Reviews for Hostellerie Du Royal Lieu

Review 1:Courtyard very inviting, too cold to enjoy on our visit. Loose toilet seat bathroom & toilet in desperate need of an update, bed tiny, very small room.

Review 2:The breakfast was poor - not much choice and no service at all. You even had to help yourself to coffee from a machine. We had much better from cheaper places.

Review 3:Nice big room, in the shade which was welcome as it was a very hot sunny day BUT the room was very dark and the lighting poor. The parking is excellent and very secure. The location is quiet and the garden very pleasant but it is a long walk into town (40 minutes). Dinner was excellent but pricey. Staff were very helpful generally but no one to be seen at breakfast.

Review 4:Hotel has a good local reputation for dining but facilities are not always available. No in-room drinks facilities No air conditioning

Review 5:Secure parking Spacious bedroom and good bathroom

Review 6:Breakfast is very poor and you have to ask for everything, even for coffee. There have been e.g. four slices of ham for six people etc., etc. Staff at breakfast is not very helpfull.

Review 7:Nice and quiet place in park with huge trees. Restaurant is good.

Review 8:The greeting, meal, all the staff, and the quiet setting. The meal was superb and we much enjoyed the quiet drink in the garden that preceded it. We would rate the reception, the chef, and the staff that attended us at our meal as 5 Star.

Review 9:Terrible smell in room- had to leave french windows open to clear. On ground floor with no other windows- so at night, with windows open- slept very poorly as insecure...

Review 10:pretty grounds

Review 11:Shortage of cereals and fruit at breakfast one morning due to no delivery on bank holiday.

Review 12:Pretty much everything, hard to fault it, the gardens were tasteful and restful, smiling and helpful staff.

Review 13:No drinks facilities in room. But staff helped to provide. Poor quality of food on offer on Monday morning. Black tea bags were exhausted after 3 days and apparently no way of getting more supplies. ( I purchased some from the local Intermache)

Review 14:Hospitality, location, room cleanliness and comfort. Safe parking

Review 15:Dirty room, the toilet did not flush, the safe was jammed. Gates to the car park were jammed open. The tv did not work. The young man at reception was rude and dismissive and unwilling to rectify any of the above, in one evening he destroyed the good will and loyal custom of decades.

Review 16:The gardens are lovely and until our last visit we have been staying regularly at this hotel for the last 30 years. We have never had cause for complaint until now.

Review 17:The positioning of the shower (room 1). A larger glass partition and the shower facing "down the bath" would give more room especially for older travelers Food very good but only ate in hotel 2 out of 3 nights because not enough variety from day to day.

Review 18:MOST THINGS

Review 19:No kettle for drinks. Although the dinner was good it was too expensive for a Hostellerie. No a/c which made it too humid. Window open invitation for mosquitoes unfortunately.

Review 20:Room overlooked lovely peaceful garden. Restaurant in lovely setting. Free parking and free wifi.

Review 21:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good food. Pleasant garden. Secure off road parking

Review 22:situation staff restaurant

Review 23:No negative comment.

Review 24:The very good atmosphere

Review 25:Excellent food

Review 26:We loved the welcoming staff, lovely ambience, tasty restaurant, pretty garden, cozy bar, free enclosed parking, plus the comfy clean room!

Review 27:Small, dark room Broken toilet fittings

Review 28:Secure parking Good breakfast Helpful, friendly staff

Review 29:room - dark bathroom - old fashioned

Review 30:garden breakfast

Review 31:it was a little out of town however this was offset by a briilant free bus service.

Review 32:everything

Review 33:Spartan room

Review 34:Dinner

Review 35:A nice park nearby, windows that open onto a quiet courtyard. Rooms had a very nice calm feel to them. Clean. Helpful staff

Review 36:Not a lot of choice for breakfast and a little be far out of the town to walk there and back in an evening, 4kms

Review 37:Lovely staff, comfortable bed and really nice room and parking was excellent.

Review 38:Not being able to stay longer.

Review 39:The ambiance of an old hotel but with modern conveniences. An excellent restaurant and cuisine. A beautiful garden to walk in, and safe and secur parking. We have stayed here before and Will continue to do so on our journey between France and Holland.

Review 40:Small cramped room that was gloomy due to the closeness of mature trees. No shower cabinet but a shower head mounted onto a glass partition that was not easy to use and resulted in water on the floor. Some guests may find the location unappealing as it is nowhere near any attractions, town centre or alternative restaurants.

