Reviews for Hôtel Bristol

Review 1:N/A

Review 2:Great location. Opposite railway station & overlooks Canal du Midi.Good size room & bathroom. About 30 mins walk to Le Cite.Staff efficient & helpful.Around corner from large traditional bistro.

Review 3:Decor and furnishings old. Loo had dirty water in it. Needs updating and makeover. Real potential.

Review 4:This was a one stopover for an early flight back to the UK. Brilliant location. Great value for money. I would most certianly stay again.

Review 5:Toilet is in separate room by itself with no sink. Bathtub is difficult to use as shower as there is no hook to hold shower head. Staff only speaks French to clients.

Review 6:Located right by train station. Our room was quite large.

Review 7:This hotel has a decidedly shabby appearance from the outside and I got almost no sleep as a consequence of very load music in the area until the early hours and then what sounded like furniture being moved about on the floor above me for much much of the remainder of the night.

Review 8:From my point of view location was excellent --I arrived by train at the station across the road and left the next day on the airport bus from the front of the station. My room was clean and comfortable and reception staff pleasant.

Review 9:There was loud music until at least 1pm from a nearby bar, one of the sliding shower doors was broken, the shower head was rubbish with no spray or pressure & it took at least 3 minutes to get hot water flowing, décor very poor. I booked the last double bed but got two singles.

Review 10:The beds were comfortable & the radiator was good.

Review 11:Room and floors were cold (water heater took a long time to catch up). Breakfast convinient but pricy. No locker room, they left our baggage unattended in the hallway.

Review 12:Good location, right next to train station.

Review 13:Sound of water from above on our 2nd overnight stay- appeared to be a controlled overflow as new very small hole in our bathroom ceiling let through a small amount of water and towels soaked it up OK!! No option for tea/coffee making in 2nd overnight room and no milk on first night to use with other drink making supplies

Review 14:Room looking over the Canal du Midi- 2nd overnight stay

Review 15:The decor is a bit tired and could do with a lick of paint.

Review 16:Location suited us as we wanted to be near the airport shuttle stop/taxi rank. We also enjoyed being next the Canal. There were loads or eateries in the area. The room exceeded our expectations and the staff were super-helpful.

Review 17:nothing.

Review 18:I and my friend didn't expect anything about this hotel cuz we booked at the very day and the hotel was the cheepest. but our room was very big and comfortable. and of course, its location is wonderful!!

Review 19:Parking is very limited and in fairness the Hotel is starting to look rather `tired`. There was no restaurant but there was a breakfast room.

Review 20:Great location for the new Carcasonne and the Canal and there is some parking available. A good price for where it is - it is only 50 metres from where the Canal tour boats are situated - and we had a good room as well. The highlight is that it is about 100metres from the best restaurant we have ever been to in Carcassonne - Chez Fred.

Review 21:We had booked this hotel based on location and value for money. We were not disappointed. We came by train, trundled our bags 200 metres across the Canal du Midi, were greeted by a smile and offered a balcony room on the second floor overlooking the canal. The Hotel Bristol has the charm as of an agreeable ageing aristocrat. There is plenty of activity going on around it but we were not troubled at all by noise. It is the gateway to the old city through which you can walk to reach the citadel on the other side of the Aude River. Plenty of good restaurants are nearby.

Review 22:The staff were very friendly and helpful, room was large and had a balcony. Very close to the train, the Canal du Midi, and an easy walk to La Cite and the market

Review 23:The smell of dampness in room was very bad. Bed spread dirty. Stained. No staff at reception to check us out as a result we missed the bus to airport.

Review 24:Very near train station.

Review 25:It is close to the train station and the main shopping road of the modern town, but it is a good half an hour walk from la Cité

Review 26:It is a hotel that clearly saw better days. The structure maintains traces of its past grandeur. Today it is run as a dignified 3 star-level hotel. My room was very big.

Review 27:It is an old building (which I love) but is a bit shabby. The bed was uncomfortable and although the sheets were white and clean/crisp the blankets and overthrow were old-fashioned and added to the shabbiness of the decor. The hallways and lounge are also old and shabby. The whole place needs a facelift and was quite sad.

