Reviews for Appart'City Cherbourg Centre Port
Review 1:Having to pay for a WiFi that was almost useless and constantly lost connection.
Review 2:Great location convenient for Ferry and to main town. Close to supermarket for food and wine. Easy parking outside. Kitchen facilities.
Review 3:This was our second visit ,the staff are very helpful and friendly, a real credit to your company ,very clean and comfortable rooms and quiet commend to older visitors ..
Review 4:The location isn't great for walking to and from the town centre at nighttime for restaurants etc, didn't always feel safe walking through the park area opposite the hotel.
Review 5:Good for access to the train station, good facilities for cooking at a good price.
Review 6:The well equipped kitchen meant that we could prepare our own dinner and breakfast. The location across the street from Carrefour shopping centre and next door to Normandie Wines was very convenient.
Review 7:There are no staff on duty when i arrived. I had to call the hotel to get the various access codes as their text messages never materialised. Also i wasnt impressed to find that i was paying 55 euros when many people were only paying 33 euros per night.
Review 8:Location was good, easy to find from the ferry port
Review 9:Having facilities such as: a cooker, a fridge and secure car parking. We had just arrived late from the ferry so the location was great. I would definitely go again for longer to explore the area.
Review 10:The location was convenient and the facilities clean and comfortable. The best part was the desk clerk who helped me well above and beyond what you would expect when there was a problem with my rental car. When I could not leave on time, he put me back in the same room where I had stayed at the discounted rated I had paid for the first night. He was one of the best advertisements for visiting France that I experienced in two weeks in this lovely country. Thank you!
Review 11:I was fine but seemed to be the only person who had the code to open the safe, and had to do it for lots of others. I'd phoned in advance, but they were trying to phone at the time and having some difficulty. I'd also like to have known if I could use the parking rather than leave my car on the road but it hadn't been mentioned
Review 12:Easy to get to and fine for one overnight stay.
Review 13:Nothing!
Review 14:Such nice rooms with great bathroom and good kitchen (was a stovetop and microwave but no oven). The staff were lovely, fast wifi, good location very near train station, all clean and comfy :)
Review 15:WiFi wasn't very reliable
Review 16:The location to the port, 5 mins. The apartment had all we needed for a 7 night stay including secure parking at a small cost.
Review 17:we arrived late and could not access the building as we had not received two texts, one for the door code, one for the safe. fortunately a couple arrived to let us in. We blame booking.com for not letting us know vital info. not the hotel
Review 18:clean and comfy
Review 19:Out of hours , had to telephone and can only speak English. This caused some difficulty and worry.
Review 20:Pet friendly. Proximity to the port and shopping centre/ eating places. Self catering facilities, modern interior and cleanliness.
Review 21:Car alarm repeatedly going off from 5am A little difficult to find - just after a\cross the road from Les Elies, next to a Cave and macdonalds would have been very useful
Review 22:The locking system on the bedroom doors, I found a little difficult,so double check that it is locked before you go out.
Review 23:Proximity to Ferry Terminal. Price for my stay was fantastic. Area, good Restaurant near by and great shopping across from Hotel, It is a developing area, so lots going on, building etc. Parking good. Town Centre a short distance away. I would stay here again.
Review 24:More info in room or lobby on where local facilities like food etc are. Also you need to let guest know it is a code that will be required and have it texted or emailed on the day of arrival for late arriving guests
Review 25:Great location. Clean and new.
Review 26:The arrival procedure is a little complicated but I'm being very picky.
Review 27:Secure parking was excellent. The room were perfect and clean. It's a great stop-off for families on their way South.
Review 28:NOTHING
Review 29:The staff on the desk where very very nice and help full and speak good English. We loved every thing about it and Hope to stay there again in 2016.
Review 30:No reception and no English speaker on cheak in help line. Also when I did get to speak to someone after being cut off they said we had no booking. Despite this we did find our envelope and room keys in the secure box but this, after 40mins of waiting to get in
Review 31:Clean and fair breakfast
Review 32:Hotel staff called us after we checked out to say we ate breakfast and that we should pay. We didn't even see their breakfast room, so how in the world could we have eaten there?!
