Reviews for Five Princes Hotel

Review 1:The ceiling fan in the master bedroom was no longer attached by its bracket but was suspended from the ceiling by its wiring. Still worked though, but did kind of wonder if it was going to drop and chop us to pieces in our sleep. But it didn't.

Review 2:The restaurant was excellent quality food and the accommodation was spacious and relatively well appointed. Other guests were quiet and mainly travelling on international business. There was a very pleasant colonial ambience about the property.

Review 3:The family atmosphere of the hotel is a nice change from the all too common standardized hotels. The dedicated staff treat guests with warmth and genuine friendliness.

Review 4:Five Princess Hotel is a bit different from other hotels especially chain hotels. It’s like a small home away from home. In fact, the major assets of this hotel are its staff and its food. The few staff which run the hotel together with its owner are very friendly and always ready to assist, and after a few days they become like family. The hotel’s kitchen is small and run by a few different Fijian ladies but the food they prepare is undoubtedly the best I found in Suva.

Review 5:Unfortunately at night the neighbourhood has barking dogs.

Review 6:The staff were excellent and obliging and left the restaurant open for us even though we arrived very late in the evening. I would stay here again. We stayed in a 2 bed villa and couldn't fault it.

Review 7:The staff here wasn't as friendly as other places we stayed on Fiji. No specific bad experiences but it just didn't feel as welcoming as other places.

Review 8:Nice location. Nice facility

Review 9:No food outlets close but cost of taxis are cheap so not a major issue. Internet bit slow in the villa but good in the main building.

Review 10:There were 2 of us travelling and we booked a 2 bedroom villa. Plenty of space so we could both do our own thing, nice and quiet so good sleep. No kids and very private villa's.

Review 11:The setting, ambience and staff of Five Princes are all exactly what suits me: the place is quiet, efficiently run, clean as a whistle and beautiful. My room was a real refuge. The bures are lovely if you need a little more room. The pool, set in a private garden, is a jewel.

Review 12:We got upgraded to the 2-bedroom villa as our T.V. wasn't working. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Internet as with most hotels/resorts in Fiji, was on a pay basis and not free. The pool was beautiful but needed a bit upkeep. Beautiful colonial style villa to stay in Suva. It's convenient enough location, as it's away from the CBD but not too far.

Review 13:Away from the buzz of the city, quiet, yet very close by taxi, in the suburbs, close to consulates. Lovely pool and wonderful gardens. Basic yet fresh, tasty and sufficient breakfast.

Review 14:Only downside was you had to pay for wifi. $25 Fijian for 24 hour pass,$10 for 60 minutes, $5 for 3 minutes. Worked well though. And still agreat place to stay.

Review 15:Beautiful establishment, outdoor pool, comfortable beds, everythingclean. Location is a little far from downtown Suva but taxi faresare very reasonable ($5 Fijian to get downtown). Everyone veryfriendly, dinner was amazing. I had mahi mahi and my husband hadtuna, both gourmet and delicious. Also reasonably priced. Wouldrecommend to any guests.

Review 16:Nothing not to like.

Review 17:I loved the gardens, quietness and old-style charm. A total contrast to the bustle of Suva. Staff were very friendly and helpful. This is now my favourite hotel in Suva.

Review 18:Only problem I had was finding out we were paying more for the room thanks to going through booking.com. Recommend other guests to book direct on the hotels website and save yourself $30 per night!

Review 19:Reception area and balcony are warm and welcoming. Great to relax in at end if the day. Comfortable couches to read or have a coffee. The food was excellent and service relaxed but impeccable. Lo is a great asset and her style mirrors hotels feel. Garden room very comfortable and had everything we needed. The pool is lovely. Clean and spacious with lounges, chairs and benches to relax or keep an eye an eye on kids.

Review 20:The only TV channel changing is done by calling the front desk. If someone else is watching the channel you don't want . . . Tough. You can't charge laundry service (that they provide) to your room bill, they demand you pay cash for that. No bellman. No one to help with luggage. No one to greet you at reception when you arrive. Feels more like a mom-&-pop B&B than a four star hotel. (Which it definitely is not!). That being said, if they could figure out these small quirky items, I would love to come back. It's beautiful.

