Reviews for Kakslauttanen Igloo West Village

Review 1:Shower area. It is too open

Review 2:We like the warm & comfortable bed in d small glass igloo. We felt so excited when 1st time saw northern light fm the igloo. We can lie on bed to view stars & northern light

Review 3:The staff while very polite and attentive were missguiding and contradicting to say the least. The place was very exspensive with the nearest shop costing €60 in a taxi and the meals were a set menu with food not to my taste and was a lot more money to change. They also tried to accuse me of not paying for an excursion because of a system fault and took an unauthorised debit card payment from my account which I'm still trying to get back a month later. My igluu was covered in snow for 2 of my three nights and I couldn't see a thing and despite complaining nothing was done and no refund was given. Photo attached

Review 4:the concept of the glass igluu that was very short lived.

Review 5:Inside the room , none of the facilities . No wifi no tv nowhere can boil water . The sauna was too far away . No one took the luggage to your room . The resort have their one and only restaurant , and you got no other choices even you brought your own noodles .

Review 6:The view was wonderful ! The glass room were beautiful . The whole resort was very quite and people could really have a rest while staying in the resort . Staying in a glass room was a special experience for me .

Review 7:Very bad quality/price relationship. Common showers was dirty and disorganized.

Review 8:Igloo experience was something different. Nice design. Nothing similar around.

Review 9:was quite expensive for what you get but still worth doing .

Review 10:the igloo was amazing and so unusual . one to tick off the bucket list for sure . great location with plenty of stuff to do

Review 11:We made a booking for the West Igloo Village, and got a confirmation as well, but were instead allocated to the East Village, which we only found out after getting there. They were kind enough to provide a shuttle, but after a 5 hour bus ride, every extra minute to check in was a pain. The reception at the East was a small desk in the middle of the restaurant, with no waiting area, and staff which was busy selling additional activities rather than nicely checking people in. The way from the reception to the igloos is not that well marked or well lit, even though they claim it is. Nobody bothered shoveling the way after snow, so getting to the igloos with any kind of luggage was a workout on its own.

Review 12:The glass igloo was a unique experience. It keeps you warm even while snowing. The dinner was delicious and the server nice & chatty. Breakfast was till later than what Finnish hotels usually serve, even though it was mostly cold cuts & cereal.

Review 13:No indicate signs of direction. I drove along E75 and easy to find East village. After staff gave the map, I could find the entrance of West village. But it is not easy to find the way to reception because no sign board to indicate the way.

Review 14:The resort like as Theme park.

Review 15:They could do better service-wise for the price they are charging. Nobody told us we could use the sleds to transport our luggage to the glass igloos, nobody shared about the activities that was available. No option for food - everybody had to take a mandatory 3 course meal which was unimaginative and I could get the same back home.

Review 16:Unique product and rooms.

Review 17:breakfast and dinner are not tasty. glass igloo is either too cold or too hot, we switch to another igloo in midnight 1 am.

Review 18:unique glass igloo easy to reach if u take bus staff are very friendly and helpful nice sauna

Review 19:The only annoying thing was having to go to a different building for a shower and toilet - unless you are a very open couple.

Review 20:The igloo was so comfortable, literally just sink into the bed. There is heating and a small bathroom area within th igloo. Great experience I would definitely recommend it!

Review 21:I stay at Igloo unit, its small and not comfort. All glasses cover with snow, NOTHING MUCH to see EXCEPT snow and they should advise the period for those who visit for Aurora trip.

Review 22:The dinner was very lovely however we were not aware it was mandatory to pay an extra €38 for it. It's only because we are young travelers and were on a tight budget.

Review 23:The staff were very kind. We turned up by bus to the east village when we were staying in the west village, a 6km walk. With huge backpacks on the what seemed to be manager offered to take us there by car. In the car we talked about how we had a 5am bus to catch in the morning, he then told us the nearest bus stop is the one we got dropped at so would be easier for us to stay in the east village so he arranged a room swap and drove us to our room. The reception staff were also very kind and helpful and made up a breakfast box for us as we were leaving too early to eat there. The igloo itself was as amazing as we thought with very comfy beds!

