Reviews for Résidence Adonis La Barbacane

Review 1:The room are quite used and not quite clean. The WiFi is unstable and works on single device only. The main city is on the other side of the river. There is just a hub of hotels/apartments around - no shops, no place to eat etc (except inside the castle walls).

Review 2:Close to the castle.

Review 3:When we first got there at about 1pm to ask for information (reservation starts at 3pm), the receptionist was not very welcoming and told us to simply leave our bags in the corridor... and there they stayed, unattended, until we came back at night. The other receptionist (at night) was very friendly and helpful, tho.

Review 4:Very comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Great location close to the old city.

Review 5:The reception is closed from 8pm and the no one answer by the emergency number. We stayed one night without hot water (had not received info to switch on the circuit, and after we find out by ourselves it lasts long time to warm it), without Internet (the password was wrong and none to give us a correct one), and without heating at a 0-5 Celsius by the night. Awful night! I don't recommend it.

Review 6:That they hadn't changed the linen on the pull out sofa bed in the lounge. That there weren't enough towels in the room for the number of people and didn't feel comfortable to go and ask for more because we'd already gone to ask for more stuff before hand and didn't want to brass the reception lady off more.

Review 7:It's in a good location - close to the castle which is incredible however, from our experience here, there wasn't much to like (about the hotel). Would recommend if you want cheap and don't mind limited quality. The woman on reception was quite 'short' with us; and we were allocated a room that was damp, musty and smelly and with windows that we couldn't open subsequently, she was not very impressed when we asked to change. The rooms are very spartan and we slept on a 3 legged pull out sofa bed in the lounge that had dirty sheets on it when we pulled it out - like pubic hairs and dirt off the last person's feet! - and it flipped up when I sat on it. Not nice (but we had to laugh!) but worse when the lady at reception looked at me incredulously when I went and asked for clean sheets (forgot to get pillow cases so had to turn the dirty ones inside out cause didn't want to go back and ask for more). Also had to go and ask for a corkscrew to open our bottle of wine -it appears they keep it behind the reception desk as there wasn't one in the room and you had to return it after use. However, you get what you pay for and we went cheap so that's what we got. .

Review 8:Room was not clean and bed sheets had stains on. Worst bed ever and failed to get a good nights sleep for out 3 night stay. Only one pillow that was very poor to. Wifi was always busy that meant we could not access it.

Review 9:The staff spoke English

Review 10:Had great difficulty getting into accommodation out of office hours . No staff , licked door . Only help of strangers with a phone could we get in . If you are not on internet, which we were not while trVling you had no information of late arrival

Review 11:Location. Clean, basic , value for money, great night views of medieval city from window

Review 12:Hard beds. Specifically asked for a double bed but got 2 singles. Sheets & blankets instead of a duvet. Lumpy pillows. Bed settee in lounge not comfy to relax on. No kettle. No tea towel. Decent supermarket was 20-25 minute walk away.

Review 13:Location was good. Appearance from outside was good & garden& patio area looked nice. Helpful staff. Nearby park. Ok for the economy B&B price paid.

Review 14:The decor is a bit stark and only French TV was available apart from BBC world news with a very bad picture

Review 15:The premises were very clean, breakfast was very nice and the location would have been excellent if the climb up to the Cite was not so steep, as it was we had to take a taxi to the Narbonnaise gate to make access easier

Review 16:Dusty, even dirty on the floor, if you try to take off the shoes, you are getting black on your socks and feet...not very happy with that when you have a toddler with you... No cleaning products in the kitchen, washing the dishes a little bit challenging without detergent...no paper towels in the kitchen also...three small towels in the bathroom

Review 17:Close to the old city, staff ok

Review 18:dirty. no room service. no cleaning room. no friendly staff (really unfriendly) breakfast is not value for money.

Review 19:location is the best. real 5 min walking from LA CITE. and 10 from downtown.

Review 20:My friend and I arrived at 12.30pm hoping to drop off our luggage so that we can explore the city before we check in. It is not mentioned anywhere on this site that they are closed between 12-3. We phoned them to ask if we could just drop off our luggage but only got to their answering machine, which mentioned an emergency number. No one responded to that phone call either. When we checked in at 3pm, we told the receptionist about our ordeal but she didn't seem to have that much sympathy.

Review 21:Spacious and excellent value for money.

