Reviews for Château des Magnans
Review 1:Both the pool and the hot tub were colder than desired. But the kids enjoyed them.
Review 2:So many things to do in the area. We had no information going in and were pleasantly surprised. This is a great area for hiking, rafting, accrobranche, and views. The hotel is big, comfortable, and a good deal for the price. We were so happy to be here in the mountainous, less crowded part of the Mercantour instead of the part near Nice and the coast.
Review 3:The facilities were more like a ski resort with most rooms in modern buildings around the castle. The swimming pool is small for the number of rooms. We were delayed in arriving but found it difficult to contact the staff by phone although email works.
Review 4:Well equipped self catering apartment with beautiful surroundings. Walking distance from a small town with most facilities although the town lacks life. A great place from which to visit Europe's highest road and the Mercantour national park.
Review 5:Make sure you get an appartment (especially in building D) with a view on the valley (to the west) and not, as in our case, to the mountain site (no view )
Review 6:Very friendly manager who couldn't do enough for us, great parking and a very nice breakfast. Highly recommended I could have happily spent more time there
Review 7:Very nice apartment base for cycling in the Alps. Great staff and very good facilities at Chateau Mangan. If eating out go to Barcelonette (10 minutes drive) as restaurants are much better than in Jousters, which is very small
Review 8:Great room/suite. Well priced and with a wonderful view from the balcony. Town is a short walk away. Breakfast spread was good-continental style and varied.
Review 9:(stay in castle) The value for the money was good, however the room could use a freshing up.
Review 10:The location is fantastic with a beautiful view of the valley and walking distance to the closest town and nearby trails. Extremely nice and helpful staff.
Review 11:The unprepared room, the bath full of dirty linen and bins unemptied. Not really a chateau! Long trek to reception to discuss and no food available. No apology or recompense.
Review 12:Location and room facilities
Review 13:We couldn't find anything to eat in the evening. All restaurants were closed. Luck ally we found a shop to buy some groceries and kook our self a meal.
Review 14:Great location, The wellness was ok
Review 15:cant find anything negative
Review 16:Location and view helpfulness of staff access to other wonderful locations within easy reach of Chateau Price was very reasonable
Review 17:Door from garage to hallway almost never closed, which gives a smell from cars in the hallway (this was not the case in the flat itself!), bed in between two walls and a closet, which means one has to climb over the other to leave the bed (this was the case in our smaller flat, probably not in the bigger ones).
Review 18:Location (brilliant view!), friendly and helpfull staff, quiet place, good breakfast, interesting price (value for money!), good bathroom, sober but sufficient kitchen.
Review 19:Mix up with the room and extra flight of stairs to cart luggage up.
Review 20:The location, the pool, sauna, hot tub, steam room, quietness, free cappuccino at departure, the room and the staff friendliness and helpfulness.
Review 21:Pretty much everything about the apartment. It was spacious, the kitchen was surprisingly well equipped and the views were stunning. If there weren't so much to do and see in the Ubaye Valley, we would have been quite content and comfortable simply staying in the apartment all week.
Review 22:There is a nightclub on the first floor of the castle and it was hosting an adult show the night we stayed. The restarurant was serving ony one dish with no choice. There were a lot of flies in the room where the breakfast was served, I have asked to change the milk because of two flies in it, but the waitress just removed them fromand returned the carafe back to the table. Would not recommend it to anyone.
Review 23:Free parking, a pool
Review 24:The somewhat awkward reception opening times. I was lucky to bump in to a staff member when arriving around 13:00 but later I saw other guests having to wait because reception was closed a couple of hours.
Review 25:Very nice staff, good accommodation
Review 26:I didn't realize the reception closes at 7pm and arrived later than that. No arragnment for me to check-in my room. I saw a paper on the wall with 3 emergency numbers and called all 3, and the only person who picked up my phone didn't speak any English. After about 20 minutes I grabbed a person working for the hotel and he helped me check into a room (not the one I reserved), and the room has no towels at all. Quite a bad experience for a relatively big and high-end hotel.
Review 27:The next day the staff apologized, gave me a bonus free breakfast, and lowered the charge (because I got a different room than what I reserved).
Review 28:We were running late for first night and no information was provided for late check-in. Bookings.com was not able to get in touch with staff so opted for staying elsewhere for this night at additional cost even though arrangements had been made by staff to leave us keys at door. Suggest providing emergency contact number.
Review 29:Location in a picturesque Southern French Alps village was wonderful with amazing views. Apartment had comfortable bedding and of good size.
Review 30:A hudred years old real castle with everything you could wish (sauna, swimming pool, romantics, friendly, cheep, excellent wiev from your balkong etc)
Review 31:The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful and made my stay a real pleasure
Review 32:welcome
Review 33:Lovely place with very friendly staff. Breath taking views. I would definitely reCommend to any one.
Review 34:Kitchen could have some more pots and pans;
Review 35:Location, helpful staff, facilities, accommodation.
Review 36:Badetücher: not enough for one week.
Review 37:Breakfast value for Money: excellent.
Review 38:really good Location, very silent
Review 39:There were some people partying at night. Making loud noise.
Review 40:The apartment is big but a little outdated.
Review 41:le mobilier marron est triste
Review 42:The scary twisted road to Jausiers, up and down the mountain.
Review 43:Wonderful stay at Chateau Des Magnans apartments. Serene and peaceful surroundings.
Review 44:This can be the best stay of our south france road trip. The view from the window is just awesome! Staff are helpful, facilities are excellent.
Review 45:The bed
Review 46:The staff
Review 47:Amazing view from the room in the mountains of France. Very helpful stuff, great area to visit. big room with everything you need for cooking
Review 48:The bed was far to hard
Review 49:Great setting, fantastic views. Facilities excellent
Review 50:Nothing to dislike.
