Reviews for Hôtel Du Bellay

Review 1:Owner is not in the hotel. There is a receptionist 6 hours a day that will take "notes for the owner". Our shower head was clogged and faucet broken. Although we complained, it was not fixed for 3 night stay. The heating is very poor, and only after 6 pm. You will only get one type of liquid soap, as shampoo and body soap Very basic, was clean, but the owner try to avoid any expense possible and it comes to a point of damaging the guest experience.

Review 2:Receptionist has a lovely attitude For a great value and tasty restaurant, try the near by Italian La Scala.

Review 3:It's smelling very bad at the reception and in the bathroom ! Traveling with friends we'VE booked 4 rooms and it was the same in each one ! Awfull!!!!!

Review 4:many things worn-out, needs a refurbishment, could be a little more cleaner

Review 5:Site is very good, everything is very close, good restaurand beside, for one night ok, good Price

Review 6:In general we like old fashioned places, but no warm water in thebathroom is too medieval, I'd say!

Review 7:Very basic, but well-located place (Blois has quite good road-signsystem for hotels all over the town). Situated on the side road, theplace is quiet and would be enough for a short stay, if not - seeDislike Section.

Review 8:Before booking check the opening hours of the reception - it is not open for 24h/day. Also the nearest supermarket we have found is behind the train station, across the bridge. A pizzeria is near though. The tapware is old, but does not leak.

Review 9:It is conveniently located near the Roal Chateau of Blois and not far from the train station, in a grey, old house on a gloomy, bleak street - very characteristic for this medieval city.

Review 10:If you are one of those people for whom the hotel is a destination rather than a bed for the night you WILL be disappointed. But that is clear in the price I think. But why are the bedroom walls mud brown (I am being polite - another substance comes to mind)? Is that a tradition thing? It's not just the plaster - someone went out of their way to select that colour... add the slow to come on eco bulbs and it's very depressing indeed! For those who need to know. Bad, tight stairs and no lift. Avoid if that is an issue.

Review 11:Location is very close to centre of Blois. The Italian restaurant right next door is very good. TIP: You can set your Sat Nav for... Rue Franciade and park for FREE there.

Review 12:Too small rooms, not clean, not quiet, room with a window directly to the street (impossible to let it open), not confortable

Review 13:Very near to the center, reductions for the monuments of the city, cheap

Review 14:Our luggage could barely be dragged up and down the tiny, unstable spiral stairs. The comforter looked like it had not seen a washing machine in years. The shared shower was quite cramped. Breakfast was very basic considering the 6€ price tag. Most importantly, although the hotel description says check-in is after 5pm, it is not said that the property is entirely unstaffed and locked before that time, so if you arrive early you cannot even drop your bags.

Review 15:Queer little dormer room with a superb view over the rooftops and the Castle. Good location with on-street parking nearby.

Review 16:No help with parking, the bathroom , poor ventilation Extremely basic - roof over our head only! Don't book this unless you have no other option.

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:Nothing like advert so please watch as this is not the first time fooled. Description and photos should be accurate and representative of place.

Review 19:Only one night

Review 20:The shower was in a tiny closet, I am claustrophobic so couldn't bear to use it!

Review 21:This was a very old building that had an awesome old wooden spiral staircase (that wasn't as awesome for lugging two suitcases up). Our room was small but we did have our own toilet and handbasin which was handy. Even though the staff member couldn't speak much English, she was friendly and we tried our best to communicate. She also gave us discount coupons for the town's main attractions.

Review 22:the reception is closed once the staff is off duty and so is the wifi connection.

Review 23:friendly staff. close to the chateau and the downtown. wifi connection in public area is good

Review 24:We were overcharged. It was just a few francs more than the price quoted on Bookings.com, but it's something for future guests to watch out for. We were in a rush and our French isn't great, so we didn't challenge the bill and paid up!

Review 25:The hotel was in a great location and we liked the room. It was clean, comfortable and full of character.

Review 26:All good!

Review 27:Central location, friendly and helpful staff. Despite it being a 500 year old building it all worked well. Our room was more than adequate. Plumbing worked well -excellent shower. We thought parking might be a problem but found free parking in a street nearby. Staff were great - insisted on taking my wife's backpack up the stairs to our room! Our room was comfortable with a view over the surrounding area. There are good places to eat nearby (great Italian on the corner) and it isn't far to walk into the town centre. We'll be back for a longer stay next time.

