Reviews for Hôtel Metropole
Review 1:The hotel is in a convenient position in the centre of town. It also has a secure garage for our car. We have visited many times and always had a very pleasant stay.
Review 2:Nothing really, but as it is in the centre of a sea port/large town you have to expect external noise - sea gulls, dogs barking etc. Beware the car park is not suitable for 4x4 vehicles - entrance too low - but we managed to park directly outside the hotel although we had to move it early next morning as it is in a pedestrianised area.
Review 3:Hotel was very centrally located, clean and bright entrance, new carpets, well presented. Our standard double room was adequate, and although the bathroom was on the small side it had an excellent shower
Review 4:Boulogne sur mer was not the romantic city we were hoping for, the hotel was right in the middle of it. The room was small as was the double bed. Don't forget: you Pay 11€ extra for the private-parking, that makes the all.in price rather high for one night.
Review 5:Friendlyness of the staff
Review 6:Wifi did not work unless you were 2 mts from reception and even then was extremely slow. Room and bathroom were very small and the door separating them didn't fit properly. The fridge was locked (?) and the key supplied did not fit it. There was no free parking anywhere nearby. The breakfast room was not big enough for all the guests, the food was expensive considering there was only a cold buffet.
Review 7:Receptionist was friendly and helpful.
Review 8:Pillows were very old lumpy and in desperate need of replacing. The evening receptionist was very unhelpful and more interested in talking to her friend on the phone. The room smelled of smoke despite Asking for a no smoking room. The area is very noisy, lots of drunken people outside in the early hours therefore windows had to be kept closed resulting in a very hot room. Couldn't use aircon because that made the smell of smoke worse.
Review 9:Hotel had plenty of character and the receptionist who greeted us was extremely helpful
Review 10:Limited parking, although near by underground car park that was very secure and only €6.50 for the night.
Review 11:Good location, Friendly staff, Nice rooms, Nice breakfast.
Review 12:Seagulls shrieking all night through - obviously not the hotel's fault. You may even like it if you are a fan of seagulls...
Review 13:Very nice welcome, very helpful staff, very close to the old town, in a pedestrian street
Review 14:Though garage welcome in an area with restricted on-street parking, the hotel garage is difficult to find in one-way system. Could a map be included in email directions?
Review 15:Good location and value for money, friendly staff, excellent bathroom. Lift
Review 16:Didn't find anything to dislike, except perhaps the wifi which was a little slow at times and not as easy to access as at other hotels we have used.
Review 17:Staff were all really nice and breakfast was very good with very fresh bread and croissants, plus good quality cooked meats, cheese and coffee.
Review 18:we had a room on the "quiet" side (the back). The seagulls however are very noisy quite early in the morning. They are wonderful to see fly by, but quiet a racket at 4:30; needed to close the windows; The free WIFI was very poor
Review 19:Good location, comfortable beds, friendly staff, nice breakfast (you need to pay for that though) ;
Review 20:Some staff non English speakers and not very helpful. Small lift which seems to take ages and broke down; we were at 4th floor! Requested for a quiet room but seaguals were so noisy all night.
Review 21:Walking distance to everywhere.
Review 22:Breakfast was overly expensive for what it consisted of. Really excessive charge for this.
Review 23:Good location, nicely refurbished. Very friendly helpful staff
Review 24:The room was extremely small, the bed uncomfortable and we could hear when someone flushed their toilet or took a shower in another room.
Review 25:Very friendly welcome.
Review 26:Internet a bit patchy but it wasn't too important to us as we didn't spend a lot of time there.
Review 27:Located in the shopping precinct. Basic but clean, good size bathroom, and the garage was nearby. Lift was amusingly small!
Review 28:Luckily found good parking spot behind theatre quite close..
Review 29:Easy location to restaurants & shops .. Still a bit of a hike up the hill to the old town..
Review 30:Noise of seafulls but no one can help that in a seaside town.
Review 31:Very honest staff. My daughter lost her purse and we were not sure where she lost it. Hotel staff had found it in our room and handed it in at reception. Hotel phoned us to say they had it. I was very happy. The hotel staff were very friendly.