Review 24:Have to walk across snowy path for 5 mins to the shared bathroom. However, no one uses the shower room, that makes it's like a private one.

Review 25:We had a wonderful time in a glass igloo. The bed are so soft and the breakfast is good.

Review 26:The staff in the East Village tried hard to refuse to take you to the West Village which is tuck away in a hidden area without any signpost! Tons of 600 years old trees had been cut off to decorate the hotel restaurant. Very environment unfriendly.

Review 27:Excellent to see the Northern Light at -27 ºC in a warm indoor. Free use of sled to transport your luggage. No trees around the igloos unlike that in the East Village.

Review 28:The wifi was out in the dining hall. Not a lot of signs directing you where to go to check in. Also would have been nice to have a note on the website (if there was I didn't see it) stating that GPS won't bring you to the hotel you need a map. But it was super easy to find with the map.

Review 29:If you want to sleep in a glass igloo and see the snow and stars...its the perfect place. Rent a car and go touring! The staff went above and beyond leaving me my key, a map and a dinner box because I arrived after reception closed.

Review 30:our experience, while expensive, would have been greatly improved by the staff attitude. They were for the most part unhelpful and unfriendly. One or two of the staff really went out of their way to help.

Review 31:Beautiful location.

Review 32:Breakfast not included which would have been a nice touch as early arrival at resort. Maine road wasn't too far off in the distance.

Review 33:Attention to detail was excellent from the lighting, food&comfort of beds which were adjustable. Amazing experience being able to see the stars&Northern lights within the Igloo.

Review 34:The shower and sauna in different location than the igloo. 8-10 minutes walk in the snow The snowy paths were not cleaned properly Not a good value-for-money balance. Way too expensive for what it had to offer

Review 35:The glass igloo The view The remote location

Review 36:Price is definitely not adequate. This is not a 4-star accomodation. There is no any luxury there. Bathroom is located 300 metres from the Igloo - not very practical especally in the morning. Breakfast is also quite modest.

Review 37:Nice and interesting place

Review 38:But, the facilities in glass igloo is limited. No hanger for cloth / towel in shower room.

Review 39:They provide transfer from east village to west village for check in. Easy access by bus from rovaniemi to hotel. It is very good view to see star n northern light when the sky is clear. The restaurant is around 10 mins walk from glass igloo in west village.

Review 40:See above

Review 41:A lot of money to spend to have no chance of seeing the aurora due to cloud and snow, the igloo was cosy and unique but not worth the money. Very tourist oriented we thought we would see all the facilities not realising there were two villages and we did Not seem to have a choice which one we ended up at. The evening meal was good value though, the reception area was very crowded and poky. I would only stay here in a glass igloo if there was a high chance of aurora spotting but sadly you don't know this due to weather changing. It was an experience but not sure worth the money

Review 42:The main selling point is the glass roof of igloo and viewing of the sky without staying in outdoor. But during our whole stay it was snowing and no sky was seen. Without any sky view the room was poorly equipped. There was only a toilet and a bed. No mirror nor shower inside the room.

Review 43:I've visited the hotel for 2 nights with 2 rooms. The hotel's booking system cannot sync up with Booking.com system, so my booking changes are constantly mixed up. I've spent more than 2 hour in total at front desk, waiting in a long line and explaining what my correct bookings are. After the trip, I spent a lot of time and money calling international calls simply to deal with the wrong booking, which cost me Euro 1190. Be careful if you'd like to choose the hotel, they will NOT contact you to check your booking detail even if it looks obviously wrong. Prepare yourself paying a lot, but not treated evenly. BTW, hotel meals sucks and no other options cause you get stuck in the middle of no where. The hotel was my reason to visit Finland, but it became my nightmare. By Senior Booking member.

Review 45:Took the wrong amount for the bill, 470eu more but finally refunded

Review 46:20mins from Saariselka, east cabins and west igloos are seperated and take 10 mins driving far. Glass Igloos are cool, but be careful of slip

Review 47:There's no shower in the igloos so staying there longer than a night seems not that comfortable. Also, it was quite easy to see inside of the igloos so have in mind that you have less privacy than you've probably used to. Price was also quite high.

