Reviews for La Bastide Saint Martin
Review 1:Provision of a kettle was brilliant but came with paper cups, a plastic stick (spoon) and 2 x sachets of coffee. I appreciate this is a very British requirement and unusual to find in a French hotel so I was just pleased to have a coffee in bed. I had read earlier reviews so was very aware of the limited choice of arrangements for dinner. As a solo female traveller I did not want to walk out after dark to the local restaurant so ensured I had drinks and snacks with me. The breakfast had very limited choice but was of good quality. As a diabetic I find the continental breakfast has too much sugar and bread so is not best for me. I began to crave eggs and mushrooms! The taxi to Trebes was charged from Carcassonne, not the hotel so an additional 10 euros. I hadn't stayed in the French countryside before so I guess this is how it is.
Review 2:After travelling by train across France and staying in various towns, cities and hotels I needed a bit of luxurious peace and quiet and this was perfect. Friendly welcome. Lots of really nice touches eg wrapped chocolate on the towels, lavender smells, bath oils and lotions, vanity kit. The countryside views were lovely. Long soaks in hot bath, underfloor heating, comfortable bed and everything spotlessly clean. I stayed 2 x nights. A real pamper.
Review 3:Very comfortable bed and rooms with delightful and helpful management . We had a car so being a couple of kilometres away from Carcassonne was no problem. It was quiet and very relaxing. Shame we were unable to use their lovely pool area as it had gotten too cold.
Review 4:Booked this hotel as it advertised rooms with air conditioning. On check-in, the innkeeper (Mr. Rey) indicated the A/C was not on because the nights were cool. At 3:00 am the temperature in the room was 26º C (80º F) and opening the window filled the room with bugs (no screen). Tried the A/C but just the fan would come on. Complaint to the owners in the morning and they did not charge us for the room but shrugged off the thought that it should be up to the guests if the want A/C or not regardless of the time of the year.
Review 5:Large pastoral maison on beautiful grounds, near la cité (if you are driving).
Review 6:Beautifully presented hotel just outside Carcassonne. Very friendly. Unfortunately we were only there for one night on our way back from the south so were unable to appreciate it fully. Wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.
Review 7:There are two staff members, husband and wife I assume. While the husband is a very nice and kind man and also very helpful, the woman is very rude and unkind. Typical French. She doesn't know how to accept a client opinion either. Too bad
Review 8:The location is very nice, lovely setting and area. Close to the town.
Review 9:The location is just a little away from the restaurants and tourist Attraction. Not far but just enough that you will need a car.
Review 10:This was a family run hotel and they did a very fine job. The place was very clean and in a nice neighborhood.
Review 11:Nothing!
Review 12:Peaceful setting a few minutes drive away from the crowds in Carcassonne. Welcoming hosts. Clean, comfortable, lovely pool area and path through garden to the chateau restaurant next door where we had an excellent meal.
Review 13:Not a complaint but a small fridge and a kettle in the bedroom would have been a very welcome addition.
Review 14:The hotel was of a very high quality, cool and quiet. Francine and Phillippe were extremely helpful and friendly. The pool area was very welcome after at the end of the day.
Review 15:If the next door restaraunt was shut there was nothing to eat
Review 16:Lovely restaraunt next door otherwise to far out from anywhere but it was fantastic food if a little pricey. Pool area and hotel lovely
Review 17:Nothing
Review 18:We loved staying here. We were close to Carcassonne - so we were able to visit as much as we wanted - but we also used it as a base to visit many other parts of the region. We wish we could have stayed longer. Philippe and Francine are perfect hosts and they have a lovely facility.
Review 19:would have been better if we had a car as we used bus transport and taxis but this is no reflection on the hotel or its staff as they couldn't do enough for us. Everyone was so lovely and made our stay fantastic.
Review 20:Friendly and knowledgable staff nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast really substantial and excellent value for money. Pool area relaxing and really clean a great place to chill out and read a book in amazing surroundings.
Review 21:The setting is lovely but car travel is required for everything except a visit to the adjacent restaurant. The shower attachment on the bath was effective but there was nowhere to hook it whilst showering
Review 22:Clean, beautifully maintained property in a very nice setting, adjacent to a stunning chateaux which is also happily a very nice restaurant. The staff, particularly the owner, are very welcoming, friendly and informative
Review 23:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 24:We liked everything about this hotel. We wished we could have stayed longer. This hotel was far better than a 3 or 4 star chain hotel. It is a bit outside Carcassonne but it only takes 10 min. With the car.
