Reviews for Hôtel Les Ursulines
Review 1:I don't know why they put the toilet in a separate remote room from the shower and sink.
Review 2:Rooms were very modern and comfortable. There is underground parking available. Location was very good, and had a few good restaurants within walking distance
Review 3:all interior badly needs refurbishment shower splashes entire bad room they say to be 4 stars, but is really 3 or even 2
Review 4:nice location with great view
Review 5:Excellent position to explore older part of town but rooms probably need a make over. Staff may have been having a bad day but there were at best business like and at worst disinterested.
Review 6:Would be nice if they encourage more use of the lovely outside grounds
Review 7:Position to old town centre Excellent dinner in the restaurant and friendly staff Nice room decor
Review 8:no air-conditioning in room. Poor shower facility. Restaurant refused our request to dine outside when weather was fine.
Review 9:Location. Very comfortable large bed
Review 10:Some staff were far from friendly - maybe they were not comfortable speaking English, but a smile and acknowledgement of our presence would have helped. No lift to our floor. Chipped crockery in breakfast room.
Review 11:Occasional positive response from staff
Review 12:Quite pricy for a hotel that is in need of a renovation in a number of respects (our terrace was barely safe)
Review 13:Great location, amazing view, great restaurant, friendly staff
Review 14:We forgot to mention this, but the Wifi didn't extend to the room we had. Bed rated middling because of quality of pillows. It was a bit odd that the bedroom was provided with plastic goblets rather than real glasses.
Review 15:Nothing.
Review 16:Wonderful location with peaceful gardens to relax in. Would be a great place to bring your secretary. Very friendly staff and good food. Secure parking on site.
Review 17:The hotel is being gradually renovated, but the effort is a hotchpotch without a central theme. The restaurant is highly rated, but we found it very poor; our (3) scallops were served on a bed of parboiled unsalted grated carrots. The garage is a messy cellar. The surrounding town was depressing (in May) and gave, like the hotel, the impression of being in decline.
Review 18:The hotel has an excellent location and substantial potential. The garden could be lovely and the view is magnificent. Our room (106) was excellent, newly-modernized and clean.
Review 19:Was one of the more expensive nights on our four week tour of Europe. Room was in need of renovating to match price charged compared to many others we experienced on this trip.
Review 20:Nice location on the hill near the cathedral.
Review 21:First class service from friendly staff. Room was clean and very comfortable. Resturant was excellent for both food and service. I stay in at least 30 different hotels globally per year and this hotel is one of the best.
Review 22:Internet ad lead us to believe we would have a lovely room in an old nunnery. Instead, we were given a room that had not been updated and that was furnished in "50s"-style mismatched bed/chairs, etc.. The couple of towels in bathroom were old and ragged. Prices for a glass of wine double that of in town a few blocks away.
Review 23:Close proximity to old town of Autun (walking distance) and cathedral
Review 24:Bed too big for bedroom as it took up most of the space of room. The bathroom was tucked in under low eaves making use of basin tricky.
Review 25:Breakfast location in town
Review 26:Room and public areas were tired and not clean. Many signs of dilapidation requiring new investment by the owners, with a list of promises for improvement reading like excuses. Management and staff exhibited little effort to welcome us, and possibly make up for the hotel's shortcomings.
Review 27:bed was clean and comfortable
Review 28:The corridors were narrow and dark, but it is an old convent, this might be expected. If you knew to hit the light switches on the walls, you could see where you were going.
Review 29:It was very quiet, clean and in a beautiful location. We had an exceptional dinner at the restaurant looking out over the gardens. The room was spacious (for France) and filled with light. We looked out through ivy- surrounded windows to the old Roman walls and the surrounding hills.
Review 30:Room dusty and holes in walls, breakfast facilities ie breakfast room like a school dining hall and used as a through way for guest rooms, breakfast choice and quality poor, coffee from an urn! (Terrible quality) - definitely not worth the cost.
Review 31:Location, comfort of bed, reception staff, secure parking.
Review 32:Paying for hotel parking and restaurant prices were expensive with others in locality
Review 33:The building, the location, the staff , proximity to cathedral and museum. There are wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Our bedroom was very pretty and comfortable
Review 34:Attic room was cramped, no milk cartons for coffee machine, door lock failed (receptionist had to take off the electronic key unit and replace the batteries). Obviously not the first time that she had had to do that as she had screwdriver and new batteries ready behind the desk. No extractor in the bathroom.
Review 35:Location near the cathedral and the old part of Autun. Secure car parking but the entrance ramp is very steep, particularly if on a motorbike.
