Reviews for Hôtel Montmorency

Review 1:The hotel had a cat which was climbing on the tables in the restaurant, and I noticed hat there was only one member of staff seemed to be working at a time, which meant service was slow when busy.

Review 2:The location was amazing, right infront of the castle, you really could not get closer unless inside the walls, the staff was very helpful and friendly.

Review 3:There seemed a problem with the heating so was very hot and didn't sleep well. But other than that was amazing

Review 4:fantastic hotel great facilities spacious rooms Loved the hotel dogs my kids loved the jacuzzi and pool

Review 5:The room and bathroom were very small. Neither my husband more I are large, and we had difficulty maneuvering in the bathroom. And the bed was actually a only a double size, not a queen!

Review 6:Great location, with easy and safe parking. Ground floor room had a very nice patio which would be delightful in warmer weather. The room was also nicely decorated.

Review 7:the colour scheme in the room was a bit much, we had the orange room

Review 8:the people, the view of the old city from the bar the proximity to the old city was great

Review 9:In truth, it really isn't a hotel, but a dormitory across the street from the Hotel du Chateau. The rooms were Spartan. No English TV. No elevator. Safe didn't work.

Review 10:Great location outside the wall. Secure parking on site.

Review 11:Unfortunately someone staying at the hotel must have been smoking in the room before our arrival and the smell of stale cigarette smoke was really strong, Credit to the staff, they relocated us for the 1st night and had the room fully refreshed and aired as best they could. It has to be said smoking was against hotel rules and they cannot be held responsible for someone else's ignorance.

Review 12:Great location and the staff were excellent and very accommodating.

Review 13:We we're given an inferior room to the one we booked and had a problem with the hot water. The staff were very apologetic and we left happy

Review 14:Proximity to the old city

Review 15:Wifi is a bit weak in the room but it's strong in the reception/bar, which is a nice place to be with the two welcoming old dogs.

Review 16:We felt very much at home here and in fact extended our stay after the first night. The feeling is homely and friendly, with a focus on quality over quantity which is particularly noticeable with the beautiful continental breakfast. Just loved it and Carcassonne was a joy too, though we think we were lucky that we were not there in peak season.

Review 17:The owners are very proud of this hotel and it shows with lovely finishing touches in e.g. The breakfast menu with locally sourced produce - all beautifully presented. The room and hotel decor. The rooms had luxury, quality beds that were so comfortable - best hotel bed I had ever slept in and the hotel location couldn't be better. Would definitely go back

Review 18:room 31 was very small under the stairs which was very noisy when other guests went up and down, bathroom was very very small, the basin was practically over the toilet. breakfast was a set menu and was not value for money. WIFI was very slow and only one person could get on at a time but mostly got disconnected

Review 19:location, friendly staff

Review 20:Not impressed with breakfast. Very crowded. No buffet. Very expensive. Had to ask for everything so did not bother. Only wanted light breakfast so went into cite.

Review 21:Location

Review 22:THE ROOM WAS TINY AND THE BATHROOM WAS AN EXCUSE FOR A BATHROOM YOU HAD TO MANOUVRE YOUR WAY TO SIT ON THE LOO, BREAKFAST TOO EXPENSIVE AT 15 EUROS PER HEAD, PROBLEM WITH LOCKING OUR DOOR WHICH LEAD OUT ON TO A GARDEN. NOT ENOUGH STAFF AROUND HAD TO ABANDON HAVING A DRINK IN THE BAR AS THE BARMAN WAS COVERING DESK ALSO.

Review 23:room a little small but perfectly ok. Would have been nice to have a full length mirror

Review 24:Breakfast hotel dogs views room clean outdoor pool location

Review 25:Very small room as well as the bathroom. No space where to put our luggage. Small and short beds.

Review 26:Perfect location next to the castle, secure parking, friendly staff

Review 27:No English speaking channel tuned in, had to do it ourselves.

Review 28:Great location and super helpful staff Stayed in villa and that was bit of a stretch only one bathroom

Review 29:Breakfast of 15 euros per person seemed pricey. The bathroom was verysmall, but the room was cute (also small).

Review 30:Great location. Comfy bed. Nice staff. Parking for 10 euros in a gatedlot. We checked out in morning but were allowed to leave our car in thelot until we left Carcassonne in the afternoon.

Review 31:There was a confusion over room prices. Hotel wanted to charge us more than what the booking was for but everything was sorted at the end.

