Reviews for Hôtel Crocus Caen Mémorial

Review 1:The hotel had very good reception /bar/restaurant facilities and the staff were very helpful in particular the receptionist Adeline who could not have done anymore for us . She was efficient at check in, courteous in the bar and restaurant and very helpful later in getting me the information that I needed about the town of Caen

Review 2:The address for the hotel was not recognised by my sat nav. The post code was in the middle of an office car park and I found the hotel by driving round.

Review 3:The receptionist was excellent. Very helpful.

Review 4:Use of "room perfume" in such quantity that you get headache in the next 10 minutes !! I do not understand why these toxic perfumes are used soo much, do they need to cover other odors ?... In this case, the rooms need to be renovated but not over-perfumed. Internet connection wwas too slow and of bad quality.

Review 5:Personel was very helpful and engaged.

Review 6:Bedroom decor aged and in need of updating. Cleanliness of carpet was a great concern. Disgusting stains which seemed to have had no attention. Toilet door had suffered damage and there had been no attempt to repair it. Room was a major disappointment, as was the whole upstairs area. I felt sorry for the staff who were so friendly and helpful; the above aspects let the staff down badly!

Review 7:Staff were truly exceptional. Excellent care and concern. Tried their best to alleviate problems. Entrance area/foyer attractive and clean as was the restaurant. Food good; service excellent.

Review 8:This hotel advertising said air conditioning and after we arrived in our hot rooms we realize there was none! The staff at the desk said it was broken. Very hot nights and they didn't even have a fan for the rooms!

Review 9:The only thing that could have been better was drink making facilities in the room

Review 10:The motel was easy to find. It is basic in facilities but our rooms were spotlessly clean. We had a good sleep and although you could hear other travellers leaving early, there was no room noise from either side and the sound proofing seemed to work well. We chose this hotel because it was not in the ferry port but near enough to manage the last ferry in. Breakfast was plentiful with a good choice of drinks, cereals, breads, cheese, meats, yoghurts etc. The bathroom were tiny but plenty of hot water

Review 11:Front of house was inviting but corridors and room was dingy, had seen better times. No soap provided in bathroom which was also dingy. Lights in corridors were automatic if you were lucky.

Review 12:Very friendly staff and the restaurant and food was good. Easy to find and well placed to get out of Caen

Review 13:Small room with little in way of facilities. Breakfast was not worth what we paid for it.

Review 14:Good location near to the ferry from Portsmouth and easy to find once we'd landed.

Review 15:We had room 28 on the first floor.. Very noisy being next to stairs and swinging door. Very small room. Constantly disturbed by people ( some very noisy and inconsiderate ) going past our room to walk down corridor late at night and during early hours of the morning then slamming their doors. Very poor soundproofing. People upstairs got up at 0430...... Hard to sleep. Avoid this room. Not much space outside to sit in the evening and have a drink particularly if a coach party was staying. Nowhere to go for a walk in the evening.

Review 16:A short drive from the ferry at Ouistreham. Good location to reach the D Day sites. Very helpful and polite staff. Good food. Pleasant restaurant.

Review 17:Pillows too hard and big but this is a personal issue.

Review 18:Food served was very nice. Reasonable choice of evening meals and good value. Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location for Caen memorial museum, D day beaches and the Ferry port. Good shower in room. Plenty if parking Easy to find by Sat Nav.

Review 19:Initially disappointed with the absence of tea/coffee making facilities in the room but more than compensated for by the bar and restaurant. No lounge space provided.

Review 20:Good central location for exploring the 1944 Invasion Beaches which was the main purpose of our visit. The staff were friendly and helpfull and the rooms cleaned and tidied every day. The restaurant had a good variety on offer and the breakfasts excellent.

Review 21:My only complaint would be that we had no hand towels in the bathroom, just two bath towels.

Review 22:convenient, good value for money and friendly and helpful staff.

Review 23:Weekend has fewer staff so no evening meals available. Great local Pizza restaurants within walking distance meant it doesn't matter much.

Review 24:Friendly staff, location was great for getting on/off ring road, this helped us as we were exploring the surrounding areas. Walking distance to supermarket. Good to walk the dog nearby.

Review 25:Nothing.

