Reviews for La Cour des Carmes

Review 1:Fabulous B&B and host. Marvellous room in a peaceful location, as it is set back behind the houses on the main street, with the best continental breakfast I have ever had! Right in the centre of town, so the squares and restaurants are all easily accessible. Access is tight at the gates at approx 2m, our current 5 series BMW had about 10cm clearance with the mirrors folded in, but once through, the lane is wider and the very secure courtyard has plenty of room to turn around. Great find and would definately stay there again.

Review 2:Claire-Marie was an absolute delight - welcoming, knowledgeable about Arras, and extremely helpful. She was happy to let my spouse practise her French. The huge room (one of two) is in a beautifully renovated old building across the courtyard from Claire-Marie's house that she and her husband have spent 10 years lovingly restoring. Claire-Marie had a lovely French breakfast for us each morning at the time we requested. Despite her excellent directions, we managed to miss the narrow cobbled lane that leads to the courtyard. We highly recommend this gem!

Review 3:What's not to like.

Review 4:Mine Hostess is just charming and very helpful. The location couldn't be better for exploring Arrass. The accommodation is lovely and the breakfast superb(bring your own marmalade).

Review 5:Not carping at all but it was a little difficult to find as No 23 Rue Gambetta is in a side street but the charming hostess took the trouble to ring me to direct me to her door. So really I liked what I didn't like!

Review 6:Everything about it was excellent, it is not really a hotel at all but a private house with two guest bedrooms, beautiful large comfortable bedrooms and then a personalised and very generous breakfast the next morning

Review 7:Tricky to find the narrow road to secured parking and slightly difficult with a wide car.(would not put me off returning)

Review 8:Lovely convenient place to stay Spacious, pretty, clean Excellent breakfast Private parking Near to shops restaurants square

Review 9:Wonderful host and B&B. The room was excellent and the bathroom was fantastic. We really enjoyed our stay and wish we were there for longer. It was very central (and easy to find with the directions we were provided with) and yet very quiet as it was at the back of the property. Top notch! Monoprix & two bookstores steps away.

Review 10:The narrow passage leading to the house is daunting - but the owner drives a Range Rover along it, so take heart!

Review 11:Very friendly, excellent room with everything we needed. Very good breakfast.

Review 12:Caution required driving up the lane way but ample parking on arrival.

Review 13:The memory foam bed is amazing to sleep on. The cleanliness of the rooms is excellent. The hostess is warm and welcoming and very helpful. We enjoyed this stay very much.

Review 14:Difficult to find. Hotel is up a little lane which is very narrow and could do with better sign posts.

Review 15:Everything. The owner could not have been more helpful. Very comfortable bed.

Review 16:Extremely warm welcome to a lovely decorated room, the bed was very comfy and the breakfast was delicious with a plentiful choice. The location of the property is ideal for exploring the town, where there is plenty of choice for activities and places to eat.

Review 17:The hostess was friendly and charming and helpful with good advice about our time there in the town and how to visit Vimy Memorial. The room was very spacious and clean. The breakfast was just excellent. The croissants just floated off the plate! Highly recommended

Review 18:A quiet corner right in the heart of Arras. Very comfortable rooms with a separate lounge. Claire-Marie is a charming host and her breakfasts are excellent. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Review 19:Nothing

Review 20:The friendly owner welcomed us with tea and coffee served on the ground floor. This has a sitting area, breakfast area and kitchen which the guests can use at all times. Our room was spacious, very clean, beautifully decorated and furnished. It had a shower ensuite and separate toilet. I cannot praise this establishment highly enough. It is convenient to walk to the centre of Arras ( 5 minutes), yet amazingly quiet. The private courtyard where you can park is beautiful and the rooms face the owners house in a separate building. As stated by others the lane looks very narrow but is deceptive. One of the best B & Bs we have stayed in and I would recommend it to anyone.