Review 22:The room was tired with poor quality fittings. The pillows were flat and lifeless. Only one pillow per person so really uncomfortable to sleep and neck ache in the morning. The shower head was loose and did not hang on a wall making a showers one handed exercise

Review 23:Good location with helpful staff. The price was good so expectations were not high

Review 24:weird design and atmosphere; seems old and not well maintained; need binoculars to watch the tv; basic breakfast;

Review 25:The location is good, close to the pleasant lower village and just across the street from a trail leading up to the fortress. Got free parking just near the entrance. room large.

Review 26:Cleanliness was the main issue. Staff were friendly enough, however they seemed much more concerned on letting you know all the times they were closed and not available then focusing on when they were.

Review 27:Location was fantastic. Right at the bottom of the castle. Easy walk to the castle or back into town. We had a very nice, big room however it wasn't very clean. Had it been cleaned properly it would have been excellent.

Review 28:Poorly maintained, not very clean, kitchen missing essentials, stair railing at the top of the stairs very loose and dangerous if you leant on it, it would have collapsed!

Review 29:Close to the fortified city

Review 30:It would have been better for us to have a two bedroom apartment for a family of 4.

Review 31:The location to La Cite was great. Very easy access just across the road.

Review 32:Private parking at the hotel costs extra (8.5 euros/day) if you can't find a free spot on the street.

Review 33:Only one block from one of the pedestrian paths up to the old city. Basic kitchen facilities in the rooms.

Review 34:Very badly stained carpets. No holder for shower in bath. Broken blinds on all windows. No kettle in the kitchenette area. Staff were not helpful when asking for directions.

Review 35:The ambience of the residence, it's individuality - the original art and the lovely courtyard. The obliging nature of the staff and overall convenience of the location.

Review 36:The kitchen utensils were a little lacking and only 1 wine glass! However we only made tea or coffee and a little breakfast so not a problem

Review 37:Location.value.helpful staff.

Review 38:Office is closed some hours during the day and at night which was inconvenient; had no warning of this.

Review 39:There was a lot of room and the kitchen was convenient.

Review 40:Strange layout with bedroom+bathroom (shower/basin) in loft and toilet downstairs, so nighttime requirements a bit challenging!. but very comfortable and very well situated right by Le Cite. bit of a walk for larger supermarkets/bakeries/ butchery etc, good accessability to restaurants etc.

Review 41:Wifi poor. One of us never got connected.

Review 42:Easy to find and great not having to drive though city centre. Location for Medieval Cite was excellent. Room spacious and comfortable. Breakfast plentiful. Perhaps a 20 min walk into city centre - worth it.

Review 43:The room itself, although spacious, was very run down and looked as if it hadn't had a thorough clean in quite a while. The 'kitchen' facilities were poor - an old two-hob stove, a couple of old pans and a few random pieces of cutlery. The 5 Euro charge for washing up products is laughable (though cheaper than the 25 Euro charge for leaving the kitchen uncleaned!) The bathroom was very grubby - the toilet brush was disgusting and looked as if it had not been changed for months, if not longer. The pillows were very thin and of poor quality, so not comfortable to sleep on. There is free wifi but only one code per person, so if there are multiple guests in the room they have to take it in turns to access the internet. Apart from our initial check in, the staff did not greet us when leaving or entering the building. Overall, we were left wondering how the three star rating had been awarded for this place.

Review 44:Location is very useful, just at the foot of the old town.

Review 45:It was nice to have a kitchen, but it would have been nicer to have soap and a sponge provided instead of being expected to pay €5 for a set.

Review 46:It was very close to the medieval city--in fact, we could see one of the towers out of our window! It was quiet and private, and easy enough to find.

Review 47:It's ridiculous that the recepion is closed for 3 hours between 12 and 3 pm and the hotel is completely closed, you are stuck outside waiting for the end of "siesta" if you arrive during that time. No kettle in the room, rather poor bathroom with old shower. Note almost all restaurants in the town are closed in the afternoon until 7 pm.

Review 48:Close to the castle which looks gorgeous on a sunny day, reasonable selection for breakfast compared to prices in the restaurants in town. Both the old town and the main town are nice, a 2 days stay will do. If you want to do shopping go to Carrefour City at Place Carnot in the new town (15 min.).

Review 49:The very good breakfast was supposedly until 10.30, but by 9.45 there was no coffee, milk or cereal bread left!

Review 50:The spaciousness of the apartment, which was very good value for money. It took only a few minutes to walk up into the old city, and we could see the walls and ramparts from the bedroom. Good wifi connection.