Review 28:The awkwardness of getting in. No one on premises from 11 am to 5 pm. You can phone and are given the door code to leave your bags, which works fine if you have a phone, not so great otherwise. We finally borrowed someone's cellphone to make the call.

Review 29:Very comfortable. Felt right at home. Pleasantly surprised at how clean it was, considering the age of the building. Manager was very friendly

Review 30:Shower was tiny

Review 31:Staff friendly and helpful

Review 32:Very small bathroom. Wifi did not reach our room.

Review 33:Laurie, the hostess was marvelous, friendly, and very professional!!! ***** FIVE STARS !!!!!

Review 34:The shower a bit strange

Review 35:The owner really nice and helpful, the position

Review 36:Steep stairs, tiny room and shared shower

Review 37:Location, bed

Review 38:The conditioner isn't present.

Review 39:Good location in beautiful city. Stopped here for 1 night. The hotel is located in very old house.

Review 40:Room pokey and would by stuffy in hot weather

Review 41:Staff very friendly and helpful. Close to good restaurants . Castle .

Review 42:Closed from 11 am till 5pm

Review 43:Close to town

Review 44:Shower is pretty cramped!

Review 45:Staff was great and helpful - hotel has character and price is very reasonable

Review 46:Cheap, confortable, well located

Review 47:the history, it is from the 1500s.

Review 48:Wifi in public area only and this was closed from 9pm

Review 49:Comfortable clean room

Review 50:Wifi is a bit irregular at time

Review 51:Always very clean (3d stay in this hotel) and staff welcoming. Excellent pizzeria next door.

Review 52:Walls and bed sheets...not so comfortable actually... Based on the price we paid, totally worth it though

Review 53:Location.

Review 54:attending hours are inacceptable heater didn't work, it was freezing cold

Review 55:staff was very friendly charming old house

Review 56:Good position in the centre of the town. Host very helpful with tips on where to go in town.

Review 57:Everything

Review 58:Location is great! hotel was clean. Parking was available and free on the weekend. Great value the money.

Review 59:Location and friendly proprietor

Review 60:Street noise

Review 61:Location

Review 62:staff is very kind, close to an awesome restaurant and main sites of the town

Review 63:old house looks rather awful, small room and not so clean, no wifi, I will never stay at a hotel like this again

Review 64:cheap and good location

Review 65:The room was very dusty; the staircase was almost too narrow for me to get my luggage up it; check-in times are far too restricted; I had no fridge; the building was far too old; it wasn't that easy to find from the train station.

Review 66:My bed was comfortable, my room aired out OK, and the view was good.

Review 67:This hotel is simply awful and for your organisation to deal with it I can only presume you have never visited it. Its exterior is gloomy and dilapidated. It is situated on a filthy back street at the top of a steep hill. When we arrived several filthy down and outs were wandering around collecting dog ends from the gutter. The reception area is tiny and dusty. We ascended a beautifully made but now worn and dusty spiral staircase to a bare room containing two old iron bedsteads. the room was luridly decorated with a wallpaper circa 1970 and yellow and green paint with skirting boards falling loose. The tiny bathroom was worse with panels falling off from around a tiny two tier bath replete with plumbing which must almost qualify as antique. There was an old basin and toilet mounted on a piece of wood the likes of which I have only previously seen on skips. There was no wardrobe space. My son and I were cycle touring and tired enough to laugh at it, eat elsewhere, sleep then move on. If I had arrived with my wife she would have walked straight out. It was awful enough to have been a "candid camera" stunt. If you are a prospective guest my advice would be to avoid it at any cost; if you are associated with booking.com and have any commitment to quality control please go there, examine it and reconsider your association with this squalid premises

Review 68:The bed linen was clean

Review 69:We had a hard time finding the place with the directions we got from Booking.com. The bed was a bit small for the 2 of us, but other than that it was great.

Review 70:It was a really cute place - nestled away in the old part of town. We'd booked a room that had a shared bathroom, but when we checked in they gave us one with the shower in the room. The bed and room was small, but it fit us for the one night that we were there.

Review 71:The shower wasn't bad per se. It was just small. But once you for yourself in there, the water is warm and that's all you need methinks.

Review 72:The girl in reception was very friendly and helpful. And she went out of her way to try to speak Spanish with me (I don't understand French, except when it's similar to Spanish). The room was very clean, the bed was fantastic. I even had a toilet in a closet! Aaaaand, it's a 15th century house!

