Reviews for Moulin de l'Abbaye
Review 1:The hotel upgraded us since it was a slow night, and gave us impeccable service, including bringing up a champagne bucket with ice for the hot tub out on the private terrace!
Review 2:Our character room in the Mill House had an open plan, glass fronted walk-in shower and wash basin in the room which offered no privacy at all. Nevertheless the shower was superb. Wifi reception not good.
Review 3:This lovely hotel has a beautiful river side setting in a wonderful town. Stayed in the main building (the Mill) and had lovely views from our room. The hotel had a warm atmosphere and real charm. Dinner was excellent, breakfast good but no menu changes while there. Would definitely stay again.
Review 4:Nothing
Review 5:The hotel was very clean and all the staff were very helpful and friendly The food in the Resterant was excellent and thank you to Julie for makeing us so welcome
Review 6:Nothing to not like at all
Review 7:An amazing high end luxury hotel in an amazing French village! We were upgraded to a suite because they had no twin rooms available. ..totally stunning room..huge! Quiet location next to the Abbey and church on the river. ..really lovely staff too!
Review 8:Amazing setting, very comfortable tho shower arrangements in Room 5 'open plan' and not ideal. Beds comfy, staff very efficient and charming. Food excellent.
Review 9:Breakfast was very poor for the price paid. We could not get a good enough WiFi connection in our room to book our next hotel and as we were in the building over the river needed to go over to the hotel lounge to make it work.
Review 10:Had been looking forward to our stay here having driven past many times on our way to the Moulin de Roc. Nothing awful about the hotel but somehow it just did not deliver. Had an end of season feel with the staff just going through the motions.
Review 11:Breakfast could be better and more substantial.
Review 12:Charming, romantic hotel in a splendid location with views on river , waterfall, old mill, ducks, in one of the most beautiful villages of France.Excellent, genuinely friendly service.
Review 13:No tea making facilities in room when remote from main hotel Room on the pricey side for overall quality
Review 14:Location of Annexe Breakfast quality Bistro v good value quality
Review 15:We weren't in the main hotel but over the road. No balcony or outside area which I would expect for the price.
Review 16:Lovely big family room, huge bath. Staff very polite.
Review 17:Beautiful luxury hotel right next to the abbey and and built in the old abbey mill. Friendly staff, comfortable room and wonderful restaurant. Great location next to main tourist site in Brantome but quiet and relaxing.
Review 18:breakfast was very basic it did not have any cold meats and you had to pay extra for anything cooked
Review 19:the position of the hotel was excellent as we had a room in the mill main house
Review 20:Would have preferred more choice on menu. Magret de canard was the meat option and that is not our favourite meat.
Review 21:The facilities in the Abbot's House were excellent. The attention to detail was very good and the staff wee pleasant & helpful.
Review 22:The location is perfect. Car parking in the "cave" directly opposite the hotel was ideal (kept the car beautifully cool). The staff were happy and more than helpful.
Review 23:Nothing except for poor wifi
Review 24:One of the most gorgeous places That almost looks not real , it's as if it's made for a move set. Amazing stay , wifi poor, drinks in the afternoon on the side terrace, though I would avoid the dinner , one of our worst.
Review 25:The only downside was that they serve fois gras in the restaurant, a disgustingly cruel product but unfortunately everywhere else does too.
Review 26:This is an absolutely beautiful hotel, full of charm set in an amazing location. We booked a character room with a terrace overlooking the river. The staff were very friendly and helpful too.
Review 27:Found internet connection inconsistent, bit annoying having to continually resign in.
Review 28:Courtesy and helpfulness of all staff. As our French is limited never felt that we t a disadvantage.
Review 29:We were in the separate building on the other side of the river. Felt like a B & B not a hotel. Didn't really use the hotel facilities as too far to walk. Doesn't work at all as a hotel if you are not in the main building. Very disappointed with staff reaction to our complaints - just totally ignored, particularly the lack of Wifi in the room.
Review 30:View of the river
Review 31:There are 3 separate buildings, two close to the bar, reading room and restaurant, and one ≈300M away. You have no choice as to which room block you are allocated to. We were in the far-away building, and our take was that it wasn't as romantic as the closer rooms.
Review 32:Great location, attentive staff
Review 33:The only problem at all was a wi fi system that shut down frequently and required continuously retyping a complex alphanumeric username and pass code .
Review 34:The staff was very helpful and readily available. The restaurant was superb with an excellent selection of regional wines. All this in a setting that kept us asking, "Can a place really be this beautiful?"
Review 35:The location and hotel were both superb. The staff was professional and went above an beyond to be helpful. Our stay was the highlight of our trip to France.
Review 36:The service at hotel was impeccable, we were well taken care of the whole time, the staff were very obliging. The food at the restaurant is fantastic but a little expensive, but we loved it all. Would absolutely recommend!
