Reviews for Best Western Le Donjon

Review 1:Rooms were small draughty and in need of updating. Our ceiling in the bathroom lifted up when the wind blew!!! Rooms were not as shown on your website!! Very poor.

Review 2:The location was good

Review 3:This was our favorite hotel of all the hotels we stayed in during our trip to France. The staff was excessively helpful and the people at the front desk spoke very good English. I called in a few hours before our arrival to find out where to park my rental car and they were very helpful in giving directions. There's a convenient shuttle service to transport you and your luggage from the car park to the hotel. The room was lovely and the entire hotel facility was great. We really enjoyed staying inside the city after most tourists left and the convenience as well as the clean, beautiful room. We enjoyed the express breakfast at the hotel bar. I would definitely stay here again.

Review 4:Very small room. Towel holder and toilet roll holder hanging off the wall. Getting into the bath for a shower dangerous, nothing to hold on to.

Review 5:Breakfast

Review 6:Everything! It's right in the heart of the old walled city, steps away from everything. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was wonderful, the perfect stay!

Review 7:Think it was overpriced. Weather was too cold to sit outside which was a great shame. The breakfast room inside was so so, nothing special. Plates and cups were pretty nasty, cheap, stained and should be changed. The breakfast was also so so, nothing special. Flap jacks were old and cold, was some sliced bread on display that had green mold. The orange juice was not real, but some water mixed stuff, very unpleasant. Think the hotel needed some better cleaning. The stair rails up to the breakfast room were dirty and covered in grease. Hated the sickly smell of the lillies in the reception. Nearly passed out with the sweet smell.

Review 8:Location, smack bang in the old city. Nice bedroom. Car park facilities, and drive up to hotel by hotel bus. Hotel staff friendly and helpful.

Review 9:Beautiful hotel in lovely setting. Lovely comfortable room opening onto a private garden. Wifi good. Breakfast v good. Staff very friendly and capable. Loved staying in the Cite'. Will stay here again.

Review 10:Although the hostess transferred us to and from the train station and we were grateful. It was a long walk from the town Centre to the accommodation as you need to go into the town for lunch and dinner and there are no taxis in the area.

Review 11:We were woken up at 04:00 on both mornings as the traffic coming in to service the Citadel has to do everything before 08:00 when the traffic is banned from entering. So we had rubbish collections, deliveries all outside our window. Not good.

Review 12:We liked the hotel being within the walls of the Citadel and near to restaurants etc.

Review 13:We we.re sent to a separate section of the Hotel down the road, ourroom overlooked the busy street so was extremely noisy and as theroads are cobbled, at 5am the cleaners made a lot of noise. Alsoextremely expensive

Review 14:Room was clean and comfortable with nice views

Review 15:The rooms are small, very tired with basically no furniture at all. This hotel and certanly the rooms they sell do not deserve 4star hotel rating. At the very courageous price point of well above 130 euro with out breakfast per night is certanly unfair and does not offer any fair value for the money.

Review 16:The location middle in historic city was good also the free parking service was helpful.

Review 17:Loss of electricity for 2 hours 4-6pm on one day.

Review 18:Friendly staff. Good buffet breakfast. Comfy beds, room smallish but perfectly fine for a 2 night stay.

Review 19:Bed was soooooo hard. It caused me to wake several times each night. Wouldn't stay there again because of this problem. I did mention it to Reception when I checked out, when they asked if everything had been OK with my stay.

Review 20:A lovely clean individually furnished room. Very pleasant smiling staff willing to please and genuinely wanting you to enjoy your time at the hotel. Brilliant location being in the Medieval City. Apart from the hard bed, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this hotel and would have rated it 10 out of 10.

Review 21:The location in the medieval city of Carcassonne is absolutely breathtaking. The staff and facilities were wonderful and perfect for our needs. Would recommend and would happily go back again

Review 22:The hotel seemed a bit tired and the room smelt badly of damp. The mattress, pillow and duvet also seemed old and weren't very comfortable.

Review 23:Great location within the city walls.

Review 24:We booked 2 months in advance and I requested a privilege garden room and was told they would do their best to put us in one. We did not get a garden room and the privilege room we did get was not that big.

Review 25:The hotel was very nice although the room seemed a little small for the premium of a privilege room.

Review 26:Its a minor thing, but the range of food at breakfast was possibly a little limited, but that's really nit picking.

Review 27:The location in the old city, all sites are literally on the doorstep.

Review 28:Room was very small for price. Door hits bed as you open it.

Review 29:Front desk staff friendly and helpful. Room clean, bathroom bright. Bed small but comfortable. A\C worked well. Right in center of medieval town.