Review 51:If there hsd been more than one pillow each would have given full marks. taxi from Argens had great difficulty even with gps. Good map on confirmation showing one way and access to Rue Barbicane no 15 would have helped

Review 52:Location and lowrise design of accommodation round well landscaped courtyard with some grass and cypress trees.

Review 53:Accommodation was very stark and basic - but clean. A few pictures on the wall and small pieces of furniture would make it much more comfortable. We stayed 4 days and not so much as emptying our bins - not good.

Review 54:Location was excellent. Having reception staff available to assist was a bonus.

Review 55:No kettle in room. No bath plug or showerhead holder but only stayed a night so no problem really.

Review 56:Proximity to castle. Friendly staff. Reasonable price and free parking for our bikes.

Review 57:no ambiance, inconvenient parking which you pay 8 euro or find parking on the street. The building is like an prison. The apartment is like a friends unit who couldn't afford to furnish it.

Review 58:Walking distance to the castle.

Review 59:The rooms were fine. Could have done with a deep clean in the toilet/bathroom rather than a quick mop and wipe round. Underground parking was great for the motorcycles (and free) Breakfast was basic but did the job. A bargain really for the price

Review 60:The cobwebs all over the bathroom, the filthy shower curtain, the lack of a kettle, no work surface in the kitchenette

Review 61:The size of the one bedroom apartment, the proximity to La Cité, proximity to all the restaurants on Rue Trivalle

Review 62:Studio is very basic, some things should be renovated. Eg. Some water damage, curtan was fixed with duck tape. Things like that.

Review 63:Big studio, nice breakfast, friendly personnel.

Review 64:reception closed at midday, but did not realise access to hotel closed at same time/ access only by coded door, if you remember code

Review 65:LOCATION below castle walls, apartment spacious and well equipped, easy parking nice restful areas in courtyard

Review 66:A little hard climb up to the old city - take it slow to avoid heart attack - better to find slope rather than stairs if possible - BUT worth the effort

Review 67:Perfect location - excellent value - secure parking - spacious apartment

Review 68:the situation was ideal for visiting the citadel and the old town It was nice to have the facility to make a hot drink when we wanted it the staff were friendly and helpful we enjoyed our stay here

Review 69:Our appartement was in a separate unit and the common carpets were filthy. There was a constant unpleasant smell in our apartment. The mattress of the bed was as hard as cardboard. Awful Wifi. We were always disconnected.

Review 70:A 5 minutes walk and easy and to get to the Cité de Carcassonne. The view is great all over. Also easy to get to the lower part of the city and the Pont Vieux. The apartment was larger then average. no carpets in the main room. safe garage to park.

Review 71:Beds were a bit too firm. A kitchenette but no tea and coffee facility. Only one mirror in the bathroom. Beware of scorching hot water from the taps. No fresh fruit with the breakfast. WiFi weak and slow.

Review 72:The staff were helpful and friendly. Our French is limited. Location was good.

Review 73:More cutlery would have been nice as well as a hook for the shower head to be placed on.

Review 74:Location... within 10 minutes of the castle. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.

Review 75:The apartment could be cleaned better. E. g. they could sometimes vacuum the toilet. Due to size of the residence we had little impersonal feeling.

Review 76:Residence is very good located, near from Carcassonne Castle. We appreciated parking possibility.

Review 77:I didn't like that the hotel didn't have an elevator. I was carrying heavy luggage. To move my luggage to the second floor was not easy.

Review 78:I love how close and convenient was to the Medieval Cite.

Review 79:Black mold in the kitchen and bathroom, also had ants running around the room when we arrived. No offer to change rooms just killed the ants with bug spray and left.

Review 80:The location and access to the old city

Review 81:When we entered the apartment there was a strong tobacco smell, disgusting! We opened windows and wait until it was ok enough to stay inside but smell never disapeared totally.

Review 82:Location is great, walking distance to old town. Reception lady was very helpful.

Review 83:We tried 3 rooms before we found one that was remotely clean. The hotel is in need of a radical makeover as it has the appearance and feel of an institution. The rooms are in fact small apartments but without the facilities needed to use them as such. Very odd.

Review 84:Location was good

Review 85:We were 2 adults and 2 children. But only one bed and one convertible. Bathroom: Only two real towels (and two hand towels). We paid 9.50 for parking but no remote left so could not use our car at night. Restroom was smelly.

Review 86:Location was great, just a few hundred meters from the Cite.

