Reviews for Hôtel du Soleil Le Terminus

Review 1:Just a few minor decor issues in the rooms. But the character outweighs these minor points.

Review 2:This is the 4th time we have stayed and we are pleased to see the service and staff are as good as the 1st.

Review 3:Having a swimming pool is great but it was sometimes ridiculously crowded with people milling around in the small corridor waiting for the one shower and two small changing rooms.

Review 4:The staff were friendly and helpful, the décor of the hotel is interesting - I liked the fact that old features of the "Belle Epoque" have been kept - the breakfasts were copious and good.

Review 5:Rooms were clean and spacious. Reception area was fascinating, with much that harked back to the early years of the last century. The restaurant was good, staff helpful and food tasty, well cooked and presented.

Review 6:I think it's a bit over priced for what it is. We arrived early and had limited time in Carcassonne so went to the Castle to fill in time but our rooms still weren't ready when we returned, well after normal check-in time.

Review 7:Proximity to train station, walking distance to Medieval cite and restaurants etc, and the buffet breakfast was great. Coffee machine and slippers were a nice welcomed touch too. Helpful staff on early arrival and apologetic when rooms weren't ready well after check-in time.

Review 8:Other reviewers noted that the hotel could benefit from renovation. I disagree. Change your expectations, and you will like the place.

Review 9:The building architecture from 1914, the reception and grand staircase, excellent location for walking, close to restaurants, great indoor swimming pool, very nice breakfast buffet, in-room coffee service, friendly reception.

Review 10:It would be good if the swimming pool could open at 8.00 and not close for lunch. Why is that necessary when the pool is unstated?

Review 11:We had a lovely spacious room with a view of the Citadel for a very reasonable price. We had problems with a lamp which was quickly replaced. The breakfast buffet was very good. I cannot understand why this hotel does not get a higher rating.

Review 12:everything was as I expected

Review 13:This is an old style hotel. It has a sense of history about it. The swimming pool and Sauna were great to relax in after a days cycling. Central to Canal du midi, the railway station and the Centre of town,

Review 14:Hot drinks at breakfast were limited by a small automatic machine. Although the rooms were fine the interior of the hotel looked well worn.

Review 15:Staff were great. Location was great.

Review 16:Superior room was small. Towels were small. Paintwork very shabby. An occasional strange smell.... On one day breakfast was poor. The owners are bringing this great hotel back to life but they still have a little way to go.

Review 17:Well placed for the station and the Canal du Midi and just a 20 minute walk to La Cite. An amazing building, the hotel had a faded glamour which was intriguing. Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke good English. On one day breakfast was excellent.

Review 18:Bathroom needed updating and general comfort not what we expected from a 4 star hotel. Staff forgot our dinner reservation and grudgingly gave us a table!

Review 19:Location on canal du midi was good and relatively short walk to old city.

Review 20:Never eat in this hotel. the food is quite poor and over-priced

Review 21:This is an old fashioned but charming hotel for a short stay. the old rooms are large and airy with windows that open, but the bathrooms are weird. The magnificent staircase and lobby is worth a short stay on its own but there is a lift. The location, close to the station and Canal du Midi, make it the ideal way to explore Carcassonne. Dump your bags and head off on foot to the iconic hill-top Mediaeval city

Review 22:Dirty room, dreadfully old carpets and wall paper, very warm room and no air conditioning so necessitating open window leading to sleepless night due to traffic noise outside. Cracked sink and no holder for shower head. Breakfast, apart from fresh baguettes and a so-so fruit salad was bad; heated trays contained dried out food, scared to touch coagulated yellow stuff (scrambled egg?)

Review 23:Nothing although the receptionist on arrival was polite and very helpful.

Review 24:nil

Review 25:This was my 2nd stay, in a smaller room, with a different pleasant view. I liked the ambiance and the quiet space - in a great location. Breakfast was good too.

Review 26:The reception area with its wide and winding stairway is a throw back to halcyon days, whilst the location right on the canal and across the way from the railway station is perfect.

Review 27:A bit tired but location makes up for this we stayed 2 nights

Review 28:Fantastic location for travellers. Under 5 mins to canal midi and train station. Reception recommend a great restaurant chez Fred. Really enjoyed our stay. Basic hotel but large rooms with great view of the square.

Review 29:The smell in the room/toilet on the 2nd day was disgusting and came from the drains. Brought to attention of staff who advised that they were aware of it and this happened when the wind changed and came from Toulouse direction. Offered a change of room but declined as too much hassle to pack up all belongings and no guarantee that other rooms would not be similar.