Review 25:No local place to eat .. so the driver could not drink and relax ! cost of the breakfast was just too much so did not have it ... you can get a three course meal, wine and water in Spain for the cost of one person having breakfast.
Review 26:A beautiful small hotel, immaculately clean, with the smell of French lavender throughout. It is a quiet retreat from busy Carcassonne, which is only an eight minute drive away. The small pool is unheated but very refreshing in the summer heat. We had it to ourselves for a couple of hours one day, bliss!
Review 27:There was nowhere to eat close by as the restaurent next door was closed. The drive to the Cité was easy, but there was absolutely nowhere to park. Public transport was impossible
Review 28:The hotel was small and comfortable with a lovely pool and great hosts. We stayed here with the prime objective of visiting the Cité.
Review 29:could have done with water or tea/coffee in the room
Review 30:Comfortable small hotel with good parking. Very friendly and helpful owners. Excellent breakfast
Review 31:The hotel was very well appointed and the room was very comfortable as it had air conditioning. The staff were helpful and supportive of our attempts to communicate in French. Pool was clean and enjoyable. It was near to Carcassonne.
Review 32:This hotel far exceeded our expectations. It was quiet, clean and comfortable. The bed was the best hotel bed I have ever slept in. The hosts were charming and helpful.excellent value for money.
Review 33:Beautiful small guest house set amongst sunflower fields.Lovely rooms( even lavender scented towels).Helpful hosts and even a swimming pool.Very handy for Carcassone.
Review 34:Really lovely people running the hotel. It was good to be slightly outside of the town in the heat of July this year. It did not matter that there was no evening meal as the hotel is in the grounds of a chateau restaurant that was very good.
Review 35:The staff were excellent. The hotel is pretty standard but it was a good standard. Breakfast was good, the room was good and the facilities were good.
Review 36:Nothing bad to say
Review 37:The owners we charming and helpful. The location was ann oasis of calm away from bustling Carcassonne but only a 5 minute drive to the old city.
Review 38:Located just outside of very interesting town with lots of tourist sights. The medieval city is a must and the restaurants around the plaza are very nice. Our room at La Bastide Saint Martin was very comfortable , quite and clean. We arrived during a heatwave in France so, the pool was a real treat. We didn't eat at the hotel only because we preferred to eat and walk around the town. We did enjoy the best breakfast we have had in France at La Bastide. ( they were the freshest croissants ever)Owners were very friendly and very welcoming. Would def recommend this hotel
Review 39:My wife and I were looking for a base from which to visit Carcassonne and the region for a few days, and we were happy to trade being a short drive from the old city in exchange for a peaceful location. La Bastide was exactly what we were after. After a day spent wandering the Cathar ruins and taking in the superb history of this area, we'd return to chill by the pool for a couple of hours before venturing out again for dinner. As La Bastide is only a 10 minute drive from the old city, it was never an issue to scoot back to the hotel for some R&R before the next hike/boat trip/meal. The hosts were patient and knowledgeable; they were able to suggest restaurants and itineraries based on their own experience, and the hotel stocks a broad array of informative material on local sights and activities. We stayed for three days and nights, and our only regret was not spending another couple of days here. Stoked.
Review 40:Nothing to dislike.
Review 41:The owners are very friendly, nothing is too much trouble, breakfast is lovely, the hotel is very quiet and beautiful and the pool is gorgeous.
Review 42:Nothing bad whatsoever
Review 43:Wonderful room with direct access to garden and pool, staff very helpful with great recommendations for restaurants and city sights
Review 44:Only a bathroom mirror. Breakfast was a disappointment, considering the very high standard of the hotel & pricey for its limited content. Yes there was lovely fresh bread & croissants but cheese pre-sliced & pre-wrapped! And no local charcuterie - a missed opportunity indeed.
Review 45:For us, not bent in the centre of Carcassonne was a bonus. The hotel is so close but allows tranquility too. Very clean & comfortable, peaceful room. Pool area & grounds delightful. Our hosts were very friendly & helpful.
Review 46:Pool was too cold to use. I think the hotel/B&B was probably a little overpriced considering the location, lack of heated pool and the price of other similar places stayed at during our trip.
Review 47:Lovely pool area. Pristine clean rooms. Made to feel very welcome by the host and hostess.
