Reviews for Hotel De La Poste

Review 1:I put dislikes in the "like" section because I overlooked the dislikes when I first booked this hotel, due to the nature of the website. Another dislike - they lock the hotel around 9:30pm and that means you can't get in OR OUT without calling the owner who will be very cranky with you. So not for people who like to eat late or explore the city after dark. Also while we were able to get parking, there are only about 2-3 spaces available so make sure to reserve parking ahead.

Review 2:Great location right in city center. Very clean with comfortable bed and great pillows. HOWEVER - WIFI won't work in your room, toilet didn't flush, some staff were quite rude, and no food allowed in your room (you will get yelled at).

Review 3:1. No wifi. It's not working. 21st century and no wifi in hotel 2. Horrible and ugly bathroom 3. Stuff don't speak English, very difficult to communicate 4. Parking costs ~10 € / per night. No free parking

Review 4:1. Very friendly stuff 2. Huge room 3. Stylish hotel 4. In the center 5.

Review 5:No information until we asked, that an evening meal wasn't available on Sunday evening. Although staff were happy to let us out and have the garage unlocked by 0700, no tea or coffee were offered at that time. Perhaps we should have asked. Wifi was inconsistent, not successful on second floor - incoming messages arriving but research on the net not sustained.

Review 6:Excellent location, In the lovely town centre. The staff were friendly and did everything we asked. Close to several likely restaurants and the beautiful river front. The car was secured overnight in a locked garage for 10Eu.

Review 7:Bad value for our money, excepted a lot more, owner not in the slightest interested in helping us out, will not stay here again.

Review 8:Not a lot, overpriced food,no bar to relax in very poor indeed!

Review 9:Good location in the centre of the old town. Not luxury accommodations, but very clean, a spacious bedroom and bathroom, pleasant surroundings and staff.

Review 10:the decor in the hallways was very dark, and a bit quirky, all heavy hessian. No air conditioning in the room, and it was difficult to leave the window open by much as it looked onto a main city square. therefore we could hear the late nighters...it was a bit noisy

Review 11:the friendliness of the hosts who were happy to chat. The docile big dog! the location which was right bang in the centre of the town, and above all the excellent dinner served by our hosts. Real French food, and such a pleasure after several mediocre meals we have had on our travels.

Review 12:The hotel is located at the Place des Cordeliers which is often noisy at night. At hot summer days temperature in the rooms becomes unbearable.

Review 13:Interesting old building.

Review 14:Possibly the smallest loo in France. Impossible to close the door! All the walls in the corridors are covered in orange/brown sisal matting, the ceilings are dark orange and the carpets are red/brown and the lighting is poor - bizarre to say the least! Our room was bright & cheery though.

Review 15:The food.

Review 16:The owners were not very welcoming at all. Actually quite rude in comparison to some of the welcomings we've experienced this trip. No attempt was made to even be polite, making us feel quite uncomfortable.

Review 17:The location was excellent & right in the centre of town. The hotel was lovely & the rooms were beautiful.

Review 18:Facing the main town square, which was cleaned by machine very early in the morning. Windows were open as there is no air conditioning

Review 19:Staff were very good. Food was good.

Review 20:No elevator. Can do over night parking without getting from hotel. Didn't want the garage open before 7 am. We had to get to the airport for a flight.

Review 21:Our room was very nice. It was on the top floor.

Review 22:Wi fi was not strong.

Review 23:Lovely hotel. Large rooms. Fantastic shower. Friendly staff. The best part of the stay was our evening meal. I was in a party of 6 and we chose the set menu. Everyone was extremely happy with their food - some of the best we have had in France. By having an evening meal in the restaurant, we received our breakfast for free. I recommend this hotel.

Review 24:Television didn't work. Room overlooked by market place, no net curtains so had to keep main curtains closed making room very dark

Review 25:Good position for the town

Review 26:We had a room in the top of the building and in case of a fire.......how to get safe out ......?

Review 27:Staff, eating and drinking and value for money, location, parking

Review 28:Situation was central, but not very nice. The Hotel was quite dirty with it´s corridor walls covered with a deep red sort of vowen carpet. It looked dirty and we kept our clothes and luggage locked in the car for the night. Which was good as we had several red bits on arms and leggs in the morning. Stayed only one night and left France for Germany!

Review 29:Had we not booked in advance we would not have stayed. It looked tatty outside and the inside needed a total update. The huge dog at reception was very off-putting even though we have dogs of our own.

Review 30:Breakfast was good. Near to the Cathedral.

Review 31:Horrible hotel , staff not friendly in any way. Dark and unwelcoming also smelt of dogs. Rooms basic and uncomfortable. The worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Would not recommend to any one.

Review 32:Nothing

Review 33:The rooms need tea and coffee making facilities. The TV could do with an English language station such as BBC World or CNN. A large dog was allowed to walk around although it was docile and dog lovers wont be offended by it.The common areas are cramped with a very small sitting area for residents. The corridors are rather dark with a heavy wall covering.

Review 34:This is a centrally located hotel with an individual character. It is situated a short walk from the cathedral and the riverside and next to a car park if space is not available in the yard which can accomaodate only 3 or 4 vehicles at most. If you can park in the yard it is locked at night for security. The breakfast was very good and plentiful in French style. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

Review 35:Very average 2 star .Dark corridors, steep stairs, room on second floor.Elderly Guest with limited mobility. Given alternative room on first floor but charged extra. Room + 2breakfasts+parking 97Euro Ok, it is an old building ,water takes a while to run hot Breakfast ok but not overwhelmingly exciting. Parking charge on hotel property. Would not stay again by choice

Review 36:Location

Review 37:One night we had a room which had the sound of a constant engine noise I think fridge compressors. Neither of us got any sleep. We were moved to a super room with balcony overlooking the inner court yard.

