Reviews for Château Fleur de Roques
Review 1:difficult to find. perhaps as one road was closed? Clear directions and which exit to use from AutoRoute, on booking form, would be useful; and It would be better to have parking near hotel if possible.
Review 2:beautiful setting and interesting building. Good local food.
Review 3:Fairly basic accommodation, no tea and coffee facilities, bath but no shower, very tiny window so no real view and the room felt a bit claustrophobic.
Review 4:Quiet surroundings, friendly staff, nice and variable breakfast choices.
Review 5:No access to the beautiful garden. No tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Sad to see plastic/aluminium window frames and doors which spoil the look of the building.
Review 6:Lovely and quiet. Excellent evening meal.
Review 7:Could do with a bar - but not that essential
Review 8:Great location and good atmosphere, friendly staff. This place really surprised us, you can be really let down when choosing from the internet, not this time. We will definitely stay here again.
Review 9:Not much, garden area could have been tidier but was cut the morning we left.
Review 10:Lovely location (quiet), building and pool. Very helpful staff, relaxing evening spent on the terrace.
Review 11:Pretty basic room (shown on website as comfort). The pictures on website 4 posters- are of higher quality rooms not available on the website when we booked). ask for additional pillows, no air conditioning or a fan (we stayed in August and this is really a necessity).
Review 12:Lovely corner bath, good quality food, nice staff, very good setting.
Review 13:Our bed sloped in the middle and the couple we were travelling with had a very uncomfortable bed- sloped very badly to the middle; held together underneath by pieces of wood and a metal bar
Review 14:The building and location
Review 15:Good balance of surrounding vineyards and the facilities within the Chateau itself. The availability of free bicycles and a billiards room was a welcome feature for our teenagers. Quiet seclusion yet nearby major site seeing.
Review 16:Staff unfriendly, breakfast was terrible - cheap and nasty in a great chateau
Review 17:Most beautiful budget hotel I have stayed in - but it's seriously budget
Review 18:Beds were a bit on the firm side. The rooms have tons of potential, but some of the decor decisions were a bit unusual.
Review 19:Apart from our appreciation of the kind and accommodating people who run this simple but clean chateau, we couldn't get over the multi-million Euro view of the vineyards and rolling hills from the huge windows in our room. What a way to wake up in the morning. The breakfast included was excellent and served in a very nice setting.
Review 20:Shower head was not well pressured, I'm 198cm tall and am too tall for the shower. You should close the gate so people park outside at the designated parking place. That way you can enjoy your wine without the smell of diesel fuel.
Review 21:Ambiente!
Review 22:A waitress in a major wine growing area who had no idea how to open a bottle of wine and a badly mangled steak for dinner. Shouldn't happen anywhere in France let alone adjacent to St.Emilion
Review 23:Wonderful view from the rooms and fabulous company all night from a sweet family of mice who were scurrying busily around the bedroom floor.
Review 24:The hotel is only minutes from Saint Emilion, and yet without all of the hustle and bustle and difficulty of parking. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and the outdoor patio is a lovely place to have a glass of wine after a busy day.
Review 25:slightly far from the main town
Review 26:Lovely château, very quaint and large family room. Decent breakfast for the price. Very quiet and picturesque. About 14 minutes drive from the historic town of Saint Émilion, but worth it to get out of the city for a bit and have an affordable experience in a château.
Review 27:Breakfast not really what you'd expect for a chateau that nice (not worth the 10 euros)
Review 28:Amazing chateau, lovely surroundings, extremely nice staff. Well priced for a spacious room, good bathroom and bed.
Review 29:the restaurant that was advertised was closed. Worse, so was the restaurant the proprietor said he had booked for us. We ended up stranded in a remote village at night. A pretty poor experience.
Review 30:I am not sure what our superior double room was superior to but it makes me wonder what the lesser rooms were like. You could hold a dance in the room but that was the only good point (if you wanted to dance, that is). Property is very run down. The front door and windows cannot have had a coat of paint in many years. Parts of the property are obviously derelict. Bed was as hard as a board. We could not open any windows in the room or bathroom. Knuckles now grazed from trying to shut bathroom door. Dangerous steps down to pool area.
Review 31:The food and wine.
Review 32:facilities feel a bit "budget" in places but given the price it's still great value
Review 33:delicious dinner spacious rooms bike rental to cycle in the vineyards amazing location
Review 34:No elevator, so you have to carry luggage up stairs
Review 35:Spacious, comfortable, well-appointed room Delicious dinner with wonderful wine Location surrounded by vineyards, lovely grounds not far from Saint Emilion Friendly, helpful staff
Review 36:No airconditioning Staff doesn't speak any English Left to our own devices at breakfast Hostellerie needs a point of contact/host
Review 37:Nice large rooms Swimming pool Lovely diner
Review 38:Cleaning a little sub-standard. Poor wifi.
Review 39:Charm and ambience of the old chateau. Quality of food.
