Reviews for Palacio Chaves Hotel
Review 1:none
Review 2:There are only seven rooms in hotel with beautiful layouts and outside pavilion. The host greeted us and explained to us the history of the hotel and how to navigate and make the most of our stay in Trujillo. It was amazing.
Review 3:It is a little hard to find the first time if arriving by car.
Review 4:The Palacio is an historic property that has grand rooms and a very beautiful garden. It is very close to the historic center of Trujillo.
Review 5:Trujillo is already beautiful but to find this extraordinary hotel was a really exciting moment...beautiful walled garden and pool stunning room and then the books....and then to find them on sale! It was also lovely to meet the charming owner.
Review 6:Although it was 31 degrees (and had been for some time) the pool wasn't ready for use.
Review 7:It was fantastic to stay in such a wonderful building. It's like living in a library, with an amazing collection of art books. There's parking right next to the hotel and it's near to everything. Trujillo is just beautiful
Review 8:nervous drivers beware, but take your time and you'll be ok. Windows don't fit very well
Review 9:A beautiful building and garden in the best part of Trujillo. Free parking very near. Very helpful manager.
Review 10:Nothing really, just a little difficult to navigate the medieval streets in a car!
Review 11:Unique palacette with all the historic nuances & feel of previous ages. Manager was exceptionally helpful. Wish we had stayed longer
Review 12:We love the warm hospitality of the owner and his wife, the book collection (wall to wall in more than one room) of the owner who is an English professor, the garden and pool (it was too cold to use the pool, but it was early spring and we could see the beginnings of spring growth), and the breakfast was tailored to our appetite and preference (almost buffet). The location is just a short 10 min slow stroll to the square, and the accommodation is behind the church. There is on site parking within 10m of the accommodation. If you do drive, avoid a large cars, as the streets in some of the rustic towns are narrow.
Review 13:Difficulty in checking in because nobody was on duty. Although contact numbers to ring were posted our mobile couldn't get through. Fortunately a helpful neighbour assisted us in locating someone to let us in. Croissants at breakfast needed either more time in the oven or cooked at a higher temperature. A daily change of towels would have been nice.
Review 14:Great location inside the old city walls surrounded by historic buildings. The hotel itself was amazing with a really interesting interior. We had a spotless and suite. The garden was beautiful. The staff were helpful.
Review 15:Nothing. There is nothing that I would change.
Review 16:It is such an unusual place. It is part of the castle and has so much character aswell as comfort. Breakfast is also great. Stayed here twice and will be booking to stay for 2 days next year.
Review 17:This hotel was medieval and quite extraordinary, it was like staying in a castle with it's wonderful stone staircase and beautiful library where you could borrow any books you liked. The drawing room was large and homely with french doors leading into a lovely garden with a large swimming pool. We shall definitely be returning for another visit.
Review 18:The beauty and the atmosphere of the building, the location and the panorama, the possibility to park right beside the hotel. Az épület szépsége és hangulata, az elhelyezkedése, a kilátás, a parkolási lehetőség a szállás udvarán.
Review 19:There was no bar so couldn't get a drink (even water) after returning from a fabulous meal in the main square
Review 20:This town was an amazing find. the hotel was beautiful and clean. It's atached to the castle at the top of the town so a little difficult to find. You can't take cars up to the top so be warned there is a steep 10min walk to get to the door
Review 21:Museum-like house. Nice location.
Review 22:nothing.
Review 23:Beautifully furnished....handy for exploring town...Omar (staff) very helpful....would certainly stay here again.
Review 24:cosy, charming, small, well located, very friendly, great value for money
Review 25:lovely property in the heart of the old town, a really different hotel option and such a nice change from a standard modern hotel.
Review 26:Ninguna pega.
Review 27:Todo perfecto.
Review 28:Historical interior. Fabulous secluded garden. Helpful, approachable staff.
Review 29:Nothing
Review 30:to stay in a small 16th century palace was wonderful, the ambience was superb, staff helpful & obliging.
Review 31:character
Review 32:The hotel was an amazing medieval palacio - loved it. Definitely work a few nights
Review 33:Pity that the pool wasn't ready as summer is around the corner.
Review 34:Friendly, helpful staff and ambience.
Review 35:Attentive staff; character of building; spaciousness; value for money
Review 36:Location is really good and staff were fantastic. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, would totally recommend.
Review 37:Nada
Review 38:Great property in a exellent location
Review 39:The weather! It poured with rain.
Review 40:A beautiful hotel in the old part of town. Fantastic welcome and excellent attention.
Review 41:This is our second visit and we weren't disappointed. It is a delightful friendly place to stay
Review 42:Beatiful setting, and decoration
Review 43:The staff was great, we arrived very late and the young receptionist waited for us and opened the inn. The inn was beautifully decorated, I wished we'd had more time to enjoy it all.
Review 44:Nothing.
Review 45:The location in the middle of the old walled city and the free parking right outside the door. The fantastic service and the spacious room. The town is an absolute gem. This was our second visit within a year as we did not get a good enough look at Trujillo the first time. We were not disappointed!