Review 48:We stayed a week in Kakslauttanen from which only last night in the glass igloo. It seemed that many travellers did exactly the same. It's quite interesting to have a sky over you everywhere. Although the night we stayed there was cloudy, it was still something i've not yet experienced. It was warm inside of the igloos themselves and bed's headrest and footrest height was configurable. I'd guess that it would have been even more awesome when we would have seen Northern Lights that night, but what can you do about weather...

Review 49:They charge everything. Even a cup of coffee or tea will be charged. Considering the price paid, I wouldn't mind paying extra to have everything included (like the 15 euro lunch that is essentially bread and soup. Amazing soup, but...)

Review 50:The venue is amazing - and if you are going in the winter, just as we did, you will marvel at the scenery. And enjoy the saunas, it is really great!

Review 51:There is no WIFI coverage in Glass Igloo.

Review 52:Glass Igloo is in perfect location. Though not 5-star hotel amenities, we enjoyed view of northern light from inside of glass igloo. There are plenty of activities to do too, such as snow mobile, dog sledging..

Review 53:Dont use their shuttle bus at 25 euros catch the local bus for 12 euros. Starts and stops in same place. If you go into Saariselka, which you should do, catch local bus at 3.9 euros instead of their 10 euro fare. They need to clear top of igloos of snow, it spoilt our view.

Review 54:This place is just wonderful. We stayed in a glass igloo for one night. Absolutely fantastic. Highly recommended. You really are out in the wilderness. Food is great as is the accommodation.

Review 55:Expect an expensive visit. As long as you are prepared to spend money during your stay (which we were), it's fine. The communal showers (for those staying in the glass igloo) have a window (which someone covered with a towel for modesty). Not a negative point, but something people may appreciate knowing in advance.

Review 56:The glass igloo was amazing. It was always at a nice temperature and the beds were very comfortable. It is a shame that there is no shower inside it or wifi, but it is still one of the best weekends we've had. Waking up to see the surroundings from the comfort and warmth of our bed is priceless!

Review 57:Igloo too cramped for 2 persons. Showering facilities way too far away, not nice if it is -30 degrees outside

Review 58:The uniqueness of glass igloo in almost open space. The idea of watching aurora while lying in a reclining bed

Review 59:No hairdryer and kettle in the igloo. Room temperature 21C was rather cold. There was only soup for the lunch, no main course. The dinner was pre-set, no choice. The prices for everything are too high.

Review 60:The glass igloo concept allowing to see the stars on the sky from your room/bed (though, you should be lucky to see the Northern Lights). Big territory, beautiful landscapes.Quite place to relax. The staff is very friendly.

Review 61:Need internal transfer to and from the East Village. Igloo interior space very cramped, especially inside bathroom. No free wifi inside igloo.

Review 62:Unobstructed sky view inside igloo. Peaceful.

Review 63:High price and no private bath.

Review 64:Unique in style & location, especially when covered with snow. Value for money highly depends on the weather while you stay there.

Review 65:There Was no Sign To West Village, So We drove To east Village First and Got instructions. For dinner only a set menu So We drove To Saariselkä. Beautiful moonlight With magnificent halo Around it!

Review 66:Cost of stay is considered very expensive given the lack wifi, electric kettle and even a tv in the glass igloo. Very limited dining options

Review 67:Cool concept Friendly staff Activities

Review 68:Hard to find the rooms, bathrooms and way to reception. Because there is nothing except this hotel, everything is expensive. (especially dinner)

Review 69:Amazing snow scenery and idea of Glass Igloo

Review 70:We paid 784euro for one bigger ingloo with 4 pax, when we arrived, the hotel informed us that the bigger one could not work due to no power, they gave us 2 small ingloo+1wooden house instead. Do we have any other options when standing in their lobby? I just wonder why they did not notify us in advance? Is sending email difficult nowdays? Do not expect any service.

Review 71:breakfast is good.

Review 72:No Wi-Fi in the room ,no sign board to our igloo especially during winter it was dark even 3pm in the evening. Only 1 set dinner every day which costs 33 euro per pax

Review 73:Their staff are friendly and helpful, the design of the igloo Which I can have a starry night

Review 74:The glass igloos not worth that price. lnside area are small and facilities are very simple. Some of them no shower. Wifi is not available. Room service is not provided. Meal and other activities are charged at extremely high because there's no choice around. The environment is not good enough to view the aurura. It's required to join hunting groups anyway. It'd better to save the rental to join other activities. Btw, the staff are quite friendly.

