Reviews for Hotel Du Pont Vieux
Review 1:There was no hairdryer in bathroom.
Review 2:Can't beat the awesome location next to the Cite Médiéval. And while the room we had was quite basic, the owners could not have been more gracious and accommodating. Breakfast was fab too!
Review 3:tiny staircase to rooms so take minimal luggage. Much older rooms very dated, we did not see nor have a modern looking room as shown on photos?
Review 4:Location to the castle and walled city is great but requires a strenuous walk up the hill so great if you want exercise not great if you have handicaps. good patisseries and restaurants all in walking distance. found parking on the street so lucked out. Room was good on cleanliness, quiet room too.
Review 5:Bedroom and bathroom badly in need of refurbishment. Shower head was not fixed to the wall, so had to hold it to shower. Fairly steep, winding staircase - difficult to carry suitcase and no lift. No carpets in hallways, so noisy when people walk past the bedroom.
Review 6:Lovely hosts, excellent breakfast. Spectacular view of the old city from the rooftop terrace.
Review 7:I loved everything but just to be aware for more elderly or infirm visitors the hotel does not have a lift and the stairs might prove challenging for some.
Review 8:Loved this hotel and especially the friendly welcome and interaction we had with its wonderful owners!! Quaint and quirky and steeped in history it was the perfect choice for exploring the beautiful Cite of Carcassonne and its surroundings. Very close to the Medieval City and in the other direction the new town across the bridge. Lovely spacious room kept immaculate by the lovely staff. Breakfast is served by the owners each morning and is great value compared to the restaurants with a good variety of continental foods available. Great advice and restaurant suggestions (with a map and free guide book) given at reception. Both hosts speak good English and are so helpful and genuinely warm people. Loved our stay here, it was just perfect and don't forget to pop up to the third floor to the little terrace to get some great views of the castle!! Oh and they also have a wonderful garden which you can sit in and relax...and drink wine!!
Review 9:A beautiful little hotel in a very nice part of town. Easy walk to the fort and to the train station. The owners are lovely people as well. Would definitely stay here again.
Review 10:A bell ring every hour beginning at 9:00am was a little bit annoying but it was not the Hotel's issue.
Review 11:Location, under cover car parking bay and very friendly staff. Owner gave good suggestion of dinner place and we have very good French meal.
Review 12:Everything was awesome!
Review 13:Great staff who had on-point recommendations about what to see and do in my limited time in Carcasonne. Also, AMAZING view of the medieval castle from the public balcony on the third floor of the hotel. The location is right outside the castle, which is actually better than being in the castle walls in my opinion because the view is better looking INTO the castle than looking out.
Review 14:The room need a bit of a refurbishment and we were told that this is due to be done soon. Otherwise no complaints at all.
Review 15:The proprietors were lovely and couldn't do enough to help. We arrived late at night and they made a few call to find us a place where we could get something to eat. A good breakfast is available if you wish. The hotel is very close to both the old town and the more modern town.
Review 16:Nothing.
Review 17:Charming rustic décor and attention to detail. View of Old Cite. Fab breakfast, bread excellent. Egg boiler fun to use. Very, very helpful hosts - organised car hire, lent us brollies, gave great advice. Can't praise enough.
Review 18:The Hotel owners, they were genuinely lovely, welcoming ,helpful and we could not have asked for more. They booked a trip for us as the local tourist office couldn't and it was wonderful.
Review 19:Everything. This is a 2 star hotel and the room and furniture were a bit worn. But it was cozy and comfortable with very helpful owners in a brilliant location just below the walled city.
Review 20:Right under the walls of the Cité. Brilliant for exploring the old town. There's an observation deck up on the top floor, with just the best view of the walled city. Wonderful friendly staff, and parking on site, too.
Review 21:A fabulous location - walking distance to La Cite and restaurants close by. Staff were very helpful with great suggestions. Room a little small but well appointed and we don't expect our North American size rooms anyway when we come to Europe. A very good and well priced breakfast. Would easily come here again.
Review 22:The hotel is in an old building. The interior, including the bedrooms were small and "quaint" which might be expected. While everything was clean the bathroom was tired and could have done with a makeover.
Review 23:The staff/manager/owners were excellent. Nothing was too much trouble and they assisted willingly often pre-emptying ones requirements. Breakfast is excellent value. Bed was cosy and comfortable.