Review 21:Hostess was charming, helping and very friendly. Accommodation was superb, very comfortable and spacious. Handy to the Town Square, lots to do and see, regret not having more time there.

Review 22:Initially we couldn't find La Cour des Carmes which is up a lane behind the houses on the street but I had missed the email giving directions. We found our way with a little local help at the Monoprix opposite. It was well worth finding!

Review 23:The room was huge with the most comfortable bed ever, heating, large bathroom with a great shower and all with attention to detail and presentation. The breakfast was beautifully presented and delicious. Our host, Claire Marie was very friendly and happy to converse in French or English.

Review 24:None

Review 25:Owner is cheerful and very accommodating in every respect. Rooms are large and very comfortable, with a nice lobby area that serves as breakfast room and sitting area for drinks.

Review 26:There are several comments about the difficulty in finding the house and the narrowness of the entry road. Claire Marie e-mailed us very detailed instructions prior to our arrival and once on the correct road there is no difficulty in locating the property. Yes, the road is narrow but we have a slightly wider than average car and was able to tackle this without any problem.

Review 27:Beautiful building in the heart of Arras yet beautifully secluded and quiet. A short 10 minute walk to the Place des Heroes. Claire Marie was a wonderful host who enthused about Arras and was able to advise on all the local attractions. So nice to have a wonderful stitting area downstairs where you are able to make yourself a hot drink, a facility not often found on the continent, and read up on the local area. The rooms are tastefully decorated with large comfy beds and quality furnishings. Secure parking.

Review 28:Amazing hotel quite close to the main square and the Place des Heros. Set back from the street, this bed and breakfast is very peaceful. Very friendly and helpful owner who gave us some excellent restaurant advice and served us a really good breakfast with some croissants to die for!

Review 29:Very friendly hostess who was most helpful when we woke up the next morning to a flat tyre! Many thanks for offers of help from her husband as well. Spacious room with very comfortable bed. Good location as in the centre of Arras town with private parking a bonus.

Review 30:The situation of La Cour is central, between the railway station and Place des Heroes. Set back from the street, it is very peaceful. The facilities are to the highest standard.

Review 31:A wonderful welcome, beautiful and comfortable room, a delightful breakfast in a spacious and attractive living area. Felt like an oasis in the centre of the twon and very close to the beautiful central square. Would definitely come again.

Review 32:The narrow passage leading to the house it is a very tight .Also hard to find the road. Names are high up and very small. After driving round for a good while we asked a police man.who gave us good directions.

Review 33:The property was loverly. The room we had was big with a seperate toilet and bathroom .we where able to sit at the table down stairs and have our evening meal and make tea and coffee.we hope to stay longer next time.Every thing was clean .we loved it all.

Review 34:no wifi and the parking entry/exit is very difficult. normal size saloon car was pretty tight in places and the uneven surface at the gate meant i grounded the car on a gate stay

Review 35:everything was absolutely perfect apart from the inaccessible wi fi and access. mrs Lamoril is a delightful welcoming hostess and was very helpful and cheerful. beautifully tasteful furnishings and very comfortable rooms with utmost privacy. beware the staircase to bedrooms for elderley people

Review 36:Alley leading to accommodation a little narrow if you have a bigger car but plenty of space in the private courtyard for parking

Review 37:Claire-Marie was very welcoming, rooms were great and very comfortable. Breakfast was fresh and plentiful. Nothing but good things to say!

Review 38:Nothing.

Review 39:Closeness to city center yet away from any noise. Communal lounge/kitchen area with tea/coffee making facilities available all day. Large bedrooms.

Review 40:The only drawback is the very narrow lane you have to drive down to reach the property (only about 50 yards) - pull your wing mirrors in before driving down it!

Review 41:Great property which has all been recently refurbished. Comfortable beds, tastefully furnished, with good sized rooms and a spacious bathroom. All spotlessly clean. Your host is very welcoming and serves a tasty breakfast.