Review 40:A little bare bones, not the kind of soft feel I want for a holiday. Wifi was spotty
Review 41:Beautiful bones
Review 42:Facilities were basic, particularly bathroom facilities.
Review 43:Beautiful setting, good location, good dinner and breakfast
Review 44:Nothing
Review 45:Lovely room in a chateau set amongst vineyards. Four poster bed!
Review 46:Fantastic old chateau, with own wine production , worth a visit.
Review 47:Beautiful, elegant, quiet. Great views, perfect courtyard, fantastic hospitality and history.
Review 48:Location, service, amenities, food, wine
Review 49:Wasn't that comfortable or clean.
Review 50:Loved the rural location. Great restaurant attached.
Review 51:I would expect a better taste in renovating the chateau.
Review 52:Beautiful sunset while being surrounded by greenery of the vineyards.
Review 53:Excellent restaurant. Friendly staff
Review 54:The shower
Review 55:The wine country. The fact that we were staying in a chateau
Review 56:Great Chateau experience and a very good restaurant.
Review 57:The staff Building The wine!
Review 58:A little disappointing to find that the wine did not come from the vineyard it over looked.
Review 59:quiet picturesque location surrounded by vineyards
Review 60:wifi quality
Review 61:locality close to vineyards, clean and comfortable room, swimming pool, cuisine, rich breakfast, nice staff
Review 62:Everything
Review 63:Facility, food and staff were wonderful
Review 64:We had four of us in room 22 which was fine except the rollaway bed was very bumpy.
Review 65:This location was a peaceful break for us in the middle of a two week tour. It is in the countryside surrounded by vineyards. We also had a very nice meal at the restaurant our first evening. You definitely need a car for this location. Easy drive to Saint Emilion.
Review 66:Although the food was very good, if your stay is more than 2 nights the choice is limited. Only 6 mains, 6 starters and 6 desserts. No Vegetarian option for the evening meal. This is the only restaurant within walking distance. You will need to drive to eat elsewhere.
Review 67:Excellent views of vineyards. Plenty of free parking. Fantastic bread for breakfast as well as several other choices.
Review 68:I would have like to have met the owners to give us some history about the chateau. Also it would have been nice to have a sitting/lounge area to have a pre dinner drink and coffee after the meal instead of retiring to the bedroom. Instructions as to the location would have been useful especially arriving after dark.
Review 69:A beautifully restored chateau.
Review 70:Outside needed a bit of care.
Review 71:Getting to stay in a Chateau was wonderful. Great for the kids to run and play. Its a shame you cannot walk around the whole Chateau.
Review 72:Having no reception area to sit and enjoy a drink before dinner was disappointing. The car park was quite rough and ready. When it rained,it became unpleasant to walk on.
Review 73:The most outstanding aspect of our stay was the helpfulness of the reception staff. We enjoyed the character and tranquility of the property.
Review 74:The hotel requires better signposting from the villages. The location is beautiful but difficult to find. We drove for some time trying to find the hotel. Hotel needs to give all bookings clear driving instructions via return email after booki g
Review 75:Beautiful room overlooking the vineyards. Spacious and clean. The four poster bed was very co for table
Review 76:Wifi at eur 5 per day per device!
Review 77:Nice pool for family and young children Close to the ocean Good locationbetween Biarritz and St Jean de Luz Modern and big bedroom and bathroomFriendly and helpful staff Good breakfast
Review 78:The quality of the breakfast should be improved (croissants, salami, etc, were ok but very average). The restaurant only serves from 7.30 to 9.00 pm.
Review 79:Great place! Has a lot of charm. The rooms are very good value for money, very confortable with lots of space. The twist is the "chateau" feeling of the whole place, located in the middle of the St Emilion wineyards and thus very quiet and inspiring. The pool is very nice too. The restaurant has good food too with a very pleasant terrasse (where you can also have the breakfast). There is also very good wine coming from the family wineyards, that you can also visit in the house across the street.
Review 80:We speak poor French, but we do try. Ordering in the Restaurant was very hard and the lovely young lady quite unable to understand or help us. After a comfortable night we visited the Cave next morning to find a yound lady locking the door clearly leaving and in a conversation with a couple of people. Despite our hints that we would really like to look and maybe buy wine we went away without seeing the wines or being able to buy any. Whilst the yound lady continued her conversation with the couple outside in the car park. Very poor service, we feel that maybe you do not wish to sell your wine?
Review 81:Beautiful environment, location was perfect.
Review 82:The evening meal was an absolute horror. For 25 euro a tied and very ordinary meal with disastrous service. There are only 3 choices in each course - the main course had 2 duck dishes out of the 3. Every dish was such that it was prepared beforehand - yet it took over 2 hours to serve us. Hopeless and poor quality food.
Review 83:There is a sense of living in an old chateau - though it is a tired around the edges. If you are staying, get a room on the first floor - the second is the extended attic.
Review 84:Menu did not change and in order to get some variety we had to go for a more expensive option. No air-con, especially as our room had two small windows facing west in the evening.