Review 30:Lovely hotel with plenty of character

Review 31:Decor and rooms were a little dated and in need of refreshing, but had a lovely feel to it. Would benefit from a lick of paint !

Review 32:The location was great and staff were friendly

Review 33:The service in the hotel was poor and there were several examples of this whilst we were there. The hotel could be lovely but lacks care and thought - with sparse and oddly placed furniture, rubbish, papers and storage in public areas (including in reception) and poor lighting. Some areas were not very clean (as opposed to dirty) - overall the whole thing needed better attention to detail, more care and more customer service. Such as shame as a lovely place with a great location and facilities.

Review 34:This is a beautiful building in a great location and the rooms are very traditional - large and airy with openable windows and balconies. Coffee is supplied in the room along with sufficient bathroom products and towels. There is a pool and a small sauna which is a nice feature. There is a public seating area which is open and comfortable. Breakfast had a good selection.

Review 35:it was all ok. The bedroom decoration is a bit tired but the original features of the building and the old furniture is just great.

Review 36:The fin de siecle architecture and interior design

Review 37:Being charged 1.5 euro for one additional coffee pod for machine in room. At start of stay was given 3 coffee pods 2 tea bags and 2 chocolate sachets. We stayed for 4 nights and this was not replenished unless paid for. Was told every room gets same welcome pack no matter length of stay. So 1 night stay gets same amount as a week. We went to supermarket and purchased there at fraction of cost hotel wanted. I feel if you were staying 4 days perhaps could even replenish every 2nd day. Shower gel and soup was not replenished either although I don't know if they would charge for this. I just bought some. Hotel does need some TLC as cracks and dampness apparent on walls. Safe didn't work and lock on door didn't turn. Pool area a bit tired too

Review 38:Central location. Hotel was once a very Grand hotel and I liked the character. Staff also friendly.

Review 39:It has to modernize facilities. Few plugs, for instance

Review 40:It is an old hotel with memories of a prestigious past. It has a decadent appeal. Good location

Review 41:Unfortunately the bedroom was noisy (from traffic) as we had to have the window open due to the heat. No problem when closed.

Review 42:All the staff were friendly and very helpful, especially in reception. The building was old but inside was very clean and refurbished.

Review 43:The rooms are very dated and could do with being redecorated. There is no outside space to enjoy the south of France sunshine. The hotel bar closed very early (it was closed by 10:30 on a Friday night!) The hotel was supposedly a 4 star but it was a 3 star at best. Breakfast seemed very expensive so we didn't try it.

Review 44:Great location close to the station and the canal di midi. Staff were helpful.

Review 45:Bit grubby, and old fashioned.

Review 46:Average hotel - quite expensive for what you got, very dated, would have been grande 50 years ago. Ok breakfast however when hot food ran out it wasn't replenished. Comfy beds.

Review 47:The receptionist when we arrived after a very long hot day of riding was abrupt and was annoyed that we arrived before the notification came through to them from booking .com. She was insistent that I email her my booking confirmation and also we had to pay in full for our 2 day stay before we had even viewed the room. When I commented that we were hot and tired she said so was she and that she was only doing her job !!! We then had to go back to our motorcycle and fing the IPAD to show her the booking confirmation which she insisted I email to her.

Review 48:Swimming pool and lift to upper floors

Review 49:Had requested a free parking when booked online. Informed hotel disabled bit still they didn't reserve a parking spot and my husband had to drive round and round a city he didn't know trying to find a parking place. went to unload luggage and was told had to move for the coach party even though we had just arrived after driving all day, very poor.

Review 50:It's great to stay at a hotel that's full of character rather than the usual boring chain hotels. Comfortable rooms, friendly staff and excellent locations next to the Canal du Midi. Perfect.

Review 51:No mini bar, no room service, don't serve food all day even at the bar/restaurant, room in need of redecoration...how is this a four star hotel?!

Review 52:No toothpaste and brush what is very basic. Room was not clean enough dirthy carpet in the corners. The lady at the reception ignored me when i came to check in probably because i was wearing shorts:). The room was very noisy at night. For that price i expect more

Review 53:the location is very good.

Review 54:Right in front of station and Canal de Midi. Very nice staff, helpful for us, travelling on bicycles with kids. They will keep your bikes inside the hotel in a secure place. many restaurants and bars around the hotel, open to late.