Review 32:Very good location!!2 min walk from Carcassonne castle(Cite).

Review 33:Wifi isn't available in the rooms. The room was so small we didn't have enough room for our suitcase. There's no large mirror where to see yourself and bathroom lighting was insufficient and the bathroom was really tiny. The hotel doesn't have a reception, you have to go to the hotel in front. There's no lift to go upstairs neither bellboy to carry your case

Review 34:Location is great and the coffee shop overlooking the garden and the fortified city is fantastic. There's a car park opposite the hotel for clients.

Review 35:The wifi is not totally user friendly. We had difficulty sending emails from our accounts.

Review 36:Comfortable bed, friendly staff, great breakfast and great location.

Review 37:Booked a junior suite got a small 3 bed room,no drink making facility in room,no fridge all of which we expect at this level.room not cleaned properly when I complained the staff appeared uninterested and said we are private hotel and not part of a big chain!!

Review 38:Comfortable room - smaller than expected - had 2 different rooms, one was supposed to be bigger than the other - but seemed the same. Staff not sure who we were as we were in an annex - reception in a separate building across the street.

Review 39:Location - a couple of minutes from old walled town. Rooms were comfortable.

Review 40:Small room that smelt a bit of stale cigarettes but once we opened the doors it seemed to go quite quickly.

Review 41:Excellent location at the bottom of the cité. Lovely swimming pool. Nice bar area. Very friendly staff. They were happy for us to stay by the pool for the day once we had checked out. Our room had a really nice little private terrace.

Review 42:Had trouble with the wifi, gave up, as we didn't have time to persist.

Review 43:The hotel's position was great. We only had a short stay & we were really close to all we wanted to visit.

Review 44:The hotel is more of an annex to another hotel. Reception in another building (hotel) across the street.

Review 45:Perfect location close to the main attraction. Good parking fascilities. Nice outdoor space.

Review 46:The shocking decor of room 25. A little hard on the eyes. Also the unkept in the restaurant and lobby area.

Review 47:Location, comfortable beds, very clean rooms..

Review 48:Breakfast was expensive even though there was a lovely variety. If I hadn't had wheelchair with me I would have gone up into the castle.

Review 49:Room was decorated beautifully. The seating area outside was an extra bonus as was the air conditioning. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. I was travelling with my daughter in a wheelchair and they went out of their way to accommodate. Even though the pool and breakfast area were attached to the sister hotel the facilities were easily accessed and this was with a wheelchair.

Review 50:The room was very, very small despite booking a junior suite (rm 24). We walked past a basic room (french style) that was the same size as ours. The decor was also very overpowering.

Review 51:The pool and bar area were excellent, and the service was great.

Review 52:Reception staff were not experience enough. They would leave you hanging while the serve the bar or attend someone else. The pool was in another hotel.

Review 53:Location was stunning next to citadel.

Review 54:Décor not our taste, did not know we were staying in an annexe of the hotel we should have been informed. Lack of direction on arrival

Review 55:Location nice pool and bar area

Review 56:The room was extremely small and the water in the shower (which was over the bath) didn't drain away properly but we didn't inform the hotel as we were only staying for one night. Breakfast wasn't included and the service was a bit slow.

Review 57:The location was great - opposite the walled city. The staff were nice, good swimming pool and nice decking area with seats outside the room.

Review 58:Rooms are a little small and a bit out dated , the wallpaper is a bit gaudy they should just paint them white or cream and they would look and feel bigger.

Review 59:Considered very much 'second rate' as linked (not physically as over the road) from the more prestigious Hotel Chateau. Had the benefit of the pool and spa facilities (along with bar and breakfast) but couldn't be bothered to walk over the road in swimwear just to use pool. Also prices pretty steep e.g. OKish Breakfast on a ridiculously small table for €15 each.

Review 60:Ground floor room close to the old part of the city.

Review 61:paper thin walls and super tiny room. had to sit sideways on toilet bc it is so close to sink. a woman was screaming at her boyfriend all they the night ...and we could hear everything. but it was middle of night so we were too tired to make the trek over to the reception to complain.

Review 62:great location, lovely pool area and so close to the castle and old city. price was great too. parking is free and easy if u have car.

