Reviews for Hôtel balladins Arras

Review 1:Room they gave to me initially wasn't clean or made up, but I asked if there had been a mistake and they moved me immediately. Everything else was great.

Review 2:We had very heavy rain during the night, when we woke the floor was soaking wet. It wasn't the Velux window which had leaked (luckily as my daughter's bed was under it), we think it must be a roof/guttering problem.

Review 3:Very easy to find and close to our route. Very good value, very comfortable bed.

Review 4:Mould in shower - pubic hair in bed ( or maybe the cleaning lady had an Afro ) Coffee at breakfast was foul, also the orange juice - location is a walk to nothing but a late night food van..

Review 5:Price of course - Wifi and croissants at breakfast was about it..

Review 6:A lift would have been useful and the toilet pan needed a thorough clean.

Review 7:The breakfast was adequate, with choice of cereals ,ham ,cheeses ,rolls , croissants, jams, drinks hot and cold.Staff were friendly and helpful. Parking was adjoining the hotel. They changed the towels every day.

Review 8:The hotel looks unkempt upon arrival...very unwelcoming aspect...looks seedy, but with some effort would appear so much better. Our hearts did sink as we arrived. The access from the main road made us regret our choice. Also, the hotel needs up-dating as it looks v.dated & uncared for.

Review 9:Receptionist upon arrival was friendly & attentive. Bed was comfortable & water-pressure was good in the shower.

Review 10:The room smelled damp and needed to be aired. The restaurant in the hotel was closed and the nearest restaurant was fully booked so had to resort to a fast food outlet and eat in my room. The area outside the hotel was untidy (they need a gardener). The bed was very narrow, low and not very comfortable.

Review 11:The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.

Review 12:Hideous stain on bed cover really put me off although the rest of the room seemed to be clean enough. The streaky pattern of the shower made it look filthy but I think it was actually clean. Decor needed sprucing up. Pretty soulless.

Review 13:Plenty of parking but not secure. Although breakfast was stated to be at 8 am (on Saturday) we turned up at around 8.45 and there was plenty left with reasonable choice and was of a better quality than we expected.

Review 14:The location was very easy to find. The staff where very helpful and friendly. The hotel is a little old and does need some upkeep on out side but for the price it was great.

Review 15:Teeny flat pillows, not enough towels - basic but still fantastic for price. Just make sure you take extra pillows/towels

Review 16:Great value for money for family of 5 all in one room for overnight stopover

Review 17:Dirty stained walls, taps trickled water, shower tray didn't drain. Breakfast drinks dispenser was out of order just what you don't want at breakfast. Asked for hot water for tea but all we got was a small pot of tepid water. As the 4/9/15 was our wedding anniversary and the 6/9/15 was my wife's birthday I am sure you can understand why I will think twice before trusting your website to find me a hotel

Review 18:Location was ok. Beds were comfortable

Review 19:Shower tray filled up quickly. Cigarette burns on bed spread and carpet. Smelled damp on our first visit (better a week later!). Rather outdated. Pillows uncomfortable.

Review 20:The breakfast was good.

Review 21:Hotel is in dire need of refurbishment - very old decor. Also no restaurant at the weekend, and no vending facilities at all! Management/owners are letting staff down and missing an opportunity.

Review 22:Helpful friendly staff & good breakfast. Good location for Channel crossing

Review 23:Don't think my sheet on the bed had been changed, crinkled and hairs in it!! Lucky took my own pillow lumpy and dirty. Shower hadn't been cleaned old soap still on there and shower trey dirty.

Review 24:Cheap and convenient

Review 25:very basic but reasonable value for money

Review 26:it's about 1.5-2km from the centre where most of the restaurants are. There was only a fish restaurant nearby which was closed for August. But the walk into the centre was ok, direct and easy and good eating opportunities there.

Review 27:I do not like being misled This hotel clearly be advertises that it as aon site restaurant so I booked it It should tell you that it's onlymon to friBUT it is closed weekends

Review 28:Ok for a overnight stay thou I would not have booked it had I known itsResturant is closed at the weekends

Review 29:There was a large group of cyclists who were very noisy and although didn't take hotel breakfast, did take over the dining room. The staff had to take my order and fetch my breakfast, rather than put out the buffet. The staff were very apologetic but it meant a quite unrelated start to the day, through no fault of the staff.

Review 30:Very convenient as a transi stop.

Review 31:Carpets were filthy and stained, the walls were dirty and dusty, and the bathroom had mild in it.

