Reviews for Hôtel Diamant
Review 1:The central location has its obvious advantages as I have stated, however driving in Arras is akin to driving in the West End or the City in Central London but more challenging due to driving on the opposite side of the road and road signage language my be a problem for some vistors 'Wacky Races' springs to mind. The other problem for some people will be car parking. The is a short stay (30 minutes) car park at the opposite end of the square but overnight car parking is in a square around the corner. This maybe a problem for those who have trouble carrying their luggage or those who simply do not want to hump their luggage to the hotel. The nearest Car Parking location is distant but evidently this is out of the control of Hotel Diamant.
Review 2:The location of Hotel Diamant is in the centre of Arras, which is in easy walking distance to restaurants including fast food establishments, bars and shops. The location is close to CWGC Cemeteries and World War One battle sites which was the reason for our family visit. We booked the 6 bed apartment which consists of 1 double bed, 1 double sofa bed and 2 single beds. The apartment is very well equiped with an electric hob, oven, large fridge freezer, dishwasher, washing machine, shower, coffee maker, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, TV and Wifi which was very weak. The first floor apartment was kept very clean and tidy and the bed linen was white clean and crisp during our stay for 2 days and 2 nights. The tall windows overlook the central square with its restaurants, bars and shops but surprisingly the apartment is very quiet considering its central location. Our hotel manager / receptionist explained that Arras and the hotel was severely damaged in WW1 and re-built after the war using the original plans but was so severely damaged again during WW2 that the hotel and surrounding buildings are only the original front facade of the buildings. This now leads on to our other observation that the floor in the first floor apartment is not level and slopes away to the fireplace and kitchen area. I have sailed many boats and it is akin to walking a deck while sailing or afloat. Certainly a strange and quirky feeling in a building but it did not bother us and was quite amusing. We only met one member of staff who was friendly and helpful. I would highly recommend Hotel Diamant
Review 3:Need to explain parking in detail as we were woken at 6.30am to move our car because of the market.
Review 4:The central position of the hotel, the comfort and cleanliness. Pleasant staff. Plenty of places to eat and a market out of this world
Review 5:On Friday night there was not so much noise, but on Saturday night there was much loud music from the square. My room had double glass, but I think even triple or quadruple glass couldn't stop it. Fortunately the noise stopped at about 1 AM.
Review 6:The front rooms have a great view over the market square. Friendly man at the reception. A fine historical building..
Review 7:I would only say that parking is only free on the square at night and not available on Saturdays at all due to the market. There is a large underground car park nearby, 10 euros for 24hrs.
Review 8:Location is fantastic, right on the square. Staff absolutely wonderful, could not be more friendly and helpful. Excellent location for visiting WW1 battlefields and memorials.
Review 9:Hasn't been updated for a while
Review 10:Great location right in the state of this quiet little town , 5 minute walk fr the train station. Surrounded be good restaurants , bakeries and shop
Review 11:The only thing negative is that the shower room floor as in need of replacement.
Review 12:we had booked the apartment which is in the next door building, which looks directly out onto the Place Des Heros & the belltower, a World heritage site. Large roomy apartment with everything provided - even some milk, juice & water in the fridge, some breakfast cereals and coffee machine. Very comfortable with lots of little finishing touches, such as umbrellas & teabags. Staff give a warm friendly welcome
Review 13:Room was very small and in need of renovation. It didn't feel clean. No lift, so beware of many stairs.
Review 14:Location to the station and being right on the square were fabulous.
Review 15:no bad experiences except for the rain.
Review 16:We were the older children, my brother and I. The hotel was easy to find, we got where we were going with no problem and the two squares (Heros and Grand) were right where we wanted to be.
Review 17:I could not fault my stay in any way.
Review 18:The apartment was excellent, fitted out to a good standard and spotlessly clean. The manager spoke good English and was very friendly and helpful. The coffee machine in the apartment had a huge selection of tea's and coffee's, plus complimentary milk, orange juice and breakfast cereal. The location in the old square was stunning, beautiful buildings, nice shops and restaurants.
Review 19:The actual room was very basic and small. There was only room for one chair down the side of the bed. It was all very confined. Could have done with Tea or Coffee facilities in the room.
Review 20:Staff stayed up for our late check in,very helpful and spoke English.
Review 21:Great location and quiet even though on the square. Parking is close by on the street and free overnight if you arrive after 6pm and leave before 9am. Very helpful owner.
Review 22:It was all great.
