Reviews for The Gem
Review 1:On our first night, zero hot water in our bathroom (problem fixed for day 2, but zero explanation). Also, no door or other division between the very large bedroom and its en-suite bathroom AND WC. We reserved two rooms. One had almost too many wall electricity outlets, the other had far too few.
Review 2:Genuinely warm welcome, informative staff. This is not a hotel, it's a large family house which includes a small number of purpose-built paying guest rooms.
Review 3:Very friendly and welcoming to us. The room was charming with everything you need. Great bath and comfortable bed. We enjoyed our breakfast and met some other international guests. Quiet and secure and not too far to walk into the centre of town.
Review 4:The Gem was a gem! The lovely Estelle who owns the place couldn't do enough to make it easy and comfortable. I would highly recommend the Gem to anyone staying in Amiens!
Review 5:Asking to pay the bill at arrival, even before the room was shown. This was rejected of course. So first we have seen the room (was very OK), then 10 min later (after quick refreshment at room) you have to wait downstairs 15 min at empty reception desk to pay whilst you want to go out to see the town. Not done In Europe in this price range, in my opinion.
Review 6:Clean hotel, big nice room. Quiet area. No parking problems in the street.
Review 7:We adored the friendly, warm and personal touch provided by the lovely manager. She was so welcoming and helpful. The venue was delightful and we would love to return
Review 8:My host, Estelle, was fabulous! She was kind and warm and gave me the best advise on what to see and experience and where to eat in Amiens. Every suggestion was absolutely perfect!
Review 9:Estelle spoke perfect english and gave us good pointers and directions. She gave us a handy map we kept all week to get around Amiens. She also went online and sorted out our train times to Paris and advised us to us the train for that journey. She also recommended using the car to go to Disneyland which we did.The breakfasts were excellent, they catered for those that didn't like coffee or tea with hot chocolate, they also served English tea if you preferred. She was very flexible on breakfast times especially when we were late up after the Disneyland trip. Her son was very helpful and carried bags and catered for us on a morning with anything we needed, a big thank you to him.We really enjoyed our stay, we packed a lot in and did spend a day in Amiens and a few nights. Amiens is beautiful, the cathedral, rivers and garden areas are superb.French is very much the spoken language here so be prepared to muck in and have a go, the locals are all very helpful and patient. We booked a train to Paris with the English ticket machines and it's a good trip if you pick the direct train, approx 1hr 10mins or slightly more depending on stops but its a direct route to Paris Gare du Nord and once in Paris onto the Metro we had a very good, trouble free trip doing Paris this way.Disneyland wasn't a bad trip either but you WILL need a Sat Nav especially if attempting to return in the dark at 12am midnight! Though there is an SNCF station there so that might be an easier option for some. The Gem is beautiful and once behind its huge doors you are in a world of your own. Parking on the road is free and at both car parks at either end of the road but we managed the road outside every time.We loved Amiens and wandered into the town every night, its about 10mins from The Gem to the nicest areas, we had no trouble and never felt uneasy it's a friendly city. The Station is about 15mins away so The Gem very central to the best areas.Thank you for a wonderful stay.
Review 10:2 inconvenient things: 1) The place has no elevator, and even if the boy at the reception has helped a lot by carrying our luggage upstairs, it was not very comfortable to take the stairs every time we needed to get to our room. 2) The bedroom and bathroom were not separated by a door. The toilet was almost next to the bed...
Review 11:I liked the location (walking distance from the main attractions). The rooms were quiet, very spacious, very clean, and had all needed features. The beds were large and comfortable.
Review 12:Lots of stairs to climb but it did t bother us as we are quite fit
Review 13:When we approached the property tired and worn out we were a little disappointed, however this quickly changed to delight when we went through the front door, the property is beautifully restored and the outside space is a real bonus. The family are a delight, especially the little one!!
Review 14:lovely large room , really nice family ,the lady couldnt be more helpful , spoke perfect english which was great as my french is non existant, street parking right outside, excellent wifi , lovely breakfast ,walking distance to main attractions
Review 15:Estelle, the proprietor, was extremely helpful in every way, and the service was beyond excellent. I would give 20 stars if I could! An interesting old building, completely renovated in a very tasteful style, 3 minutes walk from Picardie Museum, 8 minutes walk from cathedral.
Review 16:Not at all a problem for us as we live in a tall thin house with 45 steps from kitchen to bedroom, but I suspect that some older guests might find the stairs difficult
Review 17:Warm welcome, help with shelter for our classic car, beautiful house, marvellous room, quiet location a short walk from the centre of Amiens, excellent restaurant recommendation
Review 18:Somewhat Expensive. But it was Christmas during the market time.
Review 19:Large room, huge shower, nice connecting room for a child.
Review 20:I was displeased with how the bathroom and bedroom were not separated by a door.
Review 21:Large clean room with a bit of character.
Review 22:The building is attractive. The bedroom is large and the quality of the furnishings is high.
Review 23:loved the reception on arrival. Quiet residence. Good recommendations for meals and things to do
Review 24:Everything, really.