Review 73:Staff can only speak little English --> made communication difficult in some extent (but not too bad)

Review 74:It's about 10 min walking from the station. Small room but clean. The staff is very nice, they updated my room from single room with shared bathroom and toilet to private room when they recognized that I'm a female solo traveler :)

Review 75:no internet in the room, no English speaking staff, but frienly, they close until 5pm, so is no chance to leave your luggage.

Review 76:Everything very old, but nice. I had beautiful view from the rooftop.

Review 77:Wi-fi signal was weak and a little bit unstable at times. The shared shower room was definitely (way) smaller than I expected. I almost had no room to put my clothes and toiletries.

Review 78:I got a room in the highest floor, the ceiling is very low, but it was an interesting experience staying in a 15th century house. You will hear the sound and noise from people coming up and down the stairs, but that's acceptable since this is such an old building. The receptionist was friendly and tried to answer my questions even though I can only speak a few French phrases and his English is not very fluent either.

Review 79:If you get there before 5pm the place is locked up unless the owner comes down

Review 80:Even though the reception does not open until 5pm, the owner saw us out front with our bicycles and took pity on us and let us in at 2:30.

Review 81:There was only liquid soap, no shampoo or shower gel.

Review 82:The hotel is located near the castle and the center of the town. It takes max a 10 minutes walk to get to the castle. The room was clean. The staff was very nice and explained us what is to see and not to miss. We had only one towel, because they received that the booking was only for one person. We asked for another one and there was no problem.

Review 83:The bathroom toilet was a bit dodgegy, some things needed repairs inthe bathroom.

Review 84:The staff were very helpful and genuine. Our room was very clean, interestingly decorated, heated great during the cold weather we had inMarch, which is not always the case in French buildings. Great locationand reasonably priced.

Review 85:Difficult to carry baggage upstairs. Remodel of old house poorly done but did have some charm

Review 86:Very good location to walk the city. The staff were friendly and helpful.the linens were clean, the breakfast passable, interes ting 15 cent. Staircase.

Review 87:The rooms were a little cold at night, needed an extra blanket asheater nit working that well. Breakfast was 6 euro.....was sufficientfor that price.

Review 88:Great location, friendly staff, hotel staff more than happy to help withany enquiries. Room clean and tidied everyday, good wifi in the rooms.Nice quaint little hotel.

Review 89:As a 74 year old traveler I found the stairway to the uppermost level alittle intimidating, but the two men at the desk tried each to be theone to carry my bags up. For the rest of my stay and upon leaving Icarefully used the winding little staircase. This seems petty, when youconsider the pluses of the place - but I had to find something wrong!

Review 90:The staff was friendly, helpful and attentive. Ped-mall is nearby, asare the chateaux and other view-worthy sites. Hotel is quiet and givesyou the feel of being in a real old French situation.

Review 91:I wondered fif it would burn to a crisp in the event of a fire. Not easyto negotiate with a large suitcase and no lift

Review 92:It was incredibly French - terrible decor, quaint little bathroom - butsomehow rather charming.

Review 93:The hotel is badly run-down with very little to commend it in terms of its facilities.

Review 94:The location of the hotel was perfect, within easy walking distance of the town centre; and the hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 95:With the hotel being designed around a 15th Century building we found the stay to be very interesting. I would recommend it to anyone who wanted to stay in a place out if the ordinary. If you want a' plastic palace' it is not for you! I say to the Hotel du Bellay - keep it up!

Review 96:The biggest problem was the location. There was very little parking in the area. What parking there was close was paid parking. The only parking we could find was close to a 1/2 mile from the Hotel.

Review 97:It was in a good location for shopping as well as dining. The price was good and the room was clean. The staff was friendly and very helpful.

Review 98:Great little hotel with a really friendly and helpful owner. Location is great with free street parking only 200m away. The shared shower was pretty pokey and small but clean

Review 99:Only that the woodwork class beds are still as uncomfortable as ever. It's ok for us as we spend the day cycling so are usually so tired wedon't much care but if you've got back issues best try somewhere else.

Review 100:Pretty much the same as the review I placed last year actually, littlehas changed which is both good and bad. The Bellay reporesentsexcellent value and is a charming hotel with a friendy accomodatingstaff. Ideally placed for access to the town and all its restaurauntsas well as the castle.

Review 101:Welcoming staff, excellent location, good breakfast (extra 6 euros).Parking wasn't a problem, three euros for a full day. En-suite providedwhat is needed. Facilities appropriate to star grading.Wasn't noisy.Winding staircase to upper floors, no lift, not a problem for me butmight be to some.

