Reviews for Hotel Central Anzac

Review 1:It's a bit run down. Bed and pillows were only satisfactory.

Review 2:Right in town. Across the road from the train station. Friendly staff. Breakfast (extra cost) is varied, copious and delicious.

Review 3:No elevator. Didn't worry us but could bother others.

Review 4:Great location near the railway on a quiet street within walking distance of everything. Friendly family hotel. Lots of choice at breakfast. Quiet room. The Christmas market was fantastic.

Review 5:Quality of decor, upkeep and breakfast vastly varied from excellent to not quite so good.

Review 6:Location was excellent, breakfast was varied and plentiful. Staff v helpful, happy to speak in English and put up with my franglais. They even phoned to let me know we had left something.

Review 7:The walls are thin and smoke filters through from the smoking rooms and there is a lot of noise from the street.

Review 8:This hotel is all about the perfect location. If your in town to do a battlefield tour then it's a great hotel to stay as it's Australian themed. The breakfast is good and plentiful at a cheap price.

Review 9:The room was crowded for 4 with a small bathroom. Fine for one night, just. The lighting was poor. The tea and coffee at breakfast let down the lovely food.

Review 10:Great location, close to the cathedral and Christmas Market. Breakfast was brilliant, woke to the smell of fresh baked croissants.

Review 11:Parking on the road is difficult better to use multi story next to train station.

Review 12:Location is good. Cathedral here is called Notre Dame and looks nicer than the one in Paris. Shutters on Windows give great sound/light exclusion

Review 13:The first room we were shown on the ground floor is poor. I would describe it as shabby and in need of upgrading and brightening up.

Review 14:The location of the hotel. The breakfasts are good and there is choice.

Review 15:We got a room with shared bathroom which was on another floor. Hotel is non smoking but it felt like someone was smoking in our room. Not very comfortable overall. And not that close to city center as I expected (10-15 min walking)

Review 16:It's was cheap.

Review 17:The noise! Ask to be on the first floor, rather than ground. At street level, the noise outside my window, from the room above, and the open-plan breakfast room was absolutely terrible.

Review 18:Proximity to the train station, and pick-up point for my Somme tour, couldn't be beaten. Breakfast was plentiful - although check that the egg cooker has been turned off!

Review 19:Room was small and shared toilet was inconvenient.

Review 20:Clean room and friendly staff. While the toilet was shared in the hallway; having a shower and sink in the room was convenient.

Review 21:No lift, but I was given a first floor room.

Review 22:Location is great for train travellers, as the hotel is a 5 minute walk from road front of station. Cathedral, and town centre are under 10 minutes walk. Supermarket, Post Office, restaurants, and an upmarket Irish Pub with great food, and staff are only minutes walk away. Rooms are typically old style French decor, including creaky floor boards.

Review 23:Very friendly staff who understood English and also allowed us a late check in and held our bags for us while we went out for the day before picking them up before catching the evening train. Very close and convenient to the railway station from Paris. Quiet and safe location.

Review 24:The room and particularly the bathroom was basic, the lighting and the WiFi were weak. As well the building does not have a lift so guests on levels above ground have to lug heavy suitacases up several flights of steep stairs.

Review 25:The friendly and helpful owners, the good breakfast and the convenient loaction for taking the battlefield tour

Review 26:It is called the Central Anzac hotel and there are dozens of Australian flags but no NZ flags! know the hotel was founded by an Australian but I must find a way of sending one or two NZ flags, before they change. The NZ division disembarked at stations just north of Amiens to take up positions at Mailly-Maillet and then pushed the Germans east to Le Quesnoy.

Review 27:Location within easy walking distance of everything in central Amiens. Still has lots of 1920s character. Rather an amazing breakfast I recall. Is the hotel next to a bakery? Good value for money and you really feel as though you are in France.

Review 28:Furniture in room dated. Room smelt of smoke even though no smoking room. Bathroom could have been a little cleaner.

Review 29:Staff were lovely and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious and reasonably priced. Didn't charge our youngest for breakfast. Great location.

Review 30:Apart from the creaking floors, the paper thin walls and sharing one toilet per floor, the name of this hotel is Central ANZAC but it features only Australian flags!!

Review 31:The breakfast was amazing! There was a wide selection to choose from and it was all delicious.

Review 32:Old building without sound proofing - a snoring guest in the room above woke me up at 3am. Not for a light sleeper...

Review 33:Located a few minutes walk from the centre of Amiens. Helpful and welcoming staff, and an extensive and interesting continental breakfast buffet. Parked my motorcycle in the car park of the hotel next door free of charge - €5 per night per car if space available.

Review 34:The pillows were not the greatest.

Review 35:The location was central to everything. The staff were fantastic, friendly and very helpful. The breakfast is probably the best you will find in France! Absolutely beautiful selection of food. The smell of the lovely food being prepared wafting through the entry foyer makes you very hungry!

