Reviews for Hotel Saint Jean

Review 1:Not much parking particularly at this time of year with a lot of people out for the xmas market.

Review 2:Easy to find and close to the centre of town with great views over the river.

Review 3:Slightly tatty but it didn;t really matter as everything was spotless.

Review 4:Sylvie the host is fabulous. Full of smiling personality and couldn't be more helpful. The hotel is very old and quaint with lots of character and spotlessly clean. Sylvie kindly filled out flask with fresh coffee for our journey before we left. Lovely location by the river and walking distance of good restaurant.

Review 5:Its not 5 star so don't expect too much. It is clean and the beds are comfortable.

Review 6:The staff are very helpful. even provided glasses and plates so we could have a drink in our room. Its has great French charm.

Review 7:The shower pressure was the worst that I have ever experienced. The water temperature was lukewarm at best. There were cracks on the wall and it seemed like the floor might give in.

Review 8:Distinctive and different. Hairdryer was effective. The male staff member was helpful, talkative and friendly. The location was nice: close to the river and one could walk easily to the central parts of the city.

Review 9:Although characterful & comfortable our room was a little old fashioned in terms of bed spread/sheets instead of duvets and wall paper

Review 10:Location, character, secure parking, friendliness

Review 11:Top floor rooms very hot and poor sound insulation Breakfast expensive and kids charged at full price

Review 12:Location, ambience, staff (friendly and helpful)

Review 13:Parking is in the roads around the place if you can find a space. Whole place is a bit tired. WI-FI just about useless.

Review 14:Location was good. Staff very friendly and helpful. Walkiing distance of good restruants and river.

Review 15:We were sorry that no-one knew of Nevers and the chapel which houses the body of St Bernadette, one of France's greatest saints. A little study of geography and history required !

Review 16:Warm welcome, and thanks for directing us to some good restaurants in the square; we had a lovely meal.

Review 17:On the ground floor, public pavement just outside windows, 20m away from a busy road, in 30 deg temperature with no cooling except open windows (with closed curtains for privacy

Review 18:Easy access to the garage, helpful staff, comrtable room

Review 19:Silvye was great and very helpful to recommend places to visit and eat in Chalon. The room was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel

Review 20:We arrived late and therefore probably had the worst room in the hotel which was very basic. Breakfast was ordinary to say the least.

Review 21:Central location within easy reach of good restaurants across the river. Private parking at rear of traditional family run hotel.

Review 22:The room's maintenance is not perfect, the neighbours have a view directly to the room if you don't close the heavy curtains.

Review 23:The location (excellent), the design of the hotel (not the room), the very kind and helpfull staff. The free parking.

Review 24:Super warm and friendly welcome from Sylvie when we arrived. An old fashioned French Hotel , that you hope to find, faded grandeur, comfortable and good value for money. Great central location overlooking the river. Excellent breakfast. Parked in front of the hotel overnight. Will go again.

Review 25:Anne was very welcoming and very good at her job.. the hotel is really lovely ... shabby chic but so french on the river banks... great location the market was fabulous and we would highly recommend it

Review 26:This is a typical European style family run type of hotel. Clean and comfortable. The people working there are friendly and helpful. Location is good being not far from the piers and train station. All other attractions are in walking distance.

Review 27:It took a few minutes to find a parking space close by, but did no cause a major problem

Review 28:Old fashioned charm and individuality of the room and the proximity to the centre of town, helpful and pleasant staff.

Review 29:Very basic rooms, but OK.

Review 30:Location, location, location. Both river cruise ship docks and great little French restaurants all in shot walking distance.

Review 31:Staff were extremely welcoming, our room was lovely, it's a characterful hotel with a slightly faded grandeur and knocks spots off cheap modern places in the same price range.

Review 32:Hotel has no lift so we had to take a room on the ground floor which has yet to be redone no a/c so had to leave windows open to outside noise on the ground floor

Review 33:Helpfulness of Sylvie the owner/operator Cozy lounge and breakfast room

Review 34:There were three flights of stairs to our room and the case was extremely heavy to carry up these stairs.

Review 35:This is a typical French accomodation. Nothing special but ideal for a one night stop over. In walking distance to the town with several restaurants and bars

Review 36:The pillows. It would be good to replace the old fashioned bolster with more comfortable pillows.

Review 37:A very lovely lady is the clerk in the evenings. I love France so I was happy with the stairs and the big, old room I had here. Access to the docked river cruise ship my clients were disembarking couldn't have been better. Breakfast was fine. There are good restaurants nearby.

