Reviews for Palacio de Monjaraz
Review 1:My experience in this hotel was very good specially the night staff he was very helpful as well as the morning lady , I well came back for holiday season
Review 2:the only two things are: - the building should have a better identification as it was not very easy to find. - the room can be noisy. this is understandable because the house is old so it is easy to hear people walking/talking through the corridors. For me it was not a problem because the rest was so positive but, go prepared for that.
Review 3:Oh my god. what a place. for the price that I booked I am sure it would be very hard to find an equivalent place anywhere in the world. 10.
Review 4:Noisy room, you can hear the whole entire conversation of the room next. Bit unpleasant smell.
Review 5:Super kind staff, the lady in charge is really nice. Great location inside Avila Wall and next to a cheap parking lot in case you go there by car.
Review 6:The hotel is very old and soundproofing is not excellent. Luckily our neighbours were quiet, as we could hear them quite clearly. On Friday evening, there was the sound of muted voices and music from the bar until 3 in the morning. It didn't bother us or interrupt our sleep, but if a visitor is noise-sensitive, there are likely quieter rooms that could be requested!
Review 7:The hotel was full of atmosphere and absolutely gorgeous. Our room was clean, beautifully decorated and cosy and warm (underfloor heating). The beds were comfortable. We opted for the breakfast option and were not disappointed with the delicious offerings in the lovely eating room. My daughter and I read for hours in the lounge area on comfy couches in front of a pretty Christmas tree. The staff were professional and kind. We were able to leave our bags after check out and collect them later, which was an enormous help.
Review 8:I can hardly begin to tell you how awful this place is. It'snoisy, dirty, uncomfortable and the workmanship in the bathroom wasclearly carried out by a digger driver with time to spare. There was ahole in the bath surround, the basin had a crack, the drains stank andthe smell covered by an electric air freshener. The location was worsethan many in the old town. There was no arrangement for parking. Thebar staff were blatantly rude. The young female receptionist sufferedfrom an affliction normally attributed to 18 to 24 year old maleswhich is known as idiocy. Although she "worked" there shehad no idea where it was. This "hotel" is an affront to the1000's of trusting people who use booking dot com. The pointsystem is obviously not giving people the correct image of what theymight encounter. We are appalled and it is hugely over priced. Howthis dump managed to get a single star we cannot say. If I had a pet Iwould forbid it to stay here.
Review 9:Nothing
Review 10:Don't know if it was the thick walls but WiFi didn't work in the room. Was able to use it pk downstairs but a little inconvenient
Review 11:Very friendly, helpful staff. No problem finding parking for my bicycle. Room very high standard.
Review 12:Not really a pleasure to arrive. There was lots of noise in the room at night, so we couldn't sleep. Furthermore the room had nothing special. Not worth the price.
Review 13:The sitting room at the entrance where you can drink a free coffee is a nice feature.
Review 14:Some disturbing noise (cars, voices) from the narrow street at night. The room's key card had to be reactivated almost every day.
Review 15:Beautifully restored old building with a special atmosphere. Very good location, very good breakfast.
Review 16:Excellent position near the cathedral, very large family room (composed by 2 rooms), ancient but clean furniture, confortable bar available for guests.
Review 17:No lift to the rooms, no restaurant and no air conditioning. Noises in the street. The room needed lots of fixing.
Review 18:Location. Really good for visiting Avila.
Review 19:The remote parking was not available and street parking was hard to find. Breakfast was OK but would have expected better.
Review 20:Excellent location and historic feel.
Review 21:No lift. No yoghurt and poor selection of fruit for breakfast. No car park.
Review 22:Four poster bed, fridge with free water and coffee. Very pleasant room. Very helpful receptionist. Lovely atmosphere.
Review 23:This place needs airco, way too hot in room. Small uncomfortable bed, matrass didn't fit the bed, loose headpost. Showerstand also loose. Downstairs everything looks beautiful, rooms are very clean and an affort is made to decorate, but the details are dodgy. Everything loose and squeeky floors.
Review 24:Breakfast was excellent
Review 25:The WiFi is intermittent and doesn't work very well. The shower gel in the bathroom is not very nice and smells like chewing gum
Review 26:Friendly staff and great breakfast. Very good location
Review 27:Unexplicably warm floor in our room with no air conditioning in summer. Cooking smells from neighbouring restaurant permeating room.
Review 28:Welcoming staff! Stunning, very central property! Very tastefully decorated with spacious bathroom.
Review 29:The car parking was a little difficult and had no direct access. There are no lifts. The summer could be hot as there is no air conditioning.
Review 30:The building is very attractive and well maintained. The bedroom was large and the amenities all good.