Review 63:Hotel was just outside the walls of the medieval city in a nice area. Great swimming pool and the rooms were small but nicely decorated and very clean

Review 64:This hotel is a treat! Just across the road from the castle. Lovely cosy room, very clean, great breakfast, we also loved the swimming pool and the jacuzzi is a must! Hotel staff are very helpful and friendly.

Review 65:Our room was noted to have a seating area with a sofa but this turned out to be a single bed with white sheets already on. In fact the room was really small and we had to put our suitcases (with suitable polythene underneath) on the spare bed or we wouldn't have been able to move. Also promised toiletries turned out to be liquid soap/shampoo dispenser, 3 cotton buds and a shower cap. Finally the wardrobe was very small, we were there for 3 nights and all the available "shelves" each had a pillow stuffed on which all had to come out and also be put on the "sofa".

Review 66:We liked the décor of our deluxe room and the friendliness of the staff over breakfast which was excellent and freshly produced. The eggs too, albeit every morning we had to ask at least twice! Also to be so close to the old walls was just amazing. Parking very convenient

Review 67:Need to park at the main castle hotel - difficult to work this out and instructions from reception not clear at first. Once we had worked it out it was no problem but would be good if they included this in booking instructions

Review 68:Location great - right next to the walled city. Great to have the pool and terrace bar to relax

Review 69:Not a thing

Review 70:A superb hotel, beautiful in every way, in a fantastic location. We could have stayed for weeks a never got bored. What a shame we only had one night.

Review 71:Didn't like the flooring in the suite and would have loved tea/coffee facilities in the room

Review 72:Excellent location, not only to La Cité but to bus stop, airport and new city

Review 73:wifi was a little slow..but of little consequence in such a beautiful place

Review 74:The hotel is fantastic, right beside the walls, pool area was beautiful and the patio area is lovely to sit in. Great value for money!

Review 75:we paid 20 euro for two gin and tonics outside in the evening which was really expensive, but the view was fantastic !

Review 76:we could use the pool/jacuzzi and bar of Le Chateau hotel across the road. Very relaxing atmosphere

Review 77:It was all ok, but the bathroom was very small and the room was horribly pink!

Review 78:The location was great, which I imagine is why I found it quite expensive otherwise for what you got.

Review 79:The bathroom was very small but we managed for a night. Don't let it put you off.

Review 80:A very friendly hotel which is well presented. Perfect location for seeing the sights of Carcassonne. It exceeded our expectations.

Review 81:While the hotel tries to maintain an upscale image there are a few things lacking: the room was tiny (there wasn't enough room to unzip one let alone two suitcases), there was no one to greet us at the actual hotel (montmorency is managed by another hotel across the street and reception is there) and the parking garage was not clearly labeled. Also the TV turned on automatically to show hotel promos every time we entered the room, which was annoying.

Review 82:Just steps away from the main attraction in town, the location cannot be better. Staff was very friendly and breakfast was yummy.

Review 83:It took quite a bit of adjustment to get into the toilet area. The room was just way too small. the bed was just barely ok.

Review 84:Friendly, helpful staff. Delicious breakfast. Very comfortable bar. Dogs are adorable. The room was lovely and clean, but the smallest hotel room I have ever been in. The shower was just heavenly and the tub was easy to get into.

Review 85:Bed was not as comfy as I would have liked.

Review 86:Great location, lovely décor and very friendly staff - multilingual, too! Delightful rooms and good value for money travelling out of season. Would absolutely stay there again

Review 87:Above all the animals - the wonderful basset is almost worth a visit on its own merits an made me really feel at home. The owners prescence and personal concrn in every detail is also remarkable.

Review 88:We were travelling with two dogs, the first room we were given stank of cigarette smoke, even though its non smoking hotel, we paid for a superior room, but they didn't have another one available so we got moved to a room with no balcony on the second floor, it was very hot for the dogs so we thought we would put on the a/c one of the reasons I booked here! only to be told it was not available at this time of year! so we opened the windows where upon one of our dogs tried to jump out! we got no refund for the fact it was a standard room, and no upgrade because the room we booked stank of smoke, wouldn't stay here again. Also beware everything else including coffee is very expensive.

Review 89:It was clean and the staff where friendly, would be fine without pets.

Review 90:Would have loved tea and coffee facilities in the room Ants in the bathroom Not having an in hotel restaurant, not clear from the description online Endless same music in the bar

Review 91:Car parking facility Helpfulness and disposition of the staff Breakfast Ease of online booking Being upgraded, thank you. Rapidity of repairing lighting issues on the steps

Review 92:The bathroom was a bit on the small side but I am being picky.

