Reviews for Best Western Grand Hotel de L'Univers

Review 1:The room on the first floor (NO 17) and on the street side was very noisy. People's voices and street cleaning equipment very early in the morning. No coffee provision in room for waking up without calling room service. No mini bar. Water in breakfast room for boiling eggs was cold. We turned the heater switch on but the water was still tepid 20 minutes later when we finished breakfast without the eggs. We will never stay in this property again and neither will our friends. We are Best Western regulars in Compiegne and we put our friends in your Chantilly property. I think Amiens is doing your reputation no good and either you should upgrade or get out fast. We are two most unsatisfied customers having spent one of the worst and most sleepless nights in our lives. We travel a lot and are not used to being so surprised and disappointed. Our whole trip was ruined because of this terrible property. Eric and Deanne Mutter. .

Review 2:Nothing special.

Review 3:Not all rooms had tea/coffee making facilities or fridges - would be helpful to know beforehand.

Review 4:Location fantastic for Christmas market, cathedral and other shopping.

Review 5:The bathroom was not level. (It was tilted). Also the wallpaper and the tiling in the bathroom was very poorly done. It resembled more of a 1 star hotel.

Review 6:Uneven floor in room and bed on slope sideways. Very difficult to sleep. Bed also had rubber or plastic under bottom sheet making it even more uncomfortable.

Review 7:Staff member on desk named Lauren was excellent. So helpful. Nothing too much trouble.

Review 8:Wifi hopeless though staff tried hard and were quite techie. Bathroom not up to standard , small, very cramped but scrupulously clean.

Review 9:The room we were offered once we'd complained about the room we were given. Breakfast was excellent.

Review 10:First night we were in a really tiny little room - standard double room (booked through booking.com) which needed a bit refurbishment (expecially the bathroom). Following night the staff kindly moved us to a "priviledge room" for a small difference (but -€30 of its usual price). Very big, spacious and on the front side of the hotel

Review 11:Great position, very central and walking distance to everything. Staff nice and kind!

Review 12:The breakfast at €12.50 was a bit expensive but nevertheless (for France) quite good. Parking at the station - a bit of a walk.

Review 13:Excellent location in the centre of Amiens. Comfortable rooms, well maintained hotel.

Review 14:No on-site parking (but contrary to other reviews, we were pleasantly surprised how easy it was to find on-street parking in neighboring streets -1€/hr from 9am-7pm).

Review 15:Great location (walking distance to the cathedral), very friendly night receptionist. Comfortable bed.

Review 16:Everything, there was something living in my plughole, green slime. The whole place was very, very tired and in need of refurbishment.

Review 17:Didnt like anything

Review 18:Hotel decoration is a little "tired". Noisy fan supplied is needed in high temperature weather.

Review 19:Friendly staff. Great location. Secure parking is a short distance away.

Review 20:Most of the hotel and staff was fine. The main negative was access with baggage and lack of parking, because the hotel is located in a pedestrian area. Neither was serious but next time I would find a hotel with parking.

Review 21:- Two separate beds rather than one double bed as booked

Review 22:- Very good location, close to the cathedral and the city centre - Very cozy, with a nice style

Review 23:No tea/coffee facilities in room? parking was a bit of a treck, particularly if one had cases to carry.

Review 24:The location was superb for wandering round town & visiting the Cathedral. The room was quite delightful & staff were very helpfu.l

Review 25:I have stayed here before and found all aspects to my liking, right down to the stationery on the writing desk. A very comfortable hotel with a real sense of class. So close to everything and the staff were very friendly and helpful. A great place to stay in Amiens.

Review 26:WiFi, didn't work for me (I heard other quest also complained about that). Room smelled smoked, however that was non-smoking room (#50). Water pressure in shower was really poor.

Review 27:The woman on reception really tried to help me with internet. She spoken also very good english.

Review 28:Very tiny room. I was notified from you that I had an upgrade. I have no idea what that was supposed to be as I didn't seem to get one nor did the receptionist know anything about it.

Review 29:Excellent position, very helpful staff

Review 30:Bathroom in one of our rooms very small, so needed to leave door open to dry self properly and dress.

Review 31:Location- 5mins from railway station and bus station walking slowly. in the centre of a long shopping street, supermarket and eateries of all kinds around it. Can walk to all town highlights easily. Staff very helpful, and English receptionist on duty for days around Anzac Day to ensure all guests could be given assistance easily. Very caring attitude.