Review 23:The welcome from the host The coffee, cereal and orange juice in the room and the room itself. Very reasonable price as often find it hard to find somewhere for a family of five.
Review 24:Great apartment. Really well appointed and in a fabulous location on the town square. Juice, cereals, coffee supplied, and these were refreshed each day. Apartment cleaned each day also. Really enjoyed our stay and would recommend.
Review 25:Rooms very old, very small and tired in need of major upgrade A disappointment for a town centre location Bathrooms very small and dated with poor quality of towels etc
Review 26:Location Town Centre Good parking close by
Review 27:Noise from tenants in the upstairs apartment part way into the morning, but to be somewhat expected with wooden floors in an historic building.
Review 28:Ideal location, next to the Stadhuis. Kitchen supplied with coffee machine & pods, milk, OJ, bottled water. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Main bedroom is on the back of the apartment, facing inner courtyard, so outside ambient noise not an issue. Lights on the Place des Heros go out at midnight, signaling the party to pack up, so not much post-midnight noise.
Review 29:In room 3 access and egress from the shower is constricted and requires a bit of contortion. A larger person than myself would find it difficult if not unsafe.
Review 30:This was my second visit, I returned because this seriously good hotel and I enjoyed my stay
Review 31:This is the best kind of traditional French hotel. A welcoming, caring staff ready to help you with everything. You won't get a huge, US-style room, but you will be very comfortable, and there's a super breakfast.
Review 32:No lift, but it wasn't a problem for us, just to note.
Review 33:Very nice hotel in central location. Facilities were very tidy and clean, and newly fitted out Great breakfast Attentive and helpful staff
Review 34:Decor is old school and accommodation is not overly spacious however wouldn't let that put you off as the hotel has a lot in its favour.
Review 35:Friendly, attentive owner/manager oF the tradiational type. Perfect location in the town square. Able to nip in and out of accommodation as you please. Coffee, tea etc available at all times.Able to soak up the hustle and bustle of French cafe culture. If you don't like noise or enjoy an early night then ask for a quiet room. I wanted to look onto the square for the atmosphere of the cafe-bars at night and Saturday morning market outside my window so was prepared for the noise (which was not insignificant and does go on into the early hours).
Review 36:The square was very noisy late at night.
Review 37:Fantastic location, the apartment we stayed in was right on one of the main squares. The apartment itself was really well equipped and very clean.
Review 38:The room needed a complete overhaul, everything felt a bit grubby, especially the carpets and bathroom suite. Also, there was no tea or coffee facilities in room, that's only a little thing though.
Review 39:Right next to the town hall, means there is parking and lots of local restaurants and bars. Staff were helpful and pet friendly. We stayed in a hotel room, the apartments were a bit more expensive but looked nicer on the pictures.
Review 40:Breakfast was a bit expensive but it was good.
Review 41:We stayed in the studio apartment which was brilliant with a great view over the square with another friend in a single. The apartment had everything you would need and the manager stored out bikes safely for us.
Review 42:Very, very helpful staff who organised more for us than the tourism office could. The location is superb as the hotel is right on the main square. Nice area and great for battlefields trips. Top staff.
Review 43:Nothing. If you don't like this place stay in the UK.
Review 44:Areas is a beautiful place and this hotel is in one of the most stunning squares in France. Hotel is incredible value for money, couldn't be faulted
Review 45:Location was very central which was good. We managed to park behind the town hall which was quite close to the hotel. Staff were very helpful and welcoming.
Review 46:Lack of a parking space at the hotel itself, although there are numerous car parks available nearby, so it wasn't too much of a problem.
Review 47:We stayed with our daughters in the apartment, which was fantastic. The owners' thought of everything, there was even milk in the fridge for when we arrived. Although overlooking the square, which at night was very bustly, we didn't get any noise in the room. And with the market in the square below on Saturday and a patisserie literally just outside the front door, everything was at hand to make breakfast. Similarly, at night, the square is full of nice places to eat. Definitely will be returning at some point.
Review 48:Tiny room but comfortable....good WiFi, comfortable bed, friendly greeting when we arrived, free parking after 6 p.m., great shower.....breakfast available for about 10 E, but we didn't try it...lots of eating places nearby....
Review 49:No hotel parking, but that's to be expected!
Review 50:Good service from real people with great sense of humour. Clean room, and quite even though facing the main square. Great breakfast with 'real' butter!