Review 30:The breakfast buffet was good, but there wasn't much to offer in terms of cooked breakfast.

Review 31:The location was fantastic! Also, the staff were very helpful. The room & ensuite were incredibly spacious & furnished to a high standard.

Review 32:Ask local shops for restaurant recommandations, the one we received from the front desk was not a good choice: Adelaide restaurant main course was way too salty....

Review 33:The staff was absolutely wonderfull, when you arrive at the bottom of the city you start to appreciate the people that drive you into the coty and help you get to your hotel. Once your there, the staff are more than welcoming and always available to help you out

Review 34:I would have liked a Double bed that isn't two singles joined. More tea and coffee. Breakfast included. The upkeep of the hotel was a little dated.

Review 35:Location was beautiful.

Review 36:Basic bathroom fittings, old fashioned. The shuttle service was a bone shaker.Drinks at the bar too expensive.

Review 37:Great location for Cite, restaurants, the ambience of the town.

Review 38:finding the parking (a map would have been helpful) and need for transfer to and from hotel (small delay in leaving)

Review 39:conveniently located within the old city, personal terrace

Review 40:We booked this hotel on the basis that bookings.com said it had a pool, it was very hot at this time of year and were looking forward to being able to cool off in the pool with our young son, however when we asked reception staff where the pool was the hotel staff looked at us blankly and told us there was no pool!

Review 41:Great Location

Review 42:no atmosphere....more use could be made of the garden area as a pleasant place to sit and have a quiet drink. obvious that the bar is little used. breakfast should be inclusive.! my husband likes a good breakfast ...I do not. we were not allowed to sit in the garden with our 'petit' breakfast...only in the bar !!

Review 43:location

Review 44:The thing that irked me on two occassions were when my enquiries at the desk were interrupted by the acceptance of a phone call in mid-conversation.

Review 45:I enjoyed the friendly efficiency and helpfulness of the staff. The comfortable air and relaxed feel of the building.Breakfast in the Garden.

Review 46:My room was very small and smelled of stale cigarettes. The staff did give me some air freshener. It was very difficult to open both our bags at the same time.

Review 47:The location was worth everything. it was amazing and would stay here again without a care.

Review 48:Nice, rustic hotel, which you would expect staying in the old city. Reception staff was outstanding. Beautiful garden. 30 Seconds walk to three different restaurants. Best one is: "Le Trencavel Bistro"

Review 49:If you drove in, when you check out make sure to book your luggage/transfer shuttle back to the car park. Otherwise it might take 45 minutes or more before a shuttle is available to take you to your car.

Review 50:The location of the hotel is unbeatable. It is just around the corner from both the keep and the basilica and close to lots of shopping and eating. Wonderful place and good value.

Review 51:Friendly staff especially the guys who ferry the luggage. staying WITHIN the walls of Carcassonne and strolling around at night and early morning when it was empty Breakfast in the garden

Review 52:There were no problems really - I have had better breakfasts but this one was fine.

Review 53:Fantastic location great hotel. We had two rooms which were in the garden and had seating outside. Great service all the way and the ride from the car park to the hotel in the shuttle was great fun.

Review 56:Although there was nothing at all wrong with the room, the decor was dull and uninspiring and the overall feel was a little dissapointing, especially considering the character and charm of the public spaces. In our view the value for money wasn't great but I think that was mainly because of the location. Would we stay here again? Yes.

Review 57:Location within the walls in a beautiful old building. The free parking is a plus and very easy. Our privilege room had coffee making facilities and a small patio area which we enjoyed.

Review 58:Nothing really although the car arrangements are a tint bit of a hassle. Nothing at all serious though.

Review 59:Central location of property within the old city of Carcassonne. Resulting easy access to attractions and restaurants. First class, very helpful staff. Breakfast in the garden - excellent. Shuttle drive from car park.

Review 60:Some of staff was telling wrong information regarding transport which we did not find helpful at all.

Review 61:The location was really convenient for all. Our room was huge and comfortable.

Review 62:The setting, staff friendliness and helpfulness, the room, general comfort, the meal in the Brasserie, parking facilities and the price. Really everything.

Review 63:Noisy doors. Faulty door meant keycard didn't work properly. Noisy guests in room above ours. Small bath. Shower gel ran out mid shower!

Review 64:Location. Free WIFI. Comfortable bed. Clean and tidy. Complimentary slippers!

Review 65:Only negative comment is that the car parking not explained on the web site.

Review 66:Hotel is fab, location and experience of being inside a castle was brilliant. Well worth a visit.

Review 67:Air conditioning not cool enough, and didn't seem to be adjustable. Shower difficult to get into.

Review 68:Located in centre of mediaeval city. Wonderful breakfasts, in lovely garden - had to stop myself sitting there all day.