Review 32:I asked for a family room for one adult and one twelve year old. We were given a very tiny room with a very tiny double bed. It was nowhere near suitable funny self and my daughter. When I went to complain about the room the receptionist clearly didn't believe that my daughter was 12 and got quite argumentative about my request to upgrade. Very disappointed with her attitude. The bathroom had a shower head placed on the wall about 10cm above the side of the bath. So great for a shower if you are 2ft high.

Review 33:The location was perfect for seeing the town. There was an English speaking member of staff who was very helpful and friendly.

Review 34:The breakfast is limited but a good standard.

Review 35:We were travelling with our 2 children and 2 of their friends. The hotel was very good to reallocate rooms to us so that we could all be on the same floor, next to each other.

Review 36:I loved my spacious room, the view of the street from my corner windows, and in particular a very firm comfortable bed, ideal for a sore back. The staff were very helpful and made a special effort to give me an early check in because I was so sore. An interesting building too, lots of stairs, but a very efficient lift.

Review 37:Unexpected step when leaving bathroom, Poor choice of local restaurants.

Review 38:The Bed was excellant, The Hotel is perfect for the rail and coach station, The Wifi was good and easy to set up

Review 39:Having a car full of luggage, we were disappointed not to have secure garage parking, although we were lucky enough to find a space in the street close by and the area seemed quite safe.

Review 40:The shower was large and the best, and cleanest hotel shower that I have ever used.

Review 41:We were disappointed with the breakfast. There was no good fresh French bread or decent-sized croissants. There was also no muesli. The jam was in nasty little pots. Finally the coffee was terrible!

Review 42:White bread for toast.

Review 43:Atmosphere, comfortable beds, all you need for a great stay in Amiens.Helpful & friendly staff. Ability to open windows for fresh air & fantastic view. Great breakfast.

Review 44:Staff very non plussed. I didn't feel particularly welcomed. Just a key in and out.

Review 45:Hotel is excellently placed for the city sights and restaurants. The hotel is very middle French and if you go to France a lot you'll know what I mean

Review 46:Lift didn't work on arrival, but I guess that could happen to any hotel. It was OK by the next morning. Wi-Fi was very slow

Review 47:Very helpful, knowledgeable staff. Ideal location, short walk to the restaurants. Quiet at night with the windows closed, I did think before arriving that it might be noisy as it's in the centre.

Review 48:The room and bathroom were very small and, although the weather was not too hot outside, the temperature in the rool was definitely too hot. There was no air conditioning so we had to sleep with the windows open. It was a Saturday and there were people passing by, talking loud and making noise until the morning! I almost got no sleep. Probably in winter, when the temperature is ok and people don't stay around in the night, it is better.

Review 49:Nice old building with beautiful staircase. Location very close to town center.

Review 50:very dark for female traveler (lights auto lit but goes off quickly while opening the room door)

Review 51:the bed and pillow

Review 52:Lack of parking. But we were lucky in finding a spot nearby.

Review 53:Really well-located for the Christmas markets.

Review 54:no fridge

Review 55:very central hotel, drop off space and parking near by in a public car park

Review 56:Location was excellent. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Good value for money.

Review 57:No garage if we brought the car

Review 58:Very convenient for everything

Review 59:Fantastic location

Review 60:The Hotel had French character

Review 61:location,friendly staff

Review 62:No parking arrangement

Review 63:Style of building

Review 64:Breakfast super

Review 65:Friendly hotel in excellent location. Highly recommend the 10PM son et lumiere at the Cathedral and the electric boat tour of the hortillonnages.

Review 66:Lack of parking and difficult to navigate to.

Review 67:friendly staff

Review 68:Room was narrow, couldn't even fully open bathroom door. Bed was sagging.

Review 69:Proximity to the centre

Review 70:The toilet and shower were very dated could do with a make over and the breakfast was catering for non englishguests

Review 71:The bed

Review 72:Perfect location a short stroll to the great beach.

Review 73:de wifi was very unreliable

Review 74:extra extension plug in the bedroom, great idea.

Review 76:no lift

Review 77:the location and helpfulness of staff

Review 78:the size of the room

Review 79:the location was perfect right in the center of amiens

Review 80:Smalle bedden. Upgrade van hotel wel nodig.

