Reviews for Hôtel Le Maxime

Review 1:Breakfast was too expensive at EUR 13 for croissant and coffee, an extra charge is levied for cold meat/cheese. The cabinet under the bathroom basin was rotting, the sealant around the bath was dirty. The room was cold and the radiator tepid, the airconditioning could not be used for heating because it was broken.

Review 2:The location is good but has been spoiled by a redesign of the street which makes entering and leaving the garage difficult. The views over the Yonne are good.

Review 3:Very basic. Employees barely speak English. Checking in was a mess. The reception guys did not read our reservation and put us in the wrong room. After 20 mins of talking moved us to other room. When we almost opened room door he ran to us and told there were already guests in that room and asked us to wait 15 mins more. A bit too expensive for such a quality.

Review 4:Very clean and good located.

Review 5:Single sheet toilet paper (long time no see), breakfast OK but not worth the €12

Review 6:Historical location with a great view of the Yonne river. Large comfortable beds, friendly service.

Review 7:Basically all ok except our key didn't work on the second day and had to be recoded.

Review 8:Comfortable bed ,good breakfast Easy parking.Terrific outlook from the room.Old town a short walk away.

Review 9:WiFi in the room did not work well but the computer in the bar area downstairs made up for it.

Review 10:The staff were very helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and a pleasant space with a lovely view in a great location. We booked well in advance and had a room on the second floor overlooking the river. We were in the mansard section of the building so our window was not huge though. The rooms with the large windows on the first floor are the more expensive ones.

Review 11:My wife's computer would not connect to the internet even though mine connected without any problem. I spent about 30 minutes trying to connect with no success. The problem may have been our's, but it was the only time we had this problem

Review 12:Our room was on the top floor and looked out on the canal. The view was very pleasant, but you could only look out on it if you were standing as the window was quite high. We were 5 to 10 minutes walk from a number of restaurants.

Review 13:We had to change the booking from two nights to only the first. It was impossible to do this online with Booking.com but the landlady managed to do it for us by phone

Review 14:Really nice hotel in excellent location. The landlady was particularly helpful in recommending an excellent local restaurant and sorting out the booking change with Booking.com

Review 15:Breakfast was quite expensive, and there a few if any other options nearby.

Review 16:Excellent location, with a great view over the River Yonne. Friendly staff, who went to some effort to secure a restaurant booking for us. Good size rooms and good value.

Review 17:Contrary to our expectations, there were very few restaurants within walking distance of hotel. The bulk of Auxerre was up a steep hill behind hotel, a tough walk for some us. Free wifi was erratic.

Review 18:View of the river made a small room feel bigger. Hotel was easy to find by car and protected parking lot was reassuring.

Review 19:Location. The view of the quai. Only a short walk up to the clock tower and the center of town. Very nice bistros close, lovely town for an overnight stay.

Review 20:The location was perfect, we had a good view over the river and the hotel was within easy walking distance of everything we wanted to do. There was free public parking directly opposite the hotel.

Review 21:Basic breakfast pricy at €13 with extras like an egg a further €3.70! So we ate up the hill in a cafe. Parking €9 euros a night and not always available. Parking outside is free but the car parks were full.

Review 22:Good location, comfy bed, good bathroom. Wifi free to connect.

Review 23:the breakfast could be expanded to a greater choice of open cheeses; for tea drinkers there should be available something bigger than a small Cup (teapot would be better) the Windows in breakfast room can not be opened so the air within is not really fresh

Review 24:the Location of this Hotel is great with Walking distance to City Center parking space in the garage was appreciated very well nice atmosphere in hotel

Review 25:Nothing

Review 26:Good view overlooking the river and an excellent base for exploring the town. Garage parking available at a cost but essential as there was no available nearby parking when we arrived.

Review 27:It was awful. There is a bar next door which has tables and chairs on the street and across the road which plays loud music until 1am and slightly quieter music until 2am. There is no chance of sleep until then There was no room service Avoid this hotel

Review 28:Free wifi

Review 29:Good location, within a few minutes stroll of the old city. Good restaurants nearby. Secure parking on site for a moderate fee. Friendly, professional staff.

Review 30:Bed appears larger on website, possible photo of Kingsize or some "clever" photography (not). Room and bathroom cramped. Air Conditioning didn't appear to work?

Review 31:Location Air Conditioning in Reception

Review 32:Independent French hotel - plenty of character. Only quibble - I had written ahead and confirmed that we wanted a twin room. This was forgotten - and it was unfortunate that there were then no twins overlooking the quai - our view was of the back and car park....

Review 33:the Air con was a bit noisy, but aren't they all.

Review 34:Great to have hotel parking and a great view out over the river. Air con was a boost and receptionists that put up with my poor French as their English was excellent. A good hotel.

Review 35:a lovely hotel in a great location right on the river in Auxerre. Visit Chablis a 20 minute drive away, or just chill out watching the boats on the river.

Review 36:E13 for breakfast expensive and they charge E9 to park in their garage but street parking outside th hotel is free.

Review 37:Great location on the quay, bright modern room.

Review 38:No restaurant, but others nearby. Give breakfast a pass, go into old town.

Review 39:Location, helpfulness of staff. Need to ask for river view, back rooms stare at wall.

Review 40:The staff was fine except for one late afternoon woman at reception who was consistently unhelpful and seemed unhappy in her work.

Review 41:Loved the river and the proximity to the old city. So much to see here and this is a perfect location.

Review 42:Not only was Auxerre our favorite city during our journey on Joan's path; but this hotel offered en everything we needed! Right on the river paved with bicycle path as well as small gardens and water fountains. Excellent docked restaurants!

Review 43:No tea-making facility in the room. The breakfast coffee wasn't freshly made. Better to have breakfast in a nearby cafe. Secure parking is not free.

