Reviews for Colo-I-Suva Rainforest Eco Resort
Review 1:Stayed in family villa with some mates. Place was stunning. Staff were helpful. Was a bit far out but that added to the charm. The bus trip to and from the city was certainly something you have to experience.
Review 2:We stayed in a very cheap room which was not so comfortable with a small bed and not much room. Nice balcony over the lake though. Also a faulty smoke alarm next door interrupted our sleep. I'm sure the better rooms would be a lovely stay.
Review 3:Stunning rainforest location. The restaurant was beautiful with good food and a beautiful view over a historical quarry lake. Amazing to stay in a rainforest so close to the busy city centre.
Review 4:It needs some TLC as it's a little tired. Although they wash the bedsheets they are all stained and need to be replaced, preferably with white sheets.
Review 5:The setting is stunning with a beautiful pond by the pool and a lake next to the restaurant. You can take their kayaks on the lake for a tranquil experience. Good hot showers. Lovely staff.
Review 6:The size of the spider just above the shower when the light sensor went off! Rooms were a little worn and there was damage seen of previous guests. Other people's behaviour is not controlled by the lodge, but it really makes me wonder about previous guests. Sheets worn thin.. Comfortable sleep. Lack of hooks on the walls or doors. I would have liked to get my pack to hang up. Especially after seeing that spider in the shower! Ha ha wouldn't keep him out, but give me a little peace of mind. ;)
Review 7:Incredibly friendly staff. They were very welcoming, helpful and polite. My room overlooked the lake and I loved the sounds and views of the lake!! Birds calling, things splashing.. Absolutely amazing. Had a great little deck with sitting area. Wifi was great, included with your room and very strong signal. Eco-ness of lodge.. The lake cycle (lake water was used throughout the lodge), auto lights in common areas. Restaurant had great food and drinks. The ika fish was pretty awesome. I had a question about bats, and the one lady went and printed me a facts sheet from the Internet! They go out of the way to accommodate you!
Review 8:Bed sheets were moldy and the room smelt very strongly of damp. The pool bar was shut and the main bar shut at 8-9 every night. No onsite store despite local shops being a far way off. The pool was small and uninviting. Very little information on local flora and fauna provided.
Review 9:good restaurant and lots of bird, bat and owl spotting from the balcony of our room.
Review 10:A couple of times I was a little put off by the way the Australian owners spoke to the Fijian staff...but it may not have been intentional:-/
Review 11:The Fijian staff were all so lovely, although there seemed to be some confusion around the room servicing they were very obliging and always freindly and polite. Susanna in the restaurant was SO lovely and nothing ever a problem for her :-)
Review 12:Attendants to check that Cars are parked properly. A Red car was parked half way on the parking and partly blocked the drive out route. Otherwise, no complaints.
Review 13:Nature and the Pond and the Professional Management
Review 14:Got really sick and was kicked out of a sofa and had to ball up on a really uncomfortable wooden bench out f view instead because the owners didn't like people sleeping in plain sight. The staff was really nice, but very hesitant to help in fear of the owner's reaction.
Review 15:The place was beautiful and the price wasn't bad. The food in the restaurant was good, but it might have made me sick. The staff and owners were helpful at first. Great place if you don't get sick
Review 16:The water was brown because of the turnaround of the lake.. I would of appreciated it, if someone notified me before our arrival.
Review 17:Staff were great, very friendly and helpful.
Review 18:This place was pretty cool. We stayed in a loft apartment. Mattress was very old and worn (dipped in the middle), pillows were old too but good if you like them flat. Shower was good, nothing fancy but did the job. Pool was dirty probably because it was too cold to be used by anyone. There's a lake on the property that you can kayak on. Rainforest is behind the property. Cost $5fjd to access the park inc waterfalls, pools and trails. Enjoyed exploring the rainforest trails and had the weather been better we would have definitely enjoyed the natural pools. Didnt stay long enough to try the food. We were given 4 wifi vouchers (4 hours) but it seemed to keep dropping out. Free parking. Definitely recommend staying here as a base for exploring the rainforest and/or Mt. Tova.
Review 19:Room smelled awful and was stuffy, just 1 power socket for the room with 4 beds, room way too small for 2 bunk beds, breakfast and food in the restaurant quite expensive (for resort guests it might be ok, but not for backpackers), I am not sure what exactely makes the resort 'ECO' as there were for instance neonlights everywhere (no energy saving lamps) and no recycling bin in the room
Review 20:Location next to the rainforest, public bus to Suva every 20 minutes, Wifi included (but the system with vouchers failed at least for me as I was after a while told that the code is already in use - happened with 3 different codes and therefore I was unable to connect)
Review 21:We booked the budget room, we weren't expecting much but our bed was broken & the room smelled of petrol. We didn't want to complain so tried to air it out but after a day it was making us feel sick & giving us a headache. So we had no choice but to request a move to another room. They gave us an air freshener which did nothing complained again & they did nothing. The management knew of our complaint too & just ignored us.
Review 22:Rainforest was nice surrounding but a little too isolated, if staying only stay for a night or two.
Review 23:However, the budget rooms we saw were really basic which does not offset the price which is quite high taking into condideration it is 9km from Suva.
Review 24:apparently there is an error on the reservation website and there are no budget rooms with lakeview wheras I reserved one. The staff was very helpful and upgraded us to stay in the studio which is to be highly appreciated. The surroundings (rainforest) are absolutely magic, you can see many species of birds including huge parrots.