Review 87:Many of the gym machines were broken and the jacuzzi was cold. The sofa bed was an o.k bed but mattress was too big so wouldn't stayed folded as a sofa.

Review 88:Cross a small road from the residence, and walk up an alley way and in 10 minutes you are through the gateway right by the Chateau de Comtal. Underground car parking.

Review 89:Kitchenette sparsely fitted out, no cleaning materials in the kitchen, ie dishwashing liquid, t towell, dish cloth, dish brush etc. Could buy a kit and were advised if kitchenette not left clean we would be charged. We luckily had a few things of our own.

Review 90:The location was great, just a short walk to the medieval city.

Review 91:In the room everything is somehow not completed yet and not thought. Still needed to work on rooms furnishings and comfort. Bathroom is not finished at all. Nowhere to hang a towel. The kitchen area needs to be improved.

Review 92:Good location near the fortress, big rooms, helpfull staff, fine breakfast.

Review 93:The general feel of the place was unkept and unloved . Stains on hallway carpets and neglected gardens gave a very poor impression.

Review 94:It was very close to the walled city , the reception staff were very polite and helpful .

Review 95:The apartment was obviously not cleaned properly after previous guests. The curtains were not working well, the toilet seat was not fixed, the light under the air exhaust was not working. WiFi was working in such a way that only one logon was possible at a time and it was required to enter the log-in details every time after you disconnect. We wanted to leave that area as soon as we could.

Review 96:Located at the mountain heel where the castle is.

Review 97:Air con in the first room didn't work. Mediocre maintenance work carried out. Check in not until 3:30 - desk only managed part time. No bar. Appartments are completely characterless and depressing. My room was on two floors, with the toilet on the ground floor and the bathroom next to the bedroom upstairs.

Review 98:Good location and secure parking. Easy access on the edge of the city. Easy to walk into the historic centre. Fair price in the city.

Review 99:Not great value for money, very basic rooms and facilities, reception closes from 12h to 15h, Wi-fi system is limited to 1 device and has weak coverage

Review 100:Clean enough, location is ok.

Review 101:The bed was a bit too hard, but that's perhaps just a personal opinion. The air conditioning, while nice, was super loud!

Review 102:Excellent access to the walled city, good parking facilities, the breakfast was also pretty good. Friendly staff.

Review 103:Reception was closed from 12.30-3 so had to lug bags around town Gym was terrible hardly no equipment and war was there was broken might as well not have one..

Review 104:Location to castle

Review 105:The soundproof is terrible. We could hear every move of our kids (and they are not heavy) on the bed in the living room. The continental breakfast is a bit overpriced (9 EUR/person). Wi-Fi is organized in old-fashioned way with a one-time username/password combination, which is OK for laptops, but inconvenient for mobile devices.

Review 106:The location is good if your main destination is Cite - there's a short but steep walk up to the gates. Price is really good for 1-bedroom suite, though breakfast and parking are extra.

Review 107:The place was old and poorly maintained. The rooms were bare. The staff was functional but nothing more. Does not match the photos.

Review 108:Location to the cite is convenient. It is inexpensive.

Review 109:Kitchens are poorly equipped. No lifts to the upper floors so difficult with children. Shower and bath were in poor condition. Pretty expensive for the quality of apartments.

Review 110:Location is great and apartments are clean, spacious and tidy. It's easy to park up near the hotel so don't book the expensive on site parking service. Hotel stored our bikes safely which was great.

Review 111:No baby coat and they put us in a room at the first floor without lift ,so we have to carry the pushchair with our baby and our luggages on the steps ..not very comfortable

Review 112:The position close to the city center

Review 113:Furniture is very basic and dated; floor is just tyles, no rugs of any kind; sofa is small; closet door is broken.

Review 114:Location is perfect for visiting the castle; central air conditioning, nice garden.

Review 115:We weren't given enough towels. Shower was mouldy and the carpet didn't look like it had been vacuumed.

Review 116:We liked the location and the suze of the rooms.

Review 117:Uncomfortable bed, weak wifi in the room

Review 118:Good location if you want to visit the fortress. The centre of the city is just 10 min away walking. Free parking in the whole street.

Review 119:Only 1 Jacuzzi for all the rooms. Hard to find a place...

Review 120:The rooms are very spacious. We were so happy to find such spacious rooms in France on a very cheap price. Great location, just on the foot of medieval city. We will certainly stay there during our next trip to Carcasson.