Review 46:Unless you have a car or are very, very fit, the location, quite some way up the hill, becomes a bit of a problem. It's a fair climb, and there are no dining possibilities at the hotel or anywhere else in the immediate vicinity.
Review 47:This hotel is unique with its beautiful antiques, paintings and furnishings. My room ( it turned out to be a suite of rooms!) had books, works of art, oriental rugs. Lovely views out over the garden. Modern luxury in the bathroom. All spotless.
Review 48:1. Absolute nightmare if arriving by car - you either need the help of the hotel manager to lead you through the narrow streets or a very cool head to find your way, especially if in an unfamiliar (ie hire) car. 2. Price was high given that beds were small and the breakfast poor value for money. I don't regard 1 roll plus 1 small slice of processed ham and ditto cheese as 'generous'.
Review 49:Undoubtedly a beautiful collection of art, books and lovely enclosed garden.
Review 50:Very narrow streets to navigate and not easy to find (at least for us).
Review 51:Beautiful atmospheric building and gardens set high on the towns hill side amongst many other fabulous buildings and historic sights.
Review 52:The history and character of the property. It is close to all the historical sites, restaurants and bars. Large rooms and no noise from other guests.
Review 53:Magic place! Absolutely fantastic and beautiful hotel-palacio. All was perfekt for us - we are everytime looking for different and special places. One of the best locations we have ever been. Many thanks to Seif to welcome us so friendly and for professional service.
Review 54:This is our second visit to this wonderful hotel. It is a fascinating and beautifully restored building in an amazing setting. You feel as if you are staying in a country home, rather than a hotel. A very special place.
Review 55:This hotel is absolutely beautiful. We loved our stay. Breakfast was simple but generous. As others have said, it is like being in someone's lovely home. Thoroughly recommended.
Review 56:A well maintained hotel, full of character and history; managed by a pleasant, welcoming, attentive young couple; great location in the old town, all within walking distance; impressive antique books and furnishings; breakfast- with rolls, pastries, croissants, jams, ham, cheese, juice, coffee; quiet, peaceful setting. Free parking. Trujillo and this hotel - a wonderful combination! We will come again.
Review 57:The stairs might be difficult for elderly people
Review 58:A beautiful old Spanish building in a historic location. It was quiet and atmospheric. Staff were friendly and helpful. It was near the town centre. We will come back another time!
Review 59:Location right in the middle of this magnificent old town. Free parking right outside the hotel. The palace was absolutely stunning - the one place that we will definitely return to. Trujillo deserves at least a two night stay - there is so much history here. Excellent staff - helpful and friendly.
Review 60:A beautiful, small hotel in an incredibly lovely building with very friendly and helpful staff. Very quiet and a lovely garden and pool. Recommend it very highly. Slightly difficult with a car but staff are very helpful with this.
Review 61:couldn't stay there longer
Review 62:hotel superb and village amazing only medieval castle walls, hotels and houses in the upper area but one way streets difficult to navigate if you own a large car - dog friendly bedrooms; delightful swimming pool in hidden garden
Review 63:Trujillo truly is another world, an ancient mountain top walled city that time forgot. The owner has wisely put signs directing you to his extraordinarily lovely home; just keep following them and you’ll enter the original medieval city gate and soon see the hotel in front of you with much-needed private parking to the side. The home is magnificent, the rooms and baths excellent. The manager is most helpful with getting your bags up the very uneven stone stairs and serving a simple, but adequate breakfast. Superb restoration comes with issues, however; be alert to the many uneven steps and low stone doorways. But it is definitely worth it to secure an upper story room! Charming adega within a few minutes walk and excellent restaurants on the Plaza Mayor, a five minute walk within the city walls and down a path on a moonlit night into a wonderous town center. Following another reviewer’s lead, we stayed five nights visiting Merida, Caceres, the Serra Monfrague, Plasencia and Guadalupe – an excellent base!
Review 64:This truly is a special place to stay. The hotel staff are most welcoming and helpful. The room was large and very nicely furnished. The sun terrace and the swimming pool were delightful. A great place to relax. Will definitely stay here again.
Review 65:Food overpriced, min bar ridiculous price, and you should leave bottles of water for free in room.
Review 66:Rooms. Loved the, location, shame weather cold so couldn't use pool that seemed super,
Review 67:Make sure the staff knows if you arrive late
Review 68:This is one of the best hotels I've seen and I've seen many. The hotel itself is just gorgeous and has plenty of style. Theterrace is beautiful, staff uber-helpful, breakfast delicious.Don't think twice.
Review 69:We loved the unique style and history of the place. Beautiful salons and library as well as a very nice garden. The location was wonderful and it was an incredibly relaxing environment.
Review 70:Hotel is situated in the old centre. An employee gided us to the hotel. Personel friendly. Hotel is an old Palacio, exellent restored, spendid room, hotel has a special athmosphere, i.e. a lot of art books wich can be readed. If you look for a restaurant, ask advice!
