Reviews for Hôtel Alpina

Review 1:The rooms and facilities generally are tired and dated, but kept clean.

Review 2:Location is second to none for Chamonix centre. The bar area is large, friendly and staff pretty good.

Review 3:Needs to be refurbished, needs better bed linen, duvets and pillows, maybe bigger TV, as well as some tea/coffee amenities (basic)

Review 4:Location is perfect, good value for money paid, pets welcome, close to parking and the hotel has parking as well, wifi friendly, nice view from the room

Review 5:Very dated bedrooms but staff couldn't be more helpful Bar is good and breakfast super Location amazing and really just let down by 1970s decor in the rooms

Review 6:The property needs a facelift; it is very tired. And sadly, the staff seem to reflect the property - they were not very friendly/helpful.

Review 7:The restaurant was nice and the room was clean.

Review 8:There's no kettle in the room. I went there during winter, attempted to make hot drinks but no kettle. So disappointed. Had to go downstairs to the bar everytime I needed hot water.

Review 9:The location is quite central in the heart of Chamonix area.

Review 10:the facilities are a bit old, but still functional. expect chamonix prices!

Review 11:great location, excellent amenities. the view from the restaurant was amazing. the staff was friendly upon arrival. the rooms were comfortable and clean.

Review 12:The Christmas dinner was a terrible experience all together. Waiters seemed confused ( hired off the street perhaps?) and the service and food was bad. Half an hour went by before we got anything to drink(water) even for European standard that is long!!After dinner we were accused of having had more bottles of wine than we did and they wanted to force us having to sign the bill. It was a bad Christmas dinner!! Would never stay there again! No effort was made to give any kind of compensation! Sad! Also checking out was a huge deal- took half an hour, because prices were not what they were suppose to be and several extra charges were on the bill.....if you still decide to stay there, check your bill when you check out! Be ready for the room temperature to be really hot , the rooms are old interior and burn marks were in the carpet, the curtains were ripped and the bathroom had mold everywhere in the tiles.... Do I need to say more????

Review 13:The hotel is very well located and staff were nice. It is old fashioned but cool and well run. We liked it's retro feel. We had a huge balcony with stunning views.

Review 14:Hotel booked half board while restaurant was privatized... We were then given vouchers to restaurant l'M in the town but kitchen was closed! Staff there pitied us with the tired kids and managed to get us something to eat (they were not surprised though) Spa not working... Jacuzzi not working... Wifi not working in rooms...

Review 15:Friendly staff despite most of the things not working and themselves being new hires (most of them in their first week working there!)

Review 16:N/A

Review 17:We liked the cleanliness, the room size, comfortable beds, and the front desk staff. The view simply can't be beat. So nice to have chairs on a balcony to enjoy it.

Review 18:Serviceable room, dated but given the price not an issue for me.

Review 19:Great location next to restaurants and stores and the front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Restaurant has fabulous vaulted ceilings and views

Review 20:The lady that greeted us, who i think was the owner was lovely. She was really helpful and very funny. The hotel was a welcome stay after spending 2 nights in mountain huts. Would definitely book there again.

Review 21:Check-in took forever, staff seemed quite umotivated. Tired decor. Expensive parking.

Review 22:Great central location although our room had somewhat restricted views of Mont Blanc even though it was booked as a room with views. Underground parking.

Review 23:We booked a premium (mountain) view double room and requested a high floor - upon arrival we were allocated a 3rd floor twin room. After refusing to accept room, and some delay, we were offered a 1st floor double room - after further discussions we were promised a higher room from 2nd night - we were moved to the 6th floor (top) for the rest of our stay :-D Be aware that restaurant food may be repeated over weekend - we were 1/2 board and Friday/Saturday evening meal was the same.

Review 24:Central location; rooms clean and presentable, tho a little dated.

Review 25:Car park we paid 30£ for oe night at the time of booking and when we got there next to the hotel there's a public paying carpark (breakfast we refused to pay 16£)are dear

Review 26:The location near everything friendly and helpful staff the room was spacious

Review 27:seperated toilet doesn't have it's own sink:)

Review 28:-The view of the beautiful mont blanc massif and the city -Location -huge room -seperated bathroom and toilet -staff were very nice

Review 29:Staff is rude. Airplane pillows are better. Smells of mildew. For that price I would expect at least soap in the bathroom. Checkin is at 16.00 don't even consider asking at 15.59!