Review 33:Clean and spacious rooms. Very convenient location.
Review 34:Getting the codes could have been a bit fiddly.
Review 35:Amazing value for money, central location which is easy to find. Breakfast although extra was great value for money. Room was spotless.
Review 36:No bad experiences but breakfast poor value and scope by, for example Spanish standards, at 9 euros per head. Wi-Fi insecure so limiting usefulness.
Review 37:Sufficiently central location, staff attitudes and helpfulness, room size good, inexpensive (4.5 euros/night) covered more or less secure parking, good sizable bathroom.
Review 38:I have used Booking.com to book hotels for a long time and have always been very happy. This time however was a very bad experience. The apartment itself was lovely and a very good location. However we booked it for one particular reason. we wanted private parking. it was described as 'private parking is possible on site (reservation is not possible) and charges are applicable.' So when we arrived on Sunday at 19.10 I attempted to book the parking following the booking.com statement on hotel policies. I rang the number given in the hotel foyer and spoke to 3 different people over the course of 40 minutes. All were extremely unhelpful and rude. They told me I need to book in advance online. I read out the above sentence and got no help. By 19.50 I was very stressed as we had a car full of luggage and wanted specifically to book secure parking. We ended up having to park the car on the road and empty it into our room. I would appreciate an explanation of why I couldn't book parking when it was stated on the booking confirmation and I would also like you to contact the hotel to explain my annoyance and upset with the treatment I received from the three people I spoke to. I will never use this hotel again and will recommend that others don't either.
Review 39:Initially unable to access our allocated room and there were no staff in the location when we arrived. Others experienced a similar problem. Didn't like the dependency on having to use own phone to contact remote staff to get access to our room. Another guest helped us out, fortunately! No maid service at all.
Review 40:Good value for money
Review 41:I think the interconnecting door between two apartments needs better soundproofing. But only a slight problem.
Review 42:We had mistakenly booked a twin rather than a double room. The staff were incredibly helpful in helping us to change rooms. Well done to them!
Review 43:If you arrive after 5 pm, nobody is there to receive you: you have to call a phone number to get instructions, which can be annoying if you are a foreigner and don't have a local sim card. Found a cockroach in the kitchen, clearly it's not the staff's fault 'cause the room was visibly clean, probably a periodic disinfestation is needed.
Review 44:The room was spacious, perfectly clean and the kitchen well equipped. A supermarket is right in front of the hotel, which is very comfortable if you plan to cook.
Review 45:Found it very difficult to get in to the apartment because we didnt arrive until 20.30 and staff finished at 20.00. The expected SMS to explain how to access the safe didnt arrive. We were stuck for quite a while until a french man helped us.
Review 46:Great big room
Review 47:NOT a bad experience . . . but a kettle for boiling water would have been useful . . and a toaster!
Review 48:A comfortable & peaceful place with very helpful staff - most efficient, with a great arrival access system - useful to have manageress on the premises.
Review 49:The staff who ran this facility were unkind and combative. They were not only rude to us, but we witnessed heated exchanges between the manager and other guests as well.
Review 50:The room facilities were ok. The location was good- across the street from a Carrefour, and within walking distance to several restaurants.
Review 51:We got upgraded for some coincidence, and got this huge two-room apartment with fully equiped kitchen. There was even a washing machine for the dishes. And we used the lavandery too. Clean and brigth rooms, bathroom too, no complaints.
Review 52:No toaster except in the microwave and that did not seem to work (but do they ever work well?!). Would be a great addition to an otherwise v well equipped kitchenette
Review 53:Nice appartment - our second visit.
Review 54:The place looks almost brand new. We only stayed one night but would be good for a week long stay. Short walk to city center. We arrived on Sunday….not much open on Sunday. Beautiful City.
Review 55:The apartments are ideally placed for walking into the town centre, a very large supermarket and shopping mall is only over the road. The car can be safely parked in their garages for a small fee. Our apartment was clean, bright and modern, though on the small side, but well equipped. The cleaning staff and reception staff were very friendly and helpful, would definitely return.