Review 102:It is very very small, shower inconveniently so. If you want any luxurydont go here. If you want the cheapest option available and you do notreally mind, then it is a reasonable option.

Review 103:Reasonable value for money

Review 104:Blois is an excellent base for a trip to the Loire chateaux, especiallyBlois, Amboise, Cheverny, Chaneanceau, Chambord...Hôtel Du Bellay offers simple rooms at excellent price, staff are helpful, the location is good, close to bus stop for the chateaux trip and 8-9 minutes to the train station, also they have free wi fi that can be used on the ground floor, not announced on the web page, which was a good surprise too!

Review 105:very friendly receptionist free internet in the hall character of the hotel (15th century building as the owner told us) very close to the castle, bakery, shop and restaurants are accross the street! parking: either in that narrow street or 5 minutes away in a public car park (think it's free after 6pm...)

Review 106:Very small 1-star hotel in downtown Blois. Not cheap as such (we paid 50 EUR/night/room without breakfast) but still cheap considering French hotel room rates in the Loire region. A very old building from the 14th century, very nice receptionist, who came to open the door at 10.00 pm (be careful, they close at 9.00 pm normally, it is a 1-star hotel after all). The rooms inside are renovated, clean and nice. Better than some other more expensive hotels we stayed in in the region.

Review 107:Our room had a problem with sanitaryware (no water in a closet basin), but it was not critical issue.

Review 108:The very user-friendly receptionist, he helped and adviced us in all issues: museums map, buy milk and water at night, parking car etc. We stayed 2 nights only, and it was quite interesting for us - we never seen real wooden sun blind on a window.

Review 109:The bathroom should be remodeled, but at least everything worked. Thewireless internet did not function in the room, and one needed to godownstairs to get a signal.

Review 110:We (family of four with pre-teen children) were in the Loire riverregion to participate in the Cheverny marathon and to visit severalchateau, and we were very satisfied with our stay at Du Bellay. It is ina charming building and has a good location. Okay, it was admittedly alittle shabby, as can be expected of a hotel located in what seems to bea very old building. However, it was spacious and clean, including our(private) bathroom, our room had a small balcony facing the frontstreet, and the friendly staff tried to be as helpful as possible, although the hostess at check-in spoke neither English nor Deutsch. Weenjoyed walking just around the corner into the old city center and tothe nearby chateau Blois, and we explored other beautiful chateau(Chambord & Chenonceau, were our favorites) by car (for which we had noproblem finding a free parking place up the street from the hotel.)Based on our experienced, the Hotel Du Bellay offers a great Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis! We would stay again.

Review 111:The staf was quite nice and the breakfast was simple, yet delicious. The magic of the 15° century building was a plus in the atmosphere of the medieval city.

Review 112:We went in the winter so it was a bit coldish but with an extra blanket it was all good. A bit old and dusty but they are working on improving the hotel.

Review 113:Perfect locatie (100m from shopping streets), 5 min foot to the castle, breakfast basic but good (just baked baguette and croissant), personnel was very friendly and helpful. Excellent price/quality ratio. Would go back should I go back to Blois.

Review 114:Parking places are hard to find. we got lucky because we went there in the winter, can imagine it being pure horror finding a space in mid-summer!

Review 115:We got offered an upgrade to a newer room that already had an en-suite. Owner is rebuilding the rooms himself, one by one. Our room was perfect for us; good (but hard, which we liked) bed, tv and a wardrobe. what more can you ask for? Owner was very friendly and talkative. Hotel is in the centre of Blois, near the castle and nice shopping streets.

Review 116:Disappointed with basic amenities very noisy outside .

Review 117:Convenient position centre if town

Review 118:The shower was very poor and needed repairing

Review 119:The breakfast room and garden were delightful. The hotel was very traditional.

Review 120:Reception close at 9 P.M.

Review 121:Helpful staff. Economy but comfortable and cozy room. Closed to center.

Review 122:The staff was very accommodating, the hotel was very cozy, and the location was ideal - walking distance to all the main attractions.

Review 123:Located in a quiet street, very near to the centre. The bed was comfortable and we had nice hot showers.

Review 124:wonderful service Happy friendly staff

Review 125:Noise from road outside Shabby in places Very basic

Review 126:Different/quirky

Review 127:Small friendly hotel, good value for money

Review 128:Friendly staff, good wi-fi.

Review 129:there is no wifi in the room, nothing else

Review 130:The staff were so friendly. And we did had a pleasant staying