Review 36:The manageress was delightful, very kind and went out of her way to change our room to a ground floor as I had an injured foot, this was offered voluntarily and without us even asking. She also brought me some ice for my foot! Breakfast was fabulous, amongst other things a huge choice of many home made pastries which were delicious. Location is great, just around the corner from the cathedral and all the restaurants.

Review 37:The wi-fi didn't work well from our room. Would have preferred a duvet to sheets (although there were duvets on the bunk bed)

Review 38:The family room was great. It's two rooms joined by a doorway (but no door) with bunk beds in one and a double in the other. Loved the electric shutters to ensure a good night's sleep. Nice to have two tv's in one room, one for the kids and one for us!

Review 39:No toilet or shower in the room (which I knew when I booked it), but there was a sink in an enclosed area.

Review 40:The best thing about the hotel is its convenient location, just a stone's throw away from the train station. And from the hotel it's a short walk to the cathedral and other sights. Also, the staff is nice. I mostly dealt with a friendly lady who spoke English. When I first arrived she showed me a couple of different rooms I could choose from - that was nice. The breakfast was ample, a lot to choose from. (It costs 8 euros but is worth it - why spend money on just a coffee and croissant in some cafe?)

Review 41:Lost over 2000Euros checking my travel card on the free wifi. Idiot of the week award to me.

Review 42:I liked the locality, The people at the desk. Comfortable.

Review 43:When tired from a day's walking, our second floor room was a climb, but that's not the hotel's fault!

Review 44:The warm welcome with our shared French/English, atmospheric very French intense colours in the decor, and our host is a patissiere, so fresh croissants from his oven each morning.

Review 45:The free Wi-Fi connection only works in the reception, the signal does not reach the rooms. There is no lift, so carrying the luggages upstairs can be problematic

Review 46:Very good location, friendly staff, comfortable enough for the price. Good place to stay for a couple of days

Review 47:Rooms abit Basic But Clean and comfy but as it was very cheap I was very happy

Review 48:The Staff were Great and The Breakfast was a real Treat lots of range and fresh baked the Guy Serving was very Nice and friendly

Review 49:Breakfast was disappointing, fruit in fridge looked a week old, not replaced while we stayed. A bit noisy, creaky floors and noisy street.

Review 50:Location. Hosts were friendly.

Review 51:Old, noisy building.

Review 52:The location was perfect -- train station down the street, shopping / restaurants within a block, and the cathedral a few blocks away. The staff (owners?) were absolutely wonderful.

Review 53:The shower mount was broke and should have been replaced. The bed gives you the idea you're staying at your grandparents' house. The lady at the reception told me wifi was choose Orange and go, but it was necessary to register.

Review 54:The receptionist noticed that I overlooked part of the breakfast buffet and brought it to my attention.

Review 55:No bad experience but room could have been more spacious, bed more cmfortable and decor more bright and cheerful. Everything was intact and functional but "tired"

Review 56:Price, location, pleasant staff

Review 57:Toilet and bathroom facilities were a little far from room. Wifi a little unreliable.

Review 58:Close to rail station; staff friendly and helpful. Quiet location.

Review 59:The people at this hotel made our stay an absolute pleasure. I highly recommend you get the breakfast. Many pastries are homemade. It's a pretty basic hotel with lots of stairs to climb but we enjoyed that. Incredibly comfy beds. We awoke to a lovely breeze, birds chirping after a very restful night.

Review 60:We could only stay for one night, however i have promised to come back again and will recommend Carpe Diem B&B to all my family and friends that will be travelling this way. Klaas and the team were so accommodating. The position of the B&B was right in the heat and very close walking distance to see the last post played at the Menin Gate and access to the main restaurants and wonderful chocolate stores. Klaas met us with a warm smile and a friendly welcome. We had wonderful conversations and it was lovely to get to know the host. He recommended a fantastic restaurant and made the booking for us to ensure our spot. His family also organise mini tours and very accommodating and helpful for what we were looking for, thank you Janne. The rooms are very spacious, extremely clean and very comfortable. Wifi and all facilities available in the rooms. They made you feel at home even though we are miles away. Highly recommend this accommodation and will be staying here again on another extended holiday in Belgium. I can not express how satisfied we were with this family run business. All the best for a successful future.

Review 61:Some rooms are on the street. It wasn't a problem for us, but as it is old glass, you can hear noise. The glass is nice though!

Review 62:very clean, bed comfortable. Lady in charge really nice and helpful (baby bed already set up, put us in a ground floor room specially). Good breakfast too. Location also ideal for getting around and no problems with wifi anytime.

Review 63:The bed was a bit hard. No elevator so lugging the 34kg suitcase up to the 2nd floor, on a narrow staircase, was hard work but we were warned and this is an older property.

