Reviews for Hôtel Richelieu
Review 1:The elevator is tiny and it was tricky to get in there on my own with all my stuff.
Review 2:A decent hotel, nothing overly exciting, the room was basic, but comfortable. I normally don't like street-facing rooms, but the sound proofing was so good that I didn't hear anything from the noise of the traffic.
Review 3:A little too thick walls, so you can hear neighbours showering, walking.
Review 4:Helpfull staff speaking English, every day clean room and exchange of towels (even when we did not put it for exchange), location.
Review 5:There was quite a lot of noise/talking in the corridoors early in the morning( cleaning staff?)We asked for another pillow each and they didn't produce them until the next night although they promised to do it when we asked.
Review 6:Nothing bad to say
Review 7:This is an old style hotel, not modern but well kept and maintained. The service and facilities provided everything we needed and nothing we didn't. In the pricey Menton hotel market, this is a reasonably priced haven.
Review 8:Friendly, speak also english and german, Location is very good, good value, comfortable mattress, good wireless, shops around the corner, Underground parking close by (not part of the hotel but very convenient)
Review 9:We loved the location, and enjoyed the spa facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and very comfortable. I had a broken foot and the staff accomadated me whenever possible, turning our business trip a great pleasure vacation trip.
Review 10:Breakfast probably best taken in the town.
Review 11:Ever one tried so hard to make the stay perfect and very nearly succeeded. Spent location in city centre and 200 Mtrs from sea front.
Review 12:My two rooms were booked as both with street view. One ok, the second (room number 7) was at the back with a view of the yard which they hoped you would not see as they had a curtain which you could not pull back...very depressing. I certainly would not have stayed more than one night.
Review 13:Room was very clean, staff very polite and helpful
Review 14:For travelers with dogs - there is no gras near the hotel. Especially for old dogs it could be a problem to find an appropriate place for WC...
Review 15:"French style" windows, hotel location
Review 16:Would be great if a kettle is provided in the room so you don't need to go to the shared kitchen (next to the dinning room) which is open within limited hours. But there are plenty nice places around to go and have a nice cup of coffee. So you may not need it.
Review 17:1) Love the old style of the building, i.e. the lift and the stairs, the dining room, the high ceiling and window, the carved wooden frame of the mirror, the colour scheme of curtains and beddings. 2) Very friendly and helpful manager and staff. 3) Perfect location.
Review 18:location was perfect... 5 mins from the station, 5 mins from the (sort of) main square, and 5 mins from the beach. also, monte carlo, nice, ventimiglia, antibes, cannes, etc, are SO accessible on the train (and cheap) it's amazing. lastly, it's hot down there, trust me... but the air con in the room was genuinely effective and kept the room cool at all times
Review 19:Although you can't hear others in their rooms, you can hear everything in the corridors.
Review 20:Very helpful staff. Good wifi (although you have to keep signing in) Great location between the main street of Menton and the old town and close proximity to the sea. Had AC too, very appreciative of this!
Review 21:We had the 'Do not disturb' sign, and while being at the bath (in the quiet hours), one of the staff members started calling and then came up knocking insistently at the door to get paid for the room one day before leaving. It was very rude and extremely annoying.
Review 22:The location.
Review 23:great location, only minutes from the beach but in the centre of town. facilities were all I needed for my six night stay, room had cooling, shower, whb and wc, comfortable bed. Great value for money.
Review 24:There were no instructions regarding how to get back into the hotel at night. The intercom was not easy to use.
Review 25:This hotel is in a great location, with a short walk to the train station and the shops.
Review 26:Moth in bed and wife had a small bite- not sure where from exactly. Hotel is getting upgrades but can hear through doors sometimes noisy folks.
Review 27:Manager provided great service. Affordable- near many good shops and restaurants. Beach nearby. Good AC. Staff friendly and helpful.
Review 28:I had arrived at 11.30am and was allowed to leave bags in the breakfast room. I asked to use a bathroom- which was available. However there was no sink in which to wash hands.
Review 29:The staff and management assisted in any way they could to make our stay enjoyable- this was good as they were very busy but took the time to assist when needed.
Review 30:The wifi did not work the best, but it could have just been my device.
Review 31:A bunch of my friends and I were travelling to Monaco and wanted an inexpensive place to stay for the night, and the Hotel Richelieu was perfect. It is well-located to the beach and a bunch of yummy restaurants, and the people at the desk were very helpful in helping us find things to do and eat in our short stay there.