Review 93:Great location, very close to the main gate into the Cite. Parking. Very friendly staff, overall good impression and would certainly stay here again.

Review 94:When we arrived at the montmorency, there was no direction to where reception was and it was another guest who directed us there which was in a separate building altogether. The room wasn smaller than some closets we've seen and the internet had to be refreshed constantly. Overall, except for location, not a good experience.

Review 95:The location was excellent.

Review 96:Wi-fi was fair. Air conditioning was also fair and quite warm on some nights-- early October 14.

Review 97:Very pleasant staff. Nice breakfast and pool facilities. Location superb-- only minutes away from Medieval city.

Review 98:Having to leave!

Review 99:Very comfortable room, with lovely big bed. Staff are so friendly and helpful. The pool and jacuzzi are a fantastic extra, especially after a day walking the cite or cycling along the canal due midi.

Review 100:Nit picking. If your room is to the right of the foyer, beware the two steps! black carpet so they are not defined, making a good stumble spot.

Review 101:Situated at the main gate to Carcassone so just a step to La Cite and easy route into Carcassonne. The Montmerency has a lesser rate than the parent hotel but you are free to use all their first class facilities. Okay the room was not large but perfectly adequate, lovely decor and a sweet garden terrace. Quiet and comfortable. Cheap secure parking at 10 Euros a day. Don't be put off with adverse comments. about passwords etc. it is all very simple. Reception and bar staff most helpful. Views of the old town floodlight at night superb.

Review 102:Service levels mixed. Obviously high occupancy rates due to location. Room small, average and a bit tired. Entrance across the road from the main hotel which has a different name (Hotel De Chateau).Expensive parking (free car park next door).

Review 103:Couldn't be nearer to a world heritage site

Review 104:Room was too small for us to open our 2 hard case luggages. The sister 4 star hotel, Hotel de Chateau, looks fantastic and rooms look much bigger. Good to consider if price is not a huge difference from Montmorency. We wanted to upgrade but unfortunately it was full.

Review 105:Right in front of the castle. Unbeatable location. Can't get any better than this. Reasonable price too. Quiet, comfy room and bed. Nice toilet, great shower, very clean sheets and towels.

Review 106:the view of the car park, a large tree covering our balcony, blocked the carpark but would have been nice to sit out after a long day.

Review 107:location, pool, check in, parking facility, bar, staff, tv, comfortable room. clean. modern.

Review 108:Unfortunately the ceiling has zero sound proofing and footsteps and voices can easily be heard below. With a very noisy family above us on the first night of our 2 night stay, we couldn't get to sleep until post midnight. As it appeared that the noisy family had checked out the next morning, we chose not to check out in disgust and hoped for quieter neighbours the following evening. Not very bike friendly as were offered to secure our bikes overnight in an outdoor car park.

Review 109:Wonderful location just outside the old city walls. Stayed in ground floor room, with its very design-led decor of red and black. Good wifi signal.

Review 110:Very small room; noisy air con; bathroom tiny without any shelves for toiletries and a half-sized bath. No adjustment to shower angle meant soaking the floor.

Review 111:Right by the gates of the old city; food; ambience; staff pleasant; parking on site

Review 112:The cost of the breakfast is a bit excessive, given the location is near to restaurants. I think customers should be offered some use of the indoor spa facilities without having to pay for treatments.

Review 113:The location was excellent. The room was well decorated and comfortable and the location was nice and quiet. The staff were friendly and a good combination of high standards with a laid back approach.

Review 114:There was nothing we didn't like, it was a great stay.

Review 115:We loved our room, which had an amazing view of the Old City of Carcassonne...and the 2 dogs of the hotel that kept us company at breakfast :)

Review 116:No tea/coffee making facilities in room - had to use bar in sister hotel (Hotel Du Chateau) across road.

Review 117:Location. Easy to get to from airport - local bus dropped us off right outside hotel for 5 euro each. Really comfy bed. Huge bathroom.

