Reviews for Hotel Gran Rey
Review 1:Rather surprised that we had to pay our bill for three nights at the beginning of our stay. seemed very unusual. Aren't their clients to be trusted?
Review 2:Breakfast was good, lots of choice , able to eat outside as well in pleasant surroundings. Rooftop pool good size and could enjoy swimming in last rays of sun.
Review 3:I specifically asked for a room with a view of the mountains and valley and a room as high up as possible and I got the complete opposite also the room we did get although it was facing the sea we couldn't really see the sea because of trees outside our balcony and also we were directly above the hotel entrance where there was a seat for guests to sit on which they did talking until 1am in the morning directly outside our bedroom balcony. Also I felt that we were given the room because another guest had complained about it, we were also given very poor quality beach towels compared with other guests I feel reading other reviews the problem was probably because we didn't book direct with the hotel
Review 4:The staff were lovely and friendly and mainly helpful
Review 5:... charm!. There is little that can be criticised which is part of the problem as it is anodyne (as are so many big hotels) and characterless
Review 6:location central and near bus stop. Everythig you could wish for in terms of facilities except....
Review 7:Smell from bathroom occasionally. Small fridge. A more comfortable settee would have been welcome.
Review 8:Large room and fact everything worked well. Good pool. Free wifi. Efficient reception staff.
Review 9:No British clients. Un-appetising evening meal - we tried it once but that was it! The local restaurants have much better offering.
Review 10:Good location on beachfront. Cleanliness of hotel. Decent breakfast offering in pleasant rooftop restaurant.
Review 11:Dinner was a bit plain, but for a reasonable price. The furniture in the room is a bit old and used.
Review 12:View from the windows, pool and breakfast terraces. Sunny rooms. Wi-fi was ok, though not very fast.
Review 13:Manager told us that the bad weather would not be a problem and we should drive to the airport at 8 am. He didn't check with the airline. He also told us that a flight had left earlier that morning, but we checked at the airport and there were no earlier flights. The drive was horrible and the flight was cancelled. Subsequently he raised the available room price to 514 Euros, for that night, which I assume was because of all the people stranded and in need of a room. We stayed elsewhere.
Review 14:There´s nothing not to like
Review 15:Two storey accomadation, the service is excellent, the bar and breakfast room is well situated at the top of the hotel with lovely views over the sea. A good buffet breakfast with plenty of choice is included.
Review 16:Simple, modest rooms but clean and well run, with a great location opposite a lovely little beach.
Review 17:Location
Review 18:Location, breakfast, main staff on reception
Review 19:- Had booked sea view room but put in a mountain view room for the first 2 days. - Quality of breakfast food. Big spread but of mostly very basic quality. - Beds quite spartan.
Review 20:Location Breakfast terrace with lovely views Watching the sunset from my balcony with sea view
Review 21:Nothing to complain about.
Review 22:We have stayed here several times and enjoyed every visit. The beds are comfortable and the breakfast has a great choice of freshly cooked food.
Review 23:Check-in and some of the other staff were not very friendly. We ate in the restaurant on the first evening and it was not good value - better to eat out in the many nice restaurants nearby. Car parking space can be limited at busy times.
Review 24:Nice location in an attractive location on the west of Gomera. There is a problem in that the rooms on the seaward and sunny side overlook a road whereas the quieter and more attractive rooms out back only get the sun for a short couple of hours in the morning. Breakfast was satisfactory and the rooftop location was nice if a bit windy.
Review 25:Nothing, we will be back - again!
Review 26:Great location, breakfast room with excellent views and a really splendid choice of breafast buffet. Lovely pool area again with lovely views, pleasant helpful staff. We had lunch a couple of times, as we had a rainy spell. It was good basic stuff, nicely prepared and reasonably priced, just what we wanted. We did not eat there in the evening as there is such a good choice of restaurants within easy walking distance that all had an atmosphere that suited our taste better.
Review 27:The bathroom needs updating. The bath is very small.
Review 28:The location, right on the sea front, is great. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. The beds are comfortable. The breakfast was good. The buffet evening meal was OK and, at 18 euros for 3 courses, not over expensive.
Review 29:i didnt like the smoking policy which allowed people to smoke where we were eating breakfast on the terrace and on their balconies. i had to close my balcony doors because the smell of tabacco was coming into our room,
Review 30:view from the sea view room was stunning -we could also hear the waves all night, all the hotel areas were comfortable,
Review 31:Thought it was a little expensive. Maybe if I had booked it a little earlier might have got a better deal
Review 32:Excellent location in Valle Gran Rey. A great base to explore the island for walking and indeed whale watching. Breakfast was excellent, a great choice. Fresh gluten free bread cooked especially each morning. Bar on the top floor was lovely and all the staff were courteous and helpful. Pool was ideally located on the top floor also.
Review 33:No wifi in bedrooms, even though advertised 'throughout hotel',the explanation for this made no sense. Water leak from underneath bathwas reported twice, not attended to, I mopped up daily, it got worse.
Review 34:Location was beautiful. Buffet dinner was very good. Very clean, staff helpful.
Review 35:Great location directly at the beach inbetween la playa and vueltas. Incredible views over the valley and the sea from the roof terrace and the breakfast area. Everything clean and neat. Very good value for money. Doubtless THE place to stay in Valle Gran Rey.
Review 36:This hotel is in a great location and could not be any closer to the sea. We stayed for 4 nights as part of a walking holiday. The hotel kindly left a bottle of cava in our room for my birthday as a suprise. we enkoyed breakfast on the roof with great views. There was an omlette chef making omlete pancakes etc on demand. We are already planning to return to this hotel.
Review 37:Superb location. Dining room, bar and pool area all with fantastic outlook over mountains and sea. Excellent breakfast buffet, friendly staff. Bright, clean, comfortable rooms with balconies.
Review 38:Overpriced. More expensive than the Parador, but much lower quality.
Review 39:Friendly staff, clean and comfortable hotel, good breakfast buffet.
Review 40:Stony beach
Review 41:Proximity to beach; welcome by staff; efficiency of hotel
Review 42:Excellent self-serve buffet with a large choice of well-cooked food. Lovely sea view in an idyllic, magical part of the world.
Review 43:No complaints at all.
Review 44:great location. room and facilities and buffet breakfast all very good.
Review 45:Terrible food. High prices.
Review 46:View from mountain side is breathtaking
Review 47:Lack of parking Ground floor dining room had no character or ambience. Mattress a little firm for my liking
Review 48:Breakfast Location