Review 30:Location

Review 31:It's totally worn out. Nothing has been updated or repaired since it was build - in something that looks to be the 70s. Some tiles are even missing on my bathroom floor.

Review 32:Hotel very dated and in desperate need of a refurbishment. Reception staff not very friendly. Wifi only seems to work in reception, didn't work in my room.

Review 33:Great location, very central in Chamonix town.

Review 34:This hotel has the most inefficient check-in system I have ever encountered. In fact, I am not positive it was the system or the employees implementing it. I waited 25 minutes to check-in, with only one person in line before me. There were two men at the front desk and both seems utterly confused. They would take a guest's name, then look through some papers, then go to the computer, then ask your name again saying they can't find the reservation. Upon showing your printed reservation, with the same name as the passport you just handed them, they magically find your name on the computer. Then they dig back through a folder of paper, go back to the computer, then physically go up to the room to see if it is ready (this was an hour after check-in was allowed). Once they come back down, they either looked for an envelope or gave you a room key in a torn paper folder. After getting my keys, I asked if the baby bed had been put in the room. The answer was "normally, if not call housekeeping."Alas, there was no baby bed. Also, no list to know which number to call for housekeeping. But, it turned out not to matter, because the phone didn't work anyway. So, back down to the front desk where the queue was growing. After waiting another 20 minutes, the employee said he would put the bed in the room in a few minutes. Half an hour later we left the hotel and asked again the same man to put the bed in the room. He said housekeeping will do it, "normally." At that point we took bets on if there would be a crib when we got back. Luckily, there was. There was a mechanical shutter over the patio door which did not have enough power to maintain the shutter in one position. So, it was either down all the way, or up all the way. However, even up "all the way" it would sag back down to half-height. Very sad. I also paid 30 euros for parking, but the garage was very odd with random pillars and no signs.

Review 35:The location was great, just a few steps from the main street and next to a grocery store. I didn't see any bedbugs.

Review 36:It is tired and needs renovation / refurbishment. Much of the hotel was designed for uses that are not there any more. E.g. the area near reception - bar / pool / lounge area has been probably been popular in the past but now seems very neglected.

Review 37:The breakfast was good, if a little disorganised - we had to find someone to tell them our room number, my wife had trouble finding a full coffee jug, even after asking staff. The staff were very friendly. I can see that the rooms on the mountain side would have great views but as we were on the other side ours was average.

Review 38:Safe would not work, no technician available to make repairs!! Room was dated and in poor condition. No balcony and view from window was the back yard. Believe I was given a poor room as I was a single traveller, which should not effect choice or comfort. Too many dogs allowed in the rooms.

Review 39:Location was excellent. Nice bar area. Upper floor restaurant had great views. Clean room.

Review 40:upon arrival I noticed a fility smell which was coming from the toilets in the communal area by the bar, bear in mind the toilets are a level below you have got take steps down to it the stenge of urine was horrible. yes this is a 3* and I do enjoy my 5* + luxury but i was on a walking trip I had lodge with 30+ people at mountain refuges and im telling you th was better that service of than alpina! I would give Alpina a 1+* and 2 with some improvements. the hotel does kill the feel and culture of the chamonix valley, chomonix is beautiful if you are going there you need to feel its worth Alpina will give you the feeling of being in a really cheap hotel in birmingham, uk! really not worth it I had pre paid for my room as a late booking, I was asked why I had bokked a superior room and asked for a double bed, when I was single person, to be honest I would of rather saved a few quid but I had no choice that was the only option, but hey what was the guys issue I am paying for it!! horrible customer service.... noisy at night like with rowdy drunken teenagers outside the bars. my room the flush didnt work, the curtains didnt pull fully, there was noise and light from outside all night. I was in a balcony room, the french doors to the balcony was damaged, open of the door had a big heavy stopper against it and a table, I guess to stop it from opening! if you book this in the winter for ski season you will get draft. over all I would advice if you want a budget hotel book a family run 2* you will get a better service then alpina. late check in at 4pm!!

Review 41:this is very central, so its great for that , I booked this towards the end of trip after spending some time in geneva and mount blanc tour. just to spend some more time in chominix and have a spacious room to my self I totally regretted booking this upon arrival. my room was spacious, this was a superior room tho and after lodging for like 2 weeks I wanted some space.

Review 42:- There is no good view of the rooms on the back side of the hotel. - The key cards for the room all the time gave mistakes and we can not to unlock the door. - the room was very small - the mechanisms of windows were destroyed.