Review 24:The shower hose had to be held by hand when showering. We only had a short stay so didn't mention it - otherwise I'm sure the staff would have been willing to move us if required.
Review 25:Furnished with a rustic charm. Roof terrace offers superb views. Breakfast - healthy options; delicious brown bread and home-made jams. Friendly staff.
Review 26:The stairwell is very tight when carrying luggage.
Review 27:The staff are very friendly, the rooms are very clean. The hotel has a great ambiance. Great location.
Review 28:Location, reserved parking, excellent staff and customer service. Clerk parked our car and when we left ran around and lifted cones for an easy exit out of the city. Fabulous view from room and roof top terrace. Wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 29:There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. I realise this was our mistake, but we missed having the facility.
Review 30:Great location, friendly and helpful staff, comfortable bed and very clean.
Review 31:The hotel was traditional, clean and very welcoming. The proprietor and his wife went the extra mile to ensure that we had a good time. The location so near the citadel was excellent.
Review 32:nothing
Review 33:There were mainly positives for this hotel. In terms of location, situation just around the corner from the castle, the main tourist attraction. There were an abundant of restaurants along the streets. The design of the building was rustic, quaint and cosy. Original medieval and gothic structures were present but modern improvements and renovations to rooms and bathrooms. The rooms were spacious and clean. Also the rooftop offers an amazing view of the castle. The neighbourhood was really quiet. Wifi was available and strong. Tv was available. Breakfast, buffet style, was provided. Overall, the hotel reflected the towns main tourist attraction, the Medieval castle so staying there created an atmosphere of the Medieval times.
Review 34:Nothing
Review 35:Hotel Pont View has the most perfect location in Carcassone. It is ideally placed at the east side of the old (foot traffic) bridge, so it provides easy access to the "new" city (with its beautiful downtown and canal cruises) and it is within very easy walking distance to the castle/ La Cité. It's outside appearance does not do it justice. Inside, it is quaint and very clean. The owners both speak excellent English and are very happy to help you find local activities and explore the area. When I could not get through on the Internet to make restaurant reservations (before we arrived) they graciously made the call for us and emailed us back to say that we were all set. Our room, although not modern, was clean, the bed was comfortable and we felt very much at home. The bathroom was huge and again very clean. There was a little board game room on the second floor landing. The little third floor terrace was a pretty place to take a bottle of wine at night and "castle gaze". The breakfasts were the best we have had on our 16 day trip - fresh eggs, home made cakes and jams, a brilliant coffee machine and smiling service. The breakfast room is a little small, but that didn't bother us because it meant that we got to meet some very nice fellow travelers. Jean-Michel and his lovely wife are wonderful hosts and we will absolutely be back.
Review 36:Very close to both the medieval city and the historic bridge across the river. Fantastic view up to the city walls and castle.Very friendly proprietors. Authentic old character hotel, well kept.
Review 37:We spent two nights in Carcassonne and stayed at Hotel Pont du Vieux. We were warmly welcomed by our hosts and our room was more than comfortable. Our hosts were very friendly and happy to meet our every need. Breakfast was another delicious bonus. Would definitely come back.
Review 38:Be prepared for the 54 steps to Room 19.
Review 39:Our room was a bit quirky but clean, comfortable, quiet and the view of the walled city from the window of our room (19) was spectacular. It was a good location and had secure paid parking available. The owners were very pleasant.
Review 40:Catherine and her hubby were SO professional yet combined that with a really welcoming friendly and attentive manner made me SO welcome. The room was spotless and so comfortable I would definitely of back. With a Glorious terrace on the third floor with a view to die for of the old City! What a find and equidistant from the main City and the glorious old City with gorgeous restaurants and wine bars opposite - coupled with the best patisserie opposite! A gem of a find at a great rate! Loved it and will go again! xx
Review 41:Owner was extremely accommodating. They opened breakfast early for us as we had a tour booked, also gave me extra Kleenex as I had a bad cold. Carried our luggage up and down the 5 flights of stairs.
Review 42:Ideal location for exploring. The owners were so welcoming, helpful and friendly .Lovely to breakfast in the garden and the nighttime view of the Cité from the hotel terrace was fantastic.
Review 43:The hotel could use a remodeling and it lacks an elevator.