Review 32:Not much. The only thing we appreciated was the receptionist who tried to find us another room after the shower drain backed up.

Review 33:Could do with a face lift and carpets etc need cleaning

Review 34:Excellent value for money. Friendly staff. Clean comfy bed. Good shower and excellent breakfast. Short cab ride to town centre

Review 35:I arrived distressed having mislaid my husbund (we were in two cars and I had no cash and phone dead) and asked for a drink of water and was shown the tariff. Total lack of empathy. Room smelt musty and vestiges of smoke. No evening meal as advertised and were charged 91 euros (as agreed when booking) whereas the board stated 73 euros for two. Did not notice this till later when looking at bill. Hd found later fortunately!

Review 36:Not a lot!

Review 37:Hotel decor tired. Located far end of town. Restaurant not open at weekend

Review 38:Very reasonable price. Room fair size. Plenty of parking. Good buffet breakfast

Review 39:Great value, clean, food good honest fare at very reasonable price The young lady on reception and serving in the restaurant looked after us very well

Review 40:Only the usual problem we seem to encounter when eating out in France of massacred vegetables, in this case some form of bean, with the evening meal.

Review 41:We were met by a friendly, efficient manageress who also waited on our table in the restaurent managing to juggle both jobs and keeping everyone happy. Good television selection of channels Comfortable Bed

Review 42:Cleanliness caused by old or worn out fittings. The plastic wash basin was cracked around the drain plug carpet was stained decor tatty.

Review 43:Staff worked hard breakfast was good. wifi was fast room good size

Review 44:Dirty, what staff? didn't hang around for breakfast. What you see on trhe outside is exactly on the inside - unkept. It has so much potential as well

Review 45:The location, if you are ok with just using it for a bed at night and want good location, this is the place. No thrills is an understatement

Review 46:It just seemed as if the staff had given up although we only ever saw the receptionist. Does anyone else work there ? Decent looking hotel at first glance but grass and weeds taking over outside. Bar and restaurant not open during our weekend stay despite advertising availability. Cracked/ancient sink. Bathroom disgusting. How hard would it be to fix a hook in the bathroom to hang your towel.? Or in the shower to accommodate the shower hose.? Dreadful stench of drains in bathroom . Breakfast price more than quoted. Check your bill . Stay anywhere else. I'm really not hard to please but never stayed in a "Balladins Hotel" before, probably will never again.

Review 47:Decent ( but overpriced) breakfast. Plenty of parking. A 30 minute walk into the centre of Arras

Review 48:Came to visit a war cemetery. A local map would have been helpful. Other uk/ Canadian visitors but receptionist couldn't speak any English.

Review 49:Big family room. Good breakfast. Quiet. Handy for motorway.

Review 50:Nothing

Review 51:Had everything necessary for an overnight to break up a long journey, comfortable, clean, good shower, good breakfast and wi-fi too. Who could ask for anything more?

Review 52:Shower .... Very little flow as a blocked shower head.

Review 53:Convenient for autoroute as heading from SW France to the tunnel Dinner good value Arrogant Frog wine excellent

Review 54:The room smell bad a little bit, not because it wasn't clean but there was carpet everywhere and it smell 'old'

Review 55:Very close to the motorway. Staff very kind.

Review 56:Bed comfortable. Room very clean. Although cubicle was small, shower was very efficient and no water leaked onto bathroom floor. Within walking distance of Arras town centre.

Review 57:Bathrooms needed decorating. Insufficient towels and poor quality. Unable to pay by credit card as the terminal did not work.

Review 58:Restaurant excellent. Nearness to WW1 sites good.

Review 59:Somewhat under cared for. Certainly needed a re-paint to lift the appearance. Staff variable. The girl in the evening was excellent and attentative. The morning girl more interested in the computer and needed to ask for everythIng.

Review 60:Comfortable bed full en-suite. Plenty of parking.

Review 61:Room wasn't ready when we arrived. No lift (3 stories). The lighting timer went off before my dad, (85) reached the next landing.

Review 62:Room comfy, clean and tidy throughout.

Review 63:Quite a way out of town but helped by a good bus service.

Review 64:It was a comfortable friendly hotel; staff were helpful and the food in thee restaurant was good.

Review 65:The hotels location is a bit out of the main town, so it feels a bit cut off if you wanted to explore the town.

Review 66:We arrived with our bikes in boxes off the airplane and the concierge showed us a back room were we could reassemble and store them. That was perfect for us.