Review 51:No issues at all
Review 52:our unit overlooked the main square and offered excellent access to restaurants and sites. The owner was very helpful and the unit offered many extra touches such as a great coffee machine and a washer / dryer
Review 53:As my friend was unable to walk far we had to take a bus to town but otherwise everywhere was in walking distance for the average traveller. No washing facilities and laundromat was across town. No attempt to help with this as I know other places I have stayed would have. Nice staff but only just doing their job.
Review 54:The room was extremely large and on the ground floor as we had requested if possible. Atrium for a dining room was lovely facing a pleasant garden, useful when my friend had a day in to recover from a heavy cold.
Review 55:There were problems with the Wifi which were not resolved satisfactorily. Not a big issue but if free Wifi is offered you expect it to be available and working and for 3 of the 4 days it wasn't.
Review 56:The apartment we stayed in was clean and had everything we needed. It was well positioned in the city center so we could go out and about easily to eat and explore. Would recommend the breakfast in the hotel good value for money at Euro 10.50 each.
Review 57:Nothing really.
Review 58:A nice, standard small hotel. Small room but clean and adequate for one night. Parking is difficult but can be found on streets close to main square. The location is excellent.
Review 59:Room extremely small, more suitable as a single than a double room. No elevator. Attic room on 3rd floor up very narrow staircase could pose problem for the unfit or elderly. No aircon so would imagine this room to be extremely hot in summer.
Review 60:Good location, friendly welcome. Very comfy bed.
Review 61:Room a bit small and the decor a little tired however very clean and reasonable price
Review 62:The location of this hotel was just the best right on the square. Next to the belfry good location for the many bars and restaurants. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 63:A lovely, spacious apartment with excellent facilities. The little touches of milk & orange juice on arrival in the fridge, mini cereal boxes were there for the children's breakfast & a coffee machine - all thoughtful touches when travelling so long that day with a young family. Being located within such a picturesque town square just added to the ambience of our children's first french experience! Thoroughly recommended & compared to our french version of the Travelodge we stayed in the following night, for the same amount of money, I thought it was great value. (Ideally situated too en route to Paris, just an hour's drive from Calais meant that we could break up the journey in comfort!)
Review 64:None.
Review 65:Great location in centre of Arras, no problem parking car. Hotel businesslike,no real frills, above basic, reasonably priced, ideal for a single night stop over and only an hour away from Cross Channel ferry/tunnel
Review 66:Not a problem for us at all but some advise which may prove useful - our family apartment was on the second floor with a lovely original staircase and no lift option - so if you have restricted mobility this may not be the best accommodation choice for you.
Review 67:Centrally located so ideal base to explore all the delights of the Artois region. Parking payable just around the corner, but very reasonable and 2 hours grace over the lunchtime period. Well equipped kitchen if you decide to eat in; great simple coffee machine; daily chamber maid; basic cereals, milk, water and juice provided. The 2* rating does not do the apartment justice.
Review 68:Pillows and towels could be better but hey ho, we slept and showered fine.
Review 69:On arrival the Manager greeted us in English which was greatly appreciated. Very friendly and informative offering a guide map too. Hotel is perfectly positioned overlooking the main square and Town Hall/tourist office. Many excellent bars restaurants and shops in immediate vicinity. Clean tidy and excellent selection of fresh items for continental breakfast. You will not start the day hungry !!!
Review 70:sorry, but no disadvantages found
Review 71:Location: it is right on a central sq. with a perfect view. Service: you have a feeling that you are at home with high-level service. Kitchen has all possible facilities
Review 72:Monsieur was, as always, very efficient and helpful. We stayed between Xmas and New Year - cold outside, warm inside. Good selection of books available to borrow and water and OJ etc available. Loads of good places to eat within a few steps. Hint - stay at the back to avoid the cobble induced noises!
Review 73:We were unfortunate to have a noisy younger group in a privately owned apartment above the sitting room, where the third member was sleeping in the sofa bed. This was not the fault of the hotel.
Review 74:The sitting/dining room, which is well appointed, looks out onto the square and close to the bells! The kitchen has everything you would want, including milk, juice and water in the fridge. The remodelled bathroom contains washing machine. The bedroom is spacious, and quiet (as at the back of the building).
Review 75:Stayed in the apartment for one night in December. Lovely, comfortable apartment. Really appreciated the free espresso machine and orange juice, milk. View over square is lovely and had yummy breakfast from boulangerie next door.
Review 76:Very dated hotel, could do with a revamp. No lift so stairs up, with cases. Bed not very comfortable
Review 77:Great location, right on the square with many restaurants and bars. Square facing window with beautiful view, noise was not an issue but could be heard.