Review 44:Great location with a spectacular view of the walled city of Carcassonne out our window. The couple who run the hotel were both charming and helpful and gave us good recommendations for restaurants.
Review 45:The owners were so helpful, nothing was too much trouble and they gave some really helpful recommendations for places to eat with children. Breakfast was amazing - such a wide choice, something for everyone.
Review 46:catherine and jean michel were exceptionally welcoming , with excellent local knowledge. having stayed in many hotels over the years they were by far the best hoteliers we have encountered. we will return.
Review 47:Really it was just fine
Review 48:It was just so very French; shabby chic you might say. It was ideally placed between the Cite and the Canal du Midi and the station.
Review 49:Shower curtain instead of screen or glass not very hygienic nor lack of cleaning around edge of bathroom , behind door etc.
Review 50:Great location and helpful owners.
Review 51:Everything was excellent. Nice and kind staff. Breakfast with hand made jams, regional cheese, fruit, bread, egg, having in the cozy garden. About 10minutes walking to the cite. Enjoyed fantastic view of the cite from the roof terrace.
Review 52:The hotel is in a great location, just 10 minutes from the old town but in a quiet street. Our family room was spacious with 2 bedrooms. The owners were lovely, very helpful. Breakfast was good value - we sat in the garden which was secluded and sunny. I would very much recommend this hotel for families. My son loved the board games they had.
Review 53:Location Staff very friendly and helpful Breakfast delicious with home made produce Lovely shady garden to dit in with view of the old city of Carcassone
Review 54:It was the loveliest hotel I've ever stayed in! I loved the view out our window of the castle , and the little sun deck! The breakfast in the courtyard was so quaint and delicious.
Review 55:Bathroom could be improved. Shower holder could be installed.
Review 56:The valet parking. Walking distance to the old city. Good wifi connection. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. Good airconditioning.
Review 57:Although it must be to save electricity, it was a little annoying to have a timed sensor light in the bathroom. Large clean bathroom but could use a little maintenance. Everything else was very OK, we would stay again.
Review 58:The front desk staff were always very helpful and friendly, we felt very welcomed. We found parking and access very easy. A very short walk up the hill to the old city and a great view from our room of the walls of the old city.
Review 59:Great location, just down from the castle. Lots of places to eat or drink just outside on the street. Great value breakfast which you can have in a lovely walled courtyard/ garden. Owners very helpful & friendly. Ask for recommendations of where to eat at the Castle - they know the best places.
Review 60:Super small hotel, well situated with a magnificent views on the old city of carcassonne. Easy to walk to it. Nice little garden in which you can have a drink or breakfast. Great friendly owners. Parking spaces. No elevator.
Review 61:A family run hotel by a couple who can't do enough to help and make your stay as enjoyable as possible. There is a great panoramic view of the old town from the rooftop balcony
Review 62:there is no lift and the hotel is on 3 floors so, if you are not so mobile ask for a bedroom on firstl floor. We were on 3rd floor and our bedroom had a marvellous view of the castle!
Review 63:Friendliness of owners. Generosity of owners who gave us 6 free tickets to a great concert - Johnny Halliday. Garden for breakfast and chilling out. Rustic french ambience. Parking on site.
Review 64:A lovely hotel, the gentleman on reception was very welcoming and helpful and the room was very comfortable. A very close wall to the walled city. Would definitely stay again.
Review 65:Owners/ staff super kind and responsive. Home made breads, cakes and jams at breakfast in garden setting. Quaint but comfy room. I loved the marble floor in the bathroom.
Review 66:Two minor complaints: night-time lighting was very poor for desk-work; and only one chair was provided in the room.
Review 67:Very friendly, helpful staff. Second floor room had a pleasant outlook to garden courtyard below. The latter was a also a good daytime or evening relaxation spot.
Review 68:Free Wi Fi required putting in a different code every day to access it which was a bit of a pain.
Review 69:Great Breakfasts in their nice secluded sunny Garden and a nice place for end of the evening drinks and chill out under the stars. Great little sunny roof terrace as well with a fantastic view of the castle. The owners are very nice, attentive and very helpful. We would definitely stay there again. Great Location. Very nice local outside on street bars, restaurants and patisseries on your doorstep.
Review 70:Room was much much too hot - uncomfortably so. Aircon worked for a few mins but then started to blow hot air. There was a lot of noise from the bar/band across the street - but at least they were pretty good!