Review 44:The room was tastefully modernised but retained the historic feel of the building. This is our idea of how a small French hotel should be!

Review 45:The manager on duty when we checked in was most un-friendly

Review 46:Staff, other than the manager, who was on duty when we checked in were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The room, overlooking the river, was very comfortable and quiet..

Review 47:Payin 9 euro for parking in an empty covered are to the rear of the hotel.

Review 48:Staff are really friendly & helpful. Location really good. We had a room overlooking the canal - lovely.

Review 49:Nothing to complain about

Review 50:Staff and location were spot on. Super helpful and personable staff who knew everything and got everything sorted. Very close to centre for shops cafes and sightseeing.

Review 51:The free Wi-fi datastream is slow in the more remote rooms.

Review 52:This hotel has traditional comfortable rooms facing the River Yonne in the centre of the town. It serves a very comprehensive breakfast, and there is lots of choice over where to eat for dinner within an easy walking distance. The staff are most helpful and welcoming.

Review 53:Honestly, so much was spot on. However, as we traveled in the middle of winter... I felt the room could have been a bit warmer.

Review 54:This is a hotel that takes the business of hospitality seriously. Staff courteous and attentive. Room clean, attractive and comfortable. Very nice bathrooms. Breakfast room very pleasant. Small bar area perfect in a pinch for an aperitif. Altogether, a lovely hotel experience.

Review 55:There was a problem with wi-fi at a time when I needed to send a critical communication. The public PC packed up as well.

Review 56:Charming helpful staff. Location near old town centre.

Review 57:Maxime Hotel looked on the river with great views. Walking distance to center ville and Tourist Information. Cannot wait to visit this amazing town again

Review 58:The inside just didn't have much character. The breakfast, while somewhat expensive, was pretty bland.

Review 59:The river view was nice. Even being on the street, it was quiet enough. I liked the on-site parking.

Review 60:The greeting at reception when we first arrived was very brusque to say the least. The woman on reception was extremely offhand and did not make us feel at all welcome. When we asked later about restaurants she wss extremely rudevand unhelpful. Fortunately the staff the following day made up for her.

Review 61:The breakfast and the people serving it. The location and the hotel itself.

Review 62:Rather off hand reception. Breakfast at 13 euros far too expensive. Badly maintained lift which jolted madly on take off and landing. The hotel essentially lacked character and warmth.

Review 63:Attractive old building overlooking the RiverYonne . Nice view from second floor. Enormous bed. Good bathroom.

Review 64:The fact I had to go home I could have done with doubling the length of our stay

Review 65:Position; helpfulness of the staff, breakfast was ample and the bed was comfortable. And they had a lovely little bar through the back and the girl on duty was very cheerful given that she was the only one on duty late on.

Review 66:For excellent river viewing, ask the first floor room.

Review 67:Good location facing river, and 15 minutes walking distance from the station Clean room and comfort bed kind staff

Review 68:Window frames and sashes badly in need of paint in our room.

Review 69:Excellent location, right on the Yonne River with a beautiful view. Room was very nice, and fairly spacious. Very good shower and bathroom facilities. Staff was extremely pleasant, conversant in English and very accommodating. Private parking, at a fee, was a nice feature. Very convenient to the Old Town, restaurants and touristic sights.

Review 70:Additional taxes were charged so we paid €30 more than quoted on booking.com.

Review 71:We opted for an extra large double bed which was huge and enough room for two adults and a small boy on an overnight stay en route from the south to calais. The hotel is located on the riverfront and centrally for some excellent restaurants to the right and town centre to the left. The room and hotel were clean and pleasant, there is secure parking so we left the majority of bags in the car. A great place to stay on a stopover. 12pm checkout was very civilised.

Review 72:Hotel has a scruffy appearance but once inside it is well appointed. Parking is charged at €9 and breakfast €13 is charged but well worth it.

Review 73:A very centrally situated hotel on the river. A number of good restaurants are within walking distance of hotel. A FREE bus can be caught outside the Tourist information every 20 minutes which takes you up to the village.

Review 74:I could not access the wifi .

Review 75:We had a lovely room with individual character and a beautiful view. The staff were exceptionally friendly and professional. It was all good.

Review 76:Hotel was on the river in a quiet part of the riverfront; traffic was zero to minimal at night. Beautiful outlook over the boats. Short walk up the hill through the beautiful old town to find shops and many restaurants. It's not a cluttered tourist town, it's a really enjoyable town to spend a few days. Lovely walk or cycle along the river and tow path to nearby towns like Vaux, without need to take a bus or train.

Review 77:If elderly, the walk up to the city and cathedral can be challenging.

Review 78:Ideal hotel for visiting Auxeere, a lovely city. Traditional surroundings and good views of the river.

Review 79:Wooden window frames in rear facing room looked like they hadn't been painted for 30 years.

Review 80:Location on the canal side within easy walk of the old town centre.

Review 81:Just a1 for us.

Review 82:location, comfort

Review 83:WiFi in the room was intermittent

Review 84:Close to canal and city centre

Review 85:9 euros for car park.

Review 86:Great location, comfortable room, hotel in the centre of the Old Town overlooking the river. Staff were very friendly.

Review 87:Why not include breakfast like so many places in Europe.

Review 88:Served our purpose, gave us a good night's rest.

Review 89:Very noisy from bar next door until the early hours of the morning . Bar in hotel could have been more welcoming

Review 90:Location opposite river

Review 91:Great little 3 star hotel in a great location in Auxerre.

Review 92:Well located for the town. Perfectly pleasant for our overnight stop. Easy parking. Good breakfast buffet. Polite staff.

Review 93:The disco boat opposite was very noisy.

Review 95:Friendly staff Excellent central location Hotel has rather tired look
