Reviews for Hôtel d'Angleterre
Review 1:I've stayed here before and the hotel is fine. I was given bad information by the desk clerk about parking. She advised me not to remain parked in the small lot in front of the train station when I arrived at 6 PM - she said it would cost a lot of money right away. In fact, parking was free until 6 AM the next day. In any case I moved my car to the street parking once the festival crowd had departed and that was free until 9 AM the next day
Review 2:Couldn't get heating to work but I did not ask for help as we were not in much. It did not seem to be switched on in December. Thick blankets though and my husband wasn't cold at all
Review 3:Good location short walk to centre. Huge room with lovely big beds and very clean and well decorated.
Review 4:The staff were exceptionally helpful and made the stay very enjoyable. The location to the railway station and to the centre of town made movement around easy. Would definitely recommend this hotel
Review 5:They took out our hotel bill twice from our credit card and I am trying to get the money back from them, without any success and I am not happy about this.
Review 6:Not that it's important, but I found the lights a little difficult at first, but all was well.
Review 7:Staff were friendly and efficient. Always helpful as I spoke three members of staff.
Review 8:Sadly for the hotel the boiler has broken, but good for us as the discount offered made it incredible value for money.
Review 9:Well placed for a stop over. Easy to get to, great CCTV parking near bye and several good restaurants around the corner.
Review 10:Comfortable large room and big bathroom, well located hotel overlooking beautiful square. Very pleasant friendly staff willing to listen to my very basic French and reply in good English. Will definitely return and stay here.
Review 11:The room in particular was decrepit. I wish I could post a photo of the toilet! Breakfast totally uninspiring. The hotel rating belies the reality.
Review 12:The receptionist at check out was very pleasant and helpful. You can park in the car park opposite.
Review 13:We've stayed here a couple of times and booked again partly because the breakfast was so good, as well as the ideal location. The staff didn't seem to be as friendly or professional as before and the breakfast wasn't nearly as good and we wondered if it had changed hands or just lost the plot!
Review 14:Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel had a lovely authentic French feel to it without the Paris prices. Meals are of very good quality and reasonably priced. Would definitely stay there again.
Review 15:Pillows could have been better ("kit bag" style).
Review 16:The hotel felt very welcoming and homely. Huge bed, everything very clean. Lots of car parking in the vicinity (free at weekends). Plenty of good bars and restaurants within 5 minutes. Staff attentive and helpful. Lived up to 4 star billing.
Review 17:Couldn't get on their wifi so a bit disappointing. Car park was very secure but entry not explained well enough in English - perhaps a card or something explaining the procedure in English would work better for those not fluent in French! Shower head in our room 119 kept falling down so a bit useless! Lovely room otherwise. No tea or coffee or water in room.
Review 18:Friendly staff, evening meal very nice, good size room. Convenient to walk to main shops & main square. Very picturesque city.
Review 19:It was a disappointment not to have tea and coffee making facilities in the bedroom.
Review 20:This was a surprise trip for my husband to visit battlefields of the Somme. The hotel is located in the middle of the town and surrounded by good eateries. The room was extremely comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful and we were able to store our bicycles in the basement as did others. The parking was easy with a pass to the underground car park virtually next to the hotel. The wifi was good and consistent and the Room was spacious and clean.
Review 21:The hotel car park token didn't work properly, and you need instructions for the egg boiling machine at breakfast!
Review 22:Close to town centre and everything you needed was easy to find. The room was a great size, comfortable if a little old fashioned.
Review 23:WiFi struggled at time in our room. But it was a minor issue
Review 24:Great place with some real charm. Staff were very helpful, especially to us as we had very little french. Room was big, with comfy beds and was clean. Very happy
Review 25:Overpriced for the standard provided. Someone had previously been smoking in the room, which was signed as non-smoking. The shower area had mould.
Review 26:Hotel location was good and the reception staff were friendly.
Review 27:We walked to lovely square and enjoyed a very good meal but had it been raining would have preferred restaurant in hotel to be open!
Review 28:Size and comfort of room.