Review 38:Right in the middle of Charlon-sur-soane so easy to get around and it was close to the train station, which is the way we arrived in town.

Review 39:Gail, the receptionist, and all the staff.

Review 40:La critique de booking

Review 41:It was idealy located for access to our river boat cruise.

Review 42:Lovely, warm welcome. Sylvie couldn't do enough for us! Clean, spacious rooms in a traditional French hotel. Recommended.

Review 43:Sylvie was amazing and so helpful! The location was great and very easy to get to.

Review 44:Lovely location overlooking the river and Sylvie was lovely and very helpful

Review 45:Traditional French 3 star hotel. Unpretentious and excellent secure parking.

Review 46:Top viewless room unbearably hot and very noisy from neighbours behind hotel...virtually no sleep

Review 47:Nice staff and good location by river in town centre

Review 48:The poor state of the room. But it was clean and quite.

Review 49:Verry hulpful and kind employers

Review 50:The room was a little shabby.

Review 51:A friendly welcome, great location and traditional French breakfast. Very good value for money.

Review 52:Very accurate and friendly people

Review 53:quiet

Review 54:location

Review 55:Breakfast wasn't great

Review 56:Friendly welcome

Review 57:Had to wait for a parking place to become available.

Review 58:Location perfect for tired drivers, just a short walk to a wide choice of restaurants.

Review 59:The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was a nice size and comfortable. Couldn't ask for more!

Review 60:Nothing - a very good 2 star hotel

Review 61:Staff, location, decor of hotel (very characterful)

Review 62:Character

Review 63:No elevator

Review 64:First floor room- no lugging bags up the stairs. All of the staff were wonderful hosts. Located close to city center

Review 65:The coffee

Review 66:I greatly enjoyed Sylvie

Review 67:No lift and 3 floors!

Review 68:View over river

Review 69:Very helpful front desk. Nice bedroom

Review 70:The shower was a bit difficult to use.

Review 71:The rooms are very spacious and full of character. Very helpful and friendly staff.

Review 72:Pleasant receptdonsit, stycích, french mood. Photographic museum.

Review 73:Liked everything about it.

Review 74:A great place to stay, very comfort Able

Review 75:No air conditioning

Review 76:Old world charm and friendliness

Review 77:Staff very helpful. Good breakfast, excellent location on Saone River.

Review 78:Sylvie was amazing. Very helpful, accommodating and just a very nice person. Perfect location for exploring Chalon. We had a room facing the river and it was fantastic. Rustic, older features but classic and comfortable.

Review 79:At E8 per head breakfast was too expensive for us.

Review 80:Being at the centre of a very attractive town and by the riverside. The lively town square is only five minutes walk away. Sylvie? the manager was very friendly and helpful

Review 81:as in many hotels, I couldn't attach the shower-head.

Review 82:A very friendly welcome by the lady of the house. Good advice on where to go in the neighbourhood.

Review 83:Nothing

Review 84:Third time I've stayed here, excellent location for old town, restaurants etc. Attractive and relaxing break from the thrash down the autoroute. Delightful owner, clean, comfortable room - no doubt I shall be staying here again.

Review 85:The interior was a bit dated, don't expect too much - its alright, but not a bargain for what it offers. 2* in France is not the Radison.

Review 86:Sylvie, the Lady who runs the place was very hospitable and friendly. The place is perfectly clean. Nice River view.

Review 87:There is nothing to dislike

Review 88:This is an absolutely lovely hotel, very comfortable, really nice, large rooms. It is in a lovely location overlooking the river Saone. I would have no hesitation in staying there again, we loved it.

Review 89:Noise! The front of the hotel has the view of the river, but in between is the main through road. Staff welcoming but not keen to move us to quieter room. The alternative room we were shown at the back of the hotel was very unappealing, so stayed put.

Review 90:View from the window across river, ancient building, secure parking. Short stroll to the central square and old part of town.

Review 91:Worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Threadbare carpets. Flaking paintwork & plaster. Throw back to the 1940s. Bad value breakfast did not think they existed like this anymore.

Review 92:In the heat of summer you need windows open, so if you have a room at the front you will not sleep because of traffic noise and late night revellers. Bidet out of use. No hair drier. A potentially lovely old building in need of T.L.C.