Review 56:Not exactly a complaint but for me, personally, I felt the beds were a bit soft and could have done with firmer mattresses.
Review 57:So many good things to say! How to pick a fave?!? I'm going to say the shower! The shower was fantastic!!!
Review 58:Not much atmosphere. Just white walls. No single decoration at the wall.
Review 59:We got a big apartment with both our own room to sleep in. The apartment has all facilities; it's very modern. We did not use the kitchen, but it looked good. The location near the harbor and centre is handy and on the street it was easy to park nearby. Wifi in the room is complicated, but there is a room where you can sit down downstairs to use WiFi and that was sufficient for us.
Review 60:A bit confusing that reception on holidays works till 5 pm. Not sure, but I guess there is a way to get in later though.
Review 61:The room/flat was very clean, kitchen equipped with all utensils. Staff was kind and helpful. Location - 5 min. walking distance form the center, shopping mall just across the street.
Review 62:No kettle, had to ask for an extra pillow, no fresh towels on 2nd day unless you paid extra (€7ea!), early checkout (11am)
Review 63:We found the apartment block easily and were delighted it was so close to everywhere, wine store, Carrefour, ferry, town etc. The lady on Reception spoke good English and was very helpful, she even rang a restaurant for us to change the time and booked us a taxi!
Review 64:Nothing.
Review 65:Well located across the road from large shopping centre and friendly, helpful staff. Five minute taxi ride from ferry terminal and easily visible from from road. Room was of a good size with kitchenette and fridge. Clean, comfortable, lots of parking.
Review 66:We were not aware that the hotel was closed over lunch (when we arrived!) as the information on Booking.com only states the weekend closing times.
Review 67:The modern kitchen and bathroom
Review 68:The wifi was not free and quite complicated if you opted to pay for it.
Review 69:The receptionist (Nicholas?)was very helpful and the location was quite good, close to a major food store.
Review 70:I didn't like to have to pay for WiFi!!
Review 71:This was a great apartment to stay in, it was spotlessly clean, great location and secure parking. I would highly recommend this as a place to stay in Cherbourg.
Review 72:it had a bit a a cold feeling to it
Review 73:brand new facility quality furnishings incl. bathroom fixtures, kitchen utensils, excellent windows that eliminated any noises from the outside
Review 74:Lack of kettle
Review 75:Perfect for few nights break. Excellent room, very clean and fresh with good kitchen facilities (tho as a Brit missed a kettle!). Great location, opposite the new Carrefour and short walk from the lovely town centre. Lots to do in the area - Ravelet castle gardens well worth a visit, as well as the fort museum, all managed without a car - brill, and excellent value!
Review 76:Didn't receive the text with the safe access code but another couple called while we were there so quickly got our room key.
Review 77:15-20 min walk from the Port. Large supermarket/shopping mall over the road and only a 10min walk into town.
Review 78:My magnetic key failed, locking me out my room. No staff on site.Telephone help not working either. Had to pay to go another hotel orsleep on lobby floor! Appalling service. Do not stay here!
Review 79:While the bed in the bedroom was really comfortable, the sofa bed wasnt great. The fully equipped kitchen didnt have a kettle which was a bit irritating but a first world problem hey! Overall, good place to stay!
Review 80:The building was very modern, stylish and clean. Bathroom was a nice size with a great shower! Loved that the apartment had heating facilties and the wifi signal was great. The location was perfect, really close to restaurants and shops.
Review 81:It would be helpful if notices were printed in English.
Review 82:Helpful Staff Very Comfortable Very Clean Close to shopping Centre Close to Restaurants Good Value
Review 83:Every time any of the neighbors let the door close it shook the entire room. Also with the beds being against the same wall you can feel the others get in or out of bed. So if anything went down your neighbors are sure to hear and feel everything. Also the staff at the front desk were very rude.
Review 84:The value was excellent as well as the location. Tons of stuff to do with children or not.
Review 85:Nothing to dislike.