Review 32:A little tired round the edges, but clean.
Review 33:Excellent location on main shopping street, friendly staff, good sized room, excellent shower, free wifi, sunny room with large windows, good size room. We parked on a street nearby because sundays were free and we arrived early Saturday evening so only paid a small amount until 7pm (worth checking before spending €11 on multi story car park).
Review 34:One of the receptionists was very unfriendly when we asked about a possibility for storing laptops and tablets in a safe, since the one present in the room is exceptionally tiny. There was no cattle in the room. The blanket was very inconvenient (no duvet cover, only wool blanket with plain loose sheets). The bathroom was quite clean but you shouldn't look too close. The bathtub is definitely made for one person only! One better has to bring their own shower supply, the ones there are very limited...
Review 35:The location was very central and in the middle of a shopping street. Two of the three receptionists present were very friendly. The walking distance to the seaside is very convenient. (5 minutes to the harbour, where you can also park for free and 10-15 minutes to the beach)
Review 36:Shower was raised and had a high step to get in and out of it. The lack of any but the very basic instructions on the back of the door. No kettle and a very full fridge leaving little room for any of our shopping that needed to be kept chilled.
Review 37:The location and the comfy beds. Friendly and helpful staff. Nearby car park. Located in the shopping area, near to the town square and many restaurants. A short walk to the port area and post office.
Review 38:Breakfast was pricey. Despite advising reception that safe was locked, no action taken to rectify.
Review 39:Quiet, no traffic. Room was well furnished and comfortable.
Review 40:Secure parking close by and easy to find. In the town centre, good for shops and restaurants. Very quiet. 20 mins from the Channel Tunnel and Ferry's
Review 41:There was no bar, nor tea and coffee making facilities in the room. The car parking was secure, but quite a distance from the hotel, especially if you had heavy cases.
Review 42:Friendly staff and central location.
Review 43:We had no dislikes
Review 44:Very close to Theatre Monsigny. Within walking distance of the Saturday Market and great choice of restaurants. Situated in the pedestrian shopping area. Good hotel in a great spot.
Review 45:There was nothing that I did not like!
Review 46:We checked in very late but still got a good reception, The staff were all very helpful throughout our stay. This is a hidden gem for anyone visiting Boulogne-sur-Mer.
Review 47:We found the bed rather narrow (4' 6" wide?) compared to what we are used to. Breakfast was rather poor value (1 plain croissant plus a piece of baguette per person), with only 2 cereals (cornflakes and sugar puffs!) available. A bedside table was only provided at one side of the bed.
Review 48:Hotel Metropole is very centrally located and convenient for shopping in the traffic-free zone, as well as a dozen or more restaurants within a 5-minute walk, and the same again (or more) in the Old Town (Vielle Ville), about 15 minutes walk away. The enclosed secure parking was easy to find from the Calais road (A16) with some helpful assistance from the hotel reception (in very good English) by email before we travelled. The room was quite large with ample storage space for luggage etc. I had requested and we got a quiet room overlooking the enclosed garden. A large and well-equipped bath/shower room/toilet was provided with the ("Comfort") room. The free wifi worked OK, after a slightly complicated registration/log-in process. Access speed varied between different sides of the room, so it was necessary to find a "sweet spot", in the 3rd-floor location.
Review 49:Boulogne is finished. half the shops are closed down and even the famous fish restaurant. streets have dirty pavements. Will try Wimereux next as it looked to be flourishing, otherwise Le Touquet.
Review 50:hotel
Review 51:Not the fault of the hotel, but at certain hours the road to the hotel becomes blocked by pop-up barriers denying immediate access by car to the hotel entrance without previous permission.
Review 52:Superb information on how to arrive and where to park. The hotel is in easy walking distance of the port and the old town.
Review 53:Trying to find the car park. Road works and one way streets made it difficult to get to the car park. Without the hotel staff help it would have been impossible.Departure was very straightforward.
Review 54:Perfect location for our needs.
Review 55:Old fashioned, echoing lift and stairs. Brave attempt to fit modern facilities in the room though the sliding bathroom door was too narrow and meandered in the opening. The private hotel garage is a must so factor the 11 euros daily fee in.