Review 55:Overall felt a little 'mean' Lacked fridge in room and working shower/aircon One tiny bin Poor furniture Smell of excrement Breakfast food lacked quality, no GF alternatives - had to provide our own Had to pre pay because booked through you - so unable to leave Based in a slightly seedy area Bistro next door was open late but v poor service

Review 56:Interesting lobby - shabby chic

Review 57:Hotel very elegant but dated, in need of some upgrade. High step to front entrance with large doors. Musty smell in room, could have been from air-con possibly? Rooms need upgrading too. Bedroom door didn't have locking facility from inside. Not sure if suitable for disabled access - small lift with door opening outwards

Review 58:Spacious room with very comfortable bed. Clean. Plenty of toiletries availabe and hot drinks facility. Lovely large balcony window overlooking park with fountain and canal. Convenient parking in underground carpark right opposite hotel (but no discount when staying in hotel) and railway station close by. Staff were pleasant but not overly friendly. Swimming pool lovely. Small train service hourly to old cité from just outside hotel.

Review 59:The incompetence and poor customer service from the receptionist, Alice. She borrowed my iPhone/wallet and then left it on the counter for 2 hours! Didn't make any effort to call me in my room... Just left it with my phone, credit cards, ID and cash.

Review 60:The location

Review 61:Very hot night but air conditioning ineffective so had uncomfortable night in spite of nice bed

Review 62:Large room and bathroom with corner situation so great view.

Review 63:Think of this as the Grand Budapest Hotel. It is warm around the edges but that is what makes her great. The staff were exceptional and the breakfast well done.

Review 64:There was nothing I didnt like

Review 65:Staff very friendly and helpful room very spacious and cool bathroom very spacious with good facilities breakfast tasty plentiful and efficient

Review 66:its located on the furthest part of the town from the old city - a good 30 mins walk. There are not many good restaurants nearby and its generally quite run down.

Review 67:Architecturally stunning building

Review 68:The AC was iffy--it got a bit hot in the room in the late afternoon.

Review 69:The staff were very helpful, and patient with my bad French. The lobby was gorgeous, and the room was nice, with a very comfortable bed. The location was convenient and easy to find.

Review 70:Visually, the hotel was not as shown in photos. It was once a very grand hotel which is now a bit tired, worn, and jaded. Website photos have had the colour and light significantly enhanced.

Review 71:Location was excellent. Room was cleaned every day with fresh towels. Staff were friendly

Review 72:The restaurant next door, not sure if it was part of the hotel but itwas dreadful , I. Was quite poorly the next morning , and it wasn'texcess wine!

Review 73:Reception staff were really nice upgraded us as it was our silverwedding , very nice all round for a short stopover

Review 74:There was an absence of any drawer/storage space and only four hangers in the wardrobe - a challenge for a week's stay for two. While the bathroom was clean and provided a full/sized bath, there was no full height, wall-mounted shower. Unusual in this day and age.

Review 75:The convenience of the location and the courtesy of the staff, particularly the manager, Luc, who was most helpful.

Review 76:The surly, "take it or leave it" attitude of the weekday repletion staff, in complete contrast to the weekend staff. The breakfast was poor value. Overall the hotel is too expensive for what you get.

Review 77:The foyer and the hotel's atmosphere, but above all the swimming pool.

Review 78:I really liked this traditional French hotel built in 1913. Very comfortable bed, high ceilings, spacious room, no noise. TV & coffee machines worked well.Constant hot water & big bath tub. Great location for Canal du Midi, railway station & airport bus. The location is not so convenient for the old town (the walk is a bit far and not that pleasant but there are always taxis outside the hotel.) Restaurants at the hotel serve good food at reasonable prices.

Review 79:It's a very old hotel. I'm sure that it had its golden times before, but now this hotel really need a massive maintenance effort. Some new paints and new carpets and curtains will do okay.

Review 80:I would have loved a little fridge! The smell of the building is not the best but it is a very old building.

Review 81:The position of this hotel was great. I watched people whelel their luggage to the medieval city and I was so happy to walk there without luggage. The bed was really comfortable and the room was cleaned everday. It even had English speaking channels on the TV

Review 82:When due to unforeseen circumstances we had to leave a day early (this was explained to the hotel on our first of 5 days) upon leaving the head manager tried to demand we paid for the extra day we weren't staying for and threatened to call the police because I wouldn't in front of my two children and other guests which was disgusting! He wasn't prepared for us to leave the hotel without us making some kind of payment and as I was being threatened and on my own with my two children I did. Please if you do have to change your departure date be aware of the fact they will try and charge you for the extra time you don't stay!