Review 86:Very polite, friendly and efficient staff. Very good English spoken. Well equipped kitchen and a very clean room. This is a new hotel. Excellent location, just 5 minutes walk to the railway/bus station with a shopping complex just over the road. Just 10 minutes walk to centre of Cherbourg.
Review 87:Instructions on confirmation stated I would receive a text with the password/room number on the day of arrival. This did not arrive on the day nor since. I would not re-book this product until I get some feedback as to why this happened. If it had not been for booking.com staff I would have had to go and find a room elsewhere.
Review 88:All of the above. In addition Booking.com staff were excellent in sorting out what to do when handling the issue across the page - i.e. no entry details.
Review 89:Friendly staff, cleanliness in all areas, ample off-street-free-parking and proximity to local amenities, such as shops, eating places and attractions.
Review 90:Breakfast, payed 9.5 euros p.p. and no cheese or eggs. And 1 time staff needed to come in to check our bathroom while we were still in the room. We couldnt find a good reason for the unexpected "check" . Also the rooms were a bit noisy
Review 91:Friendly staff, clean and comfortabel room/shower.
Review 92:Arrived after 9pm and have no access code to get into apartments! apparently we should have been text one! No staff on duty, but managed to get in when someone came out. Had to phone number to get code to safe to retrieve key card for our room.
Review 93:Close to Port Clean and compact
Review 94:Loud music played from some apts
Review 95:Price was excellent Staff were very helpful and friendly We could leave our bags at the reception for the day before our evening ferry home Short walk to town Close to ferry terminal Coffee machine
Review 96:The room was a bit small, little space to reach the bed.
Review 97:The reasonably priced mini apartment allowed us to use Cherbourg as a base for our excursions. We did not sleep there every night, but could travel light in the meantime. Staff was helpful, facilities are good for this kind of accommodation.
Review 98:It was like being inside a container, no care or consideration.
Review 99:Locked outside at 11pm after hours of travelling. Nobody picked up the phone, my 6month old and 4 year old and I waited for 40 minutes on the pavement making expensive calls. Hiddious. Booking.com mentioned nothing about needing a code to enter.
Review 100:The bathroom REEKED of urine upon arrival, and stayed so until we left. My partner and I run an online business and considering our Wi-fi was terrible, we had to seek solace in the lobby of another hotel (with less stars and kinder staff). I would not recommend this hotel.
Review 101:The room (bedroom etc).
Review 102:During the day there was painting activity in th room without informing us, leading to strong smell during the night. In my opinion this is not acceptable!
Review 103:Excelent for daily shopping and restauration as well as evening promenade to port area. Also pergectly positioned for car trips or car-walking trips combination. Walking trips starting directly from appartment is not realy top. Keep in mins it is a city appartment so a lot of city noices. Our meaning is value for money!
Review 104:Just a few more utensils in the kitchen would be useful, kitchen roll or cling film for example. Otherwise nothing!
Review 105:Hotel was in prime location from the Carrefour. Staff were helpful and spoke good English. Bed was comfy. Clean and very modern.
Review 106:Kitchen is too small and it's difficult to operate in it. No water kettle.
Review 107:Location: big Carrefour shopping centre is just across the street, 10 minutes walking distance from city centre, 15 minutes walking from La Cite de la Mer (must see museum with real nuclear submarine and the biggest fish tank in EU). The room was very clean.
Review 108:Lack of English. Desk! Older Manager translated not too friendly it seemed like she was doing me a favor talking to me. The TV is all French but I saw more than 50% english speakers as travelers. Poor judgment or too much French pride? Breakfast not worth the price. Go across the street to the Mall for seveal good choices.
Review 109:Location: Great seafood resturants within walking distance. Good plan for after hour arrivals with door codes. An empty small refigerator if you wanted nightime drinks. Location close to train station and port.Just a short taxi ride if you have baggage. You could walk otherwise.