Review 38:Location, meals. Some rooms

Review 39:A charming old hotel in the middle of the old town. Lots of character, room and bathroom was very clean and a good breakfast. Our room was quiet. The breakfast room was charming and the people friendly.

Review 40:Gentle crew. Correct. Old building. Charming. Quiet.

Review 41:Communication was difficult. Breakfast was meagre.

Review 42:The opportunity to explore the old streets and buildings of Auxerre.

Review 43:An unwashed, big dog welcomes the guests , what an awful smell. Separate WC !?

Review 44:Excellent location, but unbelievable inner decoration .

Review 57:Those walls are weird, not for the feint hearted

Review 58:Great location & fabulous dining room

Review 59:Breakfast really lacking especially as one of us gluten free hotel would do nothing to help

Review 60:very friendly staff, room clean with good bathroom, the bed was a little hard for my taste but everyone else was happy.

Review 61:Place a bit funky

Review 62:Friendly staff

Review 63:It's very charmant. And the Restaurant was excellent. Breakfast was offered.

Review 68:Comfort and central location.

Review 69:Wifi barely works.

Review 70:Excellent location in a lovely town. Off street parking. Old-world charm. Warm, comfortable room and bed.

Review 71:Not having my own key to let myself in after two late nights.

Review 72:Clean décor of the bedroom. Individuality of the hotel. Central location.

Review 73:What's not to like about an exquisite place to stay with wonderful people

Review 74:It's all wonderful but the mirror ceiling was something else!

Review 75:Internet was very poor and the hole interior was infuised with smoke.

Review 76:It's situated in the centre of the village

Review 77:Carpet-like wallpaper on walls made it very gloomy in corridors.

Review 78:Great location in centre of town. Quirky and full of character.

Review 79:Very red & dark long corridors leading to rooms. Rather run down hotel in need of some TLC.

Review 80:Location in centre of town.

Review 81:spiral staircases, dark corridors, poor welcome, no hairdrier.

Review 82:location

Review 83:It is a hotel with atsmosfære and with its own story fra the past

Review 84:Very pleasant staff. Good central location. Very tasty evening meal at a reasonable cost, which generated a free breakfast.

Review 85:Blankets. Usual lack of maintenance.

Review 86:Very helpful staff

Review 87:Hotel was tired looking. Some bedding (not sheets) was dirty. Bed could have been more comfortable.

Review 88:Restaurant good with tasty food, well presented. I member of staff was v helpful and polite.

Review 89:Unusual wall coverings on the corridor walls

Review 90:The position in Auxerre is very good, the place itself is unique, you can easily see how it looked in Dickens time. Fabuolous Dining Room & the Breakfast was lovely

Review 91:Decor a bit old fashioned (particularly the corridors)....but for us, this added to the charm! Our room didn't have air conditioning but that was fine as the room was at the cooler shadey side of the hotel. This might have been a problem if we had been on the sunny side.

Review 92:Great location Good value Very nice continental breakfast Lovely old restaurant Good bathroom and shower Mainly used by the French (when we were there) Hotel had character unlike many of the large chain hotels Staff all very nice but it was necessary to try and speak a little French (quite rightly!) Woody (the dog) was amazing!

Review 93:Dark interior to common areas. Lack of shelving in the bathroom. Too tired furnishings and no opportunity for making hot refreshments in the room.

Review 94:The location and the restaurant.

Review 95:Owners of the hotel smoked downstairs of hotel lobby which was off putting.

Review 96:Great rooms, really clean and light! Great location for the town centre and the cathedral.

Review 97:Toilet was sited very close to bath. Small Bath not a shower TV alarm went off unexpected at 4am Biting mosquitoes

Review 98:Location Breakfast Staff very helpful Great view of town from room window

Review 99:Being greeted by a dog the size of a medium sized car at the door andhaving to move that dog every time you entered or exited the hotel.Being told a blunt no and being hung up on by the manageress when askedif she could have a look at the lack of heating. The red carpet whichlines every wall detracted from any attraction the hotel may have had.We won't return

Review 100:The location was excellent and that was about all we liked

Review 101:Notice in room said "this is an old building, you need to be patient for hot water to arrive". In the morning we waited and waited and waited but no hot water and no shower.

Review 102:Blanket is old. Looks like its taken from the cats basket. The towelsare old and hard. Pillows are uncomfortable. Poor shower set upBreakfast basic. Curtains are thin and let's too much light in.

Review 103:Location is right in the town. The wifi is good. Clean sheets.

Review 104:The staff were not very helpful at all, not friendly. The room was poor

Review 105:The location was very good

Review 106:Rather dark and dated decor

Review 107:The central location

Review 108:Very French

Review 109:Simple room

Review 110:Lovely family- run hotel right in the centre of Auxerre. Lots of character and very comfortable .

Review 111:The hotel is too expensive

Review 112:Wonderful cathedral.

Review 113:Old fashion decoration, especially the bathroom, and very low bed comfort. No elevator.

Review 114:Central location.

Review 115:Warm stuffy room, not service minded staff, no AC, not even a fan in the room, dark hallways and boring decor,

Review 116:Traditional, old style French hotel. Very different, in a good way, to the chain hotels we more often, for convenience, use.

Review 117:Breakfast.

Review 118:Bathtub has no shower curtains and the breakfast was not worth 8 Euros!

Review 119:Location. Staff very helpful.