Review 28:Lovely large room with two great French windows looking out onto the canal. Opposite the train station and near bus-stops to old city but still quiet. Huge choice of breakfast items

Review 29:We were in the second floor to the backyard and when we entered the room it smelled strongly unaired and moldy. We found out that the smell came from the bathroom, probably the floor drain is not water-proof and the floor molds under the tiles. We closed the door to the bathroom and had to open the windows to let fresh air in, so we could sleep. The wifi was strong, but you had to get a password per device and day, which was annoying.

Review 30:The location is good, you can see the train station (no noise) and the canal du midi from the hotel. The old town is a minute away. The hotel is very old and the room was last updated years ago, but ok. You could sleep there. It has all you need for a short stay. Breakfast was very good. There was a parking garage in the hotel, which is great, because you don't find a spot anywhere else. The staff was nice and helpful.

Review 31:We were put in room 107 that was crawling with bed bugs. I had 286 bitesin one night that needed antihistamines and anaesthetic cream from adoctor. The room was dirty and the bathroom had mould round the tilesand the toilet had brown stains. The wardrobe was falling apart. Carpetrotten. The hotel had no intentions of fumigating this room. This hotelshould not have a star rating.

Review 32:The location is good and the reception staff pleasant if unhelpful.

Review 33:Overall the hotel is run down, a bit dirty , furniture broken, 7 nights sleeping in the same sheets, dreadful pillows. TV up at the ceiling! Volume set so we could not turn it up, a little.

Review 34:Faded and tatty with poor attention to detail. Lift doors did not open on the second floor and stairs are distinctly rickety.

Review 35:Attractive outside and convenient location

Review 36:Fantastic location for everything in Carcassonne. Basic facilities but a very good budget price. If you pay for beer, you should not expect champagne. Highly recommended.

Review 37:Shower head dis not work properly & overall the hotel looks a bit "tired" with stained chairs in the bedroom

Review 38:Bed linen clean & tidy. Friendly staff

Review 39:the room was very 'tired' and although the room, bedding and bathroom were clean, the separate toilet smelt and the door wouldn't stay closed without locking from the inside,so the room had a smell!

Review 40:the position was convenient, opposite the station and only 20mins walk to the old city.

Review 41:Could use some upgrades as a bit tired. The pillow (One long thin bolster) was not to our liking,

Review 42:Friendly staff. Parking (though had to pay) right next to canal. Convenient to shopping.

Review 43:Possibly a little far from the old city - but enjoyed the walk. We wanted to be near the station and you can't do both!

Review 44:Very handy for the train station, and pleasant walks by the water

Review 45:Wifi in room was not strong but there's a nice salon near reception area very nice to sit there and use wifi. Hotel is very old, but quite comfortable.

Review 46:Position. Friendly staff

Review 47:small issue. Plenty of parking adjacent after working hours but when I arrived I was told the hotel car park was full but I could access the car par to the rear for cast of 9 euro. Took receptionist advice and parked looking onto the canal du midi !

Review 48:It is a budget hotel and does not pretend to be otherwise. In its heyday which must be 40 years plus ago I am sure it was something special. Needs investment but given that I was just looking for a clean and comfortable bed for the night it did exactly that.

Review 49:Good location by the Canal du Midi and close to the railway station. Comfortable room and friendly staff. I've stayed twice before but this time discovered that dinner is no longer served, the hotel now just offering breakfasts ( a pity, as the dinners were good). It's not such a big problem, however, as there are plenty of nearby restaurants. The hotel doesn't have any parking but there is free parking by the canal about 500 metres away and we managed to find space there even during the height of the season in August.

Review 50:The room was hot ( mainly due to weather/time of year) - a simple fan in the room would have been nice. We felt the breakfast was very average, but that view is possibly because my partner and I don't eat bread/wheat - it was 90% gluten based, and there was little in the way of fruit or fresh vegetables. If staying again, I'd eat elsewhere.

Review 51:The inner city location.. Inexpensive. Secure, internal parking (paid) for our motorcycle.