Review 64:Very close to the train station. Low price. We didn't have breakfast here but it smelt very good and the other guests seemed to be enjoying it. We were allowed to leave our big suitcase there while we completed a 1 day tour of the battlefields. Excellent shops close by and lots of different cuisines on offer at numerous restaurants- also close by. Hotel is old but clean and well kept.Good value for money.

Review 65:The hotel is very tired. We'd booked a family room and were in the attic - although it was actually clean, it felt shabby and a bit grubby because it really needs a bit of tlc

Review 66:The breakfast was amazing and the staff were very friendly

Review 67:Only thing is expect creaky floorboards.

Review 68:This hotel was great value for money. Comfy room. Yes, it was small but it was comfortable. The shared facilities were clean and well kept. Breakfast was delicious. French patisserie and home cooking at its finest.

Review 69:The Hotel is within sight of the rail station. The room was cosy, clean and comfortable. Madam is friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was more than adequate and value for money.

Review 70:Amiens is an expensive city so unless you're prepared to pay top dollar, don't expect anything too swish. Price for this hotel was on a par for similar in the area.

Review 71:Location, almost opposite the railway station, ideal if travelling by train. Room was small, but that's normal in France, but beds were clean & comfortable.

Review 72:apparently only rooms out to the noisy street. rooms could use a makeover

Review 73:Very friendly, helpful owners. Good breakfast. had a room with shared bathroom. bathroom was quite big and new.

Review 74:The area the hotel was in, I'd say not the best part of town No lifts. We were told we were on the first floor was that okay, we said yes. However, the first floor turned out to be the TOP FLOOR, four flights of steep stairs!!!

Review 75:Breakfast excellent, full selection of foods available, even pancakes! Staff pleasant and spoke English

Review 76:The smoke alarm in our 4th floor room was not fitted and there was onlyone exit route (down main stairs). Outside all rooms there were orangewires hanging - I think they were for a smoke detector system. They needone - not good.

Review 77:Good value hotel, very nice breakfast

Review 78:The Wi-Fi kept dropping in and out and was a real problem. There was no curtain on the window which I thought was amazing as lying in bed you looked straight into the window of a property across the courtyard. Lucky it was the beginning of winter.and the sun never rose until 8 am. There is no elevator in this hotel and luckily I had read a review that said that and was given a room on the first floor. Steps, large suitcases and older people do not go well together.

Review 79:the hotel was very central to the train station. The staff were very helpful but as I said only stayed one night, I didn't get the opportunity to sample breakfast. The room was very adequate for the price. Clean and quite large.

Review 80:Room was next to communal toilets & showers so had people coming & going past my room at all hours.

Review 81:Handy for the main railway station & access into town. Plenty of bars & restaurants nearby.

Review 82:The pictures advertising the breakfast sold us on this hotel and it did not disappoint. In fact the breakfast went beyond expectations. The hotel is a block away from the gare and the pick up point for our tour of the Somme battlefields and memorials. The inn keeper was friendly and saw to our every request and at times anticipated our needs, She was great.

Review 83:The Anzac reminded me of the delightful family run hotels that France abounded in 50 years ago. The hotel is simple with no frills, but our room room had a top class bathroom. And as other guests have noted the breakfast was superb.

Review 84:The perfect location sadly meant that it was also the noisiest. Our room was on the 1st floor & overlooking the street, all night there were cars, drunks & sirens meaning sleep was impossible & as room had no air con you couldn't close windows to deaden the noise. No secure parking Creaking floorboards & paper thin walls/ceilings also meant that noisy fellow guests caused much disturbance all night. Never been so glad to check out of a hotel

Review 85:Clean room & lovely modern bathroom. Perfect location for everything in Amiens which is a lovely place to visit

Review 86:Was a great find! Really central to everything my friend and I wanted to see. Friendly staff, good breakfast worth the extra 5euro. Accommodation basic but fine for the price. Parked on street with no issues.

Review 87:carrying bag up stairs. toilet down the hall was what we opted for, but it had "men" sign on door and was a bit smelly.

Review 88:Central to centre old town

Review 89:Wi-fi connectivity is very poor. The strength of Wi-fi is much better with the adjacent hotel. i got connectivity with the adjacent hotel which was more good than Central Anzac.

Review 90:I like the location of the hotel, which is very near to the tourist areas of Amiens, train station and some good restaurants. It is a good value for money.

Review 91:1.Being asked to pay up front. Never happened before, anywhere. 2.Room was small and dingy on the ground floor with people walking past the window. 3.Difficult to find.

Review 92:The lady owner did all she could to make our stay as comfortable as possible and was very helpful. Breakfast was very good.

Review 93:Disturbed a couple of times in the night by guests using the shared toilet at the end of the corridor next to our room. Some noise from room above in the morning.