Review 71:Great location. Very friendly and helpful staff with good English. Secure parking at a fair cost. Would stay here again.
Review 72:The rooms were dated but that's ok it was clean. the bed was quite small and A little uncomfortable. the bathroom is definately in need of a refurbishment it's Starting to become grubby and worn.
Review 73:Hosts were fab so friendly and helpful. 5-8 mins walk to medieval city
Review 74:Small hotel run by a charming couple. They are very helpful with recommendations. Rooms are large, and there is a spectacular view of the old city from the roof terrace. Location great
Review 75:Lighting in bathroom was very limited. Lights automatically turned off after a very few minutes. Had to keep waving arms for light detector to turn lights back on again...not especially convenient when in the middle of using the toilet, bathing, drying hair, or applying makeup. Have never encountered this before in a hotel bathroom.
Review 76:Loved the hosts and breakfast. Good for one night stay.
Review 77:If mobility is an issue, be warned the staircase is spiral, quite narrow and made of stone. There's no lift. I'm not sure this is made clear enough.
Review 78:The location was ideal. Easy walking distance to both 'old' Carcassonne and to la cite. Rue Tivalle is an interesting street in its own right with several restaurants only metres away from the hotel. The hotel is also only a short walk from the Dome where the airport navette picks up/drops off, with a plus point of walking across the wonderful vieux pont to get there. The hotel itself has an appealing simplicity, is full of character, and extremely welcoming and helpful owners.
Review 79:Everything was good except no parking so we parked on the street, luckily for us we found a spot not far up the street.
Review 80:I like the fact that the owners let me have a cup of coffee in my for no charge. A nice gesture of good service.
Review 81:It would be an overstatement to say the room was shabby. Mismatched tile floors, lumpy bed with poor pillows, poor lighting and a shower that one had to hold up. The furniture was worn down and mismatched. They wanted to charge 8 Euro for breakfast, and didn't even have good bread...we went to the patisserie across the street. The circular stairs did not allow traction and I fell down several steps trying to carry luggage downstairs. It was very unsafe.
Review 82:Proximity to the Cite was easily walkable...but the hotel itself did not have a view of the castle despite its description.
Review 83:Having to leave :-(
Review 84:The hotel has real character, from the stone winding staircase to the scent filled garden to rest and have a beer or glass of wine. Lovely management and fantastic location.
Review 85:Our hosts were very welcoming and our room, though modest, was clean and comfortable, with a well-equipped bathroom and plenty of hot water. We also had a view over the delightful walled. The hotel is well situated for access to both the old walled city and also close to riverside walks. There are several excellent restaurants within close proximity to the hotel.
Review 86:The room was totally worn-out. The bath tube had a huge rusty spot. Toilet seat was cracked. Wallpapers didn't look clean. The joints between the tiles were dirty. The whole place requires renovation. The price was extremely high for such a low quality room (it doesn't cost even a half of their standard price) - if we knew in advance we'd definitely stay away from this place.
Review 87:None
Review 88:There is no lift which may be a negative for some depending on age or mobility. However it's absence didn't bother us and is understandable given the age & charachter of the building. Wifi while free was sometimes inaccessible & sporadic given the apparent number of users.
Review 89:V Friendly & helpful owners/staff & we loved the convenient location. Only about a 10 min walk to the Cité & a 15-20 min to the train station & canal boats. We were there at the beginning of May & found it lovely and peaceful with no noise intrusion at night. (Our room was at the back of the hotel however when returning at night the road at front also appeared to be quiet. This may have been due to time of the year but it appeared that the majority of bars/restaurants in the area do not remain open late at night). Lovely courtyard with seating area at the back
Review 90:Just the wifi, it was hard to use and the connection kept reseting, requiring we put in the password again.
Review 91:The owners were amazing. They went out of their way to give us good recommendations on where to eat, where to visit with a car, and what to see within Carcassonne.
Review 92:A truly relaxing week with very helpful advise on where to eat in the old & new parts + how to get to places etc.Nothing was too much trouble for the new owners,Jean-Michel & Catherine
Review 93:The staff were very welcoming and could not have been more helpful. The room was a good size and simple, and the en-suite was very large. The breakfast was buffet, and ample. The location is in a quiet old street outside the cité, but close.
Review 94:Wifi connection awkward and needs to be simplified. Charge made for our dog which was was not exactly specified at time of booking.