Review 69:Badly misconceived 'Intro to the history of the city' actually intense tour selling talk, with ridiculous prices- something I would not expect from a hotel of this quality and charm

Review 70:Fantastic location with excellent view from bedroom windows, charming staff and not spoilt even though it is ina highly touristic location.

Review 71:no cupboards for clothes, one wardrobe but no drawers We had to leave them in the case.

Review 72:amazing location. Free Wifi in room. stuff extremely helpful.

Review 73:Apparently there was a small problem with two or three rooms so we were upgraded to the five star Hotel de la Cite. We found that out when the hotel sent a small van to rescue us, we tried walking with bags in 35 degree heat as there were no taxis at the train station. Excellent service by the driver who took us to the holt, then accompanied us to our room, making sure we were happy.

Review 74:There was a huge structural beam running across our room between the beds and bathroom that you had to step over and there was five very steep flights of stairs you needed to climb to get to this room. These are two of the reasons for my poor review.

Review 75:Location of the hotel is excellent.Service was okay. GPS took us to outside the walls of the city.

Review 76:We called you prior to our visit as we were concerned that your Michelin mentioned restaurant maybe fully booked....you said it was ok and booked us in. When we got there you said it was closed for the two nights we were there!

Review 77:Our WiFi was weak and slow.

Review 78:People were friendly and helpful. The location was right inside the city which could have been a problem, but the parking outside the city was free and they have very helpful people to shuttle you back and forth with your luggage. Once inside the city everything is in walking distance. The associated restaurant is high class. Many fine restaurants are in the city.

Review 79:Wifi was spotty, rooms were sparse, but clean. Staff was not helpfull when asked questions about the area.

Review 80:location was good within the walls, the hotel was clean.

Review 81:Perfect base for Carcassonne, the porters were exceptionally helpful and friendly escorting us and our mororbike in and out if the city. Wonderful to have an opportunity to stay in the heart of this lovely city. Truly magical

Review 82:There is a haunted house right next door to the Ramparts section of the hotel. We could hear some of the screams from it. However, the haunted house did close earlier enough and open late enough that it did not interfere with our sleeping.

Review 83:The room was very modern, clean and comfortable and the location inside the walls was convenient. We greatly enjoyed our stay here. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.

Review 84:We were not able to adjust the room temperature, I called the front desk for help and was told after a five minute conversation that there was nothing he could do at that time, I should call again after seven in the morning. Not an ideal response with the room being too warm for sleeping. I went to the front desk in the morning and talked to the front desk in the morning and was told they had a central heating system and could not adjust the temperature for each room.

Review 85:You are staying in the castle grounds, pretty impressive sights

Review 86:Arrived by car, expecting to have to drag luggage to the hotel - - Surprise, they pick you and your luggage up at the carpark in the moat of the castle and drive you directly to the hotel. Loved having a room in Le Cite. Could walk around and explore after dark. Great views at night looking back at the Cite walls (well illuminated) a very short walk from the hotel.

Review 87:Thought the breakfast was poor for the price, staff did not keep the coffee, bread etc topped up. Asked for the driver to take us back to the car for 8.00am the night before our departure. On the morning we left, we were told there would be no-one to do it until 9.00am - too late for our flight, so we walked our suitcases to the carpark.

Review 88:Great location, good ambience.

Review 89:Air conditioning too hot during 1st 2 nights. Took a bit of time for management to fix ....quite a lot of people unhappy due to hot temperature in bedrooms. please note for future reference

Review 90:Sitting areas very comfortable and garden very relaxing after walking around during the day. staff could not do enough to help during our stay

Review 91:It was wonderful to be in the walled city. The hotel was well organized from the parking lot to your room to back to the parking lot. They made it so easy.

Review 92:Given a room in an annex to the main hotel, next to a "House of Horrors", so regular screams from customers could be heard.

Review 93:Easy access to the historical parts of Carcassonne, lots of restaurants to choose from.

Review 94:Air Con wasn't working I wouldn't stay any longer than 2/3 nights as not much else to do after the castle and tour of the town which is not very big. We walked round it several times during our stay. We never visited the new town though.

Review 95:The location was inside the walled city. Close to the castle. Nice bars and restaurants.

Review 96:Location and friendliness are always important. This hotel was comfortable and welcoming, knowledgeable about the surroundings and local facilities. We relaxed by walking around the fortified city, admiring all it had to offer and then having a comfortable room to come back to.

Review 97:We like to make cups of tea/ coffee and I had to keep asking for extra tea bags and milk - 6 of each per day would be better. A garden facing room may have been quieter- noise due to early morning garbage vehicles and late night loud people passing by.

