Reviews for Hotel Du Chateau - CHC
Review 1:Definitely this is not a four star hotel. The room is extremely small. Two dogs and one cat live in reception. The staff is not friendly. The heating system did not allow temperature control.
Review 2:Great location.
Review 3:A little assistance on arrival rather than a waved hand in the general direction of our room and a quick explanation of the gate/key/code, would have been more helpful! We went back to the reception/bar lounge a couple of times to have a drink but always felt we were an intrusion so chose not to have breakfast there during our stay. A warm welcome makes a huge difference when travelling!
Review 4:The setting of Hotel du Chateau was fabulous, right beside the beautiful walled city which we had travelled so far to see. The Bassett Hound and the Chocolate Lab who met us on arrival were absolutely gorgeous. The reception perhaps a little less so, we felt a bit of a nuisance actually! Quite abrupt! However, we did manage to find our room which was down the drive and through a gate - very secure, rather smaller than we had expected but fairly well appointed. More space around the bed would have been better than the rather wasted space in the 'atrium' of the room. Clever bathroom layout! The wifi was good and the aircon/heating also.
Review 5:The constant banal almost blaring music in the bar/ breakfast room. It irritate after a short while. We asked if there was an alternative selection, there was and it was pleasant. Corporate branding has limits.
Review 6:The relaxed atmosphere
Review 7:Hotel was remodeled and very clean. Breakfast was also good. View from the restaurant was amazing. We initially booked a hotel inside the City wall but I am glad I changed to Hotel Du Chateaux which is just outside of the city wall and the view is lot better than what you can see from inside which isn't that much.
Review 8:The hotel was perfectly located just outside (literally just outside) the city walls. Our room was amazing, the bathroom in particular was so well designed and was immaculate. The staff were so accommodating and helpful assisting us with everything. We had an amazing time in this beautiful hotel.
Review 9:Although it is obviously convenient for the castle, with hindsight I would have booked something closer to town as there's more going on.
Review 10:Nice welcome, comfortable bed, funky bathroom. A nice hotel but not special for the money.
Review 11:No negative experiences.
Review 12:Proximity to the castle. We were steps away from the ramparts and the restaurants still open late in the season. We received excellent recommendations from the hotel staff.
Review 13:Very bad experience. We paid 250 euros for a very small room, so-called family room. Only 2 towels for 3 people, plastic goblets, very small bathroom, no desk, direct view on the cars passing to a nerby street, etc... This place is absolutely not on standard.
Review 14:Location is good, very close to the city.
Review 15:None
Review 16:Very close to walled city. The terrace where you could look to walled city (very pretty at night). The breakfast served to your table - and a tasty boiled egg! The comfortable bed, good shower and general en suite room. The immaculate grounds, artworks and secluded pool area.
Review 17:The dog beds in the reception area were quite smelly and the dogs, which were very large, walked around our feet while we were eating breakfast. General cleanliness was exceptional but for the dog beds.
Review 18:Everything except the dogs. Every staff member was friendly & efficient. Great position right near the entrance to the castle.
Review 19:Excellent location nearby the old walled city with secure parking. Great views from the bar/breakfast room of the walls of the old city. Easy walk into the old city and beyond to the new town. Highly recommended.
Review 20:The best place to stay in the Medieval City is actually just outside it. At the Hotel du Chateau you can regard the splendour of the walls and towers whilst you have breakfast or a nightcap or relax in the grounds. The main entrance to the city is just across the road meaning all the restaurants and attractions are within a short walk. The rooms are luxurious and probably the nicest we’ve ever stayed in with a separate sitting area that gives you a sense of space. The breakfast is a continental feast well worth booking and you should give yourself a good 45 minutes if you intend to make your way through it all. The spa consists of a steam room, exercise pool and 2 treatment rooms. The massages are reasonably prices and the masseuses excellent. Getting a taxi at the airport can be difficult but the bus is incredibly simple if you let the driver know where you’re staying. In our case it dropped us right out the front of the hotel (although we’re not convinced the bus driver didn’t detour for us). The return taxi took 6 minutes to the airport.
Review 21:'Deluxe' room was small and dark with little natural light. Floor lights were hot under foot and cut down on the available space. Not worth the additional expense. Not sure the dogs under the table at breakfast is a great idea.
Review 22:Good location, friendly and helpful staff
Review 23:There was no restaurant at this hotel, and no choice of wine which seemed very odd in the middle of a wine producing region of France. The air conditioning in the room was noisy so couldn't be left on at night and there was only a hand held shower in the bathroom.
Review 24:Great location by city gates
Review 25:Hotel was amazing. Very clean and in an ideal location. However, even if you are chief judge at crufts, would you like a dog underneath your table at breakfast? Get rid of the mutts and this place would be A1
Review 26:We do not like smelly dogs seeking food around our breakfast table. Accommodation is expensive. Rather odd open plan toilet and shower which should have obscured doors and screens
Review 27:Fantastic position adjacent to the entrance into the walled city. Excellent breakfast. Very comfortable room with air conditioning.