Review 42:This beautiful bed and breakfast is a hidden gem in a quiet setting. Our hostess was charming and helpful. The location was perfect for sight seeing and for visiting Vimy Ridge. If we ever have the opportunity to return to this part of France, we will certainly return here.

Review 43:Cannot fault it

Review 44:We stayed here for five days while doing a trip around the First World War battlefields. What a great place to stay. Claire Marie could not have been more helpful. She even sent us a text before we arrived to give us proper directions to the house. The rooms are very spacious and spotlessly clean and the breakfasts are more than adequate for a days walking. Less than five minutes walk from main square. We will definitely be going back for another stay.

Review 45:Maybe just a little more attention to detail at breakfast needed but excellent quality croissants, bread and coffee

Review 46:Beautiful decor, the most comfortable bed ever! Great location, quiet and central with parking. Lovely hostess, friendly and helpful - she lives in the house across the courtyard with her family and beautiful dog. Would certainly return.

Review 47:It was very hard to find as there is no sign of no 23 Rue Gambetta and it requires looking up an alley to find the entrance.

Review 48:The location was fantastic - right in the centre of the town but secluded and private and quiet. The house is beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The breakfast was very good and the owner very helpful.

Review 49:This was a really beautiful building with amazingly tasteful and comfortable furnishings and decor. The owner was charming and welcoming. The building was a five minute walk from the main squares and was pretty well perfect in every respect. Will definitely return.

Review 50:The narrow lane to get to it! The lane is off Rue Gambetta at the side of the pharmacy - we looked and thought will the car get down - it did but I was glad that the wing mirrors pull in.

Review 51:Madame spoke a little English so that helped. The facilities and whole experience was excellent.

Review 52:Difficult to find. Hidden up a tiny alley behind green metal doors, and no doorbell. Once this hurdle was jumped; perfection!

Review 53:Close to the two main squares. Just two large, tastefully decorated rooms in a newly restored old house, and great personal attention from the owner. Secure, free parking.

Review 54:The only thing that we missed, was a full length dress mirror - and curtains on the bathroom windows.

Review 55:The welcome was so friendly, the room and lounge have been beautifully renovated. The breakfast was excellent. The room was soooo quiet at night and lovely and comfortable. Great secure parking - but a bit a bit tight for anything bigger than an Espace. Close to the city centre. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner. A great place.

Review 56:No negatives

Review 57:Superbly refurbished annexe to the main house. The locked gates kept our motorbikes safe while we explored the beautifully lit architecture in the squares in the centre of town.

Review 58:It's difficult to find, as there are no signs. You go up a narrow lane beside the bookshop and you'll see 23 beside a door. Ring the doorbell.

Review 59:Everything. The accommodation is beautiful, spacious, quiet, elegant and welcoming. The owner is friendly, chatty, interesting, generous and helpful. The breakfast is delicious, and beautifully served. I would give it 11/10 if I could.

Review 60:The wifi was a little temperamental but who cares?

Review 61:This property is a little hard to find - it is in a lane off Rue Gambetta not on Rue Gambetta itself but that is part of its charm. It is tucked away in it's own courtyard behind gates and is incredibly peaceful. The owner, Claire-Marie is welcoming, helpful and friendly. The property itself has been recently and tastefully renovated to a high standard and is wonderfully comfortable. Breakfast is excellent. It is a perfect location for exploring Arras or the surrounding area. We were sad to leave.

Review 62:Having previously been used to staying in hotels, we assumed the bed would be made and towels changed, etc. It seems that in France this is not the case with guest houses.

Review 63:We were so impressed with the high standard of this charming guest house. The couple who own it were so friendly and helpful and were able to give us lots of advice and information on the local area. The bedroom was very large, tastefully furnished and with a king size bed which was very comfortable. It is located down a small alleyway, so the location is quiet, yet still very central to local attractions. Highly recommended!

Review 64:Lovely newly renovated room with use of kitchenette. Breakfast excellent and at time of our choice. The owners were very welcoming and helpful