Review 98:loved the location in the centre of everything; its ambience of reliability and comfort; high level of presentation; staff provided answers to our questions and queries with patience and smiles; punctual arrangements to arrive and depart. We would be delighted to stay at the hotel again - had room 1 in the main building. Loved the magnifying mirror in the bathroom.

Review 99:We were tired from our journey and tried the hotel restaurant and were disappointed with the service and the quality of the food

Review 100:The location, view from our room

Review 101:Noisy in the morning from deliveries and bin men.

Review 102:Staff were very helpful and friendly both at reception at the restaurant. Hotel very nice - even better as our room upgraded on arrival to a suite.

Review 103:Of course the location ( inside the walls of the medieval cite of Carcassonne ) is stunning but the hotel itself is like an oasis - calm , peaceful & beautifully presented.

Review 104:leaving!

Review 105:Access to all parts of the medieval city is within easy walking distance. Hotel bedrooms clean and well kept although limited on space for large suitcases. The hotel has a wonderful secluded garden for soaking up the sun and relaxing and the staff are very helpful with good English skills.

Review 106:We were in a garden room which was very spacious and comfortable with a table and chairs in the afternoon sun. We had fantastic weather which helped. Would not be so good if it was raining as there is no cover between hotel and room.

Review 107:Being shunted away from the main hotel to an annex across the street. Being hit with a sales pitch for a Best Western loyalty card on checking-in. Poor WiFi.

Review 108:Looks beautiful, public areas around bar have a great feel.

Review 109:Extremely courteous staff, wonderful location and tasteful interiors. The only problem was the very noisy rubbish collection and street cleaning at 4am, outside our window.

Review 110:Nothing to complain about.

Review 111:Everything was very good, especially the restaurant. Away from the tourist site and overcrowded area but close enough to stroll anywhere. Best value for money. Classy place.

Review 112:Our room was very badly configured with a tiny WC in a closet-like space which opened directly onto the head of the bed. The waste on the sink had also come apart although this was repaired promptly. Room heating could only be adjusted by Reception.

Review 113:The hotel is in a great location and worth booking for that alone. We were with two younger couples and they were happy with their rooms. Champagne and nibbles for guests on New Years Eve was a nice touch.

Review 114:The heating did not work completely well. It looked like the engine was not powerful enough and it took long to heat the room, although this was a minor issue.

Review 115:Great location to walk around the Cite. Nice and quiet hotel with helpful and multi-lingual staff.

Review 116:Took a little while to get served in the bar as we had to find someone at reception but a very minor problem in an otherwise perfect stay.

Review 117:Fantastic view of the Chateau from our window in the main building, staff were very friendly and helpful and the rooms were very clean and comfortable.

Review 118:Noisy. Banging shutters all night (the wind was exceptional though). The bottle bank outside emptied at 5am! Street cleaners early too...etc. The loo seat in the bathroom kept falling off. We would have appreciated a plug for the bath that worked.

Review 119:Perfect location and help with our baggage from the free car park outside the cite to our room. We booked the prestige room and therefore had enough space for our 3 day stay. Nice bathroom.

Review 120:The bar service seems to be from another hotel, with pretty much less quality than the rest. For me, would be better a good recommendation to go to another place, instead of this poor range of beverages...

Review 121:It's amazing to see the Castle from your window when you wake up. You can go dinner inside Citè and be in the hotel in 5 minutes. Although, the fact of being inside the walls makes the space very restricted and the room it's not very large, but it's comfortable and cool (in december, with rainy and windy weather, outside was extremely cold).

Review 122:The toilet was in a small area and separate from the bathroom

Review 123:The staff were most welcoming and helpful. I would return to this Hotel and highly recommend it to friends.

Review 124:Room was a bit stale-smelling when arrived (late November and pretty quiet) Bathroom ceiling flapped in the wind and the shower water was only just warm.

Review 125:Comfy bed. Wandering around old Citie

Review 126:Hotel Restaurant closed on Sundays not sure if just out of season. No one offered us the hotel transfer from car park to hotel or the other way round.

Review 127:Excellent location, comfortable, and welcoming.

Review 128:Location of our room because it was not within the main hotel building, the hotel was not full.was this because we did not book direct?

Review 129:Location good,security good.reception staff very helpful

Review 130:Breakfast is not included in the price whichever makes your stay that bit more expensive.

Review 131:Great location. The staff were really friendly and very helpful. Our room was a good size, with great views of the castle and the bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I've slept In.

Review 132:professional service, looked great inside and out, fantastic room and en suite, good breakfast. great location for out of season (the hotel rooms at the front overlook a rooftop restaurant that in peak periods would be very noisy in all likelihood).