Review 26:Plenty of space for parking. Edge of town location perfect for sightseeing; frequent buses to the cente of town, or a short step into the Normandy countryside and surrounding villages. Generous breakfast and a dining menu that offers fresh local dishes of the day. We have tried other hotels in Normandy but keep returning to the Crocus Caen Memorial.

Review 27:Wi Fi signal was rubbish most of the time, receptionists kids hogging the only computer, a bit of a treck to the town centre but there is a retail park about 15 mins walk with shops, a couple of bars and burger places.

Review 28:cheap at less than £30 per room, no frills but clean and tidy, helpful staff, good links to the D Day beaches, 2 mins from Caen museum

Review 29:Breakfast was expensive for what it was and not good value.

Review 30:It was a small clean room but we did not expect more due to the money we paid. Good shower with lots of power and hot water.

Review 31:Budget hotel - would have liked to be able to eat there after having driven for 7 hours .... Staff didn't speak much English - but accommodation ok

Review 32:A bit of a hike to our 3rd floor room with no lift. The wifi was sketchly and unreliable but it eventually worked for what we needed. These are minor complaints. We loved our stay here.

Review 33:The staff were excellent. Lots of free parking. The restaurant was a huge surprise. Pleasant and helpful staff, excellent preparation, presentation, taste and priced fairly for the guest. Overall, we will definitely be back.

Review 34:the location of the toilet in the bath room. The ceiling was slanted and even a short 5 ft 6 in guy like me could not .stand to pee without knocking my head on the slanted ceiling

Review 35:Friendly, helpful staff With the language barrier, the staff was very patient assisting me and my needs.

Review 36:Nice hotel in the outskirts of Caen, very near to the Memorial. Rooms are very comfortable. The breakfast is tasty and abundant and the staff friendly and efficient. I would highly reccommend it if you're touring Normandy by car..

Review 37:Not much if anything

Review 38:I booked least a year before and got all my friends to book too. Was very pleasantly surprised as it was a great experience. Very pleasant staff and clean rooms. Super meals too

Review 39:The restaurant was superb. We'd just booked to stop overnight en route to Brittany, and found the hotel really friendly and convenient, but the quality of the evening meal was a major bonus.

Review 40:There was nothing about the hotel that I didn't like :)

Review 41:We really enjoyed our 6-night stay at this well-located hotel which is situated in a reasonably quiet but easily accessible and highly respectable part of the town. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times. We only had a few evening meals at the hotel but were never disappointed - was certainly the best value for money we encountered anywhere. Added bonuses was its easy proximity to 3 bus routes and the historical and educational splendour of the Caen Memorial. If I was fortunate enough to be in a position to return to Caen (delightful town that it is) I would definitely return.

Review 42:Room was small, it smelled a little and needed airing, there was only 3 single beds for a family of 4 food in restaurant was way overpriced in relation to quality The place seriously needs a lick of paint and updating, its still stuck in the 80s

Review 43:beds were actually comfortable shower was amazing staff were very friendly

Review 44:One staff member at breakfast, struggling to replenish supplies of food and coffee (self service) Bar shut when we arrived at 10.30 No water in room and no drink making facilities

Review 45:convenient location ample parking Good sized room clean decent clean bathroom comfortable beds Good value

Review 46:The Crocus is extremely well-placed for ferry travellers either arriving g or departing France, being only 15/20 mins from Ouistreham port. I use it when I can if it fits with my plans. It is clean, comfortable and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Review 47:No tea making facilities in room. No lift. (But the receptionist did carry my suitcase up the stairs for me. ) Lots of noisy children on our first night.

Review 48:Good parking facilities. Nice restaurant. Good selection at breakfast. Dog friendly.

Review 107:Ideal Location, not expensive. Not The Ritz, but I did not pay Ritz prices!

Review 108:Staff very good. Food very good

Review 109:Size of room and bathroom

Review 110:Staff and service

Review 111:We were on the top floor and the ceiling/walls was angular so the kids and my husband bumped their heads or had to lean over. It was a little cramped, but not bad by European standards!

Review 112:The staff was excellent, friendly and helpful. It is just a walk away from the Caen Memorial Museum and for the money it is excellent value.

Review 113:We were not properly adviced that the hotel closed at 11:00 p.m. When we returned after midnight, we had to struggle to get in. Then, we found our room open and with the keys on the bed. When I presented my claim to the clerck, he told us that those were the conditions stablished in an e-mail that we never received. Anyway, it should be clearly stablised in the web page.
