Reviews for Hotel Restaurant Charbonnel
Review 1:We love Brantome and the Charbonnel is in the perfect location, right on the river. Rooms are lovely. Staff friendly, although there is one waiter who could smile a bit more! We have stayed 3 times and will definitely be back.
Review 2:We were served drinks by two waiters, one was charming and chatty, the other surly and very unhelpful. I thought the drinks were a little expensive.
Review 3:Lovely comfortable hotel, relaxed feel, great breakfast, charming staff (with one exception).
Review 4:Nothing major but the wine waiter at dinner not proficient at pouring a bottle between 5 people. Twice! Had 5 nights there and the same piece of string was on the floor, don't think the room was vacuumed.
Review 5:Staff wonderful, helped with a variety of requests from booking lunches to arranging assistance for flat battery! Genuinely interested in how your day went.
Review 6:We couldn't get the wifi to work and they weren't very helpful when I asked about it. The lady made a dismissive comment about how iPhones use more signal than other phones and that's why my phone couldn't connect(!)
Review 7:Loved the location!! It was breathtakingly pretty.
Review 8:You have to 'ask' for a code if you plan on being outside of the hotel after 9:30pm. Felt more like being at school camp then a hotel. Staff at the bar/restaurant will happily ignore you. Consider it an honor should they serve you.
Review 9:Location was perfect
Review 10:Our accommodation was not in the hotel but in an annex some 50 meters from the main hotel. It was over the hotels laundry room and a food preparation area. The room doors were self closing and closed with a loud bang every time anyone came in or out. The rooms were far from soundproof as stated in details. No mention of family rooms not situated in hotel. The room looked out onto a public car park with people coming and going from 5am until after midnight daily. Completely untrue in terms of description.
Review 11:It was a bit noisy- there was loud music playing in a restaurant opposite until quite late Room on the small side
Review 12:Staff helpful Location fantastic by the river
Review 13:On the booking confirmation I had a balcony, when I arrived no balcony available, no wifi no bbc television although it was said in the hotel brochure that they were both available
Review 14:hotel very nice good location
Review 15:Restaurant and breakfast were very pricey
Review 16:Good location for visiting chenenoux chateaux. Quaint little village. Comfortable room with good facilities. Nice swimming pool
Review 17:Need to watch freshness of bread for morning breakfast.
Review 18:Best Location in town overlooking the river and the bridge. Cleanliness and breakfast looking onto the river.
Review 19:The restaraunt was a little overpriced -perhaps I chose badly but the chef seemed intent on causing hypertension!
Review 20:The hotel was very picturesque right on the river and the rooms were beautifully furnished -the staff were very friendly and helpful
Review 21:The hotel is situated right in the centre of town with car parks close by. Once we had checked in we were shown where to park our car for free. The quadruple room was well equipped with two large beds and a small living area. The traditional French windows opened onto a view of the river. The owners were particularly friendly and helpful.
Review 22:The room was rather small, with nowhere to store clothes apart from a narrow wardrobe.
Review 23:The location - very central. The view from the balcony. The helpfulness of the staff.
Review 24:Nothing
Review 25:The staff and welcome was excellent - helpful and courteous. The restaurant was superb offering traditional regional dishes - but what really impressed were the special dishes the chef prepared for my wife who is a vegetarian
Review 26:Breakfast is good but somehow not worth the 12€...
Review 27:Nice and friendly staff. Wide room and perfectly working wifi. Beautiful restaurant not to miss. Stunning location!
Review 28:The room was supposed to be a superior double, we considered it to be a standard double. No bath and no tea/coffee making facilities Only 1 small bottle of drinking water in the room for 2 people
Review 29:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good view from balcony
Review 30:We arrived on a Monday and discovered that the restaurant was closed. Apparently closed on a Sunday and Monday. We were diverted to a bistro 50 yards away to eat, which was ran by the same people. Food was good however the hotel restaurant was supposed to be better
Review 31:The hotel is positioned alongside and over-looking the river.
Review 32:A minor niggle was disposable plastic glasses in the bathroom, one of which was cracked and leaked. I am surprised that a hotel of this high standard does not provide proper glasses. Tea and coffee making facilities would have further enhanced our wonderful experience at this hotel.
Review 33:Our room was beautifully designed in a traditional French style. But the highlight for us was the restaurant... amazing food and wine at reasonable prices!
Review 34:The heating in the room was an old fashioned central heating system and was difficult to control. We were a little TOO warm on a chilly evening.
Review 35:We had a spacious and well heated room on a chilly evening in March. The first floor room had a balcony overlooking the river. The restaurant is first class and the staff very helpful.
Review 36:This is not a criticism but I would prefer to have the shower fixed to the wall rather than dangling from the bath tap, otherwise the bathroom facilities were excellent.
Review 37:All the staff are very courteous and attentive. The front of house staff (reception and restaurant) are bilingual, which facilitates good communications.
Review 38:Our room was very comfortable with interesting furniture, plenty of space to sit and relax and a very comfortable bed. We ate two nights running in the hotel restaurant and we can honestly say the food was some of the best we have ever eaten in France.
Review 39:Wifi connection never connected
Review 40:Location superb, staff professional and friendly creating a lovely atmosphere. Food amazing, we had every intention of trying other restaurants but took each meal here. Not overpriced for quality.
Review 41:only criticism, was that on arrival our friends were placed in the hotel annex, and were not told until arriving.
Review 42:The room was very nice and overlooked the picturesque river. Hotel is in a great location to explore Brantome.
Review 43:The hotel has no parking but there is plenty of free parking available. Otherwise the whole experience was a dream.