Review 48:no negatives at all
Review 49:The hotel was great as was the nearby restaurant. We experience a serious rental car failure after checking out and the proprietor was so supportive and concerned to do all he could to help resolve our problem, making numerous calls on our behalf, and dealing with all the translation issues over an extended period whilst to car hire company tried to get us a replacement vehicle, on a bank holiday weekend. I cannot thank him enough, and this attitude of total customer care was evident throughout the establishment.
Review 50:Location wasn't great, had to get in the car to go to the old city.
Review 51:Phillippe was a wonderful host, very friendly and helpful. The restaurant next door was to die for, French fine dining but not too expensive on Sydney standards.
Review 52:When working wi fi was good it tended to drop off on my floor.
Review 53:Access to historical city. Tranquility of property. Owner manager very helpful, less than ten minutes to parking lot of old city.
Review 54:For the price, the breakfast was not so special. They could do better.
Review 55:I liked the hotel, the owners, the location (although it required a drive to the old city. Classy in every way.
Review 56:Nothing but you need a car to access Carcassonne.
Review 57:The owners Francine & Philippe were wonderful & gracious. They assisted us in every way possible with directions, restaurants and other traveller tips. The large rooms were spotless and modern & one could get a good nights sleep. The common areas were fresh & bright with pool & beautiful grounds. The continental breakfast reasonably priced was excellent. Parking was a breeze! A Great Four Night Stay!
Review 58:We were made to feel very welcome from the moment we arrived with excellent help with local maps and directions. Highly recommend this hotel will definitely be coming back.
Review 59:No restaurant and in the middle of nowhere. We had room No 1 with a window on the garden/pool and had to keep curtains closed for privacy.
Review 60:The house, the south facing pool, the staff, the garden. We loved it. Arrived at 5pm after a long journey, went in the pool and sunbathed in the evening sun, bliss!
Review 61:Light bright rooms, nice pool, air conditioning. Grounds to walk in, easy to access after night out. Good continental breakfast with lovely fresh bread and croissants. Garden to sit out in, with some shade.
Review 62:It does not have a restaurant for evening meals, but it's a short drive into Carcassonne which has many restaurants. Really there is nothing about this hotel that I didn't like.
Review 63:The physical comfort. The tranquility. The warmth and helpfulness of the family who run the place. The pool and the grounds. Ample parking on site.
Review 64:Tea making facilities would have been welcomed but not essential as early breakfast is always available.
Review 65:Extremely friendly and helpful Owners, Hotel environment, Pool, Bed-Room, Cleanliness, Day-time service, Peacefulness, and a perfect hotel for seeing the Castles and Chateau's of the Cathar region with stupendous scenery.
Review 66:The Madame was very disagreeable on a couple of occasions....grumpy and somewhat rude. Never a smile! She would not allow a cup of coffee in the room, yelled at children....not good for business
Review 67:The Monsieur was very welcoming and warm, the pool area great for afternoons, the rooms were minimum, small with no amenities. The place is a 10 min ride from Carcassone, so s break from the crowds.
Review 68:I would have expected more choices at breakfast (different breads/toasts, scrambled eggs, bacon, etc.). Room (011) was OK but only one lamp bulb in the ceiling made razing very difficult, there should be several light sources around the wash basin. If I remember right, there was no fridge, that I would expect from a three star hotel. Surprisingly no English speaking TV channel.
Review 69:A nice hotel with friendly owners. One good restaurant next door, but if staying several nights one needs to go to Carcassonne (which means max one glass of wine) and tiring if a long stay.
Review 70:Bikes for rental - should be complementary.
Review 71:Genuine and efficient welcome. Feels like a luxury experience at a reasonable price. Excellent facility, immaculately presented. Nice pool.
Review 72:No heated pool. So very very cold. No evening food. No fridge to keep water . No drink making facilities in the room. Very average choice for breakfast. Our room was nice but the bathroom was not 4 star there was a very low bath for a child or elderly person, no shower. There is nowhere to eat locally you have to drive to Carcassonne or another village. Very near a noisy roAd. This is ok for a one night stay but not suitable for any longer.
Review 73:The house
Review 74:Great garden, including the pool area. Friendly, accomodating owners. Location at five minutes drive from the old town of Carcassonne (would probably not be a good idea to stay here if you didn't have a car).