Review 95:Very friendly and helpful owners. Excellent location with short walk to old city of Carcassonne.
Review 96:Third floor isn't for aged people With heavy luggages. Ask for lower floors.
Review 97:Localization, appliances, bathroom, wifi and super outstanding assistance from the staff. All advertised features are real.
Review 98:Wi-fi could be better
Review 99:Very good small hotel in a walking distance to historical center. Stuff is very friendly and willing to help. Rooms are not so small as they looks on the photos. Very clean and comfortable. I'm surpised that hotel is ranked 2* only as majority of 3* don't have such comfort.
Review 100:There was nothing we did not like. The owners have recently renovated and are still busy doing behind the scenes renovations. However, nothing about this is noticeable by guests.
Review 101:We liked the warmth of the owners, the location, the size of the room, free WIFI and, the breakfast. In addition, there is a lovely garden which should be well used for breakfast and apertifs (late afternoon) when it gets warmer.
Review 102:Very friendly staff, good breakfast, great location, many restaurants nearby and a short walk the the castle and other aminaties with parking near by, highly recommended. They even supplied a bed for our dog!
Review 103:Did not really like Carcassonne , town centre was very run down, not much to do. It was the middle of January and a lot of places were closed so it was hard to find somewhere to eat, especially on a Monday and Tuesday
Review 104:Visiting "the cite" it is almost like being in a fairytale
Review 105:The bathroom had no ventilation and we couldn't fix the shower to the wall.
Review 106:The room was nicely decorated, we had a friendly welcome and the breakfast was excellent.
Review 107:The new owners are warm and helpful. Everything about our stay was perfect. This is not an institution, it is an intimate, family-run old fashioned inn. Comfortable and great value for money. Lots of character and special touches such as the bell from the former convent and the availability of board games.
Review 108:This hotel has new owners, who are really wonderful. They have an older place here, and are slowly modernizing it. meanwhile, it is charming, and so is Catherine, one of the owners. The breakfast served was the best we had in a 7 week trip, and the location is great, just below the castle walls, (lovely view from our room), and quiet. The surrounding neighborhood is also interesting, and the city itself is lovely. There are a great many walks that one could do, and we really wished we had stayed much longer than just the two days. This town has much more interest than just the castle, and the hotel is a perfect place to stay. I wish them well.
Review 109:The shower has a "sit in the tub and spray yourself" kind of faucet. This is probably in need of renovation.
Review 110:The proprietors of this hotel are very friendly and accommodating. It is a two-star hotel at the base of le Cité within easy walking distance to everything in Carcassonne. We did not take breakfast, but it seemed nice.
Review 111:Though clean, some rooms would benefit from upgrading.
Review 112:Excellent location midway between citadel and ville basse. Friendly welcome from young, enthusiastic and very helpful owners. Excellent buffet breakfast.
Review 113:There is no lift but the winding stars are ok with light luggage.Request parking in advance.
Review 114:Location 5minutes walk from castle, quiet street ,restaurants nearby, parking, very comfortable beds in family room, big, clean bathroom with good water pressure from hand held shower, self service and all you can eat breakfast for 7.50euros each, proprietor was friendly and helpful. This is a hotel a lady traveling solo would feel comfortable in and a true bargain so close to the castle walls.
Review 115:Tea and coffee making facilities were not available in the room and we missed our morning cup of tea. The décor was rather tired and the bathroom a little dated but despite being a simple room it was nevertheless clean and comfortable and there was plenty of hot water.
Review 116:The hotel was quirky and charming. Deceptively large with a labyrinth of rooms and corridors. A setting for a story. The location couldn't have been more perfect; a small side street with fabulous views of the stunning medieval city which was 5 minutes walk away. Our room overlooked a pretty courtyard garden. The owners of this hotel couldn't have been more helpful. I would certainly recommend Hotel Du Pont Vieux to those looking for a more authentic visit.
Review 117:Decoration very tired. Room small and cramped. Bathroom good size but poor facilities - no provision to hook shower hose up so had to use as hand shower.
Review 118:Location of hotel to the Cite.
Review 119:Warm welcome from owners who provided safe storage for our bikes, and suggestions of view points for the citadelle. Facilities a little bit aged but clean and tidy, and room of a good size. Would not hesitate to return.