Review 36:The hotel has deteriorated terribly in the last decade. The food that was great is now very poor. Service in the restaurant has declined. Bedrooms stank of smoking although it is banned. A sadreturn visit that will not be repeated.
Review 37:The location
Review 38:Ate at the restaurant, really bad. Make pretence to be a high quality restaurant but they knew nothing of quality cooking.
Review 39:Beautiful house and surroundings, ok value for money.
Review 40:Restaurant on the expensive side -but did enjoy the food.
Review 41:Room better than expected-A/c and lots of power points. Great view from the room and terrace in the evening of thunderstorms over the Morvan
Review 42:Dinner in the restaurant although served with a lot of "chi-chi" was mediocre.
Review 43:Beautiful setting in the middle of the historic old town of Autun which is well worth a visit. Lovely courtyard garden at the other side of the hotel/restaurant with country views where you can sit outside for your meal. Breakfast was O.K. although some fresh fruit salad would have been appreciated. Dogs are welcome.
Review 44:Small room withouten a view
Review 45:Big bed
Review 46:first class venue close to the centre near the Cathedral - normally out of our price bracket but we had a special deal
Review 47:Room cramped, no aircon, uncomfortable bed
Review 48:Excellent restaurant with superb food
Review 49:Std room was very small and bathroom very basic and dated. Bar did not have basic beer. Hot breakfast sparse in the extreme!
Review 50:Location and views.
Review 51:Stunning venue
Review 52:Front desk staff were rude and ignorant.
Review 53:Polar ion and dinner on the Terrace.
Review 54:Seemed very tired. Institutional. Needs a bit more love.
Review 55:Location
Review 56:The WiFi too slow to be useful.
Review 57:Nice and calm!
Review 58:you could not shower had to sit in the bathtub. No ventilation in the bathroom.
Review 59:location, the building
Review 60:The hotel is perfeclty situated in the center of Autun, you can walk the city. The quiet of the room
Review 61:more updating required and attention to cleaning
Review 62:Very good location in the town
Review 63:Helpful and courteous staff that speaks English. Autun is a beautiful town to visit. Our 3 days there were super.
Review 64:The hotel was friendly and comfortable but a bit stiff, especially the restaurant - a little bit living in a monastery - but nice
Review 65:Stunning views and garden
Review 66:Very poor service at the restaurant: We had to search for our waiter and were able to place an order only after 30 minutes of waiting. The first course of our three-meals course was then served after an hour. When we complained about the slow service, we were told that there was not sufficient staff, but guests usually would enjoy the beautiful view while waiting. Our three-course meal lasted almost 4 hours. We had hoped to enjoy breakfast in the beautiful garden. Instead, the breakfast buffet was installed in a room without view. The restaurant staff clearly needs to develop a customer orientation.
Review 67:Excellent location: very quiet and beautiful view Nice rooms with a marvellous garden view, though not very spacious. Fine and innovative cuisine
Review 68:No shampoo or shower gel Problems with the A/C Breakfast (and especially the coffee) could be improved.
Review 69:Really nice old building, close to the cathedral and with a wonderful view. Delicious food in the restaurant.
Review 70:We stayed at Les Ursulines twice in May-June 2014. The first time we were in room 236 which is large, with room to spread out. It is light and airy and everything worked. It was so good that we decided to book into Les Ursulines on our return trip. This time we were put into room 206 which is small, cramped, dark and inconvenient. There is hardly room to walk around the bed, one of the lights didn't work and the shower is very inconvenient. Our advice is to avoid rooms 201 to 209 (although I have only looked into three of them) and go for rooms starting 236. They are all the same price. The restaurant is good although the service is a little slow. The staff are excellent: The only let-down is, as I have said, the cramped rooms around 206. Otherwise it is a very pleasant hotel to stay in.
Review 71:WiFi did not work in our room; we had to go downstairs two floors to the reception to be connected. When we arrived the bathroom wasn't clean; we had to complain to get it properly cleaned
Review 72:Restaurant was excellent Location was superb
Review 73:Narrow corridors, need to be redone. Breakfast could be better, is served in an uncomfortable room, whereas they have a nice restaurant.
Review 74:Location Nice room
Review 75:Room seem to been part updated...some furnishings were a bit"tired" and we were aware of building works in progress.Breakfast was very ordinary and was overpriced at 12 euros.
Review 76:Lovely building in a really interesting historic small city full ofgreat restaurants. Within a stone's-throw of the marvellousCathedral.
Review 77:The room was in need of refurbishment. I think rooms are being renovated but perhaps some guests get the short straw. We were only there for one night and had dinner in the square by the Cathedral, leaving reasonably early the following day.