Review 121:limited utensils for the kitchen but they were quick to provide a hairdryer and corkscrew on request. An electric kettle would have been nice.

Review 122:Easy walking access to both the Old and New City, they have a terrace where you can sit out. A spacious studio with limited furniture.

Review 123:Kitchen equipment rather sparse, no kettle toaster etc compared to other places we used. Had to pay 5euro for little bag of sponge cloths and 3 bin bags. Outside are good but no shaded seats though this space could have been used easily. Since the area is warm it's a missed opportunity. Water feature would have been excellent.

Review 124:The staff were very helpful, the duplex suited us two old college friends holidaying together. All was clean and pretty quiet. Broken bulb fixed speedy after I reported it. Laundry was useful. Good security arrangements.

Review 125:1. Covered parking was chargeable at 8 euros a night in spite of having a large covered car park for about 25 cars which remained empty. Just 1 car there. Instead of keeping it vacant, the hotel could have offered it complimentary. It is a must for almost all.

Review 126:1. Location very close to the Castle. Walking 7 min. 2. Spacious and comfortable 3. We had a Duplex apartment with Bedroom and Bath on the upper floor. Kitchenette, WC, living room with a sofa cum bed on the Ground floor. 4. Well equipped kitchen and dining 5. We loved the free warm water Jacuzzi after a long drive to Carcassonne. 6. Free parking just outside the hotel gate on the street. Reach early to get it. By late evening, the street parking of about 7 cars get full. We reached by 3 pm and got the prime parking just in front of he gate, hence we didn't remove our car in the night. View of the castle from the " view Bridge" at night is stunning. about 10 min. walk. I was glad that we stayed below near the castle and not up inside the ramparts. We didn't have to drag our luggage on cobbled streets. Take about 2 hours to roam the inside of the castle. We didn't visit the Chateau in the castle which has a ticket. Castle entry is free. 1 night is enough for this town.

Review 127:The cleanness is only ok and there are some pieces of furniture a tiny bit run-down. The bed wasn't on the soft side of my scale. The self-catering options in the entire city are limited and expensive, but in the immediate vicinity to the hotel they achieve the absurd 4 euro for a coffee. Make a good use of the kitchen.

Review 128:The location is great. One short climb and you reach the main gate of the castle. A very peaceful interior, with an area for leisure. A pleasant experience in general.

Review 129:Clothes-washing services were not offered as far as I was aware.

Review 130:The accommodation was very close to the medieval city which was fantastic. It was easy to find and was nice being on ground level as this is convenient for transporting baggage. The bed was very comfortable and a big buffet breakfast was available.

Review 131:The front desk is closed from 12:00 to 3:00pm. We arrived at 11:30 am by taxi and the front desk was shut. If not for a helpful guest staying at the hotel we would have been left minding our bags on the side of the road for 3 hours. If not travelling by car consider a hotel closer to the main part of Carcassonne as there are very few dining options near the hotel. Beware the overpriced cleaning packs if you want to use the kitchennette.

Review 132:The hotel is close to the historic part of Carcassonne and is an easy walk. If travelling by car then this is a good option.

Review 133:Breakfast did not have enough healthy options. Boiled eggs and healthy cereal recommended. Carpets to the rooms were worn stained and had an odour. Staff were too general about local information.

Review 134:Location was excellent. Between the castle and town. Parking easy on the street. Quiet rooms. Value for money.

Review 135:Kitchenette very poorly set up. Not even a plug for the sink. Very basic 2 cups, bowls palates knives and forks. 1 old saucepan and half broken pan. Curtains useless.

Review 136:Close to major attraction - short walk. Large room

Review 137:Unfriendly and arrogant staff. There were no blanket sheets on the bed, which made our sleeping uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Review 138:Good location, close to the castle.

Review 139:No particular grace to the accomodations, but we knew we were trading that for price. We were totally satisfied with this place which was 30 euros less than some of the other places..

Review 140:THe closeness to the fortress

Review 141:Dirty stained bath tiles and worn out bed linen. No plug for sink and needing to buy plug and detergent to wash plates at €5 Replacing old linen and cleaning stained carpet and bathroom tiles would improve

Review 142:The location and room size

Review 143:several tiny things: not very clean, bed linien not very confortable, no sponge (5€ to pay for the "washing kit", otherwise 25€ fine), curtain broken, bad soundproofing

Review 144:large studio, location very close to the castle and not far from the train station price ok but thanks to the booking reservation; price much more expensive without reservation! jacuzzi but a bit cold