Review 75:Nothing really but it would have been nice if they had served evening meals as it was a drive into Carcasonne and we were quite tired. As it turned out there was a vibrant and exciting feel to Carcasonne at night and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Review 76:This was a lovely hotel with a really nice pool set in beautiful gardens. There was a wonderful smell of lavender throughout the public rooms. The owner was exceptional and could not have been more helpful. Definitely my favourite hotel of our holiday.
Review 77:The hotel is quite some way out of Carcassone - you need to drive there and we were hoping to be able to walk. There is no restaurant at the hotel, although there is one very nearby.
Review 78:Lovely hotel surroundings Large, high quality swimming pool with good terrace Immaculate room Friendly staff
Review 79:This hotel is a great place for a very relaxing stay. There is a beautiful garden with a nice pool and a big prívate parking. The owners are very kind and helpful, they take care of all the details and we will be pleased to be their guests again.
Review 80:Nothing really - only recommendation would be a shower head holder but that's pretty minor.
Review 81:Lovely room and facilities. Staff were so friendly and helpful and the restaurant next door was delicious! Wish we had been able to stay longer.
Review 82:A lovely small family run hotel in nice setting with an excellent swimming pool. Monsieur and Madame were very welcoming and very helpful if you needed any information. Clean and comfortable rooms and excellent bathroom.Would highly recommend and certainly stay there again if in the area.
Review 83:Nothing really, perhaps it was a little too quiet e.g. There is no bar area, drinks have to be ordered from the reception desk.
Review 84:Very quiet, lovely pool. Simple but good breakfast. Large room and large bathroom even though it was the cheapest one. Very helpful and pleasant staff. Large secure car park and garden. Small but very comfortable lounge area. Location is Just a short drive from the centre of town where there are many car parks.
Review 85:Friendliness Service minded Lavendel smelling room Private and safe parking (ideal for car travellers) The owner knows which restaurants to go to (he has a good taste).
Review 86:nothing
Review 87:The hotel had a wonderful calming atmosphere as soon as you walked in the smell of lavender was wonderful. The staff were very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. breakfast by the pool was excellent value. The drive to the city was 5 mins ask for directions at reception will save you lots of time. when driving to hotel head fo hospital signs then you will pick up signs for the hotel.
Review 88:The gardens are extensive and attractive but the lawns had not been mown for a while. Thought the grass was a bit messy especially around the pool area.
Review 89:Room was very clean and well appointed.. Bed the most comfortable during our 4 week trip.. Breakfast very good .. No eggs but excellent buttery croissants. Pool was pleasant but extremely shallow... Don't dive in!!
Review 90:Our particular room faced teh pool on teh ground floor and no blinds so not that private if you wanted light in the room!
Review 91:Staff couldn't have been more helpful, and a lovely pool and breakfast by it!
Review 92:* It would have been nice to have a small fridge in the room *not possible to have drinks in the evening (in combination with having no fridge = Always have to go outside the hotel to drink something cool) * lack of a real , seperate private terrasse *wifi didn't work
Review 93:* friendly& very helpfull staff *good breakfast (open air or in a nice breakfast area), allthough a bit of meat or fresh cheese would have been nice. *clean rooms (cleaned every day+new towels) *nice , big garden (possibility to be in the shadow if it was a really hot day) *nice swimming pool *close to the city of Carcassonne
Review 94:We had a view across the countryside to the historic city of Carcassone. Lovely airy room and bathroom (traingular tub) with tiled floors. Super pool, garden and parking.
Review 95:There was no hook for the shower so you have to hold it.
Review 96:Really lovely and friendly staff. Fantastic pool and garden. Free parking on site. Good wifi. Delicious breakfast.
Review 97:It was further out then I hoped.
Review 98:Comfortable room and beds. Nice toiletries, good shower, friendly and helpful staff. Safe, quiet area
Review 99:The staff could not have been nicer!
Review 100:Hard to find after sunset, Same name restaurant confusing.
Review 101:Cleanliness was top-notch; it was spotless. The owners were friendly, informative, and accommodating.
Review 102:Rooms not big and bathroom looks cheap for an hotel like that !
Review 103:nice place , reception and environment.
Review 104:A really quiet place, well-comunicated with Carcassone. The attention of the staff is really nice and considerated.
Review 105:How friendly the hosts were and made us feel so welcome
Review 106:Good value, clean and comfortable. Staff very helpful assisting with translating French into English for another forward booking.
Review 107:There was nothing to dislike!
Review 108:Everything about the stay and the hotel was excellent.
Review 109:staff is nice, room is nice, parking is convenient, we like everything there.