Review 43:- the place is in the center - the staff of the hotel - very kind - there is place to left baggage before check in and after check out

Review 44:Restaurant was really bad both Food and service and took breakfast at another hotel.

Review 45:View was fantastic on sixth floor. Lovely balcony to sit out on. Separating door to bathroom and toilet.

Review 46:The hallways and rooms need to be refurbished and updated. They look old and smell. Our toilet did not flush, and although we contacted the reception several times during the evening, nothing was done and we were told that no one would come in until 10am. We were forced to use the toilet near the breakfast area, and not ours. For this price, this was ridiculous.

Review 47:The location is great.

Review 48:The staff vere unhelpfull, old rooms, no bathroom accersories. Breakfest (17 euros/person) and paring (25 euros/day) was too expencive.

Review 49:The bed was O.K. Good location.

Review 50:Cheap on amenities. I asked for two shampoos for 3 days stay for two people in a room, but front desk said NO. There was only a tiny bottle of shampoo. As front desk suggested, I went to buy a bottle of conditioner and shampoo at the next door store. Half board was the only thing that was worth the money I paid.

Review 51:Dinner and restaurant staff were excellent.

Review 52:Very late check in at 5.00 pm as rooms were not ready. Noisy outside till almost 2:00 AM. Very hot and stuffy as there was no air-conditioner or fan in the room as there was a severe heat wave when we visited. With noise and heat could hardly sleep. Only BBC as English TV Channel.

Review 53:Location, Excellent View. Staff were friendly at Check In

Review 54:Room didn't have normal amenities of even a two star hotel. No hand towels--only a bath towel. No information in room how to contact front desk, housekeeping or anything else. 2nd time I have stayed there--this time for 3 days. I have never been able to get wifi to work on any device, not iPhone, iPad nor laptop. It says "youmust approve terms and conditions, but there is nowhere to do so. When I asked for staff help, they didn't know how to do it either.

Review 55:Great location in Chamonix. Easy to walk to from free parking. Close to all the great highlights of Chamonix.

Review 56:Hotel is dirty and uninviting; the location is perfect, but, no air conditioning in rooms necessitates windows open all night - therefore, sleep is disturbed by street noise and partyers. The hotel was really tatty and dirty.

Review 57:Thirty Euros for a night of parking in the garage is rather stiff.

Review 58:The hotel is right in the middle of the city. We had a room with a balcony that looked right at the Mont Blanc massif. That is its greatest feature: great location. Otherwise, it is a perfectly normal 3 star ski/sport hotel with neither a lot for nor a lot against it.

Review 59:Fridge doesn't work (apparently all the rooms feature non-functioning fridges). No hair dryer availabie.

Review 60:Fabulous location, beautiful views. Friendly and helpful staff. Comfy bed.

Review 61:The hotel was easy to find, we had a beautiful veiw of the glacier from our balcony. The rooms were very large. Therevwas a great bar lounge downstairs and a resturant upstarirs with fantastic veiws.

Review 62:i was kept awake all night until 5am both the Saturday and Sunday nights with people banging, partying and massive amounts of noise.

Review 63:the location is very central

Review 64:The restaurant has a fantastic view of the mountains but the menu on offer wasn't remotely close to the menu advertised around the hotel.

Review 65:Hotel is situated next to thme bus stop to the ski resorts.

Review 66:Only thing was the bar across the road played until 5am... bring ear plugs in case your room is on the street side

Review 67:Great location. Reception/downstairs bar area good for relaxing. Room clean and tidy with great view. Upstairs breakfast room has great view also, and breakfast had plenty of variety

Review 68:hotel is definitely not a 3star,incompetent staff, old hotel, broken things around, wifi very slow and horrible breakfast

Review 69:the only positive about the hotel is the location, very close to the main shop/restaurant/bar street

Review 70:Wifi was a pain logging in all the time and breakfast maybe should be inclusive for the price.

Review 71:Hotel is very nice, facilities and ski rental are good and handy. Spa was excellent although the jacuzzi was out of order. Close to bus stops for the ski lifts.

Review 72:The manager was rude and unhelpful, the windows wouldn't stay open, the sink plug didn't open to let the water out, the shower didn't work properly. No kettle to make tea/coffee. Had to log into the Wifi every 2/3 hours

Review 73:The location of the hotel is great and having the ability to rent the ski's from the hotel was good

Review 74:Being woke up during the night by staff member letting themselves in wanting to know who we were

Review 75:I cant say that there was anything good about this hotel

Review 76:Excellent location, near to the bars and slopes in equal measure. Staff were friendly and accommodating and responded promptly to questions and emails before we went, making it easy to arrange a holiday for 20 people and allowing us to check in early.