Review 28:The upscale touches were evident from the entrance through the private, quite room. All excellents when the two twin beds pushed together are replaced with a single, firm mattress
Review 29:Bathroom expensively fitted but badly planned. Shower cubicle is very small. Very little storage for clothes and cases. No mini bar. No tea/ coffee making.
Review 30:Location is excellant
Review 31:Breakfast is a bit basic. High level of carbohydrates with very little else. Especially 2 days in a row.
Review 32:The location is fantastic and the staff at the hotel were incredibly helpful, especially with my lack of french!
Review 33:Even the superior room, which we booked, was extremely small for the price. There was no seating area, there was no kettle etc. to make a cup of tea or coffee, there was no bottled water in the room. The shower was minuscule and the bathrooms so small it was extremely difficult or two people to use concurrently or to move to dry oneself. We also objected to the charge for parking. When you are paying over €200 for a room you expect far more.
Review 34:The location right beneath the battlements of the great castle old city of Carcassonne
Review 35:Room-service food menu was very limited (and served in pre-warmed cans).
Review 36:Location, ambience, staff (massage by Mary/Marie in the spa was the best I've ever had), gardens, style of rooms.
Review 37:Would be nice to have tea/coffee making facilities in the room and also water provided without extra charge.
Review 38:The comfort of the room and the service from all staff was excellent - stayed for 1 night and planning a 2 night stay next year
Review 39:Nowhere to fit the shower head to have a shower . The noise from above our room (10) first thing in the morning .
Review 40:The location . The decor . The welcoming staff .
Review 41:The location was unbeatable, just outside the old city walls, and the terrace was an oasis of calm after the crowds in the city. The rooms were very good, and the staff were really attentive and friendly. Could not fault it.
Review 42:Breakfast is expensive at 15 euro per head. Owners dogs beg at the table. Staff forgot to serve our complete breakfast. Cleanliness is to a high standard however there were cobwebs and flies in our room. Water at 4 euro a small bottle. No parasols around the pool. Shared facilities with another hotel. Junior suite booked to discover this was a double room with a sofa bed and no separate living area.
Review 43:The proximity to the Cite. The style of the hotel. The pool and jacuzzi. The bed was really comfy. Clean linen. Soundproofing.
Review 44:The fact that we have to go back home!
Review 45:We had a fantastic time at Du Chateau. The bed was pure heaven with great high quality sheets, the room was very clean, the staff was very friendly, the internet was working perfectly and the breakfast was tasty.
Review 46:Nothing. All brill. Book this hotel!
Review 47:The location. The private car park. The staff were ultra cool and helpful. The room was fantastic. Pool fantastic. One of the best hotels we have stayed in in France. Absolutely loved it. We will defo go back and reco to all our friends
Review 48:Light sleepers should request a room away from the road.
Review 49:Best things: Comfortable king bed, well-appointed room, kind and efficient service, very fast wifi, secure car park, and lovely secluded pool area.
Review 50:The room, while nice enough, was strangely isolated, without any real view but a road and another building. Still, the location probably offset that, but only by a little.
Review 51:Being directly across the street from the primary entrance to Carcassonne.
Review 52:The location right across the road from the castle was fantastic, and our room was very comfortable and clean. The pool was lovely, and the staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 53:Nothing to fault.
Review 54:A beautiful hotel in a superb location just outside the medieval city walls main entrance. Outside dining, sitting area, swimming pool with lounging area. Quality, clean rooms and very friendly staff.
Review 55:We would have liked a restaurant for evening. Room service unusual, food served in container it came in.
Review 56:Bathroom very well designed to make best use of space. Good dining areas indoors and outside.
Review 57:Not bad things, just a few suggestions... * insect/bug issue in the hotel room and initial response was to offer bug spray to us? The issue remained throughout our 2 night stay * curtain in room was far too light as there was a street lamp directly outside the window flooding light in and also morning light was bright also. Needs a heavy drape.
Review 58:Location, location, location Very nice hotel with great facilities
Review 59:Staff paid absolutely no attention to my booking. Booked months in advance to secure a room with a view of the castle and specifically requested such a room. Attitude of staff - sorry not interested.
Review 60:Absolutely a fantastic location
Review 61:Drinks very expensive, measures very small. 33euros for a double. Questioned whether it was a double. Next day purchased a bottle of brandy from local store for 55euros. Will not be returning.
Review 62:Garden areas and hotel location excellent
Review 63:The hotel was perfectly located outside La Cite. The staff were very friendly and always happy to help. The hotel was recently renovated and the room was nicely appointed with modern conveniences whilst still having a charming décor.