Review 67:Nice quiet location and value for money. Staff were mostly friendly.

Review 68:Very poor standard of accommodation. Located between a caravan park and a waste disposal site. Hostel type building. Nothing pleasant about it. Staff unfriendly. We would have changed hotel if it was possible. It does not deserve to be on booking.com

Review 69:Close to the university

Review 70:The room looked nothing like the picture. Next to no wifi reception. Stained mattresses. The only window in the room was a skylight. Light bulbs didn't work. Staff not particularly helpful or friendly. Dingy bathroom. Poor value for money.

Review 71:The beds were reasonably comfortable.

Review 72:On arrival at 4.30 pm room allocated had not been cleaned, still had wet towels in bathroom, bin not emptied - had to wait till cleaned. Hotel very noisy - other guests arrived after midnight, talked till after 1.00 and started again just after 6.00. Security light at main door shone into bedroom intermittently. Shower head cracked. Only one staff member on duty in the morning, trying to oversee breakfast buffet and clients checking out, too much for one person.

Review 73:Member of staff on Reception doing his best against the odds.

Review 74:There appeared to be a problem with the drains, but the smell cleared by morning. The close proximity to a travellers site was a little disconcerting, but proved to be no problem. The grounds needed a lot of TLC and was somewhat overgrown,

Review 75:Room clean, bed xomfortable and good value.

Review 76:5 could have fitted into a room but this option not available online. Second room and all bedspreads were not clean enough. Location was awful

Review 77:very good breakfast & good value and some staff quite knowledgable and friendly

Review 78:Impossible to find. Staff at Booking.com didn't know where it was and their phone was not local. Hotel did not answer their phone at 8.45 and when we finally got a local to direct us it was 9.05. The girl had already locked up and we only just caught her...she rushed to the office, gave us a key card and then left without waiting to see if everything was in order. If we hadn't prepaid I would have gone somewhere else. Television didn't work (even for the French channels).

Review 79:It was cheap.

Review 80:We were expecting something basic & small for this price, but the room had not been cleaned. There were nail clippings, dirt and hair on the carpet, coffee spilt down the wall and a dirty sink and surrounding surface. The king-size bed had a bottom sheet which was far too small to tuck under the mattress, and therefore wrinkled up over night, leaving me lying on an unprotected mattress - not pleasant.

Review 81:Bit fair from town but not an issue to us

Review 82:We liked the hotel but we was only staying as a stop over. The staff was more than helpful to find a safe place for me to leave my trailer during the day so we could go out sight seeing

Review 83:It was a bit tired and grim looking and not spotlessly clean (some people might mind this, we were cool with it). We did have a laugh at the two stars on the hotel sign that someone had taped over :)

Review 84:It was an absolute dream after 2 weeks camping in the rain; warm, dry and comfortable. The staff also very kindly let us store a bike past the 12pm check out time while we did a bit of sightseeing.

Review 85:staff very unhelpful we arrived at 21.00 . to find hotel reception closed restaurant closed bar closed ,after a long drive we had to take car to nearest town arras to eat as nothing in walking distance very very unhappy,

Review 86:comfortable bed .

Review 87:Restaurant was closed but it was easy to drive into the centre of Arras, where I had a fantastic meal at Le Bateau du Ch'ti (shame about the moaning English couple near me who seemed to hold the young waiters responsible for their inability to understand the French menu).

Review 88:Very easy to find with good parking. Spacious room and bathroom. I appreciated being able to bring my dog.

Review 89:Reception shuts at 9pm, and the décor is all a bit tired and shabby. Just a simple tidy up of litter in the car park and some simple internal redecoration would improve the physical appearance very quickly. Somewhere to stay on a boys battlefield tour, but not nice enough to take my wife.

Review 90:Comfortable bed and quiet as it is set back from road.

Review 91:The room was on the top floor, the attic, really, and had only one roof window. The window was closed when we arrived and the room was stifling and musty smelling. No air conditioning. There was no staff in the hotel between 9pm and 7am. Only one towel for 3 of us, and of course, we discovered this after 9pm. One of our group chose to sleep in the car due to the musty smell, and he's generally not sensitive to things like this. I could go on, but I'm sure you get the picture.

Review 92:We liked the location, which is not too far from Vimy Ridge and other battlefield sites. The hotel is located on a quiet street, keeping noise to a minimum.