Review 77:Overbooked the first night so they put us in a sister hotel and moved our luggage the following day albeit they had asked us in advance.

Review 78:Warm hotel providing good value for money

Review 79:Staff could barely speak English. It took the receptionists a hood half hour to allocate me a room when I arrived. The room was very small, not very clean and wifi connection was the worst I've ever seen in any other hotel. Definitely not worth the price, other friends staid in other hotels close by and found much better value for money.

Review 80:Location was definitely the only positive point. A few minutes stroll from centre, next to a ski store and bus stop to the resort.

Review 81:No bad experience but hotel garage 30 euros you can park in underground public parking in front of hotel for 8 euros a night.

Review 82:Really liked the spaciousness of the room with large balcony and chairs on balcony and table and chairs in room so able to entertain friends. seperate landing with wc and good bath/shower, like a suite, great view of mont blanc. priced under £100

Review 83:Pillows but it wasn't too bad.

Review 84:Caroline and Flora were the most helpful people we could have asked for. Caroline in particular was great. Fantastic english, they even upgraded us on the night because we had missed our bus to the hotel. She was polite and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I can't speak highly enough of the place and the staff!

Review 85:I didn't like the room we were in as it was very dated. Our towels were more like dish cloths very small and frayed and thin. Horrible.

Review 86:The best part of our stay was the location of the hotel and the foyer which was welcoming.

Review 87:Too warm in the room overnight, unable to controll the temperature, pillows too hard(neck pain daily)

Review 88:Location of the resort, close to all shops and restaurants, ski bus, slopes

Review 89:Very small bedroom, bathroom needs ventilation as the smell is awful. Hotel needs updating badly

Review 90:Location of hotel, near to ski bus stop, ski hire shops and restaurants. Hotel bar area and spa is good

Review 91:I was located on the 3rd floor and our friends on the 5th. We were all kept awake at night and into the early hours (5am) by the heavy base music resonating through the hotel from a nightclub (not the hotels) located under the hotel. Staff were polite but the operation of them a bit of a shambles.

Review 92:Location was ideal and central to all areas.

Review 93:The room was not cleaind very well, there was still food in the room from previous guests. The staff on reception had very limited English. The bar staff however had good English. Seems strange that the front of house staff couldn't really communicate with us. we were not informed of anything when we checked in and when I asked questions the man didn't understand. The next day abother staff member checked In a couple in English and told them about the facilities, spa, saunA, access to slopes, ski rectal, tourist info etc....it was unfortunate we didn't get this experience.

Review 94:The location was good, staff who could speak English were friendly, the bed was clean and comfortable.

Review 95:Great views of Mont Blanc - during our stay the hotel was quiet at night and we slept well. Facilities were very clean - I would argue that it wasn't 'dated' (as stated in other reviews) so much as traditionally French - breakfasts were great. We perfected our pool game over the 4 days we were there! Helpful staff and ski hire from basement much better than poor service at Intersport!!

Review 96:We could not sleep as there was a very loud disco very near our room. We asked to move room but the staff said they were full. However we saw them selling rooms to others.

Review 97:The Jacuzzi was not working - one day the steam room and sauna also not working. The bath was small and the room and reception washroom facilities were a little scruffy with cracked tiles and hooks and things broken. Breakfast and other meals were comparatively expensive - we chose to eat out!

Review 98:Ideally situated, in the centre of the town, close to bars, shops, cafes etc and bus stop right outside. Staff were friendly and helpful. The room and lounge area were comfortable. Our room was in a quiet situation on the 5th floor, at the back of the hotel with fantastic view of the mountains. Lovely restaurant with panoramic views.

Review 99:Hotel needs updating in terms of decoration. Wi-if very poor, only available in key areas (reception) and slow

Review 100:Staff were very helpful, from reception, (local knowledge), the bar, restaurant (good food) to the chamber maids (clean romms). Central location, wth good access to shops and local amenities (snow train to glacier), Gondola for Mont Blanc veiws) Comfortable beds

Review 101:The Wifi within the hotel was utterly disappointing and would frequently drop out.

Review 102:The location was probably a plus, close to restaurants and bars and well connected to the local buses. We were fortunate to be given a room upgrade on account of us being on our honeymoon.

Review 103:The rooms need a face lift looking tired and dated .