Review 31:Hotel underground car park not accessible for big cars and had to use a pay and display car park close by, also having to return to the car to buy more tickets as maximum stay was two hours
Review 32:The decor was superb
Review 33:Absolutely everything - when our kids saw the room, they asked if we could skip the rest of Spain and just stay in this hotel:) It is very beautiful and feels very authentic, like the rest of Avila. Our family room was very spacious and the "hallway" outside it was actually a living room with a fireplace! There was complementary water in the fridge and the coffee machine downstairs was wonderful. There were no problems with the wifi. The staff was impeccable and extremely helpful. The location is very convenient.
Review 34:Antique furnishings are beautiful but sometimes create awkward spaces in the rooms. Wifi was intermittent and worked badly in rooms.
Review 35:Beautiful historic building, nice common spaces, location in center of old town.
Review 36:Wifi didn't work in our room which was the last one in the corridor. We had to go out of the room to the corridor for to use it.
Review 37:The location was very good and the room was romantic.
Review 38:. the lady from the reception suggested some restaurants, specially one in front of the hotel, saying that it was one of the best in town. We had the worst meal of our whole trip. Later we saw some of the service people in the restaurant in the reception of hotel. It may be related to the management. I do not recommend it at all (it is called Alcazaba).
Review 39:. hotel decor, mainly the lounge . location, close to the cathedral . silence of the hotel . close to public parking lots
Review 40:Creaking floors, no lift. Quite disappointed for having been charged 30.00 more euros for my 7-yr old child who shared our bed anyways when other hotels didn't even bother to charge us. I guess this is true to struggling hotels in remote villages in Spain that will look for a way to squeeze out every bit of your money.
Review 41:It was a former palace and that is something intriguing. Room is big and bathroom was clean.
Review 42:Wifi didn't work very well in our room. We had to go to the other end of the corridor and there did it work excellent. Wifi connection was very good also in the reception.
Review 43:The room was beautiful but it was too warm.
Review 44:No kitchen or even hot cattle, you can just drink tap water or go to the restaurant. WiFi is just a joke, you need to stay in the corridor to receiver signal, once you are in the room, no signal. Good for couples for honeymoon but not for backpackers as too less facilities.....
Review 45:The decoration of the accommodation was pretty good, it's like living in a castle, with lots of vintage stuffs. Clean and comfortable bed, very nice chef and staff.
Review 46:We liked everything! but specially the price and location, a great value for our money. We also loved eating at the restaurant Alcazaba, right across from the hotel, the food was amazing and great price and our waitress was amazing. We will love to go back to Avila and stay in Palacio Monjaraz.
Review 47:everything was wonderful. I really liked the small details for example 2 espresso capsules for free. Very clean and perfect position, in less than a minute you are in the mayor square of the walled city.
Review 48:Staff not able to recommend restaurants open on a public holiday.
Review 49:Loved this converted old premises. You have to park outside the walls but it isnt far and it easier than navigating the narrow lanes. The family room is on two levels away from the road. It was perfect for us.
Review 50:Access is very challenging in this narrow streeted walled city. No signs on the building made finding it difficult. Even the locals didn't know. But nonetheless it is a wonderful place.
Review 51:The hotel was wonderful an ancient city palace. The staff were very helpful. The room was excellent and very atmospheric. I would recommend.
Review 52:Very uncomfortable beds. Tried to give us smaller room rather than the one we booked. Sockets not working. Shower ran cold. Heating by portable radiator.
Review 53:Good quiet location
Review 54:Our room was turned to the back, where is the hotel bar and bottles storage and at 2 AM I wake up with the noise of glass bottles being thrown to the storage. The wood floor is beautiful but very noisy.
Review 55:Location; Easy to park the car; Staff
Review 56:There is no private parking, but there are public parking available nearby.
Review 57:Nice staff, beautifully decorated (as a palace) and confortable room, excellent location.
Review 58:Almost impossible to get to by car..my sat nav had a fit. Any rooms near the bar mean that there is no sleep to be had before 3 am!!!
Review 59:A lovely quaint hotel with fantastic decor and excellent staff.
Review 60:Bad noise isolation to other rooms, it felt like somebody was snoring in our room! Only one very large cushion for two over the length of the bed and no extra cushions... not practicle at all! Whereas the common rooms look renovated in style, the rooms and bathroom could do with a rewamp! It used to be another hotel until some time ago and you can feel that only some parts have been improved.
Review 61:Extremely friendly personnel, very helpful, good location in centre close to main square. Above average breakfast for Spanish purposes with buffet and eggs cooked to your liking. All in all, good value for money.