Review 78:The wonderful view, the fresh air, the short walk to the Cathedral and historic area.
Review 79:Tiny shower, though rooms are being upgraded and maybe we got an older one.
Review 80:Easy to find if you followed the signs, delightful location and with air conditioning in rooms. Handy for local bars and restaurants if you chose not to eat in. Lovely peaceful and calm atmosphere
Review 81:Access with a car is challenging and unless you drag your luggage half a mile up hill you have no option but to use the 7 Euro undergound car park. The staff were rude when challenged about the room not matching the website description - Pokey loft room with no AC and a window which would not open more than 4 inches. This was not a 3 star French hotel!
Review 82:Autun is a lovelly town, the location of the hotel is nice and the gardens are nice
Review 83:A small room, especially considering the high price, with a fairly down market bathroom and poor shower. The smell of stale cooking came through from somewhere (which was odd because we were miles from the kitchens) so we had to open the windows on a very cold night. Should be cheaper until refurbished.
Review 84:A lovely setting in a very special town. When refurbished this will be a super place to stay, with its gracious public spaces and grand views. A fine upmarket restaurant with good service, convenient parking and pleasant staff with excellent English.
Review 85:Despite having a refurbishment programme in place, the bedrooms were very basic and our first room was tiny and expensive compared with other hotels we have stayed in. The toilet roll holder needs relocating. Baths with fixed wall showers - or just showers should be considered when refurbishing the bathrooms. Felt pads underneath the chairs in the breakfast area - these are very heavy and noisy when people get up to choose their food.
Review 86:Hotel staff were excellent and friendly very helpful when resolving the problem with our room. Made us feel extremely welcome. Good command of English - when our French became limited. Public rooms very good decor. Good location for old town.
Review 87:Very tired fittings inside + horrible mix of antique and kitch items inthe rooms.Garage closes at a certain time at night. Orange juice from concentrate for breakfast is quite bad, really (just buy some Tropicana, if you really struggle to squeeze a few oranges!). Horribly expesnive for what it is. I would pay max 50% of what I paid for that hotel.
Review 88:Great location in an old village full of charme.Nice building (from the outside). Great jams for breakfast.
Review 89:It's a shame the furniture was so basic and cheap. It was as if somebody had gone to a jumble sale and brought a lot if second hand furniture. There was a lot of restoration work going on too.Our room was right next to a closed off corridor where a drill was going.
Review 90:The location and the history of the hotel was amazing. The staff, service and the food and restaurant were excellent.
Review 91:The hotel was being rennovated -- public spaces, carpets, etc. were worn and construction dust, etc. a liability.
Review 92:Good location next to the cathedral with very helpful staff.
Review 93:The hotel is in dire need of renovation (they are working on that):old fashioned furniture (not antique or even antique-looking, justplain old), electrical outlets leave their sockets, airconditiongrills hang askew, tileseams are dark, lampshades are frazzled. Whenentering the restaurant you will be left alone, standing there like anidiot. After a while a waiter asks for your room number and hedisappears without a word to do whatever in the next room. Again youstand alone in the restaurant. Finally being seated you get the menu. For 25 minutes nothing happens, not even the offer of a glass ofwater. Three waiters pretend to be very busy, studying papers andrunning back and forth doing nothing. Only eight tables were occupied,so that might have been a good ratio for three waiters. We were aboutto leave without ordering when finally one waiter came over. Noapologies, of course. Even though the food was fine: they've got nostyle, visit any restaurant nearby instead!
Review 94:Nice area, parking in the house (for a fee). Reception and cleaningstaff very friendly. In the restaurant the waiter (from Holland?) isfriendly and efficient. Hope for the best that he may serve you.
Review 95:The beds are of poor quality and over due. I have not been able to sleepthrough the night due to a much too hard bed. In the minibar the beercan was over due!
Review 96:The only good thing about this hotel is the food, which is of goodquality but unreasonably high priced!
Review 97:No beer brun. Scrambled eggs were poor, sausages not very nice (lumps of bone in them)
Review 98:Views were great, food was lovely, stAff very helpful.
Review 99:Location above the ramparts of the Roman walls of Autun
Review 100:Unreliable wifi
Review 101:The location of the hotel makes it like a hidden secret - a special one.
Review 102:Lack of food shops in town centre.
Review 103:The location.
Review 104:Everything was perfect!
Review 105:air cooling
Review 106:environment style
Review 107:BUilding and garden are quite nice and cozy. Location is convenient for visiting Saint Lazarre and musee Rolin.
Review 108:Historic old city setting - with garaging! Helpful staff - excellentfood. Very good value.
Review 109:Construction