Review 51:Facilities, excellent location for our walking holiday.
Review 52:Our expectation was that we had booked our stay in the Chateau. This was not to be as the room allocation was in the alternative block nearby. Don't be taken in by the advertising provided by the Hotel and Booking.com.
Review 53:Excellent views but marred by the view of the hotel roof immediately in front of the balcony. This could have been an excellent stay but being 'conned' by the advertising wasn't necessary. An open and honest room allocation should have been agreed before any confirmation was entered into. The Chateau appeared to be empty.
Review 54:Perfect location, charming place, friendly staff and good equipment. We appretiated also the swimming pool with sauna and whirlpool which gave us opportunity to relax after demanding day in the mountains. Thanks a lot for perfect holiday :)))
Review 55:We wanted to cycle the Col de Bonette which is right on your doorstep when you stay at this hotel so ideal! Appartment was spacious and had all the necessary kitchen facilities. Wifi in the lounge area, use of a washing/drying machine possible and extremely helpful and welcoming staff. High recommendable.
Review 56:Lack of parking space. Not all the flats / rooms have a splendid view on the mountains.
Review 57:Comfortable hotel close to the mountains, river and nature. Swimming-pool, spa facilities and solarium. Despite the many guests during the period the hotel did not seem crowded and their was always a time during the day when there were not many people in the pool or jaccuzzi.
Review 58:parking shutter was broken (didnt open up completely) and left without warning on our last day.this damaged my roof box, but this is one off and I have been unlucky. Otherwise what would have been a memorable holiday
Review 59:awesome views from the castle;good size rooms;well equipped kitchens;
Review 60:The independently run restaurant in the basement of the Chateau was not quite as good as the rest of the hotel. Uninspiring menu, but the dessert buffet was nice.
Review 61:Almost everything with this hotel was commendable. Friendly staff, great rooms, good breakfast, beautiful views.
Review 62:Staff were incredibly helpful, way beyond their call of duty, making our holiday very pleasant. The facilities are very comfortable, clean and the pool/spa a wonderful area to relax in. Best of all is scenery.
Review 63:The check-in at 16-15pm Soft cushions missing from the seating on the sun deck - to be honest we didn’t ask so probably our own fault.
Review 64:The staff especially the manager. The room in the castle , sorry suite at the same rate as the new rooms/suite's The Fantastic view. The Restaurant buffet dinner offer. Breakfast. The location at the end of the Route de la Bonette (2800m)
Review 65:It could be cleaner. The furniture may be replaced.
Review 66:We like the location. As bikers you won't find a better location. All we needed in an appartment was ok.
Review 67:Everything was ok in this place, it is a no-stress location. The Managerwas really good and we really enjoied staying there. I cannot findparticular drawbacks to the Chateau de Magnans.
Review 68:For the price the breakfast could be better and with more alternatives.
Review 69:Big rooms. Maybe not with much charm but well functional (we didn't live at the castle). The pool was highly appreciated and well tempered (where here in summertime).
Review 70:Great sized rooms, very clean. Lots of services that are free; wifi, swimming pool, sauna, hamam. Buffet breakfast was nice with a goodchoice. Friendly staff. A fantastic location and very special to besleeping in or next to a beautiful castle.
Review 71:We arrived very late - our room key was left out for us. The room hadn't been clean, the sheets were used and the towels wet. However, the following morning, it transpired that this had been an error, and we were booked into a different room. The incorrect room number and key were left for us. The staff were very apologetic, and did not charge us for the room we occupied; we considered this a very reasonable outcome.
Review 72:Arrived very late. They kept the restaurant open for 6 people and waited until we had been to our rooms and changed etc. Very helpfull and would highly reccomend. Great location and views.
Review 73:Je recommande a 100%. Prix vraiment abordable. TRES GRAND appart, tres confortable et tres bien équipé. J'AI ADORÉ !!!!! Situation géographique dans les montagnes avec une vue incroyable. Exceptionnellement contente.
Review 74:In English - the pictures on their brochure look nothing like the chateau apartments in real life, they are tired out- peeling wallpaper, marks on the walls, stains on the seating, broken items, ,broken lights, mouse merde in kitchen, cheap carpets, In a word "Terrible". The management also tried to pass us off a smaller, cheaper apartment, when we threatened to leave the correct apartment suddenly was magically available- the building outside is majestic, the rest is awful...............
Review 75:The beds are like planks of wood! Impossible to sleep on them. Asked for an extra duvet on second day which we used as padding, but even with this they remained the most uncomfortable beds I've ever had. Room smelled very badly on arrival & oven was dirty, but opening the veranda doors soon cleared the smell problem. No restaurant on site.
Review 76:A very nice hotel, with excellent 2 bed apartments & facilities. Super staff who were very attentive, and a very nice atmoshphere. Good pool. Free Internet excellent. Well located for ski resorts. Parking easy
Review 77:It's a wonderful location nestled at the foot of the mountains and the village and surrounding area in the Ubaye valley are delightful. The hotel staff are fantastic, the apartment was comfortable and the swimming pool was a welcome addition.
Review 78:Extremely uncomfortable rock hard beds
Review 79:The view
Review 80:The gentleman in the office could not have been more helpful or polite even though our French was not good.
Review 81:The hotel staff was really kind. Location of hotel is perfect.
Review 82:no lift. poor value breakfast and poor service at breakfast.
Review 83:v clean, spacious. good welcome. bit basic but serviceable.

Review 86:staff, location, amenities, breakfast
Review 87:never anybody in the bar to serve you A drink or sell you A snack
Review 88:location and quietness swimming pool
Review 89:lack of a lift: this may be a problem if your room is on the fourth floor...
Review 90:nice staff, abundant breakfast, quiet place