Review 118:Hotel pet dogs(2), friendly but very large, insisted on joining us for breakfast Poor attachment of shower head over bath

Review 119:Location, relaxed ambiance and stylish decor

Review 120:Enjoying spectacular views whilst having breakfast, a late afternoon relaxation by the spar and pool, enjoying an aperitif while watching the sun go down over the Magical Medieval City of Carcassonne, cannot imagine any other hotel with so many plus points, we would certainly recommend this hotel to both friends and family

Review 121:Close to Citie Medieval was a bonus. Relaxing in the Hotel grounds, attentive and English speaking staff was welcome. Excellent breakfasts though expensive. Comfortable room with balcony much appreciated. Within 20 min walk of Carcassone city centre. Huge selection of restaurants, all a few minutes walk from the Hotel

Review 122:Hair dryer not very powerful - take your own.

Review 123:Great location and very comfortable bed. Spotlessly clean. Reception staff superb, especially the gentleman on duty for most of our stay. Nothing too much trouble and very helpful. Great bar area for an early evening drink. Nice swimming pool area which was very relaxing. The owners have a good presence and the old dogs and resident cat are a homely addition to the hotel too. Would highly recommend.

Review 124:I stayed at this hotel in August. As a solo traveller, I liked how close the hotel was to the old city. It was very convenient and I felt safe. The room was clean and lovely. I have already recommended this hotel to friends.

Review 125:No tea and coffee making facilities and the pillows lacked puffiness. Breakfast being included in price would have been nice :)

Review 126:Excellent location, very friendly staff, lovely terrace and jacuzzi.

Review 127:The room is small.

Review 128:A couple of steps from the Castle which is the main attraction in the city. Nice view during the breakfast. Very helpful and friendly staff. Lovely dogs in the reception! They make breakfast very funny! Good value for money if you want to see the Sastle.

Review 129:Booked a De Luxe Room but felt it was not deluxe, not sure of their interpretation of deluxe. However it was comfortable and clean, shower not very good and for a deluxe room I would have expected more space. No room for bathroom accessories and a hair drier on the wall etc. But only using the room to sleep in you can excuse these issues when the rest of the stay was so good. Would look at rooms though if I was running the hotel and make them fit a deluxe room. Always try and exceed expectations.

Review 130:The position cannot be bettered. Staff very friendly and efficient and outside area for drinks or breakfast very comfortable.

Review 131:I thought the rooms were cramped for eur110.00 per night a little coffee and tea would have been welcomed. I would have like more presence of staff in the bar area we sat 20 minutes before finally ordering our own drinks but apart from that a lovely hotel

Review 132:The location and overall experience of the hotel it was a tranquil haven from the beautiful but over loaded touristic site the medieval site The cite. It was lovely to see the dogs and cats made it feel very homely.

Review 133:The car park and the reception are in the hotel du chateau and you have to cross the street with the baggage to go to your room if you are at the Montmorency. The classic room toilet it's extremelly small. However if you are in the ground floor you have a nice jarden terrace.

Review 134:The hotel is excellent located. Even if you are at the Montmerency you can use the facilities and services of the hotel du chateau.

Review 135:Perfect location - literally steps away from Carcassonne City. At the entrance is a very chilled bar - a little like high end Ibiza. The website doesn't quite do justice to this gem of a hotel; much better than we were expecting. Staff and service, room - and pool - were all impeccable, and great value. Would not hesitate to recommend.

Review 136:The standard rooms are a bit small.

Review 137:Perfect location, extreme close to the old city. We had rooms in the 3-star hotel and we could enjoy the breakfast facilities and the swimming pool facilities of the 4-star hotel.Great breakfast. Very kind staff.

Review 138:Highest price yet second worst room of our trip. The so-called junior suite priced at 175 euros (not including breakfast) was nothing of the sort. It was just a smallish double room with a single bed stuck in the corner. Walking around the bed was difficult with the limited space and the wardrobe door would not open fully without banging into the bed. There are no facilities in the room, ie no coffee making machine, no fridge, no chair to sit on, no desk or coffee table. The wardrobe hangers are too low to allow a dress to be hung on without it crumpling on the base of the wardrobe. The lighting is poor and there is only one small mirror in the bathroom. The decor is garish, albeit better than the 1970s decor in some of the other rooms we saw. The pool is actually part of the sister hotel across the road. If you want to iron something they have an iron but not a board. So we had to iron using the TV stand. Staying here was a disappointing end to our trip as we paid more for what we thought would be some luxury but instead we have simply lined the pockets of the owners whose misleading advertising suckered us in. We did complain on arrival but to no avail. No idea why some of the other reviews are so positive.

Review 139:Shower and location