Review 52:staff in general was unfriendly (especially the one called Cindy) never a smile or even a word of kindness. we had the impression that our presence was very unwelcoming. other than that, room did not correspond at all to the photos we saw on booking, and to make things worse bath tub and faucet were clogged. wifi was a joke by itself, i had to call and ask for a code then this gigantic and unpratical code is given to me and bam, you get disconnected every 2 min. i called front desk to ask if there was a problem with the code or the internet and she just said "no, it should be working BUT if it doesnt work, try this another one" and this other one never worked...did not get mad since the lady was the only nice and friendly one at this thing they call hotel. honestly i don't know how it owns 3 stars, it is my worst experience in years travelling around, from hostels to 4/5 star hotels.

Review 53:location, that's all

Review 54:Hotel is right across the canal from the train station. It's an older hotel but well maintained. Thankfully I was given a room in the back because there was a very loud concert at night in the park across the street. The window even had a little terrace. Also wonder of wonders the room had a bathtub although the booking indicated it would only be a shower. The room decor was surprisingly nice. The woman at the front desk days (sorry I don't know her name) was the personification of French charm. This was excellent value for money.

Review 55:We had a room at the front of the hotel and as the room had no A/C or fan we had to sleep with the window open which let in all the noise from the bar and night club outside until 3am! Also the wifi was very intermittant - we had to go outside the room to get a good signal.

Review 56:The hotel is in an excellent position for the station, canal and to explore the town on foot.

Review 57:The toilet did not flush properly.

Review 58:I liked the location. Easy to get to the old part of city which was my purpose for going. The staff was very friendly and nice. Across the street from the train station.

Review 59:Room did have a musty smell and a/c remote control missing, but opened lovely big windows to balcony and solved both problems.

Review 60:Very friendly morning staff greeted with warm welcome and allowed me to check in early. Great location to the train station. Basic room (no fridge or tea/coffee making from memory), but comfortable and spacious. Good breakfast in charming dining room across from canal.

Review 61:In my opinion nothing to dislike.

Review 62:This slightly eccentric hotel was in the perfect location and a welcome site on exiting the staion as it's literally a stone's throw. The decor is dated but that wasn't a problem as the hotel was extremely clean and the room air conditioned. The lovely Canal du Midi is directly outside the hotel so you can relax on the grass verge or take the relaxing hour long tour of the canal. We did the canal ride early evening well worth 8 euros. The little white train takes you to the stunning medieval city of Carcassonne. The train stop is 3 mins from the Hotel . If I visited Carcassonne again I would definitely stay at the Hotel Bristol

Review 63:It was a bit smelly and grimy.i read on website there was air con in room and there wasn't.i wouldn't have booked a room without it if I'd known.

Review 64:Position close to station was good.suze of room good.

Review 65:The lift door doesn't open all the time to the second floor, it just needs fixing !!

Review 66:Friendly lady on reception, the rooms were fine for the price and we only stayed one night to visit the area. The beds were good and the rooms are not cramped, the bathroom was less than I would normally expect but it worked.

Review 67:Basic but we didn't need anything else for a short stay. Quite happy with this hotel.

Review 68:Centrally located, easy walking distance to La cite. Air conditioned. Friendly, helpful staff. Booked hotel parking, good deal! Clean. Soap and shampoo provided. We stayed overnight for Bastille day celebrations

Review 69:Smell of smoking. Lots of things were a bit broken. Shutters didn't shut, water didn't go down the sink etc.

Review 70:Location, cleanliness apart from strong smell of smoke. Cheap.

Review 71:Corridors and stairways were a bit shabby and dated, but clean.goo

Review 72:Received a family room opening onto the canal du midi. Lovely room. Friendly, helpful receptionists. Good location for train station and several good quality restaurants in close proximity.

Review 73:The hot l could be nice but it is very tired, not as clean as it should be and the public hallways need decorating. They have tried to make the room better but nothing matches. Clean linen and hot water.

Review 74:The location was good and it was easy to find.

Review 75:Poor quality and broken shower. air con not working.Lack of tea and coffee making facilities

Review 76:Friendly and helpful staff. clean comfortable room. good location.

Review 77:The staff is very helpful and friendly. Location across from the train station is convenient, if you don't want to drag your bags up to the old city. It's within easy walking distance to the old city. It's good value -- if you want a smart, new place, spend more euros! It's good to ask for a quiet room on the back, too. The canal is directly in front.

Review 78:My praise for H.Bristol may not apply to visitors roaming the immense Citadel, but for a short business stop it was perfect: in sight of TGV station; clean and well-priced; reliable wi-fi.