Review 25:We got the budget twin room, i know you get your moneys worth but they should really upgrade the rooms, new paint new beds or even nice fresh clean bedding. We got bites from sleeping in the beds must be fleas and the bedding was dirty, the inner duvet from single bed was filthy so made our little one sleep in the double bed with us. I loved the resort itself but wouldn't pay for that room again, would def pay more to stay in a nicer room.
Review 26:The staff were so helpful by email and also upon our arrival, service and food was great.
Review 27:Can't say I disliked anything (apart from the weather)
Review 28:I loved the location. So close to the main town of Suva, yet it felt miles away from anywhere. The surrounding forest was breathtaking. The staff were so kind and helpful.
Review 29:In my opinion the hotel needs a more humble approach to managing local staff who tried hard but are ruled over by the owners wife. Didn't like the fact that the owners couldn't clear their own breakfast table and smoked in a no smoking area. Sets a bad example. Staff were wary and could not do right by the lady of the house.
Review 30:Staff want to please and help. Ignored by the owners wife until we spoke. Location is great. Exactly as described. Needs music!!!!
Review 31:Please open the front desk earlier. In addition, the bed sheet is not clean. Food is way expensive.
Review 32:The hostel is beyond my expectation. Before I went here, everyone told me Suva was not worth the time. But this hostel was definitely worth the time. I like the design style, the structure of the building.
Review 33:Rooms are basic, which is fine, but bathroom was a little smelly and shower was mouldy.
Review 34:The rainforest setting is beautiful. Restaurant area is lovely, overlooking a lake. Easy enough to get into Suva, close to lovely rainforest walks and swims.
Review 35:no plug in bathroom sink only one coat hanger for three people over a 7 night stay not quite sufficient storage area for all our clothes ( had to live out of suitcases ) TV reception very poor Lighting far to dim
Review 36:Pleasant quiet surroundings and very helpful staff at all times
Review 37:This place has tremendous potential. We knew it was a budget resort and were satisfied with our stay. Things that could be improved on are the following: a little paint with some trim work would do wonders. Throw the chairs out and get something that doesn't give you the Willis when you set in them. Power receptacles by the night stands. Throw the tiny old tv with the broken antenna away. If not a modern tv then a radio would be better. 2 blurry blurry channels really don't warrant a bad tv to degrade the place. The internet signal is good in the room and horrible in the restaurant. I don't know if it is a Fiji thing or just really bad service but I couldn't upload a hand full of photos. It took all night and still didn't complete. Additionally the code is only good for a short time and you have to continually login to connec. The internet was probably my biggest complaint. It would also be nice if the back porch were screened in so we could have used it and enjoyed it more.
Review 38:We loved the rainforest setting. The room was very private and secluded with a nice overlook of the lake. The bed was comfortable and the floors are a beautiful wood.
Review 39:The bure we stayed in was not an upgrade from the queen studio. The bathroom was not well kept with mouldy shower curtain and toilet and the bed had ants in it. Appreciate that it is an Eco resort and we were in a rainforest but we felt the queen studio was much nicer and better value. Free wifi is available but the coverage is patchy in places.
Review 40:The queen studio was a really nice room with a comfy bed and pretty clean. The dorm and budget rooms also offer good value for money if you are backpacking on a budget. The shared facilities were adequate. The food we had at the restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly and mostly helpful. Buses to suva run regularly and costs only F$2 each way. The colo-I-suva rainforest park (F$5 entrance) is very close by and worth a visit but if it is quiet then consider getting a guide as it is very isolated. It is relatively close to the airport and should cost about F$15 one way by taxi.
Review 41:The rooms are damp and moldy, but I guess that goes with staying in the rainforest. The walls are really thin so you will hear everything your neighbours are doing. I got some tummy bug there, either from the food or the filtered lake water.
Review 42:Really great staff. Friendly and helpful. Peaceful and tranquil setting by a pond.
Review 43:Very dirty, and aggressive and unhelpful owner. Location is not convenient.
Review 44:Very dirty. Rude and unhelpful owner.
Review 45:Spare blanket smelt mouldy
Review 46:Happy, friendly staff. Kyaking
Review 47:Great little retreat in the mountains 15 minutes drive from downtown Suva.
Review 48:Mould everywhere, awful moist/mouldy smell in the rooms, sheets smelled moist.
Review 49:Friendly staff, great location, nice food.
Review 50:we had a studio and it had been very spacious
Review 51:Great place surrounded by amazing jungle rainforest and just a short drive from central Suva.
Review 52:Would be good to have a toilet & shower in the room.
Review 53:Beautiful natural setting
Review 54:The price is good
Review 55:The loction
Review 56:The TV is just too small
Review 57:The place and the room facilities were good
Review 58:not at all.
Review 59:hostel in the rain forest. free wifi. clean bed and bath room. can catch a local bus from town centre.
Review 60:We were staying in room 4 at the top of the hill, and unfortunately we had to carry our luggage up because there was no trolley.
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:Everything. The staff are amazing and the place is tranquil and beautiful.
Review 63:The room was small and the bed wasn't very comfortable
Review 64:The setting was green and quiet. The rain was lovely.
Review 65:Location close to the city. Friendly staff
Review 66:smell caused by fungi on the wooden wall inside the room
Review 67:The beautiful fond and fish
Review 68:A kitchen would be an enormous 'plus' (as for every "budget friendly" place)
Review 69:The pond is lovely
Review 70:towels were too old to be used in hotel
Review 71:environment
Review 72:Restaurant and beautiful pond
Review 73:Dirty room as not used for some time
Review 74:Quite and lovely surroundings
Review 75:Maybe the locals should have a different price - just a suggestion.
Review 76:It's affordable - I love the natural beauty and the environment.
