Reviews for Hôtel Crocus Caen Parc Expo

Review 1:We arrived mid afternoon to much the same reception as usual and arranged to have dinner in the restaurant at 8.00pm. We were asked several times about breakfast which we had declined due to our early ferry. Our room on the top floor was of regular standard and we relaxed after our journey until it was time for dinner. We arrived in the dining area to a brusque reception which became worse when I asked for a menu and wine list neither of which was available. The choice was a basic chicken or two fish dishes and white, red or rose wine by the carafe. The starter buffet was limited, looked tired, dry and not very appealing. we took aperitifs of kir unaccompanied by any enhancement and the kir glasses were still on the table when we left. The cooked food was acceptable but the whole experience was uncomfortable not least by the attitude of the service. After a further enquiry regarding breakfast I settled the account and we left early in the morning vowing not to return to a hotel which had served us well in the past but is no longer able to fulfill the requirements of the most basic of restaurants in France.

Review 2:We have stayed at Crocus Expo on numerous occasions over recent years as an overnight stay before taking the return ferry to UK. The hotel is clean, comfortable and as far as our requirements and a two star rating it has fulfilled our needs very well. One main attraction has always been the in-house restaurant which has improved over time, offering a reasonable choice of food and wine, including a buffet starter and dessert. We have had no hesitation in booking this hotel as part of our return trip from our property in France until our most recent visit.

Review 3:Staff was very cooperative, even brought electrical adaptors to my room. Location was out of crowded downtown and had good safe parking. Facilities were more than adequate and comfortable. Would definitely recommend hotel to others.

Review 4:NO disabled room! Plug in sink didn't work - had to prise it out of the sink hole with my fingers. Absolutely unhygeinic bath mat caked in grime!

Review 5:Free parking

Review 6:Dark on top floor hallways at night until we learned how to turn the lights on.

Review 7:Staff were friendly. Enjoyed the bar & restaurant service. Good food. Good location. Free parking.

Review 8:Our journey was booked at the last minute due to family bereavement. We arrived late, became lost in Caen, but were unable to contact the hotel because we had no 'phone usable in France. The hotel was locked when we arrived and we spent the first few hours trying to sleep in the car! If the hotel cannot engage staff until late they could, perhaps, provide a direct line within the hotel enabling staff to be alerted. Fortunately other guests arrived late but were known to the manager and able to arrange through him for us to have access to the room we had booked.

Review 9:Helpful staff

Review 10:Entry is difficult only one way along a duel carriagway dont blink at the wrong time, room stank of ingrained smoking, cigarette burns in bathroon sink, carpet sticky.room very hot no aircon.mattress very hard and wherever you lie you rolled to the centre making it a very uncomfortable night and disturbed sleep.

Review 11:Friendy receptionist

Review 12:The only downside would be not with the hotel but the transportation on the weekends and a lot of restaurants are closed weekends as well.

Review 13:The staff was amazing, super friendly and helpful. Called to reserve us a spot for the D-day tour as well as a taxi. Near 2 bus stops that go to the center. Provide bus info. Close to a mailbox.

Review 14:We were hoping to have a nice dinner in town after an 8-hour drive to Caen but it took us over 45 minutes to find an eatery that would serve dinner. Plenty of people were having drinks at bars & cafes. Apparently lunch is the main meal in France. Had we known this, we would have stayed in the hotel - their menu was good.

Review 15:The receptionist was very helpful. Room was comfortable.

Review 16:Easy to find without having to go into central Caen. We were heading back to Paris from Bayeux, so able to pick up the ring road straight to the hotel. Easy exit route as well. Food basic but ok.j

Review 17:The wifi strength in my room wasn't the strongest but the internet loaded eventually.

Review 18:I was staying one night in caen and this hotel was just what I needed. Bus 11 from train station and a 2 minute walk to the hotel from the bus stop. The bath was a great touch to the hotel.

Review 19:The bed was not very comfortable but that is the only thing we could complain about.

Review 20:The staff were helpful and friendly without being gushing. The food both at breakfast and dinner was very good and good value.

Review 21:There is nothing to dislike at the Crocus.

Review 22:I have reviewed the Crocus on previous occasions and my recent overnight stay was to the same standard. This is not a glitzy, all-singing, all-dancing hotel; it provides everything that is required of the traveller without any expensive frills but the bonus of a restaurant serving good food at very good prices

Review 23:11 pm hotel staff ( 1+1 receptionist/barman/waiter + chef) go home and leave only night watchman in the hotel. Bar not stocked and lounge consisted of three armchairs behind screen.