Review 79:Our room was really in need of decorating and renovating. We felt that the entire hotel needed a facelift. It is in a great location right next to the Canal and could be much improved.

Review 80:Nice breakfast

Review 81:It was very convenient for the airport bus and was central to the main places of interest in Carcassonne. The bedroom was excellent with a blend of old world charm and yet was very comfortable. Reception staff were very helpful.

Review 82:No air conditioning in room. Temperature 32-35 degrees when we were there. Kept meaning to ask if fan available(I think so). Some of the rooms at the back had air con.

Review 83:The location was good. The railway station and aerobus just across a short bridge. Barges and canal outside the door. Restaurants around the corner. We had a superior double room with a view of the canal, very spacious.

Review 84:Room a bit warm. The state of the stairs was worriesome, they leaned considerably to one side and the bannister was "secured" to the wall by pieces of string...

Review 85:Perfect location, spacious room, convenient with 24h reception, free wifi in room, although just a little bit troublesone to use occaisonally, perfect cleaning. Recommend it!

Review 86:The wifi never worked in the room, but could be accessed in the main lounge.

Review 87:The room was large, and my three windows had French balconys and a great view of the canal.

Review 88:Our shower was out of action when we got to our room, but we were found another room quickly so not a great inconvenience. Parking on site very limited (only 6 places).

Review 89:Close to the canal, very central, good eating nearby, staff a pleasure to meet. Breakfasts are good, lots of choice .

Review 90:The lady who was was on reception the next day was cold and slightly rude tho she did let me leave my bag in reception while I had a look round Carcassonne. The WiFi wasn't working in my room but I was told I could use it in the reception area. Wasn't any good for me. Has work to do and was very disappointed that I couldn't use the WiFi in my room!

Review 91:The member of staff that greeted me was very friendly and helpful as I arrived worse for wear with my huge rucksack and 2 dogs! Room was clean and comfortable

Review 92:The hotel looks very tired and could do with a good re-vamp. The bedrooms was clean but the carpet on the floor was stained. The breakfast was poor value for money.

Review 93:The location of the hotel was great and the receptionist that greeted us was very pleasant.

Review 94:Not much to dislike really, apart from free wi fi kept disconnecting

Review 95:The location was good, short walk to square and 20 min walk to castle. Stones throw from train station.

Review 96:Nothing

Review 97:The room was very big. It had an annex bedroom off it. The bathroom was big and had all the luxuries. Breakfast was very good with plenty of variety and has a view of the canal and gare

Review 98:Just a small thing but in room 123 the shower connection to the wall is broken.

Review 99:Very clean and comfortable room with room service and clean towels etc.every day. Spacious shower room. In a perfect location with view of the canal du midi and close to the railway station and buses, shops and restaurants. Helpful and polite staff. We hope to return, thank you for a lovely holiday.

Review 100:the hotel was good and the staff very helpful. the location was good but a 35minute walk to the old town. Fantastic italian restaurant almost opposite worth a visit

Review 101:No hot drink facilities. Wifi was out of order in the rooms.

Review 102:Staff recognise regular users. Having hated this place last year we thought we'd give it a second chance and we're glad that we did.

Review 103:Stains on bedroom carpet and covers. No hot water for shower when occupancy rose. Room window on to covered central courtyard so room would be very hot in summer with no air con. too far from La Cite.

Review 104:Helpful staff. Close to railway station and Canal du Midi Quiet. Huge bathroom with separate toilet and very clean with soap, shower gel and hairdryer. Low price.

Review 105:Staff slightly rude to us as if they had never seen a young gay couple - night porter was lovely but the two women in the day displayed the worst of French (in)hospitality. The room smelled of smoke and was very outdated.

Review 106:I guess the price was comparable to a hostel so I cannot complain TOO much.

Review 107:Only downside was WiFi only available downstairs but that was a minor problem.

Review 108:Very close to train, canal, cycle hire and good food. Easy walk to citadel. An excellent choice and I would recommend it. Lovely breakfast with a wide choice.

Review 109:bolster for a pillow is not good enough. The pillow pads are not comfortable for sitting up. Spent 3 very uncomfortable nights. Sorry but sleep makes a big difference to enjoyment.