Review 21:Classy, colonial appearance. Great terrace overlooking the sunset-side of Suva. King size bed. Great swimming pool. Friendly staff.

Review 22:The first room I was offered. It was clearly damp smelling - mould? I found that my chest and respiration was effected immediately. Thankfully I could be shown a much better room that did not cause the same reaction.

Review 23:Friendly proactive helpful staff.. My need for a different room quickly and easily managed - see below. I also loved that the kitchen could anticipate the kind of special meal my friends and I were looking for as a celebration of my last night in Fiji. We were not disappointed. Professionalism of staff. Lovely room and very nice meal .. Good feel..

Review 24:Personal attention was good. I was always addressed by name - that's a nice personal touch . Dining room has a limited choice on the menu but the food is excellent and prepared to my liking . I love the old colonial setting.

Review 25:Not very much not to like really. If you want a hotel with a fun and busy bar and restaurant, then this is not for you I'm afraid. Its value lies in its seclusion and peace and quiet away from the hurly burly of Suva. We enjoyed our stay very much but we did have a 2 year old child and not a teenager that would, doubtless, have wanted a more exciting environment to holiday in.

Review 26:Very relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful location with great views. No one about it seemed. A little oasis of peace and quiet a stones throw from a busy road intersection. Relatively close to the centre of Suva. Ready availabilty of taxis, but the same is true of most of Suva.

Review 27:Accommodation choices in Suva are varied and there are a couple of big brand chains in town. Very nice surroundings and comfortable. It's not "deluxe, OTT" but it is the most comfortable hotel I've stayed in, and I've been to Suva a few times. It's up high so in the summer months, you should benefit from the breezes.

Review 28:Situated close to a very busy intersection - however, the hotel is remarkably quiet.

Review 29:Quiet with lovely garden bungalows. Very efficient and friendly staff. The menu is not extensive but well-cooked particularly the fish!

Review 30:This is minor, but we were never sure what linens we would get. One day it was towels but no facecloths, the next towels and facecloths but no dishtowels, etc. We would have preferred Wi-Fi but it's probably not offered in that part of the world. Review 31:Staff was very helpful in making sure we were comfortable, helping us make travel arrangements, arranging taxis, keeping the bure neat and clean. Premises were well kept. Landscaping was gorgeous. Pool was an asset after each day spent touring. Loved the idea of staying Harold Gatty's former mansion. Spent one night in the main house and five in a bure.

Review 32:Not enough table top. Air conditioner did not swing - blew direct on head.

Review 33:Spacious room.

Review 34:Some issues with the hot water.

Review 35:Dinner food is excellent, and good value, though breakfast was less value.

Review 36:location is so handy. staff are awesome. rooms are spacious, grounds are stunning.

Review 37:they help or assist you with everything...

Review 38:building was a bit old.

Review 39:breakfast, friendly staff

Review 40:The feel

Review 41:Next to Main Road. A bit of traffic noise. Also next to large church - Don't expect to sleep in on Sunday morning.

Review 42:Clean & comfortable.

Review 43:Had to help organise breakfast on last day. Made coffee and couldn't find any fruit

Review 44:Friendly staff

Review 45:impressive furniture , very helpful staff

Review 46:Delightfully charming, beautiful rooms, and very quiet. The dinners were the best I have ever had in Fiji. The staff was perfect!

Review 47:location to find at night was difficult in finding the entrance. Our first time in driving in Fiji with a rental car..

Review 48:Room setting and accomadations

Review 49:Paid for breakfast extra despite being told included.

Review 50:Outlook to the harbour when breakfasting

Review 51:Everything was just perfect, from room to dinner and other guests

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:steep path and steps from car park.

Review 54:helpful staff

Review 55:Location also meant pleasant cool breeze often. Personal service. Relaxed, not too formal.