Review 71:Palacio Chaves is not excactly a hotel, it is a medieval palace where you are a guest rather than a client or customer. You may enjoy an extensive library with old books and magazines, launge with convenient armchairs and good paintings (old and modern) or a garden with stunning view over the roofs of old Trujillo. The location and service are also great. Public parking is good (not on the street). We can't imagine a better place to experience the atmosphere of this old spanish town.
Review 72:Great inside and out, book-lined walls everywhere, comfortable couches, high, beamed ceilings, the whole place is full of character and peaceful, day & night. In Room 5, from one window we could see mountains in the far distance and from another window, lovely garden views and ancient buildings. A very comfortable, spacious and private sitting room adjoined our bedroom. Great location, right in the heart of the old town, a few minutes walk from the Plaza Mayor.
Review 73:It was unfortunate that the swimming pool had been cleaned after the winter and could not be used - it looked more like a garden pool and not a swimming pool.
Review 74:The hotel was delightful with plenty of attractive communal space and a wonderful , peaceful garden.
Review 75:The accommodation was good but it is stretching it to call it a hotel - there was never anyone around except at breakfast/checkout. The pool had not been cleaned at the end of last season so it was full of horrid green water full of decaying leaves.
Review 76:Lovely walled town, few tourists. Stunning views of snow capped mountains. Easy to explore on foot. Good restaurants within walking distance. The Palacio has interesting rooms including an extensive library.
Review 77:Difficult to reach by car, the mobile number given in Booking to call for help didn't work.
Review 78:A renovated renaissance palace, it feels like staying with friends, great location to visit Trujillo, very friendly staff, unique rooms.
Review 79:The location-- it was uphill, but not far from the Plaza Mayor The atmosphere -- a 16th century small palace, with lounge library, secluded garden The very helpful and friendly staff The beautifully served breakfast, simple but good quality, including the offer of eggs
Review 80:Very difficult to find because of location, narrow streets of old town and absence (bar one) of signs to hotel itself. More of a (very) unique B&B than a hotel. Rooms very gloomy because of small (C16) windows and very subdued lighting. Breakfast adequate, but exactly the same each day of our 5 day visit. Only one front-of-house employee, who did his best but could do with some back-up.
Review 81:The books, which are everywhere and innumerable, antique furniture and prolific pictures and drawings. An extraordinary, albeit somewhat dusty, atmosphere. Garden also an attraction, but needs considerable attention. Easy to park car nearby once we found the way. We upgraded to spacious and comfortable suite with access to garden after initially being offered (somewhat claustrophobic) room with tiny window. 'Hotel' is essentially a library with some accommodation - certainly to my taste but not necessarily everyone's !
Review 82:Driving to the hotel is tricky
Review 83:Magnificent old house in the heart of the historic centre of Trujillo, with comfortable bedrooms, magnificent public rooms full of artworks and an amazing collection of books and a lovely garden
Review 84:Breakfast was a little sparse (though typically Spanish) and notserved until 9 am which would have been ok if we'd been spendingthe day in town.
Review 85:Beautiful building and interior with amazing libraries, furniture etc.Helpful staff, excellent location. Lovely town. It was suggested that wetreat it as our own home which was delightful and reassuring.
Review 86:Needs to better describe how to find the hotel. If visiting recommend get a map of location off computer. Signage in the town is also poor. The hotel actually lies inside the walled part of the town. If you can get there, then ask someone.
Review 87:Spectacular hotel in a 16th century palace. Wonderfully set out inside as well as having very good rooms.
Review 88:We were amazed at what we found; a fantastic 'boutique' hotelwith fabulous public areas and a library of magnificent books. We feltlike guests in a private palace with attentive staff rather thanholidaymakers in a hotel. Luxurious, welcoming, stunning. Our onlydisappointment was that we could only stay one night.
Review 89:Swimingpool closed.
Review 90:Beautiful garden
Review 91:Fantastic building. Garden filled with birdsong. Superb location.
Review 92:You could feel like a real palace, interesting decor, lots of albums and books
Review 93:Historic surroundings, small with beautiful furniture. Very friendly to customers (and 2 small dogs!)
Review 94:Shower facility needs update. Parking facilities is not good because of the narrow roads.
Review 95:Wonderful library Excellent pool and gardens
Review 96:It was a little expensive
Review 97:This is a beautiful old palace with a wonderful garden with a swimming pool. the hotel is also very central.
Review 98:The location; the ambiance of the hotel; the seclusion; and the historic nature of the town. It was an adventure.
Review 99:The hotel is like a museum itself; very unique atmosphere.
Review 100:no complaints
Review 101:friendly and helpful staff, great location
Review 102:Small and hard double bed. Probably best to book twin beds.
Review 103:Wonderful historic building. Full of character. Exceptional value for money.
Review 104:Nothing at all
Review 105:Everything was superb!
Review 106:Excellent position in old quarter near the castle. Charming, helpful host. Very good value for money