Review 44:Our room had a balcony overlooking the river, just superb. Food was fantastic, staff were attentive and offered lots of advice on what to do and see. We spent 3 nights and were so sad to leave, but will be back.
Review 45:the bedroom was small though I understand that there are larger rooms in the hotel.
Review 46:location on river excellent, staff very friendly and helpful. dinner menu excellent.
Review 47:I find it difficult answering this part of the survey mainly because two hundred words of criticism is almost impossible. The one suggestion I would like to make is that tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms would be nice. In France few hotels supply this service as opposed to the UK but a nice afternoon tea or coffee and certainly an early morning one on your own balcony over looking the river would have been the icing on the cake for me.
Review 48:The hotel has a glorious position on the river with small balconies from the bedroom where you can sit outside, relax and watch the world go by in the tranquil setting. The restaurant was excellent, the food probably one of the best dinners I have ever had and we had the added bonus of being able to eat on the terrace on a warm summers evening. This hotel is a place to go for a special occasion and to give yourself and someone close to you an unforgettable experience
Review 49:No lift and one of our party was disabled
Review 50:The position of the Hotel was perfect. The decor of the rooms was excellent. The staff were willing and welcoming.
Review 51:I couldnt pick up the wifi and there was no aircon.
Review 52:The family room in the building adjacent the main hotel was superb. One of the best I have stayed in. A good price in a lovely Town. Perfect if you want to spend a day canoeing on the river. The staff were very friendly.
Review 53:Bathroom layout not thought through, tiny crampt W.C., huge bathroom and a bit squashed in the bedroom.
Review 54:The location on the side of the river was beautiful and we had free parking! Breakfast was good but not enough coffee, suggest leaving a pot on the table.
Review 55:Our problem was that we didnt realise we had to book dinner so having gone there on recommendation to dine were a bit disappointed but understood and had a super meal in the town.
Review 56:A fantastic hotel with delightful owner. Fascinating little town which was very busy and full of life and things to see. Lovely bedroom with perfect view over the river.Lovely breakfast
Review 57:We were in the annexe, which was fine, but not made clear to us when booking, and the internet there was pretty useless. A small point, but there was no shower curtain on the bath-shower, which made the bathroom extremely wet and slippery.
Review 58:Location is excellent, as is the stunning terrace restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious. Although slightly expensive, the quality was superior to everywhere else we ate. Great for a treat!
Review 59:We stayed on a Thursday night and from 4am Friday morning there was a lot of noise from the opposite bank of the river. So hardly any sleep. We were told next morning this was due to setting up for the Friday morning market. Room was small and two single beds too close together. On arrival we cancelled our dinner reservation in restaurant, this was met with a frosty and unprofessional reception from lady on duty.
Review 60:Lovely location overlooking the river. But not good value for money.
Review 61:Madam was a bit scary and didn't listen when I told her we'd booked 2 rooms, I had to push to point a bit! The room smelt a bit of smoke but soon went after we opened windows. Really frustrating was the wifi didn't work (which other reviewers mentioned too). But hey, we can live without that for a bit!
Review 62:Fabulous location We had the family room in the separate building from the main hotel (across the road), which was huge with 2 kingsize beds & comfortable seating with a huge coffee table. Right in the village/town centre and a few steps away from lovely shops & restaurants. It was so beautifully furnished and really comfortable, the beds were firm and so comfortable. There is a thoughtful large fan in every room. Our son, being 15, wanted to try a separate room, which was also really nice, albeit a bit smaller than ours. With a view over the river and car park. Masses of towels, really scrumptious handwash & showergel, even tissues and a magnified mirror for ladies! Everything was thoughtfully done and we won't hesitate to stay again.
Review 63:Parking spaces at a premium in the high season
Review 64:The hotel location and restaurant are excellent. The town is very pretty, with many old features hidden in the narrow alleys off the main streets that are lined with gift shops. And look out for the bats swooping under the bridges at night as they hunt for the insects attracted by the lights.
Review 65:only one thing to criticise was the wi fi which was dreadful. To try to use the web was difficult, and checking your emails was similar. It's the only hotel so far on this holiday that has been a problem.
Review 66:Everything, room excellent, food superb, staff especially helpful, and the town and river lovely.
Review 67:It's quite hot for summer. The hotel provided a tower fan but it was still a bit too warm. Wifi is quite unstable but there were cafes if internet access was needed.
Review 68:Cute decor, great location, right by the river. Friendly staff, good and elegant food at their restaurant.
Review 69:The room is not. No Air Con. No Wind. It's boiling hot despite opening windows. Insects kept flying in especially at night. No Kettle for a cup of tea / coffee. No Shampoo / Shower Gel on Day 1 as it ran out. WiFi is sloooooooooooow. Overall, it's NOT a 3 star hotel.
Review 70:Location is perfect.
Review 71:Rooms were rather small and in need of refurbishing.
Review 72:Beautiful location right on the river. Food was excellent and the outdoor terrace really lovely for dining. Carol on reception was really helpful and spoke fluent English.
Review 73:Beautiful position by the river. Gorgeous terrace for breakfast, coffee, lunch and dinner. Room had a balcony with perfect view to Abbey in one direction and flower covered bridge in the other. Idyllic. Staff were really helpful, room was lovely.
Review 74:We did not eat in the hotel as the prices were too high for us.
Review 75:We loved the 'Frenchness' of the hotel. It was in a beautiful situation and we had a room with a balcony overlooking the river. The rooms were clean and comfortable and the staff were very helpful and pleasant. We will be back.