Review 75:-No help from staff with taking luggage from reception to igloo, having to walk 5/10 through snow, only provided with a small wooden sled. -staff weren't very helpful in general. -for the amount of money we paid for the night, nothing but breakfast was included, no even a small self made tea. - Can only do one tour a day and they cost a lot of money

Review 76:-The igloo was exactly like pictures

Review 77:This place is a rip-off. I will definitely not recommend this placeto anyone.I was told by a local guide that the area is mostly cloudy and chances of aurora sighting is very slim. No chance of aurora at the glass igloo but we did see the northern lights on the very same night that we went aurora hunting with the reindeers at 100euros only (not with the hotelier's agent) Love Finland but this place is too money-minded, its a major turn-off.

Review 78:Stayed 2 nights in the log cabin and 1 night in the glass igloo. It's a star attraction of Finland, I love the photos of the glassigloos posted online with the northern lights.

Review 79:No included costs. Where else would we eat? The lunch/dinner meals were overpriced and charging 25 euro/person one way from the airport is outrageous.

Review 80:Great outdoor activities, xcountry skiing and dog sledding were awesome.

Review 81:For the price you pay the staff was not very helpful and most of the staff was unable to answer even basic questions. Signage was terrible so it was hard to find anything. The restaurant only had 3 options for dinner.

Review 82:Sleeping in the glass igloo was amazing.

Review 83:2:50 euros for bad coffee no room in the igloos told 2 stories first was where the taxi took us which gave us times of pick ups etc then another version at the place we were finally dropped off. We were told we had to eat at 6 with set menu food was salty almost inedible the restaurant had no atmosphere not a great experience

Review 84:Comfortable beds

Review 85:Shower is at outside of the Igloo (about 5 mins walk in the cold weather), to be shared for 4 person without partition and there is open glass window without curtain to close during showering (no privacy). No free shuttle bus between airport-hotel.

Review 86:Nice design of glass ceiling, enjoying the night and morning sky view. Nice surrounding view. Bed is very comfortable.

Review 87:a bit too expensive.

Review 88:we really enjoy the atmosphere ...walking around surrounded by trees lamps cottages... also the igloo was very comfortable and warm. the staff is very kind and helpful.. I would definitely go there again.

Review 89:Signs were not illuminated, which made it difficult to find the igloos at one point, what with them being at the far back.

Review 90:The igloo was cool, great idea, warm. It was aesthetically pleasing, but nothing else really grabbed us.

Review 91:The service was not up to the mark. The front desk asked me to wait til 2pm to process my check- in. That time was 1:45pm. No hot water and wifi in the room. We have to walk about 5 minutes to get the hot water from the front desk. No signage in this village. We were lost in the village when the weather was almost -16.

Review 92:The breakfast was good.

Review 93:No shower facility inside igloo. Toilet should be better "sealed" to provide more privacy. Luggage room is two floors down the reception and as there is no lift we needed to drag our heavy luggages down n up. Food should be better at that price.

Review 94:I could see northern light warm and cozy in the glass igloo! (but you wont content staying inside all the time, haha)

Review 95:Bridge across to glass igloos is not appropriate for anyone with mobility issues. Take as little luggage with you as possible!

Review 96:Seeing the northern lights! Bed was amazing in glass igloo! Gravlax at breakfast.

Review 97:That said! I wish that it was more private-- further from the road, not that they can do anything about that now, and really its fine. It wasn't their fault that it was cloudy the entire time. I wish that they had handled inbetween season activities better, they sort of brushed me off-- and a lot of activities were for two or more people and that was never made known to me until after I got there and after I expressed interest. In fact, they said it was too complicated to call to see if I could do a midnight aurora borealis ride because there's so little interest and they didn't even want to try, which really bothered me. Breakfast seemed kind of cheap, little tiny cups of coffee were expensive. Despite all the little weird things, I really had a good time and it was a really nice place, just very expensive, I feel, for a 'resort' and what you get!