Review 29:Staff disinterested, wifi didn't work and when my wife advised reception she was told it was because our kindles were too old! (never had a problem in hotels before), furniture old-fashioned, bathroom needed modernisation. Dirty towels left in bath were not replaced, merely hung back up, so we had to request replacements. Overall tired and neglected air.
Review 30:We had a 'superior' room which was large with a very comfortable bed (with a ripped and repaired bedspread!). Plenty of storage space.
Review 31:Nothing bad to mention at all, however unfortunately at night you can hear the odd train in the distance.
Review 32:A very warm welcome A very nice room An exceptional meal in the restaurant Lovely wine available
Review 33:I booked on booking.com and at the time of booking which was the day before arrival the website advised my card had been debited in full. On checking out I was told I hadn't paid and as I belived I had paid I had to check my internet banking before I was happy to pay. This was not the fault of the hotel and the confusion was due to the information provided on the booking.com website.
Review 34:Friendly staff and a very comfortable room
Review 35:We took the breakfast option which was a huge mistake. Nine Euros for a bit of stale bread and fruit and no milk available - only when we threatened not to pay did someone go and get some - disgusted - eat out for b/fast
Review 36:Very nice, helpful staff. Nice sized room and comfortable bed. Shower and bathroom more than adequate and good location to stop at.
Review 37:Free wifi didn't work.
Review 38:Huge bed. Warm and comfortable room. Friendly staff. Convenient location. Good breakfast. Interesting Art Noveau styling.
Review 39:Hotel located very convenient for Christmas market as well as normal Saturday market and shops. Walking distance to Wellington quarries museum and short drive to Vimy ridge. Hotel team and staff really lovely, very professional and nothing too much trouble. comfy clean room too
Review 40:room became very hot during the night.
Review 41:Location, helpful and friendly staff. Room was a good size and well furnished. The bed was comfortable. Cuisine was excellent. The grilled tuna and accompaniments, delicious.
Review 42:The appearance of the hotel from the outside, as well as the public rooms, are below average, almost shabby, and could do with a lot of TLC.
Review 43:The room, though very old-fashioned in its furnishings, was very comfortable, the bathroom excellent. The staff were helpful and friendly. The breakfast was excellent.
Review 44:In the station square - noisy at night Just enough facilities; restaurant closed at weekend Towels small and few in bathroom OK for a night but not longer
Review 45:Staff helpful and pleasant Good location
Review 46:No tea or coffee making facilities. Plenty of room to accommodate if it could be provided.
Review 47:We travelled with our 10 year old Granddaughter who shared our room. The room was spacious with a triple, and double bed. The furnishings were of good quality although may be classed as a little old fashioned these days. However the room lacked for nothing except tea making facility. Bathroom separate from toilet which was a bonus in our circumstances. Very nice evening meal as we did not want to venture too far with a 10 year old. We were the only people in restaurant but service was excellent.
Review 48:Bath panel had tendency to swing out so shower could flood bathroom floor. (But ok with care!)
Review 49:Huge room (chambre superiere) with dressing area. Hotel is well-positioned for all amenities in Arras. Parking outside in station square. Good breakfast. Cannot comment on restaurant as we did not eat there. A recommended stop for touring the WW1 battlefield sites.
Review 50:A bit noisy in morning but think that was street cleaner or refuse lorry. Luck of the draw!
Review 51:Large clean rooms. Friendly and courteous staff Good hotel rate for underground car park close by. Easy walk to Grand Place and Place des Heroes. 15 mins walk to Wellington Quarry
Review 52:Good food but slightly over decorated with extra bits and pieces
Review 53:Engjoyed the conversations with helpful staff and found the room very comfortable and spacious
Review 54:We have stayed here 3 times before and it has gotten worse each time I will not book again. We asked the manager to fix the curtains as they were falling off the track and also to fix the air con as it didn't work, he said he would but didn't when we asked again he had gone home and not passed our issues on. The lady who we then dealt with it was very good and gave us another room but the second room was still not of good quality and was dirty but as we were only there for 1 night we decided not to complain but to never book it again. When we went to check out they had put breakfast on the bill even though we had booked room only the girl was very apologetic and took it off.