Review 104:Location was great staff were helpful and friendly, ski hire was good to have in hotel, spa again was good.

Review 105:Shower head was loose so had to be held by hand.

Review 106:Good location but we only used our room and not any of the other facilities so can't comment on them.

Review 107:- Wifi difficult to connect - Rooms keys had to be recoded a few times before working

Review 108:- Town centre location - Ski bus across from front door - Short walk to get button lift to Brevent gondola

Review 109:Staff apparently always too busy or indifferent about talking to you. No jug to heat up the water for a cup of coffee in the bedroom. We requested one, first got told they did not have them, then that they had them but had all been given out and was told to go get a hot cup of water from the bar whenever we needed one. We had to suggest that they should put us on a list so that we would get one as soon as one became available, which amazingly they thought it was a good idea. We did eventually get one but only after being seen walking from the bar, up the elevator carrying cups of hot water to our bedroom.

Review 110:Good location for skiing with free shuttle bus just outside the front door. Large, clean hotel with small room but great views from balcony.

Review 111:Many facilities are there, but in poor quality. Insufficient lockers in skiroom, therefore had to store on room. Wifi connection is terrible. Bed has very old fashioned sheets, which are not comfortable and is quite small.

Review 112:Excellent location in Chamonix

Review 113:Carpets are worn out and I didn't like the room décor as it is too dated and looked tired. Property badly in need of a major overhaul/renovation.

Review 114:Location is close to the train station and the main shopping street. Clean bedsheets and towels.

Review 115:The bathroom was awkwardly small. The rooms need to be updated. Our room key did not work - went to lobby 5 times before we finally got a working room key to get into our room.

Review 116:The lobby and lounge areas was nicely decorated and attractive. The location as awesome.

Review 117:Room was fairly small and a lack of heating controls in the room was disappointing, but for the price these were minor complaints.

Review 118:The location of as fantastic with the ski bus leaving from the front door and all the bars and restaurants on your doorstep.

Review 119:There is no room service to bring food or even cup of coffee, no one takes the luggage to the room or out the room checking and check out.

Review 120:The location and the view only

Review 121:Double bed was very small, with sheets and blankets rather than duvet. Window lock was broken & wardrobe door fell off it's runners.

Review 122:Location Breakfast

Review 123:Now a little dated Poor wifi connection speed Rooms can be over hot but a balcony

Review 124:Good location Great elevated views Nice size Mont Blanc facing rooms Bar and reception area great Just rent your skis and boots from the basement area Italian restaurant next door great

Review 125:Dated, deco of hotel feels 70'ish.

Review 126:Location is good. 1 particular staff from ski rental at hotel was superbly helpful, he is English. My mistake I didn't get his name to recommend on this website.

Review 127:My single room was at back of hotel, no balcony. Bed very uncomfortable, and useless shower, which needed to be hand held, as fixing wouldn't angle shower head. Corridor outside room smelt of cigarette smoke.

Review 128:Helpful reception staff and good central location. I didn't use the panoramic restaurant, but it did look like it had good views.

Review 129:Charged 30euros per night for car in garage, on arrival before receptionist noticed this, offered parking for 15 euros per night, not amused by this! Wifi a joke! Difficult to log on then logged you off when it seemed to feel like it, no coffee or tea in room, fridge in room but empty! Decor looks dated and needing upgraded. Holes in the curtains! In all not a memorable hotel to visit, sorry!

Review 130:Everything in the room was dated and the bed was old and bit uncomfortable. Modern furnishings and a bit of a makeover will do the trick.

Review 131:Location is good and staff friendly.

Review 132:The restaurant wasn't open for dinner as the hotel was quiet

Review 133:Estelle on reception - very friendly and helpful Great location and car park very helpful

Review 134:The WiFi system was unnecessarily complicated and was hard to work with, especially on mobile devices.

Review 135:The location is excellent and the view we had from our room was stunning. While the hotel seems older, the room was clean and overall in good shape.

Review 136:I liked it all very much. The decor is a little dated.

Review 137:Excellent central location, large room and balcony with mountain view, very friendly staff, big bath and lots of hot water!!

Review 138:Wifi coverage was often not strong enough signal to get emails. Also very patchy. We paid €16 each for breakfast one morning and we came down at about 930 to find there was no hot food left and no more being made. If we pay that much it shouldn't matter how late we are we should still have the same choice as everyone who came earlier!!!!!

Review 139:The room and the view was amazing. reception staff very helpful.