Review 93:Excellent location for overnight stop, easy walking distance to restaurants and old town. Very French feel, but faded elegance would be a kind exaggeration.

Review 94:Breakfast was not good value and the waitress was not veryhelpful/welcoming

Review 95:The atmosphere of the hotel and decor were very realistic and hadmanaged to keep the feel of a hotel from the past. Reception staffwere friendly and helpful. Very convenient location for the main partof Chalon.

Review 96:The breakfast was a little disappointing, not what I had expected from the surroundings.

Review 97:The owner couldn't have been more helpful, gave us a map for restaurants and directions to a particular shop I wanted to go to.the location of the hotel is lovely with views of the Rhone and easy to access by car and with a good parking garage. Our bedroom was beautiful with a huge marble fireplace the whole hotel has a remarkable faded glamour, I would definately stay here again.

Review 98:There was no elevator in the building and our rooms were located on the top (3rd) floor).

Review 99:Ms. Sylvie is the gem of the hotel. We arrived half an hour later than the hotel's closing time and she overstayed to help us check in and gave us as much assistance as possible.

Review 100:Would be good to have beverage ingredients in room although aware this is not frquent in french small hotels

Review 101:Very pleasant staff, old style attractive building at a reasonable cost & central to city.

Review 102:On arrival we were told that the garage we had previously booked was not available so had to use a public paying carpark away from the hotel. We would not have booked the hotel if this was the case.

Review 103:Location. Clean but needing a great deal of repair and renovation. Very pleasant receptionist.

Review 104:There are no elevators in the hotel so carrying luggage up the stairs was a bit of a challenge.

Review 105:Sophie and her staff were very friendly and helpful. We had many wonderful restaurants recommended to us. It was an easy walk to the town centre. The view of the river was great with the cruise ships docking right outside the hotel.

Review 106:Our host, Sylvie, was delightful and very welcoming. Although the hotel was a bit tired, it was quite comfortable and the continental breakfast provided a tasty start to our day. Although we stayed only one night, the hotel's location was within easy walking distance to the old part of Chalons s/s and anyone staying for longer periods will appreciate that.

Review 107:Tired decor. Breakfast could be better.

Review 108:Very friendly and helpful staff. Good location near river. Interesting french architecture/decor of the hotel.

Review 109:Maybe not for those who want modern up to date facilities and dontappreciate a bit of querkiness

Review 110:We were warmly welcomed by Sophie who was most helpful. The hotel isfull of character and in a good central position with restaurants andshops close by. Like all old buildings it has tired and worn parts butit was clean and had a very "french feel". We had a excellentmeal at La Bistrot close by as Sophie recommended

Review 111:For me was little bit noisy (our windows looked to the road), but for my husband and daughter it wasn't problem at all

Review 112:The hotel manager was very nice and helpful though we arrived very late. The room is rather big, the building inside is very stylish (old but lovely). A lot of space for parking outside.

Review 113:We stopped here on our way to the alps for skiing. It was a great hotel, very friendly and helpful staff. Much nicer start to a ski holidayseeing a new part of france with a lovely town and really welcomingfrench hotel. Great to be able to have secure parking with all our skistuff too. Fab breakfast meant no need to stop for food between thereand Val Thorens.

Review 114:Breakfast coffee far too weak. Not offered milk or orange juice but available on request. Sheets rather rough.

Review 115:Lovely old building in fantastic location. Great welcome and excellent value for money. Nice and warm and cosy.

Review 116:This is a classic and traditional french hotel. The rooms areperfect... Larger than modern hotels, perfectly clean and above allcharming and comfortable. I really appreciated staying there and willunhesitatingly return.

Review 117:The hotel is clean and tidy but the rooms are very tired and could do with renovation. Despite this we would still stay here again.

Review 118:We have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions. It is in a great location just over the road from the river Saone. A good selection of bars and restaurants are within easy walking distance.

Review 119:we found we used the WIFI at a lot of hotels while in Europe but we stayed only for one night and we were told we had WIFI on our boat so really was not a big issue.

Review 120:Lovey room had a good bath tub Breakfast room sunny has a warm friendly staff was a perfect location to pick up our cruise boat the next morning. Good Value for money

Review 121:The hotel was a beautiful old building. The owner was very helpful and seemed very happy to have families staying there. The room was spotlessly clean. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance.

Review 122:The road can be a bit loud.

Review 123:The staff was extremely friendly. The hotel is very clean. Very good value for the money. Good location in Chalon sur Saone.