Review 94:Friendly welcome from the lady at reception who gave us directions and information. Good value and quality breakfast. Good location in quiet street. The en-suite was quite small with tiny sink but our friends room on the upper floor had a bigger en-suite so just luck of the draw really.

Review 95:Noisey street , no secure parking or bar.

Review 96:We used the ANZAC for an overnight stop on the drive back from southern France. It is clean and comfortable with a good breakfast selection and 5 minute walk to the restaurants. Great overnight location but not for long stay .

Review 97:The decor was dated, but it's a small, non-chain hotel so we didn't expect top design awards. Everything was clean and that's the main thing! We were on the top floor, with a narrow staircase for my mum to navigate, and no lift. As the hotel is right on the street, it could be a bit noisy at times with the window open; at night it wasn't a problem, and the hotel guests themselves were quiet. A kettle and tea/coffee making facilities in the room would be good to have (there weren't any). Parking is on street and metered from 0900-1900, but isn't too expensive. There are other parking options nearby.

Review 98:The lovely lady at reception (the owner?) was warm and welcoming and very helpful. She wasn't fluent in English (nor I in French) but between the two of us we worked out the parking and the local attractions, all done with a good laugh. She was really terrific. The room was basic and freshly cleaned (and smelled of bleach). The beds were comfortable and there was a decent TV in the room. We didn't take the breakfast option as there were so many patisseries nearby, but whatever she was cooking in the kitchen smelled very good. All in all a comfortable stay, and a very short walk to the cathedral.

Review 99:Strong smell of cigarette smoke in bedroom

Review 100:Central location with secure off street parking available for a small charge. Excellent continental breakfast Friendly welcome Excellent value through Booking.com

Review 101:The hotel was not fancy, but clean and very adequate for one night. The front desk staff was very helpful, even tracked me down to deliver a message from a friend I was meeting in Amiens, and gave great advice to see the cathedral when lit up at night. Great location for train travelers, right across from the train station. It was a bit difficult for us with the car to drive into central Amiens, but we found parking right in front of the hotel. I would stay here again for the price

Review 102:Mid-France was hot last week, and there is no AC. B&B needs to buy and offer fans to guests. We bought one and left it with them.

Review 103:The staff was great: the food, fine. 3ocation couldn't have been better. 5-10 minutes from sights, great restaurants, etc. Easy to get to and back out of town.

Review 104:Blinds did not function. Shampoo was absent in bathroom. No air condition. No place for the luggage, noise on the street at night: simply a neglected place.

Review 105:This is a two star Hotel, so we were not expecting too much, but the equipment of the rooms is a bit too poor. Compared to the Brussels Hilton (weekend rate), which was only 10 Euros plus, there are worlds in between ...

Review 106:This is an older style hotel, very French. If you want all the mod cons go somewhere else but if you want a place with character at a great price this is it.

Review 107:Friendly staff who were very helpful. Lovely quaint older style hotel, basic without all the modern fittings but for the price great value.

Review 108:Friendly welcoming staff Comfortable bed Plenty of pillows and towels Breakfast cost €7.50 but plentiful and varied table. Parking a motorcycle securely for €5

Review 109:Wifi wad horrible, had to log in every 20 minutes. Also free parking on the street was difficult to get, we ended up parking at a city lot about 5 minutes away.

Review 110:Great location.

Review 111:Easy to find; friendly staff; for a budget hotel there was plenty of space (especially bathroom); very good breakfast; excellent location for restaurants and sights.

Review 112:Cental location and fantastic breakfast

Review 113:No tea and coffee making facilities in the room.

Review 114:Perfect location for exploring the city with a hearty breakfast to send us on our way!!

Review 115:Marvellous breakfast!

Review 116:Older property and not updated.

Review 117:Great location; atmospheric with sense of history.

Review 118:Bit of street noise so if you are a light sleeper (I'm not) it may be a problem

Review 119:Basic but clean, really good water pressure in the shower

Review 120:The location was good, very central. Only there for 2 nights but have no complaints. The breakfast was great.

Review 121:Nothing.

Review 122:Friendly welcoming staff. Nice breakfast. Centrally located.

Review 123:No lift, my fault forgot to check, but we survived

Review 124:Location excellent, staff friendly and helpful

Review 125:Good cheap hotel near the train station. Nice staff, tv and wifi. Toilets out of bedroom, but for 45€, it's a very good trade.

Review 126:Parking is a nightmare. Room is basic with a nice view of a roof.

Review 127:Lovely friendly owner and comfy bed.

Review 128:The woman at the reception was really nice and very helpful. The location was very convenient

Review 129:Two minute walk from the train station, easy to find. Wonderful staff, breakfast an extra 8€ but well worth it.

Review 130:Close to Railway Station and the town centre. Staff cheerful.

Review 131:The breakfast and owners were absolutely lovely. So kind and helpful despite our lack of proper French. We felt very welcomed.