Review 32:As it's an old property the doors were thin so it's a fairly noisy place (but characterful) and the breakfast was pretty basic for the price. Small room and bathroom but to be expected for the price!
Review 33:The hotel was small and traditional but well priced and very well located. Had to work while there and the wifi was very good.
Review 34:We booked 2 x singles with balcony and were given back rooms which were half the size and with no balcony. We tried to complain but the receptionist didn't speak english and by the time we finally reached the manager we were told it was too late to change rooms. There was no refund offered for the difference at all, only a late checkout.
Review 35:The location was great in the centre of town as long as you don't mind a bit of noise
Review 36:Older furniture. Lamp without light bulb. Reception not always open. Owner hardly there.
Review 37:Located center of town. Close to attractions and restaurants. Walking distance to train station and old town.
Review 38:The hotel does not serve evening meals and owing to the early time of year there weren't as many places to eat but excellent food was served by all those that were available
Review 39:A bus or trains were just a few minutes from this hotel for our visit to the tennis. Also for visiting Nice, and Cannes etc. Also a short train journey took us on a day trip into Italy.
Review 40:The rooms not all soundproof. I happened to get a room near the reception and was able to hear people talking and the sound was disturbing my sleep. The break fast is very basis and there is no option to ask for more as everything is serviced by the staff. Her English is very poor, not able to ask for anything beyond what she offered
Review 41:Location was really good. Just a 5 mins walk from the Buddha beach. There is also a IndoChina restaurant which was very reasonable and good.
Review 42:Nothing really bad, considering hotel category. Only two small notes: - Shower cubicle was very very small and without any shelf inside. Very hard to have a comfortable shower (however water temperature and quantity was good!). - Door lock doesn't look like very safe
Review 43:Staff was very talkative and helpful. Position was excellent for visiting Menton, and Monte Carlo. Room was quiet enough.
Review 44:The bathroom was extremely small. The wc was not clean and was smelly. This hotel was not a good experience.
Review 45:The location is fair, but it is impossible to park on the street. You have to add 10 euro to your stay for parking.
Review 46:This hotel is a great value for the location; in the heart of the St Germain, but near the Bon Marche. Great access to everything you want to do and see in Paris! I lived in Paris many years, and know hotels in the area. This is a very good value!
Review 47:This is the cheap and cozy place to stay if you have something to do in expensive Monaco. Back to this same hotel after a few years. Still great for the price if not better. Polite staff, great location. Booked for two nights then extended my stay. I'll be back.
Review 48:Kind of "generic" hotel, not very homey. But if you expect a good, clean place to sleep and don't expect luxury or anything, there is nothing to dislike, really.
Review 49:Affordable option in an otherwise rather pricey area. Good wifi, clean rooms, exactly what you'd expect.
Review 50:I know it's a french thing but a couple of pieces of bread and butter plus a hot chocolate is not a decent breakfast and certainly not worth the 7 euros. It's not even close to a below average continental. Go for a short walk and get some actual nutrients.
Review 51:Generally a very nice hotel in all respects, no issues to speak of and good value in a nice spot.
Review 52:Tiny lift to 1st floor to book in :-)
Review 53:Close proximity to the centre of the city, two streets back from the ocean front, short bus ride to Monaco for one euro 50 rooms basic & clean & if you are one a budget it is good value for money.
Review 54:Decor tired but manager said improvements imminent. Bathroom was squeezy but not impossible.
Review 55:Location good, close to main shopping, cafes etc and not far from the sea. Had a room at the rear so it was quiet. The manager was helpful & breakfast service cheerful. Very satisfied considering the price.
Review 56:very noisy at the front of the hotel. sleeping with the window open was impossible.
Review 57:convenient location and friendly staff. comfortable beds, clean and tidy wifi was well organised and easily accessed basic but met my needs very well
Review 58:Reception closes at 21.00. If you will reach to the hotel later than 21.00, be careful no one will be there. There is no possibility to get a drink (water) in the hotel. There is no hair dryer. They don't replace soap or shampoo. Price was higher than it was written in the hotel. Better or same quality hotels around were cheaper. They charged all the amount at the first day (many hotels charge when checking out), probably they know that people can change the hotel when they found out that there are cheaper and better hotels around. Although it was written that room was with city view, room had the view of wall of other buildings at the behind site, although I was mentioned that I prefer a room with city view in front when I was checking in.