Review 64:No tea / coffee making facilities not a mini bar - disappointing.
Review 65:Friendly staff and lovely room. Didn't have time to use facilities but bath and complimentary bath salts and toilettries etc were just the thing after a long day.
Review 66:I thought the rooms were small as we were paying nearly 190 euros a night then 15 euro each for breakfast then 10 euro for parking our car, I didnt mind the dogs in the bar but i am not a cat lover so I didnt like it when he jumped up on my lap whilst having a drink in the bar with my husband for our wedding anniversary
Review 67:I liked the bar and the view of the buildings and the decor, the staff were very polite and helpful, the gardens were very well maintained
Review 68:nothing
Review 69:Unusual stylish designer room. Nice pool. Friendly laid back staff - not so laid back that they were hard to find but just not in your face all the time
Review 70:The breakfast was way over priced at 15 euros per Person. Nothing hot or cooked....no matter how many people are at your table its 15euros per head for a shared basket of fruit and bread. The only good aspect was the fresh regional Apple juice. It should be 15 euros for the room. So for my wife and I it was 30 euros for a shared basket of bread and fruit. Outside of the castle not much in Carcassone, I suggest 2 nights there and then move on to the coast or something else. The hotel also has numerous s dogs which at first are friendly but the begging for food from 4 dogs got old quick
Review 71:The location is by far the property's best asset. Great access to the castle and to the town area
Review 72:I would have liked to have been able to make a hot drink in our room when we first get up in the morning.
Review 73:Friendly knowledge staff Excellent location Garden with excellent views
Review 74:excellent location just outside the city walls, comfortable and tastefully decorated room with a little garden , nice swimming pool, very friendly and helpfull staff and secured parking. a pity we only stayed for one night.
Review 75:Everyting was perfect.
Review 76:We had a perfect stay at the Hotel Du Chateau. The location is perfect and the hotel very beautiful. We slept very very good - it was quiet and very comfy and nice to be able to open the windows. The ladies at the hotel were very friendly. We can certainly recommend this hotel and would like to come back.
Review 77:Breakfast was very expensive for what was offered, and the cheaper ( but not actually cheap ) rooms were quite small, but I must say, very comfortable all the same.
Review 78:Excellent position with views of the Walled Cite and Chateau which is just across the road.
Review 79:The owners' dogs in the restaurant at breakfast and the slow checking in - there were enough staff to deal with more than on booking at at a time but they chose to ignore those waiting!
Review 80:Location
Review 81:Nothing!
Review 82:Absolutely amazing location. Beautiful room and facilities. Staff were super helpful and gave some great recommendations for dinner. Also loved the hotel pets - made it feel like home.
Review 83:Beds not soft or comfortable and coffee was bad. And no cappuccino offered which would have been nice!
Review 84:Location was the best! Staff was friendly and helpful. Rooms were good and very clean. Loved that you had umbrellas for open use as it rained while we were there.
Review 85:Beautiful rooms pulled down a little by plastic cups. Glasses and a kettle for in room coffee making would be welcome.
Review 86:Fantastic location by castle walls. Easy access during the day and romantic walk at night. Lovely cosy rooms.
Review 87:The hotel sports a collection of ageing pets who wander around the entrance and restaurant. For those who like pets, that is a nice touch. For those who prefer a dog- and cat-free breakfast it is less so. Plus there is a faint animal smell throughout the public spaces.
Review 88:A nice small property, with a superb location, friendly staff and an excellent spa. The bar is open late at night for those seeking a nightcap. The hotel has a nice pool and outdoor space though neither was much use in the dead of winter.
Review 89:I wanted some small snacks to have with my drink but there was nothing's, not even some nuts or crisps.
Review 90:The atmosphere was very relaxed and I loved the dogs. The room was beautifully decorated and was very comfortable. Location superb.
Review 91:Only complaint is that we had a room on the ground floor that faced a sidewalk, and only a very sheer covering over the window. Should have thicker/opaque covering for more privacy.
Review 92:Beautiful room. Clean and comfortable. Castle is just across the road, we enjoyed walking from the hotel during the day and night.
Review 93:Room was compact and on the dark side because of dark red paint. No drawer space. Didn't bother with breakfast at €15 pp.
Review 94:Proximity to the Cite, couldn't be closer. Not too bad a walk into the new town. Nice bar area with views of the walls.
Review 95:Very poor noise insulation, disturbed by the occupants above us, I had the impression that they were rearranging the furniture all night long (how often do you really have to drag a chair on the floor during the night?. Breakfast expensive for what it was. The room felt a bit cramped
Review 96:Superb location and facilities
Review 97:We had three lovely nights here and particularly appreciated being at the foot of the old city. We have only positive things to say - you won't be disappointed with a single thing at this hotel.