Review 93:Family room good size but smelt of smoke. Restaurant not open at weekend for dinner. Breakfast ok but over priced. A bit grubby. No bath just a shower and no where to hang the shower head so you had to hold and wash not easy for adults and certainly not children!!

Review 94:Ideal for battlefield visit, easy to find off ring road, very cheap for a one night stay.

Review 95:Hotel had a 'tired' feel. Looked worn, gave impression not that clean. No restaurant available as was weekend so had to go elsewhere after a long drive. Shower worn and looked dirty. Opted to miss breakfast as expensive for what was on offer

Review 96:Bed comfortable

Review 97:I emailed the hotel twice and never received a response. I then rang the hotel and the person who answered could not speak english and didn't or couldn't find anyone who could. I rang again on the eve of our trip and luckily found someone who could speak english.

Review 98:Could have done with an Iron in the room. Perhaps coffee making facility, wouldn't have minded paying for it

Review 99:The staff on duty when we arrived at 9.15 spoke good English and we had a nice cup of tea before going to bed. Comfy bed, good shower, good value.

Review 100:To be hyper critical there was a noisy caravan site nearby, but that was not the fault of the hotel.

Review 101:The receptionist in the hotel was outstanding and the food was far better than I would expect for the money. Very helpful and this was a refreshing change from experiences in larger hotels. I was well looked after fr arrival to departure. I was booked a taxi, my bike was secured and treated like a valued customer.

Review 102:Bin not emptied at front of Hotel. overflowing with rubbish and dog poo bags!. Not a good advertisement when entering a Hotel. First two rooms shown, on ground floor, had not been cleaned from the staying guests the night before. Shower head not attached to wall. Bedspread needs to be updated. Plug in corridor hanging off of wall. Fire escape door was open for air flow . We were OK with this as it circulated the air through the Hotel however not good if you have venturesome young children. Plug socket in corridor hanging off of wall. Again, we know not to fiddle but little children do not.

Review 103:Two rooms on top floor. bedroom was clean. Sheets and pillow cases were also clean. Room clean. My husband and I had a good nights sleep here. Good hot shower. Didn't have any drinks hear but had our own travel kettle with us. Plenty of sockets in room.About 10 minutes out of town by car. Overall a good nights stay.

Review 104:The Hotel had flies everywhere It was very very basic. It was shabby. I had to pay a city tax upon check-out which I wasn't warned about.

Review 105:It was a fair price for what I needed, which was a bed to break up the driving between Calais and Dijon during the night. They were very helpful when i emailed ahead and said i'd be arriving around 2am. the automated check-in machine worked very well and was easy to use.

Review 106:Slow wifi - unusable, Musky/smelly room, Dated/old fixtures and fittings. Barking dog in room next door, No food, Unhelpful staff, Very small TV mounted very high on wall making viewing difficult. I left after a few hours and went elsewhere.

Review 107:We hadn't realised that the restaurant was not open Friday nights but there was a great place just a couple of minutes away

Review 108:The hotel was basic but good value. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.

Review 109:Having to return to the hotel at night was kinda of an adventure since it's right at the end of the town. Even though this isn't the hotels' fault. also a bit overpriced...

Review 110:Great wifi connection, cool staff, the room was ok but a bit small

Review 111:No AC and the windows didn't have a screen, so you couldn't open the windows at night because all the moths would come in. No fridge and the hotel staff/restaurant didn't have any ice. Place is dated, in need of a drastic makeover.

Review 112:The staff were very helpful, the rooms were clean and spacious, WIFI was good and it was cheap(er) ... Two star, you get what you pay for type thing.

Review 113:it smells not a good ventilation

Review 114:near by the city

Review 115:the bathroom . shower moldy and broken shower. Dirty carpet

Review 116:the breakfast

Review 117:Basic stopover, good value

Review 118:No lights in the toilet and used our mobile lights in the night.

Review 119:Very noisy plumbing.

Review 120:we like the breakfast

Review 121:Friendly staff and good breakfast

Review 122:Very basic

Review 123:The price

Review 124:friendly staff, easy to find, lovely quiet room, good food!

Review 125:The room is perfect

Review 126:Location , had to drive everywhere.

Review 127:Bit old and worn but value for money

Review 128:If the bathroom can have more hooks or towel rail tha would be better.

Review 129:The room was badly lit, smelt of damp and the bathroom was dirty.

Review 130:The staff were friendly

Review 131:Hotel is showing its age, but good for a stopover. Free parking is a plus. Minimalist breakfast.

Review 132:Fairly basic

Review 133:Convenience and price