Review 56:Pleasant staff, welcoming. Central position if you are fit.
Review 57:the lift was very small although it was quite amusing!
Review 58:very helpful staff. lovely breakfast. good bedroom that was quiet. lovely to have a small garden at the rear of the hotel right in the middle of the town. also excellent service to have a secure garage available and well worth the 11 euro charge.
Review 59:Nothing really, it was entirely what I expected/hoped for in a small town hotel. The wifi isn't especially good but I only used it once to settle an argument about a film!
Review 60:The staff were very friendly and helpful and were very patient when I stumbled through sentences in French! The location was very good with a short walk to everything in Boulogne. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was good and filling with great coffee. I was very impressed with the egg boiler!
Review 61:Everything fine
Review 62:Extremely good position in centre of town close to all facilities. 3 minute walk from harbour and in middle of main shopping area. Air conditioning in room. Clean and comfortable. Staff all very friendly and extremely helpful.
Review 63:Toilet not cleaned properly. Small room. Dusty. Street is very commercial. Not too clean..
Review 64:Top breakfast. Staff changed room for us after we complained. When you find the old part of town it's bearable. Even found a vegetarian menu. On the left, just up from the morrocan garden square.
Review 65:The breakfast room itself. Not as competitively priced as others I've stayed in - but reasonable, nevertheless.
Review 66:Helpful staff. An available garage - if at a short distance (100m). Very comfortable bed.
Review 67:Trying to find it by car
Review 68:Location in centre of the town Clean, comfortable, quiet room (30) Courteous helpful reception staff Excellent breakfast (but €11)
Review 69:Shower was rather small and I banged my head twice on the taps. Would have liked an armchair.
Review 70:Good, clean, comfortable centrally located hotel, with pleasant and helpful staff.
Review 71:Difficult to access until shops closed and street opened to traffic. It would be helpful if this was made clear on website then clients would know at what time to arrive and be able to park.
Review 72:It was great being in town centre close to restaurants and shops although these were closed when we arrived and left. I would stay again now that I know about the access and parking.
Review 73:A small point. - It would have been helpful to know before arrival that at certain times of the day there is no vehicular access to the hotel. However, once I had parked elsewhere and walked to the hotel I was given clear directions to the hotel's secure garage nearby, so all was well in the end.
Review 74:A very nice small hotel. The bedrooms were bright and airy and well decorated and the beds were very comfortable. All staff were attentive and helpful.I would certainly stay there again and recommend it to others.
Review 75:would have liked another pillow for the bed, but everything else was fine
Review 76:pleasant welcoming staff, clean spacious quiet room, good sized bathroom ( so many are very small!), very good price deal, easy to park nearby, centrally located to reach other places
Review 77:access by car difficult due to location in a pedestrianised road. Only accessible during certain times of day. No parking facilities. Garaging in neighbouring street approx 400 yards away.
Review 78:central location reasonably priced english speaking and helpful staff good continental breakfast lift to all floors clean bedroom with reasonable facilities 3 star quality
Review 79:Some of the staff thought it a race to be the fastest, and had little time to smile, but others were very charming.
Review 80:Location, comfortable and clean room with good bathroom. No need to use a/c, but it was available. All staff spoke English.
Review 81:could have done with a long mirror us girls like to know how we look from the waist down, maybe a kettle for us that like tea in the morning, also only 2 english chanels on t.v, i thought sky was on offer but when i asked it was not, main thing i disliked was the thinness of the walls, noisy group of men woke us middle of the night sounded like a party. i complained next day it was resolved though.
Review 82:bathroom was huge, with double sink, large mirror, great views, i loved theposition of the hotel, short walk to beach, shops all around, everything we wanted on our door step.
Review 83:Nothing.
Review 84:Staff were very helpful by giving me tips on good restaurants and provided a map as the tourist office was closed when I arrived. My room was perfectly adequate, clean and comfortable en-suite with TV and amazing views from my top floor balcony. As a solo female traveller it was very quiet and safe... The location could not have been better, in comparison to some of the other hotels which were too close to the sea front and busy traffic. I would definitely stay at Hotel Metropole again... Merci pour tout!