Review 98:Same the hotel dosnt have a restuarant and not sure about the two dogs lying about. Rooms are very small for the price you pay
Review 99:Locations was amazing, and very nice hotel. Staff are great and always helpfull
Review 100:The two old dogs that haunt the bar and reception area are cute for a while but then grow tiresome. Wifi reception was very frustrating.
Review 101:The hotel is especially well located for access to the citadel and is very well appointed. Room size was adequate and breakfast was good. The bar has a wonderful ambience for an outdoor drink watching the sun set behind the old city walls. Great for a relaxing couple of days. No more is needed to see the town and perhaps take in a tour of the area. We booked with Sun Tours for a look at the Cathar Castles - highly recommended.
Review 102:The car park for patrons is an addition cost per day (€10) as is breakfast but we knew that when we booked, maybe it could be incorporated into the room rate.
Review 103:Superbly located to the castle and with a real boutique feel. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay.
Review 104:Wifi only really worked in hotel lobby, couple of nights had some strange noises coming from the plumbing, but nothing too bad
Review 105:Fantastic location, helpful staff, great bar area
Review 106:There is nothing not to like!
Review 107:The location of this hotel is stunning. Staff are extremely friendly & helpful. Beautiful rooms & bathrooms. Love the two dogs who 'live' in reception! This was our third visit but definitely not the last.
Review 108:Wifi was patchy and not v user friendly. Tbh I think hotels need to be on top of this as it's increasingly important for us to be able to stay on touch when away.
Review 109:This hotel is just next to the city greats so you can be in the cobbled alleyways of carcassone in next to no time. For us it was great to get away from the crowds at peak times, cool off in the pool and return when the city was quieter. Breakfast was excellent and well worth the €15 surcharge.
Review 110:The hotel doesn't have a restaurant for lunch and dinner - only snacks and limited room service available.
Review 111:Staff were a good team, friendly and helpful. Service was good. Hotel was clean and tidy. Location of hotel was superb for visiting Carcassonne (100m from old city) and surrounding district - Canal du Midi, Vineyards etc. Really enjoyed relaxing around pool and terrace. All round very nice experience and would definitely stay there again.
Review 112:Bedroom was a little small
Review 113:Spa good. Nice seating are outside Pool nice and actually warm enough to swim in Beautiful bathroom Staff friendly Dog friendly - large basset hound had pride of place in reception
Review 114:Swimming pool area is great. Location was perfect. Beautiful place to stay. Can not fault it. Owner, Stephanie, was very helpful and pleasant- a real gent.
Review 115:No wifi in rooms - had to go to bar Dim lighting in room Wrongly marked taps in Bathroom Smell of dog poo on lawn whilst eating breakfast
Review 116:Location excellent Service excellent Facilities excellent Outdoor breakfast and seating area Location of our poolside room
Review 117:Ground floor room (room 5) you had to close the shutters for privacy. Not much else to do in Carcassonne except visit the old city.
Review 118:Location close to the old city. Comfortable room and bed. Great breakfast.
Review 119:Could only turn main lights off at door way switch not from bed
Review 120:Location, very quiet amongst hubbub of La Cite, able to leave car in car park even after we had checked out
Review 121:Not keen on the boutique style bathroom we had. A window into the bedroom!! Call me old fashioned. The shower area was very small being right opposite the toilet. A larger walk in shower and no bath would have been better for us. The paintwork was rather drab and seemed to need updating. Breakfast was plentiful and good except that the boiled eggs we were given were practically raw but were replaced with a smile.
Review 122:The hotel was in a perfect location for our trip. The garden was a little oasis away from the crowds.
Review 123:Nothing !!
Review 124:Superb location with helpful staff, one of the best hotels I have ever stopped in. The (optional) breakfast was excellent. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone. Looking forward to coming back one day.
Review 125:The breakfast offered is not worth the price. In fact the food served was bizarre. Some one knocked off our side view mirror in free parking lot. Bang
Review 126:The room is comfortable with many amenities. Beautiful area. Free parking. Staff nice and honest. The held my computer items I left behind after I came back five days later. nice pool. Nice bar.
Review 127:Wifi would not work in our room downstairs but they were taking steps to rectify
Review 128:Location and outlook over to the wall of old city. Hotel has made the most of its position with outdoor tables for restaurant to get the best view especially at might where wall is lit up
Review 129:The room was tiny and not really good enough for the price
Review 130:The location of the hotel is excellent, right by the entrance to Carcassone old town. The bar area was nice
Review 131:great hotel, helpful staff, lovely breakfast, great location. will come again.
Review 132:The sofa bed is impossible to sleep on. 2 big smelly dogs in the dinning room that bothered guests. Small cramped room
Review 133:The location and parking
Review 134:Breakfast expensive and not included Parking not included
Review 135:Amazing location.