Review 110:Access to town, rail station, shuttle bus as well as the cities

Review 111:Had a front room and could hear traffic and trains through the night. Should have asked for a back room.

Review 112:Great location for the train station and had several restaurants nearby for dinner and early breakfast and coffee

Review 113:Lack of English speaking TV and parking limited.

Review 114:It's location, within walking distance to sights and station, the canal and boat trips virtually on the doorstep

Review 115:Easy and simple travel location - near to station and canal a simple walk to old city - near to Bars and restaurants and central square. Good rooms Clean - good breakfast. quiet at night.

Review 116:Big, comfortable and clean room with very large bathroom. Very helpful and friendly Staff. Good value for money. Great location near railway station and 20-30 min on foot to all main sights.

Review 117:Beds a little uncomfortable and room a bit run down. You can tell that it has been a great hotel in the past and a little bit of refurbishing could do wonders for this place. The shower has no curtain so we flooded the bathroom both days. Also, the rooms can get a bit hot if you don't open the windows.

Review 118:Situated on the canal bank across from the train station and 5 minutes walk from Place Carnot square. Price was good for two nights. Staff were friendly and spoke good English. They also offer to hold luggage for free during your departure day, which makes the 11am check out time less of a problem. All in all, great place to stay on a budget.

Review 119:the staff were just great! very friendly and very helpful. the room was dated buy very confortable and the view over the canal was great to watch the sunset over

Review 120:By the Canal du Midi on edge of the old town. Plenty of restaurants nearby. Very safe and efficient parking. Kind, helpful, friendly staff. Comfortable.

Review 121:If you have heavy/overweight hotel guest in the room above you.....you may hear them stomping around.

Review 122:Very very clean hotel, staff are amazingly friendly and helpful, location of this hotel cannot be faulted, across the road from the train station incase you want to take a day trip to toulouse (which I did) or narbonne, 15mins walk from the castle, the hotel is also located infront of the cannal and near to a number of restaurants. Also they use keys(actual keys) for their hotel rooms which gives it a nice old 40s feel to it also means you don't have to worry about the light in your room cutting out if you don't have a key card in the slot. The rooms are also a good size.

Review 123:I spent 4 nights here { 27-31 January } and would thoroughly recommend this hotel .....conveniently located to everything you really need ..if you get bus from the airport you literally just have to cross the road from the train station where the bus drops you off ....I had a room on the first floor ,really big room and although overlooking the front of hotel it really was nice and peaceful and had a great view of the canal outside ...staff were great { cindy and fatiha on reception especially .and nothing seemed to much trouble } they supplied me with a kettle and tea making facilities on my arrival at no extra cost ...rooms were kept spotlessly clean during my stay and they were cleaned every day ...yes,maybe the hotel does seem a bit dated, but I reckon this just adds to the charm of the place ....overall, I loved staying here and will definitely return .

Review 124:"No kettle or coffee/tea facilities?" I booked a double bed room but was given a twin single bed room, bed was very small and not that comfortable, free WiFi but restricted allowance? As to watch a online movie I had to return to reception 3 times to get new wifi internet log in details and in the end gave up on watching movies as it was too much hassle to travel to reception so many times, very frustrating! Carpet in bedroom was very stained and in need of replacement.

Review 125:Big room with very large bathroom, central location, very warm.

Review 126:The breakfast was only fair...

Review 127:It was a cold Sunday afternoon, and I did not want to go out--I was cozy and my writing was going well. They loaned me the teapot, and provided me with some tea bags, so I could have a hot drink without braving the elements. Very considerate.

Review 128:Was faded and ready for some decoration.

Review 129:Close to town rail and bus station. Was warm and comfortable even in cold windy January. Breakfast good. Near to many good restaurants.

Review 130:Only had problems with Wifi and it came to a point that we gave up on trying to use it. Impossible as it was going down every 5 minutes.

Review 131:Room was confortable, big and clean. Staff is very friendly and helpful and location is great and is a great price for the location.

Review 132:wifi didn't work... we've asked three different pass to get the connection. Our room is in a noise part of the hotel.

Review 133:Location is good, and in general the room is nice to stay one night.

Review 134:Nil.

Review 135:View from balcony across the park, the river and to the railway station spectacular. Castle readily accessible by taxi. We easily booked a train to Barcelona. Shopping around the corner.