Review 110:The staff couldn't speak English and was difficult to communicate, reception was closed when the ferry arrives, also I never received an sms with the code for the safe although I contact the booking centre twice prior to my arrival
Review 111:One of the best rooms I have ever booked, good value for money and convenient location
Review 112:We arrived in the evening, outside of reception hours, and the arrangements for picking up room details and key were complicated and could have led to significant anxiety and delay. We were helped by other guests, but it is a shame that there were no staff on hand to assist.
Review 113:Very comfortable accommodation in a good central location at an excellent price.
Review 114:The staff of a hotel in a major port area with ferry's to Ireland and Great Britain should at least have a basic knowledge of English. The manager had to come to the desk to translate. I now this is France but it is also the 21st century. The clerk did try but just did not understand a simple question. They also squeeze every penny out of you. It is the first time I have ever paid to store my bags for three hours. The sum was small (1.50 Euros per bag) but it seemed very petty.
Review 115:Location. Across from a major shoping center. Lots of good seafood resturants. Excellent selection competatively priced seafood. A major Food store in the Mall. The room was well appointed and would be suitable for longer stays. I will return to this hotel later this month.
Review 116:Minor problems/information we would have found useful before we went. Out of season we did not need the parking as there was road parking. We needed clearer instructions to find their (more secure) parking.
Review 117:Good for a two night stay.Near the center, modern and adequately equipped to self cater for this short stay Near the port. Friendly staff who coped with our very poor language skills.
Review 118:Not quite the same service (eg reception closed 12 to 3pm) and facilities (no air conditioning) as at a hotel but for the price overall was excellent.
Review 119:Good price, very clean
Review 120:Nothing from actual apartment just lack of clear instructions prior to arrival regarding how to use access codes.
Review 121:Spaciousness, kitchen area and facilities, clothes hanging frame to dry some clothes, cleanliness, assistance from staff as we were unused to need for codes to open front doors and access room key card from safe. Was great to have some space to spread out.
Review 122:Being locked out of our room at 1 am with no phone to call reception, they assumed we would have a phone. Expensive washing facilities. Lack of storage space
Review 123:Good view and location. Helpful staff
Review 124:The middle-age blond woman in the reception was rude and because I could not understand her limited English, she shouted at me. It's not people's fault she's not qualified for her job. She treated me as if I was staying for free! Like she's doing me a favor! Even though I tried my best and kept calm and polite not to trigger her. I was kind of scared to ask for anything afterwards. I arrived after reception hours and even though got the pin to enter the building, I needed to enter a pin for a safe with my card-key in it that was supposed to be sent by sms but they didn't. Had to call on my cell the emergency number and after 10min of listening to French, finally got the operator who spoke English and told me that they didn't sms me because my number was not French ! It's a hotel for heaven sake ! The room was facing the big avenue so I had to have windows closed at night because of the noise. The room next to mine was connected by a locked door, and I could hear people there all the time which was more than beeing annoying to me invading their privacy. I had to ask people from another room to open my door on arrival because it was so hard and they spend 5min trying. I've also seen many other guests during my stay who had problem locking or unlocking their doors. Also I didn't know that the door doesn't lock automatically so at night I had the door unlocked when I was sleeping without knowing it. Nothing happened, but it wasn't a nice feeling when I found out !
Review 125:It was 7min from the station, and about 10-15min to the center. Supper market right in the front. Didn't look dirty. And some channels of French TV could be changed to English so you might want to try that. Wifi was 2 euros per 24 hours. I don't know about their breakfast or parking because I didn't have any.
Review 126:Got locked out of our room (cards stopped working at 10 pm) and as there is no in house staff we had to get the help desk to assign us to a new room remotely. Took a number of calls, but got resolved professionally by the team.
Review 127:Close to the city and large supermarket. Great shutters on the room that help you sleep in the summer light.
Review 128:Location and decor
Review 129:everthing
Review 130:Location and price with excellent facilities
Review 131:Breakfast was a bit basic, I will make my own next time
Review 132:Staff and facilities, having a kitchenette alows fexibilty
Review 133:Simple, clean efficient. Just right for small family with teenager.
Review 134:Excellent location, within walking distance to town centre & shopping centre
The Fine Print