Review 81:Sfeer en locatie.

Review 82:Train station only a few minutes' walk.

Review 83:Toilet cubicle was very small.

Review 84:Proximity to the train station and the centre of town.

Review 85:The location is the best. It is near to the train station and is near to the shopping area as well. The Amiens Cathedral is also not very far away...

Review 86:Room and bathroom were basic.

Review 87:Easy check in, nice lady on reception. Unusual old building . Near station and shopping.

Review 88:Clean, quiet, comfortable. Ideal central location. Very friendly staff.

Review 89:tired bathroom

Review 90:bed staff location

Review 91:City centre location

Review 92:No car parking

Review 93:The lack of parking is a real problem in this city centre location.

Review 94:The hotel was good

Review 95:Bathroom very poor-the shower facility needed some attention

Review 96:Central location

Review 97:bathroom needed updating

Review 98:quiet, clean, friendly, excellent location

Review 99:Difficult to find and reach by car. Very old sanitary. Uncomfortable breakfast -seatings.

Review 100:Close to inner city.

Review 101:Fabulous location in a fantastic city!

Review 102:Poor breakfast with poor service. Room on top floor less than average.

Review 103:central location and a character building but not easy to find as in a pedestrianized area. Had to ask in local bar for directions and found it by chance and very fortunately - more by luck than judgement - found an on street parking place too.

Review 104:There were not Tea or Coffee making facilities in the room. The WiFi was poor reception. When making request for extra pillow to 2 different receptionist none was forthcoming so the spare blanket had to be folded and placed under original pillow to raise pillow height.

Review 105:The morning receptionist was extremely helpful and the stay was generally pleasent

Review 106:Good location and the staff were very helpful. The rooms were very good for the price and were very clean. Its an old style hotel but there is WiFi and TV etc We would use this hotel again.

Review 107:Very helpful, knowledgeable patron & staff. Wonderful location with good restaurants nearby. Within 3-4 minutes of the railway station. Excellent décor.

Review 108:We had some difficulty locating the hotel even with gps due to confusingstreet patterns.

Review 109:Elegant older hotel, but nicely updated. Room size was adequate.Bathroom was a little cramped. Location is excellent for visiting thecathedral and surrounding neighborhoods. A nice bakery, bar andrestaurant nearby. Pleasant breakfast room and a nice breakfast bar.

Review 110:The hotel is very overpriced for what it offers. We had a 'Privilege 'room which cost 85 euros a night and was very basic. The whole hotel needs an overhaul and decoration. I would not recommend this place.

Review 111:Room was very small - bathroom door opened against bed. WiFi signal was weak and erratic in room. To access Internet needed to be in foyer.

Review 112:Walking distance from station. Convenient location close tocathedraland pedestrian mall.

Review 113:The bed was to hard. If there was a topper added to the bed it would have been more comfortable

Review 114:The staff was really friendly and the location was excelent for the Antiek and Brocante Fair.

Review 115:The best days of this hotel are over, the room was a bit "tired".

Review 116:Hotel is located directly in the city center and very close from the cathedral. Breakfest was included in the total price. Pleasant and English speaking stuff.

Review 117:Room was cold. We looked at 4 rooms before we managed to have a shower room that was not on view to the public or a properly ventilated toilet. Far too cold for that time of year. No back up heating in rooms. Breakfast is VERY basic.

Review 118:Location.

Review 119:The room was tiny and the whole place was run down and tired. The place was terribly noisy - we were woken by other guests yelling and running around the halls at very early hours of the morning (about 2 - 3 am). The bathroom was substandard - impossible to use the shower without spraying water everywhere. Most uncomfortable!

Review 120:We did not enjoy our stay.

Review 121:Car parking is a major issue - there isnt any! the loading zone closest to the hotel was never available and parking was only available a hot and puff-inducing 3 blocks away, which was irritating and time consuming on arrival and departure.

Review 122:The excellent approach of the receptionist Noelle, who had an infectious smile and a willingness to help with any enquiries. The hotel is very centrally located to all of Amiens

Review 123:It seemed very basic for a 3 star hotel. No coffee making facilities inthe room, very few toileteries and I thought expensive for what it was.I have stayed there before and felt the same - but there are very fewhotels centrally. Maybe next time I will try a 2 star - cheaper but asuspect similar room

Review 124:The staff were very kind, location fab, very smart exterior.