Review 78:I booked the apartment and was not disappointed. Lots of little touches which made a big difference, they had thought of everything. Lovely coffe machine, tea, milk, juice and water. Great selection of toiletries. Location was perfect for the xmas market. Would highly recommend!
Review 79:Depends what you want - ideal for me, but some would say a little care-worn. Steep stairs.
Review 80:Generally an excellent stay. Good breakfasts and pretty much everything else. I'd have no hesitation about staying again.
Review 81:M Caillet stayed up to for us arriving at 11.45pm (after the M25 was closed!), which was very good of him and vital for us. The room was small and basic but comfortable and perfect for what we wanted, and very clean! We didn't have time to make the most of Arras but the location of the hotel is superb. We'd definitely use it again and return to see more of Arras.
Review 82:We stayed int he family apartment, what an amazing central location! Staff very helpful on check-in, and the apartment was well stocked with complimentary Nespresso, milk and orange juice.
Review 83:Nothing at all
Review 84:Location, view from window, coffee machine, interior decor. It was like being at a friend's home and not an apartment. Inclusion of teas, coffee and juice. Local bakery for breakfast. Overall fantastic!
Review 85:Nothing!
Review 86:This was my 4th visit to the Diamont. M.Phillippe was helpful and welcoming. The Hotel could not be better situated right on the Place des Heroes-Breakfast was good and coffee available free all day Don't expect big posh rooms - they are pretty basic but adequate and value for money
Review 87:Rooms were a little on the small side.
Review 88:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They even had a good selection of Gluten Free items for breakfast. The rooms and bedding were very clean. It is right in one of the two main squares.
Review 89:We didn't need a lift but it might be an issue. The hotel is built in the classic Arras style, ie upwards. It could be an issue for anyone with mobility issues.
Review 90:We had a two day break in Arras. The idea being to park up the car and leave it. The location of the Diamant is ideal, being right in the corner of the best of the two squares in the centre. All the bars and restaurants are all around you. The owner was good. We made an effort soeaking French and he then tried his English (which was much better than my French). Our room was a bit small but we booked very late on so no complaints. There is tea/coffee and fruit juice available downstairs foc at all times.
Review 91:WiFi connection only worked on the laptop.Couldn't get a signal for the smartphones.
Review 92:the manager was very helpful and friendly.Couldn't do enough to help you at breakfast time! the room we had overlooked the square-amazing! thought it was going to be noisey but was not as the double glazing was fantastic. The bed was comfortable and the location ideal for all amenities.complimentary tea/coffe/juice in the lounge area was a nice touch too
Review 93:Very tiny room w twin beds. The rugs and paint are tired, and the furniture isn't great, but hey, put it in perspective.
Review 94:Location on the central square. Breakfast was simple but good and varied. Very clean. Excellent value (cheap!). The owner is very attentive, speaks English ( most in the area don't), a little eccentric, but very nice.
Review 95:Wifi a bit weak
Review 96:The 5 bed apartment was really nice. One bedroom with a double and single bed plus sofa bed in lounge. The apartment was nice place to relax inbetween excursions.
Review 97:The apartment is on the first floor, no lift and difficult stairs for elderly/disabled.
Review 98:We stayed in the adjacent apartment, very well equipped both in quality and extent. Ideal for family/group
Review 99:The hotel does not have an elevator so the stairs could be challenging for some particularly with heavy luggage. Parking is available (free after 1800 and until 0900 the next morning) but it is located about two blocks away in a municipal parking lot. Given that the hotel was built in the days prior to hotels having parking garages, this is probably about as good as it gets - at least there was a place to park.
Review 100:We chose this hotel based on it's location as we wanted to be close to the World War I battle sites. The bonus for this hotel was it's location close to the historic centre of Arras and next door to the tourist information office. The room provided a view of the Hotel de Ville, was adequate in size and the double bed was comfortable. The hotel offered a good French breakfast - more variety than what appears to be the standard bread, jam and coffee.
Review 101:WiFi could have been a bit faster but that's all!
Review 102:We stayed in the apartment which was lovely but we were only there one night so didn't really get full use out of it. We were very comfortable and it has a grast view of the square.
Review 103:We did not have any dislikes as we are experienced travellers.
Review 104:Firstly, the very friendly welcome on our arrival. Secondly the cleanliness and comfort of our room. Thirdly the excellent location being close to the Tourist Information centre and being located on the Square de Heros.
Review 105:I faced onto the square on the top floor. The square was noisy which the window blocked when shut, but it could do with a bit of extra ventilation.
Review 106:For what I needed it was excellent in all respects.