Review 59:Hotel was not dirty, but very very basic.
Review 60:Nothing ,all good to report. Thank you all at Hotel Richelieu for adding to our wonderful holiday in the Gem town that is Menton.
Review 61:Great location for town. 5 mins to train & bus & beach on foot. Air con in room brilliantly good. Television had 2 english channels. Staff friendly, maids great job. Comfy bed. Good furnishings plenty drawer space & wardrobe space. Nice shower room got plenty soaps & gels supplied. Stayed many areas of riviera & Menton before but this hotel for price & all mentioned above is a true bargain would stay again if back in Menton.
Review 62:Because of our schedule, we would have liked a later check out, even for a cost but they were quite strict...everyone out by 11!!
Review 63:Great location and excellent value. Rooms were spacious and quite soundproof, with the windows closed. We were at the back of the hotel which was probably as noisy as the front when we had the windows open.
Review 64:Our particular room was quite dark, and the bathroom was in very poor shape. A little depressing considering the circumstances. However, our daughter had a very nice room on the 3rd floor which was airy and light.
Review 65:The staff were very helpful when my husband became ill, and they made calls to the hospital on my behalf, and called taxis when needed. Much appreciated!
Review 66:Seagull nested abound at nights on the nearby roofs and we had to use ear plugs to get any sleep from 4 a.m. onwards as they screeched.
Review 67:The hotel is in the center of Menton and is near to everything. Within the walking distance you can find beach, market, concert halls. The new owner of the hotel is very friendly, speaks several languages and and full of ideas of how to improve service in his hotel. Location, and service worh the money.
Review 68:wifi was intermittent, a usual issue.
Review 69:The location was excellent not far from the beach and everything else, the room was a fair size for the price in a prime tourist town like the Riviera. Highly recommended.
Review 70:bed a bit short for taller guests small elevator/lift could sometimes hear guests' tv next door (not a huge problem though)
Review 71:welcoming staff clean premises close to both train station and beach air conditioning worked well
Review 72:The hotel is on a main road and my room was on the road side of the hotel. Consequently the room had traffic at all times of the night and day. So you either had to open the window when the room was hot and suffer the road noise (the two wheeled vehicles all seem to have the engine silencers removed) or close the window which quietened the road noise and endured the heat. Unfortunately this is beyond the hotels control.
Review 73:The service was excellent and staff very helpful even though they did not speak much English.
Review 74:Poor English speaking but it wasn't a problem. Nothing to dislike.
Review 75:Menton is very nice town, and hotel is just what you need. Clean, comfortable rooms for two people. Garage and beach is nearby.
Review 76:The bed
Review 77:The price and the location and the cleanes
Review 78:Good location 10 min from the train station and easy to find, friendly and helpful staff, rooms cleaned well, the heating is adjustable in the room.
Review 79:The room was small/tight--but you get what you pay for!
Review 80:It was fine
Review 81:Noise ! Late at night ! Poor decoration in bathrooms/ plastic shower curtain!
Review 82:Location
Review 83:Breakfast basic.
Review 84:Great location, helpful staff.
Review 85:Great central location
Review 86:No hairdryer fridge or coffee machine very thin walls and no secure bedroom lock
Review 87:Near beach train bus restaurants

Review 89:A bit dated

Review 108:Central location right by the beach and the city, excellent views, the balcony was great
Review 109:Location is great to walk to buses, train and beach. Menton is a quieter easier Nice.
Review 110:Beautiful sea and towns of cote d'azure. Comfortable and rapid transport. Good shopping.
Review 111:Parking is too far from Hotel.
Review 112:Shower was a bit small, dont drop the soap.
Review 113:Excellent air con, brilliant town centre location, but just out enough to make it quiet
Review 114:Old, not renovated hotel
Review 115:The price
Review 116:The beds were lop sided. The towels in the bathroom were old and worn out.
Review 117:In the middle of Menton. Easy access to restaurants and the beach.
Review 118:Bed was in need of a good spring clean underneath the fresh bedding.
Review 119:Good homely feel. A Traditional hotel with Helpful staff.
Review 120:In the center of Menton, great value for money. Train station 10 min walk to Monaco. Discount on parking garage around the corner. Friendly staff