Review 62:The double bed was romantic but on the small side...ideal for French lovers!
Review 63:Extremely beautiful building and history in old Avila with excellent ambiance and service! Highly recommended to those who appreciate old charm! Hans Verver
Review 64:Room was very hot as it was in an attic and although very spacious had only tiny book size windows that could be opened providing hardly any ventilation. It needed air conditioning as was suffocatingly hot and claustrophobic despite the size. Staff kindly provided us with a fan which we had to leave on all night.
Review 65:Location and building. Clean, luxurious and spacious.
Review 66:No AC and the rooms get very HOT. If you open the windows it cools somewhat but you hear loud noises first from the attached bar then again from a further away bar until 2 am. The floors creak loudly and you hear through the walls to the other rooms. Tried to get an afternoon siesta but no sign for the door and was interrupted. Breakfast croissants were doughy and eggs extremely salty. All in all it looked good but wasn't that great. I recommend getting a hotel outside the city wall and park in free parking just outside and walk in.
Review 67:Staff was friendly but helpless to fix the known problems. It is a beautiful old building with great accents and a wonderful eating area but needs modifications to be a decent hotel.
Review 68:Nothing. I recommend this hotel.
Review 69:This is a great hotel in a palace in the historic centre of Avila. The staff were excellent and it was a pleasure waking up for breakfast in the airy breakfast room. Easy access to all the main sites and an authentic experience staying in this charming hotel. It was easy to find and I could park the car just down the street.
Review 70:A few small things in the bathroom didn't work. i.e. no washbasin plug and the bidet lid didn't stay up.
Review 71:The quiet and convenient location and the ambience of a lovely old building restored with great care. Restaurants conveniently near. Parking outside the walls was easy, cheap and close by.
Review 72:this hotel is like a real fairy tail. with special atmosphere of old times but very clean, well kept and designed with good taste. parking is only few steps from the hotel
Review 73:Perfect location for a city visit.
Review 74:Lack of elevator and no parking were a little troubling.
Review 75:Great ambiance and nice location inside the city walls
Review 76:Historical atmosphere
Review 77:It was very noisy. The coffee machine did not work in order to make the complimentary coffee
Review 78:very clean, friendly staff, unique
Review 79:Great location, friendly staff, very comfortable room, good breakfast & nice bar attached to the hotel
Review 80:Hot night in unairconditioned room
Review 81:Walled city
Review 82:Bed was small and hard and no airco
Review 83:Location and character
Review 84:nothing... having to leave
Review 85:Rustic traditional feel
Review 86:Wonderful old building with furniture to match but still comfortable
Review 87:Bed was uncomfortable.
Review 88:Location was wonderful. Hotel was clean, bedroom spacious. Great value for money.
Review 89:Excellent location, ambiance, interieur. Very good breakfast, friendly staff, great bar.
Review 90:The noise outside & the breakfast was plain
Review 91:The room, service, location
Review 92:WiFi may be a bit slow. No view from the window.
Review 93:Welcoming staff. Privacy. Nice common area.
Review 94:location, confort and personal very good.
Review 95:Wall was thin, and could hear baby cry from next room.
Review 96:Spacious Room
Review 97:Bed very small only 4 foot and very squeaky
Review 98:Good location once you were able to find it good value for money
Review 99:Breakfast could be a little bit improved.
Review 100:The charming old building. The room. The location just in the middle of the old town.
Review 101:the only thing to mention is that the walls are very thin, if you are a light sleeper then it would be a problem
Review 102:Location, cleaning.
Review 103:No lift
Review 104:Being inside the city walls Easy parking Ancient building Beautiful room, traditional furniture Friendly receptionist
Review 105:We loved the atmosphere and the details of the hotel. The receptionists were extremely helpful and kind, they really made us feel welcome.
Review 106:The walls need more sound-proofing, heard the activities and tyalks of people in the neighbouring room far too well
Review 107:Lovely house and room, plenty of room for 3 people, very helpful staff, the house made us feel special, liked the atmosphere.
Review 108:We found the position of the plasma TV quite funny, as you could not watch it without being constricted by the bed board. In our opinion, the tv didn't even have to be in the room, maybe only a smaller one, positioned somewhere else. The sheets were itching, as if they would have been made of wool.
Review 109:The design of the former castle hotel is amazing, makes the stay quite special. We had a lovely room, bright-full and nicely decorated. Both receptionists, Alina and Mimi, were very nice and helpful, offering trips and tricks of sightseeing in Avilla.
Review 110:The staff and location
Review 111:This was a 16th century palace within the walls of Avila. A wonderful building.