Review 56:No free wifi.

Review 57:The beautiful villa.

Review 58:Needs good entrance- busy road

Review 59:Like the colonial feel

Review 60:No Comment

Review 61:Friendly staff. Cosy Quiet

Review 62:I am a return stayer - the staff are always helpful and friendly, the in-house dining is yummy and the location is ideal for my purposes.

Review 63:everything,had to cancel my reservation on seeing the property.Ihad to pay a days cancellation charges. This place is not 4 star rated.

Review 64:nothing

Review 65:Very accommodating. Nothing was too much trouble. Thanks

Review 66:Could do without cigarette smoking indoors.

Review 67:Beautifully appointed space with great staff and a fantastic kitchen! So much better than sterile hotels.

Review 68:Uncomfortable bed, bit out of the way from central Suva, especially without a car.

Review 69:Food,beautifully restored house, staff, great view of Suva Harbour

Review 70:Everything was beautiful, from the villa to the staff.

Review 71:Not much. All was well.

Review 72:Friendly staff. Very upto date accommodation. Comfortable and immaculate.

Review 73:nothing, everything was great.

Review 74:The way the staff welcomed me and supported me while my luggage was being delivered from Nadi. The food at dinner is amazing and the general atmosphere of the place is lovely. I will definatly return, next time I am in the South Pacific.

Review 75:* Very clean * Good shower, a lot´s of hot water, and spacious bathroom * Really charming mansion with that character of the old mansions * Nice pool area * Dinner was really good. Served on airy terrace. Exellent service. The chief is from Italy, so the dinner was indeed a good experience. * Check-out early in the morning is possible * All in all, it turned out to be very effective hotel if you are in transit

Review 76:Dinner menu was a bit limited.

Review 77:Very comfortable villa style units that are a bit old fashioned which is a pleasant change from the impersonal chain hotels. The highlight was the staff who could not have been friendlier and who went out of their way to know their guests and to offer great service. Good old fashioned cooking.

Review 78:Unfortunately there was a function on and the kitchen was closed. Also breakfast in the morning was not set up and no cooked breakfast was offered. We had an early flight and we were mucked around abit.

Review 79:The continental breakfast was priced too high.

Review 80:The staff were top notch and the vibe was mellow and easy. A very comfortable guesthouse and a great place to stay in Suva!

Review 81:Hard to pick one but perhaps one computer station for the person traveling without his lap top.

Review 82:The quality and tranquillity of the cottage was great along with the surrounding gardens. It felt out of town whilst being very close. Loved it, exactly what was required.

Review 83:A bit pricey compared to others in this category, approx double Vale Ti Nadra, which was full, as were most places perhaps due to the Australian public servants in Suva at the time involved in restoration of ties with the Fiji government. We didn't try the food as there are a lot of good quality options in Suva for comparable costs. There was no b'fast included despite a room cost well over 150 AUD.

Review 84:Room small but tasteful, with TV, DVD and robust AC. This is not a hotel in my view, but much more akin to a B&B. It is a large home modified to B&B. Cheap taxis to the port area and also to the Royal Suva Yacht Club, which is spacious and has cheap pub style fare and drinks.

Review 85:Electrical appliances that didn't work, no tissues, limited kitchen equipment and cooking facilities.

Review 86:Garden, pool, friendly staff, nice bed linen.

Review 87:Pool was dirty mad smelt funny around it. It is not maintained well at all. Car park is a long walk from villas and the pathway is narrow and you have to go up mad down stairs, definitely hard if yuk have lots if luggage as there is no porter or trolley! Front desk is rarely manned. Definitely not the customer service you find in Nadi

Review 88:The room was very clean, nice and modern.

Review 89:Taxi driver was not awaiting us upon arrival, altough previously arranged with the hotel.

Review 90:Quiet location, spacious room, good service and excellent food.

Review 91:It's quite a walk from the car park to our 2 br villa which my 80 year old mother found a bit tiring.

Review 92:Beautiful setting, friendly staff, excellent facilities, wonderful food.