Review 55:The 2 ladies who dealt with our complaints well.
Review 56:Mobile phone left in room 29 seems to have vanished. It still has not been switched on so perhaps it is hiding behind the bed. It has some irreplaceable photographs on it. Please contact me if it is found
Review 57:A very friendly and helpful staff
Review 58:Having to leave!
Review 59:Location old world grandeur and charm, the most friendly and helpfulstaff, very large bedrooms and excellent value for money made this avery comfortable stay. The restaurant menu was small but ensured thateverything was beautifully fresh and perfectly cooked. Also secureunderground parking for only 8 euros a day.
Review 60:9 euros for breakfast was a joke, coffee , toast and cereal , nocroissants, a boiled egg if you wanted. The whole place is tired and inneed of an upgrade
Review 61:No tea or coffee making facilities in room Breakfast basic and chaotic Staffing levels very low
Review 62:Rooms were clean Very close to Railway Station Close to Bars and Restaurants
Review 63:Room very dated , uncut reactive , breakfast poor , just a very old but quite expensive hotel , ,,, not value for money ,, one night is enough ,,,
Review 64:Not a lot for what I paid
Review 65:The hotel does not have its own car park and guests are given a card which allows them to use the nearby public underground car park, a gloomy and very crowded place. Also guests have to pay for the parking facility.
Review 66:The hotel is well located for cafes and restaurants and the old town. It is also has a very relaxed atmosphere, spacious, comfortable rooms and helpful staff. The buffet breakfast was a bit expensive at 9 euros a head but had plenty of choice. The manager willingly gave us advice about visiting the WW1 battlefields and the British Military War Memorial.
Review 67:The family suite was very tired to say the least. The bathroom and toilet had a strange smell and wasn't clean. The bedding and furniture needed replacing. The 2nd bed was propped up by books, the electrical sockets in the lounge were hanging off the wall and the air conditioning was broken.
Review 68:Location Staff tried hard to sort out problems. Room was very large
Review 69:The fact it was extremely hot and stuffy in the room, and you could not open the window - and even a fan would have helped. The breakfast was a bit of a joke, 9 euro, for a bit of cereal, a piece of fruit, and some toast.
Review 70:The fact it was right across the road from the Aaras Rail Station. The quaintness of the Hotel, the room was lovely and roomy and the bed nice and comfy.
Review 71:Hot when we stayed the family room was on the top floor and the air con was not that good so a bit on the warm side at night
Review 72:Family room was a great size, staff were very friendly and helpful. Location is good for the old town, 5 min walk.
Review 73:Perhaps the decor was a little dated, but the rooms are very clean and beds comfortable
Review 74:Location was great, we people watched in the evenings as our large room overlooked the square and station – our room was huge! Good car parking nearby, just book with reception and they give you a card before parking the car. Breakfasts were friendly and enjoyable, although perhaps could have been included in the room rate. Other reviews commented on the hotel decor which is a bit dated, but everything is really clean and comfortable.
Review 75:the fridge didn't work and we needed it . we told them but they offered no alternative.
Review 76:the staff were really good and the restaurant was excellent. the food amazing.
Review 77:The wifi was limited access only so kept cutting out. Very annoying when trying to send e-mails!!
Review 78:Location and staff were excellent. Very helpful and friendly.
Review 79:It needs regular maintenance (both curtains were hanging off the hooks) and also some refurbishment. The lack of a range of English speaking TV stations is not acceptable. BBC world was advertised on the programme but not available. The breakfast selection was very poor. The sign mentions 4 stars but it does not reach this level.
Review 80:Location - opposite Arras train station and short walking distance to the main square
Review 81:Very accommodating staff and nothing too much trouble. Decor a bit dated but wonderfully comfortable beds and pillows. Good breakfast.
Review 82:Location. Easy for access to the town. Very friendly staff.
Review 83:Very old building Invoice was not aligned with agreed price on Booking.com