Review 83:Great location but spoilt by attitude of Manager when trying to book out.

Review 84:We had no reservation via you when we arrived. There was no secure parking,as requested. Our brand new car was dented in the public car park! Overall a bad experience.

Review 85:Rooms were smelly and seemed to be an issue with towels bath mats- they removed towels and bath mats and didn't replace. No extra towels available if you used their swimming pool.

Review 86:Beautiful Hotel magnificent features and restaurant was excellent both food and service.

Review 87:small room, lack of fridge in room for milk

Review 88:Location to shopping and festive activities, character of the building, relaxed atmosphere and fabulous espresso machine in our room!

Review 89:Two twin beds together instead of a double bed, beds are not very comfortable in general, wi-fi was not easy to use, there was not enough plugs in the room

Review 90:Great location, good breakfast, old style furniture, nice clean bathroom, nice staff

Review 91:Hotel decor a little jaded and lobby could benefit from furniture which is a bit more in keeping with the original features of the building. Bedroom was reasonable size but uncomfortable bed and mattress was disappointing. Bathroom was pretty basic but plenty of hot water. Coffee machine provided in room but very disappointed to learn that we had to pay €1.50 PER POD (!) for additional coffee supplies on our second day!

Review 92:Good cental location close to shops and restaurants - although a half hour walk to the castle. Parking available (limited spaces) in hotel garage at additional cost. Some lovely original features in lobby area and grand central staircase to upper floors.

Review 93:It was nice to feel the glory of ancient Europe, you almost feel as if you are in a palace.....And the nice surprise, if you don't know, is that there is a lovely swimming pool, Jacuzzi and a sauna downstairs in the hotel. A great place to go for a weekend or more and to explore the ancient town of Carcassonne.

Review 94:nobody answered the phone few times I tried to call the hotel from outside. The same happened again when I tried from my room. Room 202. The outside corridor unlighted; very difficult to close the access door; unable to control the t.v., it was needed to unplug it to switch it off at night; only hot water (no cold water) in the shower.

Review 95:the building is an architectonic jewel, nice staff in reception

Review 96:We were initially put into a room that smelled quite badly. I opened all windows to see if it would help but once I closed them it returned. I asked at reception if it were possible to move and there was no problem. I was told they have a problem with three rooms in the hotel. We could get the smell soon after up the street from the hotel so in fairness to them I would say it is a sewage or some such problem in the town rather than it being the fault of the hotel. We felt the Spa facilities to be poor and though the hotel has an old world style about it we felt with a little work they could return it to a little of its former glory.

Review 97:Staff friendly, breakfast excellent, directly across from the train station and just twenty minutes walk from medieval town. Bedrooms and bathrooms very clean.

Review 98:Smell of drains in the room and the hotel which was obviously once a grand old lady, really does need a lot of tender loving care - ie re-decorating and up-grading

Review 99:Good location

Review 100:This hotel needs more attention .

Review 101:This old lady to be enjoyed and appreciated should be taken with some imagination by trying to live in the comfort of 1910 . After your first impression of disappointment due to the hotel management shortcomings as mentioned by other reviews this hotel will win your heart . I strongly recommend this hotel to those who love to live in the past and dream . ( for 72 Euro a night )

Review 102:Our room was clean but faded and the bathroom had little space. Overall the premises are very spacious but the bathroom in our case was miniscule. Our room overlooked the busiest street in Carcassonne and there was the sound of traffic from early morning. A nice place but needs updating.

Review 103:Location is excellent. Beside the rail station and connection to the airport help it a lot. And it is literally on the banks of the Canal du Midi which makes it a superb location for walking along the tranquil canal paths.

Review 104:Nature of the building has made it difficult to update some of the facilities - bathroom could have been more modern. Traffic outside the front of the hotel from quite early in the morning. Pool table is a bit incongruous in the grand foyer.

Review 105:Great old 19th century hotel, impressive foyer and staircase. Friendly and helpful reception. Decent breakfast.

Review 106:A lovely 1915 hotel full of old charm and character not a 4 star but it makes a refreshing change from the modern style. Read the reviews and were pleasantly suprised room big and clean and in character with the hotel style. We faced out onto the park and canal. staff friendly and helpful pool area very clean. Breakfast was very good although I can imagine very busy in high season. The only down side is its on quite a noisy road but the view makes up for that, park and canal du midi one side fortified town on the other. We had a fab time good local resturants great place for a weekend or midweek break.

Review 107:The Saturday clothing market- not inspiring! The power in our room (or floor) overnight was not helpful, although staff did arrange for a change of room.