Review 24:Carparking good, Clean room fresh towels daily

Review 25:Connected rooms with shared facilities so the children had a shower room and the parents had a bathroom. Worked well and could hear them through the door without a monitor.

Review 26:Bedroom and bathroom were clean but a little shabby. The bathroom was tiny with a vicious step at the doorway.

Review 27:On site parking. Comfortable beds. Good value breakfast. Friendly and helpful staff.

Review 28:It was very easy to find and not too far to walk into the city centre. The rooms were good value for money and if you want to watch a SM Caen football match it only a few hundred metres walk.

Review 29:The bathroom was tiny and had a vicious step into it from the bedroom. Rooms slightly tatty and in need of refurbishment.

Review 30:Staff were friendly and helpful. Ample parking. Beds were very comfortable.

Review 31:Stuffy rooms

Review 32:Location, coming out of the ferry, for a night stop over. The rooms need a serious refreshing work, the price is very accommodating, that explaining this probably.

Review 33:Reception staff unhelpful and dis interested bedrooms and bathroomfilthy no restaurant open on a saturday night no staff around on checkout in the morning horrible area along way from the ferry and very badlysignposted

Review 34:Nothing

Review 35:The bathroom was a little difficult as water went every where so impossible to change clothes in as well as the step into it took time to get used to. It appeared to be on a floating floor

Review 36:The position of the hotel was convenient for the WEG and the restaurant value for money.

Review 37:wifi was very difficult to get and I had to go to another hotel to get onto the internet which was a pain !

Review 38:Nice food, very nice owners, great location.

Review 39:Restaurant food basic selection Beds too hard No air conditioner No tea coffee in room

Review 40:Location for stadium Wifi good Staff friendly Clean Economical price

Review 41:Room a little cramped but clean & comfortable.

Review 42:Very clean. Staff friendly & helpful. Breakfast very good value - tons of food & a good variety.

Review 43:Using the satnav it was easy to find. It was a 30 minute walk from the hotel into the centre of Caen where we found many restaurants and bars. The rooms were clean, the beds were comfortable and the staff were very helpful.

Review 44:difficult to find in dark lighting on timer in foyer, but there should be at least one light permanently on near lifts/stairs. rooms look a little dated

Review 45:comfort bath/bathroom pleasant/polite staff cheap and cheerful, arrived too late to make further comments.

Review 46:Rooms bit outdated and needs bit of fixing-up. Not big rooms but average size (European standards).

Review 47:Good beds. Friendly staff. Adequate breakfast. Quiet rooms (even if next to elevator). Possibility to have two connecting rooms (family room). On-site free parking (no surveillance but looks safe).

Review 48:The ensuite bathroom was a bit 'mass-produced' but everything worked

Review 49:Receptionist was excellent - got us good quality and value meals after a long journey; the staff are very friendly and work very hard but always with a smile

Review 50:The food was poor and I was glad we had a room only. The sound insulation was poor and we were awoken by people in the corridor when they werem't being noisy. I had a couple of cups of coffee in the the morning and was charged 1.50. That's mean.

Review 51:Only the price

Review 52:Tiny rooms, tiny bathrooms, loud assembly on the Saturday morning when we left. Breakfast looked very sparse for the amount they wanted per person.

Review 53:Quiet in the evenings, location was pretty close (driving distance) to local attractions.

Review 54:Slightly understaffed when there was a coach load of (I believe) Dutch 'older' tourists who got to the buffet starters and desserts before us and the poor waitress was rushed off her feet doing extremely well to cope.: TIP, get into the restaurant early

Review 55:What my wife and I particularly like are the facts that we can check in and have a decent evening meal on site (without having to roam round looking for somewhere to eat and not know what you will get) and that it is an easy 25 minute drive to the ferry in the morning

Review 56:Dark corridors and lack of atmosphere

Review 57:Helpful when needing a Taxi into the City

Review 58:Great value for your money. It's a relatively short footwalk distance to the center and quite cheap.

Review 77:Location

Review 78:Staff were very nice & helpful, food & stay was very good value for money.

Review 79:The room looked like someone had opened a huge can of coke and sprayed it over the walls and ceiling. Rooms are tired.

Review 80:A bit further walk than expected to restaurants and city centre.