Review 41:Very good reception on arrival with helpful staff. Secure enclosed parking at the rear (push button entry code) and basement parking offered for motorcycles, a big plus for riders. A lovely restaurant offering excellent food although rather expensive but the service was attentive. Good service in the bar after a day's riding. Hotel set in parkland. On the edge of town so quiet with a good night's rest assured.

Review 42:The irregularity of the public transport to Compiegne, but is nothing to do with the Hostellerie.

Review 43:The garden with a very old and big trees.Cuisine at level "Cordon bleu".The kidness of the staff especialy mr.Philipe.The security of the garage place .

Review 44:Room was small and for business not ideal to work from, wifi wasobtainable but no desk or table in the room.

Review 45:Claasic French style with.enclosed garden and good parking. Room wassmall and quite dark but adequate for a short stay. The conservatoryrestaurant was very good and the food choice and quality was very goodas was the service. Also good access to the motorway for Paris.

Review 46:Overly formal restaurant. No need to have wine glass filled up by staff these days.

Review 47:Traditional French small town hotels don't come much better than this. Garden area and out door area for dining and drinking. Enclosed free parking. High quality food and presentation at dinner

Review 48:No tea/coffee making facilities in room. It seemed to be possible to order a cooked breakfast via room service but it wasn't offered in the restaurant, either verbally or by way of a menu.

Review 49:Location, restaurant was excellent. Hotel has private car park behind a gate protected by key code. This was important to us as we didn't have to unload our car for the night.

Review 50:Everything! Our stay was perfect. I was visiting my daughter and her husband who live in Compeigne. One of my close girlfriends was on this trip with me and we loved the hotel.

Review 51:Bathroom could do with updating

Review 52:This is a lovely hotel, the staff are exceedingly friendly and the restaurant superb. Probably the best meal I have eaten in France.

Review 53:Nothing.

Review 54:Very friendly place to stay with pleasant and helpful staff. Accommodation , good, and location excellent. We would recommend this Hotel Highly.

Review 55:Wine very pricey by the glass, small measure for 6Euros only less thanhalf full.Would probably work out cheaper to buy a bottle.

Review 56:Superb meal convenient fot our stay as we where passing through. Alittle far out of town centre.

Review 57:The bathrooms need some modernisation.

Review 58:The restaurant was excellent and the food was absolutely exquisite. The rooms were comfortable and nicely decorated.

Review 59:The windows on the 2 room's windows were dirty and hadn't been cleaned in a while. The way they opened it would have been an easy job. This is a real shame and obviously a house-keeping oversight but not good. I gave the feedback to the receptionist and she said she'd look into it - and am sure she will.

Review 60:We'd booked the suite for our 2 nights and having 2 rooms was perfect. The bathroom was a good size with plenty of room for cosmetics and other toiletries. The restaurant setting is heavenly, and the staff were superb (as was the meal).

Review 61:Insufficient lighting in bedroom. Poor shower facilities Soft mattress!

Review 62:It is a wonderful setting: beautiful gardens, and building. Superb restaurant with interesting menu. Secure, gated on-site parking

Review 63:Lovely staff, welcoming and freindly. Near the forest and other local sites. beautiful area, sorry I didn't see any sanglia's dispite looking, but saw a hoof print, wow! Thanks France.

Review 64:Restaurant prices are very high. Portions are very small, i had a three course meal and thought about going out an hour later to eat again. Rooms are begining to look tired

Review 65:Staff are very friendly. Hotel has a good safe car park.

Review 66:There was nothing that I disliked about this hotel.

Review 67:I liked the design of my room (both decor and lay-out or arrangement), as well as I would say the same about the hotel overall -- the design was comfortingly traditional -- it simply felt like a good place to be.

Review 68:You are not within walking distance for local restaurants. A short driveand having a gps was helpful when searching for restaurants.

Review 69:A beautiful Hotel and Restaurant. We did not eat at the Restaurant asthe menu was fine dining and the price reflected that. The Hotel roomswere well priced and comfortable. The gardens and surroundings wellmaintained.

Review 70:Breakfast was below expectations for the cost. The fruit was old and the coffee cold.

Review 71:The quiet rooms overlooking a garden at the back. Secure parking.

Review 72:Nothing at all.

Review 73:The standard of the service and the facility was astonishing for the price. The dinner and the breakfast at the restaurant in the hotel were also excellent. If the location does not matter to you, this hotel is absolutely the best.