Review 93:The plantation-style historic setting needs more maintenance to bring itback to what appears to be its formal vitality and grace. Old furniturewas piled near the pool area, and fixing this up would give it a senseof its former elegance.

Review 94:That is was small, intimate environment for a quiet place to stay in thecity of Suva before heading out to an island. Sue cooked us a delightfulfish dinner which we ate alone on the veranda under the stars. We had analone time in the small pool in the late afternoon. It is walkingdistance to the Suva port and marketplace.

Review 95:I didn't think the price for where the location of the hotel was good. If I were the owners I will reduce the price to get more guests coming in.

Review 96:The friendly staff made us feel so welcomed. I also loved our dinner. The food was very, very delicious

Review 97:We need blankets in the rooms!

Review 98:The friendly and helpful staff. The food was good. The resort was a gem, within the city but hidden away. A great getaway on a business trip. Everything was good.

Review 99:Not suitable for older persons or persons with disabilities because of the steep entrance and lots of pathways to reach the villas. Not very comfortable in wet weather because of the open and steep walkways.

Review 100:The garden setting, tropical and native plants, old colonial style buildings, wooden floors, quietness, could here the birds rather than the traffic and staff always ready to help. Felt very secure with the presence of the security guards.

Review 101:Rated as 4 star, more like 3, so $380 per night for 3 expensive. Cupboard in the kitchen had door damaged, fridge very old, drapes in the 2nd bedroom shabby.

Review 102:The staff were very helpful & gave us a free evening meal as the hotel itself did not live up to the photos on the website.

Review 103:Wifi is still chargable, but this seems a problem to all fijian hotels' problem.

Review 104:I am totally happy with this hotel. Its location is just 5minutes taxi drive, and room is so comfortable and clean, defintely my choice again.

Review 105:The hotel is inconveniently located and on a busy road. The hotel's own description is vastly overinflated. Rather, it is a somewhat rundown old house converted to a hotel. The garden, though, is quite lush. The food services are limited and overpriced and nothing else is available in the area. In general, this hotel provides poor value for money.

Review 106:The room, while small, had recently been redone, especially the bathroom.

Review 107:Food was very expensive for what was served. It is quite a long walk from the city, much further than we thought from reading the add.

Review 108:Lovely colonial building with a good sized room and roomy on suite bathroom. The out door seating area was stunning.

Review 109:Driveway to the Hotel parking area is very narrow driving from a busyintersection.

Review 110:Privacy, Close to City and the Australian Embassy, Natural surroundings, plants and garden well maintained, friendly and helpful staff.

Review 111:Prices for spirits were a bit steep.

Review 112:The decor was a treat. The old colonial atmosphere of the environmentwas quaint and refreshing. The bed linen was superb.Staff were helpfuland responsive. Food was fresh and tasty and the dinning area waslovely. An oasis in Suva town.

Review 113:Water was not very hot. You need a taxi to get to town or anywhere, but it usually takes 5 minutes to call one and they are not expensive. Wi/fi is and breakfast are extra. I was not very impressed with the breakfast- I bought my own fruit.

Review 114:I was surprised how much I enjoyed the stay, it was very peaceful & calm - just very nice to stay there. The gardens & view are beautiful, & the staff very friendly. I stayed in the garden cottage and it was very quiet. They have a nice pool as well. Home-cooked dinners to order.

Review 115:Price is the only issue, but everything else of this decency is also very expensive.

Review 116:Food is great. Hotel is clean and quite.

Review 117:Staff was very helpful. Dinner was exceptional. The outdoor deck and gardens are a gem.

Review 118:Loved the home stay feel, the privacy and the tranquility A special place with great food

Review 119:They didn't honour the booking made as advertised. Once there the conditions changed & they charged extra!

Review 120:Atmosphere & style

Review 121:great value for money, but need a car to get around places.

Review 122:Comfortable beds and air conditioning on a hot January day! Wonderful ambience.

Review 123:Location

Review 124:Comfortable fale, nice pool, lovely staff and owners