Review 107:the stairs were narrow and no elevator The parking is not close by Rooms on third floor are small
Review 108:the owner was welcoming and spoke English, staff were all friendly The breakfast was superb the Location in the Square in the centre
Review 109:Room was small. Perfectly functional but the proverbial cat was quite safe from being swung.
Review 110:Location was on one of the main squares so everything is close to hand. Being France the Saturday morning market was only just getting set up by 9.30 a.m so no disruption to sleep!
Review 111:Experience of real apartment in a character filled traditional building with kitchen facilities and flexible accommodation overlooking handsome city centre square.
Review 112:Very loved the friendly and helpful welcome and we especially liked the fridge having milk and juice, and the kitchen being stocked with tea, coffee and hot chocolate.
Review 113:We were on the third floor, aged 76/66 there were fire extinguishers on each fllor and smoke alarms but no Fire Escape. In the event of Fire the chances of getting down a narrow wooden stairs unscathed would be impossible. No excuse for black "grouting" around shower floor. Breakfast way too expensive, Salon du The around corner excellent for just over quarter of the price at Hotel Diamant.
Review 114:The Location.
Review 115:Slightly noisy in the square on Friday night (but didn't keep us awake!)
Review 116:Excellent location in the main square. We stayed in the apartment for 5, which is beautiful and very well equipped. We were provided with milk, orange juice, water and coffee - plus good free Wifi and 5x english TV channels. Perfect for an afternoon/evening stopover with tired kids.
Review 117:Bathroom was clean but could use some more thorough cleaning in certain areas (dusty and mouldy ventilation) I don't know about the other rooms but our room and bathroom were tiny so maybe not the best hotel to stay if you're really claustrophobic
Review 118:Good little basic hotel on a fantastic location, extremy friendly staff. Rooms are small so maybe less recommended if you're staying for more than 2 nights and/or bringing a lot of luggage.
Review 119:We stayed one night in the 6 pers. apartment whilst visiting the various sites on the Somme. The apartment was spacious, very clean and everything you needed was provided, including milk and orange juice! Coffee machine x2, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave..etc..etc. ideal location with lots of restaurants and bars on the square, free parking can be found overnight (until 9am) on the grand square just a short walk from the hotel. The owner speaks good English and was helpful. Fully recommended for a family of 4.
Review 120:The manager was very helpful and friendly. Situated on the beautiful main square right next to the cathedral. The room was compact but perfect for a one night stay.
Review 121:attentive manager, excellent facilities in the apartment, even milk, orange juice, bottled water and selection of coffees. very clean and modern. Great position overlooking main square.
Review 122:Location in square very noisy into early hours. Room small, dirty & dated. You could hear noise from from other residents in rooms, no air conditioning. very expensive for what it is. If it was on 3 in a bed I would only offer £40 for payment.
Review 123:Staff & breakfast were good.
Review 124:The apartment suite far exceeded our expectations. It was unbelievably well equipped with Nespresso machine, microwave, toaster, stove, dishwasher, and even a washing machine! Also, the location is the best in the city, looking out onto the Grand Palais and the main square of the town
Review 125:The location was perfect, overlooking a pretty square full of cafes, bistros, weekly market etc. and almost next door to the tourist information office. Friendly and efficient staff. Room a bit old fashioned but I liked that! Clean and comfortable and good value for money.
Review 126:The only think missing was an oven. Parking is free after 18.00 and before 09.00. Otherwise its parking in the underground car park at about Euro 10 per day
Review 127:Superb location on the main sqaure. in the 5 bed apartment Every facility needed. 1 Double & single in one bedroom. Pull out sofa double in sitting room. Washing machine, dishwasher, 2 ring stove, microwave, kettle, Espresso with coffee & tea capsules . Fridge contained milk, orange juice. cooking oil, washing powder.
Review 128:The room was very quaint and overlooked the Place des Heros and City Hall. The owner was very accommodating. The breakfast had a great selection of breads, cheeses, meats, fruit. There was no air conditioning but I wasn't expecting there to be. There was a fan I put in the window. I loved the location. I wanted to go to Vimy Ridge and Arras is the closed town. The owner of the hotel called a taxi for me - the cost was a little high but it was worth it. Vimy Ridge is unforgettable. Arras itself is worth the visit.
Review 129:The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was very central to all attractions and transport and restaurants. Each morning a lovely breakfast was also included. This is a great location to stay when visiting and paying respects to the fallen soldiers of The Western Front Battlefields. Highly recommended.