Review 37:The young staff tried hard but were inexperienced. We thought that the attractive room rates were being used to tempt bookings. All the other costs were at the upper end of the scale.
Review 38:Magic setting and delightful public areas particularly the dining room
Review 39:As it was a special occasion we paid for upgrade to a Tradition Room, noresemblance to the photos depicted of a Tradition room at all, it hadplain magnolia walls and little decor. The width of room was the doublebed plus bedside cabinet. Not in the Mill itself, but literally directlybehind the Mill therefore no river view either. Perhaps the hotel shouldshow more photos of other rooms to give clients a clearer idea ofexactly they will be getting. No wifi in the room only intermittently inthe lounge. Breakfast ridiculously expensive for only a continental.
Review 40:Excellent location. Reception and staff very friendly and helpful. Decorof lounge and restaurant lovely Gardens and the actual water millstunning right next to the bridge. Large comfortable double bedEnjoyable well presented meal, altho a little pricey.
Review 41:Food overpriced and not worth it; being offered a table by the river, then at dinner being told we couldn't have one (we complained, and were eventually given one); poor drinks service on the terrace.
Review 42:Idyllic setting, brilliant location on the River Dronne within easy walking distance of centre of Brantome; welcoming and helpful reception staff, beautiful room.
Review 43:Absolutely nothing.
Review 44:I can honestly say that my bedroom was one of the most comfortable and characterful rooms I have ever stayed in in 53 years of travel in France. There was a stunning view of the river and the main hotel from my attic window : an idyllic situation to spend a few nights. The neighbouring restaurant 'Au Fil de L'Eau' - run by the hotel - provided the most interesting meal of my week's holiday. A bowl of fresh strawberries in a little bowl beside my bed after turn-down almost brought tears to my eyes.
Review 45:It sounds like nit-picking but.....lots of French TV channels, several German channels, one channel in English, and that was CNN, so heavily biased towards the US. Wifi isn't good in the rooms. Breakfast at €17 was a basic continental breakfast. They charge a supplement if you want things like ham, salmon and stipulate how many slices you can have! This is at odds with similar hotels and seems a little "mean"!! A gourmet breakfast is available for €27. Yes. €27.
Review 46:This is a beautiful place to stay. Brantome itself is a lovely little town set on the river. The Moulin itself is well furnished; our room had a four poster bed which was very comfortable. The bathroom was well proportioned and had a bath and hand held shower, complimented by a full range of toiletries. Beautiful views of the river and weir from the windows. The hotel has a restaurant, which looked very nice although we didn't use it. Hotel staff are very pleasant, particularly the reception staff and the ladies who brought us strawberries when they came to turn down the bed. There is secure parking, which is important because Brantome has lots and lots of visitors during the day.
Review 47:Wlan didnt work well, dropped often. Dont go when you are on business:-) slightly "pricy" limited breakfast (considering thehigh level of the hotel... We skipped breakfast and went to a smallplace in town)
Review 48:Convenient location in Brantome beautiful building and view best food wehad during our trip very nice employees at reception desk, helpful andwarm welcome parking availability
Review 49:The restaurant service was a little chaotic.
Review 50:Location & shuttered bedroom windows. Good breakfast. Restaurant lovely next to river. Staff very helpful especially with one of our party in a wheelchair.
Review 51:We were quite dedicated to enjoy the well-known restaurant. We ordered atable already in December, after being asked by the restaurant if wewere interested! We were provided with the worst table available and hadto ask to be moved. It took the organisation 10 minutes to find adecision: we were alowed to move, but not to better section of theresturant. I must say that I am not used to be treated like this. Highlymotivated customers are usually the best a restaurant can wish. Was itour lack of French? The circumstances of the restaurant leadership ortheir prejudices made our stay less enjoyble, which I regret. The foodwas indeed excellent and the Moulin would have deserved better.
Review 52:Nice setting and good atmopshere
Review 53:WiFi could be upgraded , but is workable although clunky and out of date
Review 54:Spectacular location in " The Venice of Perigord " with great views Fine cuisine & great wines, expertly served by knowledgeable and helpful staff Highly comfortable

Review 79:Nothing bad to say.
Review 80:Loved the riverside location and having dinner on the terrace.
Review 81:The location was perfect; picturesque setting, quiet, beautiful, and the staff was very accommodating. History was all around us, great to stroll.
Review 82:The breakfast was disappointing for the price. Limited choice and quantity.
Review 83:The staff were truly exceptional. Caring and attentive. Excellent service.
Review 84:A breakfast was very expensive ( 17 euros ) and very poor.
Review 85:A beautifull place, side on the river.
Review 86:It would have been nice if the TV worked, but we really didn't matter.
