Review 92:Location. Staff. It did exactly what it said on the tin.

Review 93:The staff are very friendly and the hotel has a nice charm. Obviously it's not the Ritz at this price but it's clean, everything works and I found it excellent value for money and in a great location in a lovely wee town.

Review 94:The internet was stuck one of the evenings, and there wasn't much room near the toilet..

Review 95:The staff was great. We forgot our watch there and they were very efficient in finding it quick. They offered a discount ticket to the castle in Blois. Great place.

Review 96:The room is quite small, and is in a really old state. The bathroom is also small and old. The floor feels really unsteady, probably due to its age. The hallway smelled like mold and fungus. The internet didn't work in our room at all. Did however work in the hallway, but due to the smell it was not very pleasant to spend time there....

Review 97:The receptionists are really helpful. The lobby is classical and kind of cozy. Good location central to the sights.

Review 98:Nothing.

Review 99:Our family of four (including two teenagers) stayed here for one night in late June 2014. The location is very good, walking distance from the rail station, downtown and the river and right across from the chateau. The hotel is an older building but it is in good shape. The room and bathroom were clean, comfortable and spacious. The staff was helpful and friendly. We enjoyed our stay, would stay here again, and recommend it to others.

Review 100:The room was very barren with hardly a window. The lampshade was smashed, the bathroom was very tatty and old. It is very clearly a budget hotel yet the price wasn't all that budget.

Review 101:Very friendly staff, comfy bed and reasonably clean. It was ok for 1 night.

Review 102:Problem getting from car to hotel if it is raining. Should be mentioned that hotel is on a busy corner and you can't stop there.

Review 103:Pretty much near everything.

Review 104:Tiny unusable bathroom

Review 105:Location, property, staff

Review 106:Outdated. The baths are small.

Review 107:Location

Review 108:No A/C

Review 109:location

Review 110:the tiny, tiny bathroom

Review 111:The helpfulness of the staff!

Review 112:Very poor breakfast. 8 euros each but no fruit cold meats nor eggs. Rip off

Review 113:Location to centre and easy parking. Staff very friendly

Review 114:Hotel had character. Great location - view of the chateau from bedroom window.

Review 115:Parking a problem

Review 116:Good location

Review 117:Ticked all our boxes

Review 118:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Review 119:The hotel management was very obliging when we required assistance for specific purchases

Review 120:Nothing

Review 121:Location, next door to Blois Chateau

Review 122:Excellent location, Lovely staff, very helpful, clean comfortable rooms, good bed, nice view from our room . French atmosphere.

Review 123:wifi not available, had to use IBIS wifi to plan onward journey.

Review 124:It had character not the usual bland new hotel!

Review 125:Bad wi-fi in the room but perfekt in the reception.

Review 126:Helpful staff.good location. Ok breakfast big rooms

Review 127:Very friendly helpful staff. The location of the hotel is excellent for anyone visiting Blois Chateau - right across the street,

Review 128:small room, wifi is SO POOR. noisy due to on the street, hard to sleep