Review 98:I liked more than I disliked about my trip. The igloo I stayed in was warm, the sauna was cozy. The free breakfast was free (if a little weird and seemingly kind of cheap, but what do I know). I liked the decorations, I liked the environment, and I liked meeting a reindeer.

Review 99:Glass igloo was nice, but price was too high compare with what supplied in the room

Review 100:Good location, close to national park and husky farms Friendly and helpful staff Taste meals with reasonable price Fun activities Restaurant with clean and comfortable environment Nice Sauna room Easy Parking

Review 101:The staff are primarily Asians who do not know much about the area anddo not speak fluent English. Signage around the area is inadequatemaking it difficult to find ones way around. All of the excursions areoutsourced and while enjoyable are very expensive. The hotel itself isway overpriced. Two nights cost over 1000 Euros.

Review 102:Location is gorgeous. There are miles of trails which would have beengreat for cross-country skiing if there was more snow. Meals were fine. The glass igloos are spacious and comfortable

Review 103:Majority of all activities/ near by shops etc were closed. Including half the tourist buildings etc weren't even built yet!!! Nearest "town" was a short bus ride away however bus only ran twice a day and there was only one small food shop open there everything else was closed. Hotel charged me twice for the accommodation but didnt realise until I got back to England. log cabin only has two small hobs (no oven or grill or microwave) and one saucepan so proved difficult to cook dinners in the evening. Restaurant does one "3 course meal" in the evening which is similar to a school dinner and there are no alternatives. Staff are nice when they are not arguing with each other in front of you (professional, not). Would not recommend to sept/ October not would I return.

Review 104:Paying $500 a night you would expect the transfer from the airport to hotel free.. We got to the hotel and the lady told us it was 25 euro each. Then was told we had to walk to our igloo with all our luggage that was across the river it was another 9euro for luggage transfer. Breakfast could have been better.

Review 105:Nothing can compare to being in a glass igloo it was spectacular. The bed was absolutely heavenly. The staff were extremely friendly and nice

Review 106:2 single beds (most romantic hotel and they are fitted with single beds...), staff were not very attentive or helpful, understandable but there is no shower in the igloos, great experience but overpriced

Review 107:Location, unique hotel, northern lights

Review 108:The staff do not take the initiative to help their guests. Service level is mediocre, at best. Place is also isolated so be prepared to have to take the bus into town areas which isn't very often.

Review 109:The concept of a glass igloo is very interesting. Was also offered a log cabin to use in addition to the igloo due to low season, which is much appreciated.

Review 110:We stayed in igloo - it was lovely place, sleeping and seeing all those stars in the sky was unforgettable. I highly recommend to all!

Review 111:Food is bad with limited choices They only have overhaul to rent no other cloth like skiing jackets and pants

Review 112:Plenty of activities

Review 113:The pressure

Review 114:The lake

Review 115:Very special experience living in the glass igloo for three night! Definitely go try the husky safari! Love the place sooo much!

Review 116:I would be better if the 24 hr provide lights

Review 117:Friendly reception with transfer from east to west resort

Review 118:Everything is closed after 10, but that's not really a problem if you know that :)

Review 119:Amazing place

Review 120:too early to check out; no wifi at room

Review 121:romantic room

Review 122:Can not find the hotel via gps no wifi in the room

Review 123:the Igloo is beautiful but it is easy to cover by snow, we need to brush the snow ourselves at night.

Review 124:the salmons are fresh, thick, delicious.

Review 125:Cleanliness of glass in Igloo glass house.

Review 126:Nice location

Review 127:Transfer between east and west village is not convenient at all. Service is just so so.

Review 128:Glass igloo, exceptional! Especially when sky is clear

Review 129:The price is too expensive when u need to walk 5 mins to hv shower under such a cold weather.

Review 130:Glass igloo is an nice idea.

Review 131:No wifi in the room. No place to hang your clothes in e shower.

Review 132:No wifi in the igloo. A bit cold.

Review 133:Very beautiful. Good food.

Review 134:No wifi in igloo

Review 135:Seeing the aurora borealis from our bed was a once in a life-time experience!

Review 136:Staff, food, the bare facilities.

Review 137:The novelty of staying in a glass igloo.