Review 87:Wonderful staff, excelent ammenities, superb room with a bidet.
Review 88:Couldn't,t use terrace as it was being cleaned, breakfast in salon was uncomfortable
Review 89:Food, comfort of room, friendly staff
Review 90:The Wifi is weak and inconsistent.
Review 91:Pretty well everything.
Review 92:Charm, location, lovely staff
Review 93:Comfortable room and bed. Warm room on a very cold night in February.
Review 94:The setting, the food
Review 95:It IS expensive, but so is Champagne!
Review 96:Upgrade was unexpected, and freely offered. Food "complex" but superb. Breakfasts heavenly.
Review 97:Food could of been better and very little chose of breakfast
Review 98:Location of the hotel and lovely village
Review 99:Food was excellent and the view from our room was stunning. Quaint and beautiful a real treat
Review 100:Staff, location, value for money, under rock car parking. Morgan on reception was excellent
Review 101:cannot think of anything!
Review 102:staff efficiency and professionalism of the organisation together with a wonderful location.
Review 103:Staying in rooms across the road from the main building. Hallways in the building in which our rooms were located.
Review 104:Setting on river. Restaurant.
Review 105:Mattrass and wi-fi connection
Review 106:Food dinner/breakfast, decor and room.
Review 107:Dirty breakfast cereal bowls.
Review 108:Staff, atmosphere , location. Studio room was very smart, comfortable & stylish.
Review 109:We wouldn't like being housed in the Abbott house if we came again.
Review 110:Everything
Review 111:Wifi was a bit slow but not too bad
Review 112:If recommend moulin d' le abbey to anyone. We stayed for our mini honeymoon and decided to stay an extra night. They upgraded our room at no extra cost. The staff were lovely, facilities excellent, breakfasts and bathrooms superb, will definitely go back
Review 113:Wi if a bit unreliable
Review 114:Individual attention from staff. Arrived for my friends birthday-card and a rose plus fresh strawberries in the room. Lovely spacious room with good view of moulin and river. Dog friendly.
Review 115:Leaving! No tea making facilities in the room. Wi-fi a bit hit and miss.
Review 116:We had suite 6 which has a fantastic view. L'Abbaye is very dog friendly and staff are extremely helpful. Food is fantastic!
Review 117:The stunning location in a beautiful town. The friendly and helpful staff. Loved our personal note each night with a weather update and what was on in the local area the next day.
Review 118:We were disappointed not to be able to eat in the restaurant on our first night as the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays, however, the receptionist booked us a table at an alternative restaurant which was good but not the gourmet experience we were looking for. On our second night, we were able to eat in the restaurant and eagerly awaited the fabulous dining experience. Unfortunately, whilst the food was good the experience was let down by the total disorganisation of the staff. We were seated in the restaurant and then had to wait for what seemed like an age before anyone brought us a menu, a couple on another table had to go and get their own as they obviously felt they had waited long enough. Between courses the staff walked past our empty plates numerous times before they were eventually taken away. The staff were totally disorganised and it did spoil the experience.
Review 119:Very friendly and helpful staff on arrival and throughout our stay. We had a wonderful room overlooking the bridge and abbey. The room was spotless and all the facilities were first rate, as expected.
Review 120:Very small room and bath
Review 121:Staff were fabulous-food was superb-just a tiny bit too small.all in all great experience and would highly recommend especially to honeymooners and younger couples.
Review 122:Bad reception on arrival, mix up with room, not given the room we paidfor. For per dinner drinks they had run out of gin !!! We had to ask formenus, then no one came back for the order. Had to take ourselves to therestaurant . Will never go back or recommend it.
Review 123:Position was superb
Review 124:Slightly slow service outside on the bar terrace for drinks, and the bar inside had no airconditioning on a very hot evening. The wifi did not work for multiple gadgets. But these are very minor things.
Review 125:Wonderful location, glorious food, very comfortable room with excellent airconditioning and tons of L'Occitaine toiletries.
Review 126:Brantome is a beautiful village and Moulin de L'Abbaye is located in the most beautiful part of Brantome. This boutique hotel has a lot of character and is very charming. The staff is warm, friendly and attentive. The restaurant is expensive but well worth every penny.
Review 127:The service in the restaurant was extremely poor. Our order was taken bya waiter who kept poking his finger at us in turn for each course andsaying 'You' 'You'. Extremely rude. We had to keepasking for our wine to be poured (it was at some distance from the tablewhich is fine but the waiters do need to notice empty glasses. Theservice was generally slow and at the end of the meal we finally had torequest that the table be cleared while we finished our wine as we wereleft for ages sitting with the debris of the cheese and dessert course. This really lets the hotel down.
Review 128:The reception staff were very good and the hotel is beautiful. Thelcation couldn't be better. Our room was lovely.