Review 108:As we travelled by train to Carcassonne the hotel was ideally located, across from the station and an easy walk into the centre of town. The walk up to the old walled city was excellent, as was our exploration of that area. Well worth our visit to Carcassonne! The Saturday fresh produce market was great, nice to see all the locals out and about.

Review 109:The entrance and staircase are lovely in the Belle Époque style. It is a 15 minute walk through town to the cite. Hotel is very close to the Canal du Midi and station. Good buffet breakfast. Lovely reception staff. Private parking was available.

Review 110:The wifi wasn't very strong in the room (eg not strong enough for downloading an online newspaper or checking Facebook) but in the foyer it was fine. Sometimes there was an odour from the canal close by if you had the windows open.

Review 111:The location close to the train station was very handy. The decoration of the hotel was beautiful complete with "Juliet" windows. The rooms were soundproof and the outlook onto the park was lovely. There were many eating places close by and the old city was only a 20 minute walk.

Review 112:Dinner at the hotel restaurant - food was great, but at one point the (otherwise great) waiter ran through the menu in rapid French even though we had already established my French was sketchy. Not sure if he was trying to have me on. I nodded sagely and said 'oui.'

Review 113:Great example of the shabby chic that the French do so well. Grand staircase was, well, very grand. Really liked it. Staff were all friendly, kind about my limited French, and the pool was great fun. Good location too.

Review 114:Very noisy outside two of the nights we stayed

Review 115:Staff were very good. Facilities were good. The main shopping area is within a 5 minute walk. The old city is fabulous and is only a 20 minute walk away

Review 116:Poor breakfast, the smell of cigarette smoke in the room.

Review 117:Gorgeous building! I'd say the chicest hotel in Carcassonne even though the price is way lower than at the hotels in Le Cite. What a view from the room!

Review 118:Bathroom was quite dated! Spa and pool not great!

Review 119:Realy close too train station literally 60 second walk! Room with balcony was great and bed was super comfy! Air con was good also!

Review 120:Very dirty bathroom and stinky bedroom. It was absolutely not possible to feel comfortable. Too expensive for what they offer. The hotel did not deserve to get 4 stars!! Absolutely not to recommend!

Review 121:Location was great, next to the city. Ambiente was charming.

Review 122:Although we didn't need them there was a feeling that usual freebies were rationed eg notices about counting towels but on the other hand had 2 pairs of slippers which was nice but there were 3 of us- only small things really but could be easily fixed- would be nice if there was a small private area to sit out to read or something - although there is a park across the road and canal next door a private area I think would be welcome

Review 123:Staff very welcoming helpful and spoke to us in good English- entrance hall is spectacular and would have merited doing something special about the hotels centenary only 1m ago for such a well preserved historical building. Breakfasts were good and varied selection

Review 124:the filthy mouldy bathrooms could do with a makeover

Review 125:the style of the building is fabulous. the rooms are nicely laid out overall the hotel is like a staely home and we quite enjoyed the place

Review 126:-no ventilation in the toilette - pool utilization time should be extended adjusted to sommer longer days

Review 127:the internal "grand hotel / belle epoque style"' , -the wide corridors. the high ceiling also in the rooms. - best wifi connection in the rooms - friendly personell

Review 128:This hotel is in need of a lot of TLC. The entrance is impressive and the marble staircase is lovely, however as you approach your room, the corridor is shabby. The room was very basic. No way would I class this hotel as 4 star. Room needs refurbishment. There was no iron, no fridge only 2 plug sockets. In order to plug in an appliance you had to unplug the TV or the lamp. The bathroom was very old and dated. The shower was hand held and not mounted on the wall. Breakfast was terrible. As the cooked food ran out it was not replenished. No toaster. We had coffee and bread. When we arrived we showered and so used the towels. We asked at the front desk if we could have fresh towels, but were told that towels would not be replaced until the next morning, not much use if you are checking out. Hotel is near the train station, but a long walk from the old town. A very disappointing stay and would not recommend this hotel. Poor value. Star rating should be reduced.

Review 129:Wifi worked well.

Review 130:Shower head had no mounting good for a bath but not for shower Bit expensive I thought but was peak season

Review 131:Close to railway station I liked the old grand hotel feel and my room had view of old fortress city Nice meal in bistro next door

Review 132:Excellent location

Review 133:Corridor areas could have been cleaner and walls in bedroom were a bit dirty

Review 134:location was great, staff very helpful and swimming pool was great

Review 135:comfort and atmosphere.