Review 85:Peacful atmosphere. Good swimming pool. Good food. Helpful receptionist. Decent breakfast. Free bike hire.
Review 86:I had requested a twin room with disabled access but our room was up a huge flight of stairs. I was asked to pay extra to have a room on the ground floor. Meal was expensive and overhyped and nothing special
Review 87:beautiful setting-a chateau amid vinyards clean comfortable room
Review 88:Unfortunately the swimming pool was closed for maintenance during our stay. It would also be helpful if the hook for the shower head were located higher up the wall and a shower curtain hung over the bath so that one could take a proper shower.
Review 89:We particularly liked the view of the vineyards from the bedroom windows and the peaceful setting. This is the third time we have stayed there and one of the main reasons is the quality of the food which is absolutely excellent.
Review 90:We stayed in the duplex which was very comfortable. Plenty of parking. Beautiful chateau in lovely surroundings. Dinner at the chateau was excellent. Great wine. Staff were so helpful and kind.
Review 91:Lovely hotel! Be sure to get the tour of the cave underground. Thestaff was great, and very helpful when our rental car was vandalized inSt. Emilion.
Review 92:The breakfast was very poor- just 2 choices of cereals and both for kids. I would change that completely to a more gourmet type of breakfast- especially as they charge 9 euros per person ..
Review 93:This chateau was lovely, we were there with our 2 small kids and had a maisonette, very comfortable and nicely decorated. The food at their restaurant was absolutely divine, shame for the small portions! The garden outside our room was beautiful, with some fun swings/slides, the kids enjoyed that a lot. This manor house is situated in a stunning area..
Review 94:Our stay was peaceful and serene. The room was clean and had a great view. It was unbelievably quiet at night.Cannot comment on the restaurant as we didn't eat there. Would definitely go back
Review 95:A little difficult to find even with Sat Nav as it is set quite a way back from the road. Driving time to Saint Emilion is more like 15-20 minutes.
Review 96:Set in a beautiful location, surrounded by vineyards of St Emilion-Lussac-Pesseguin. Lovely old chateau, nicely refurbished and well maintained. Breakfast was typical French petit dejuner with fresh croissants, etc., however if you ask they will also cook you fried or scrambled eggs. We met the owner Joseph Sublett who spoke excellent English and was extremely helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay at Hostellerie de Roques and will stay longer next time.
Review 97:Not close enough to resort (St Emillion). Not a proper shower and separate wc. No bar. Outside areas very poorly lit in darkness. If using to visit St Emillion, be are it takes 25 min by car each way ! Also expensive restaurant with little choice and no bar. Difficult to find.
Review 98:Room spacious and characterful with samll outside balcony. In countryside.
Review 99:Quite a long walk from the carpark to the chateau..... in the rain!
Review 100:To spend a night in a medieval chateau is an experience in itself and the interor decor was wonderful.
Review 101:Enjoyed the room. Light and airy with lovely views over the countryside. The food was excellent. Dinner was indeed fine dining. Great presentation of excellent food.
Review 102:Better directions could help. Even our gps had a hard time as there isno specific address.Signage on road was helpful.
Review 103:Great location; lovely setting...and the restaurant is exquisite.
Review 104:Difficult to find,offseason a little quiet& lacking atmosphere.
Review 105:Great value,large rooms,very helpful staff,impressive chateau style building,dinner very good.
Review 106:Nothing negative
Review 107:We just couldn't believe how lucky we were to have stumbled across this place.. What a beautiful relaxing and gorgeous chateau. Very very happy with gorgeous food. Dine in! Wish we'd stayed longer just to meander amongst the vines and relax in the sun.
Review 108:Hotel room was tired, and floor not clean. Bed blankets need replacing. Bathroom needs cleaning up, as too the windows. Bathroom towels needs replacing too old and very thin.
Review 109:Restaurant was very good. Location of hotel to central St Emilion was good. Size of hotel room was adequate, beds comfortable. Hotel is very recommendable for the good food, excellent restaurant for type of hotel.
Review 110:Air conditioning would be a great addition...
Review 111:One of my all time most restful locations to stay Close to all the great vineyards and producers . The restaurant menu and food quality is exceptional o Great value also and the wine choice is superb Good also for a longer stay if touring the wine region.
Review 112:1.Surly receptionist on arrival; keys were handed out in very brusque manner. 2.No one in 'charge' and had to look for people to get any service. 3. Dinner was a rip off and breakfast very poor. 4. Rooms very basic even by french standards. Certainly not worth the price.
Review 113:Very little! The pool was nice and the staff at dinner were friendly and attentive.
Review 114:No elevators, no window screens for the abundant mosquitoes, no air conditioning (normally unnecessary, but it was 35 degrees centigrade when we were there), doors banging closed because of tightly wound springs.
Review 115:Well preserved castle, beautiful country surroundings, excellent food, nice pool.
Review 116:The only criticism I have would be the high pillows, they were very uncomfortable! Would have liked soft down pillows. And - would have been nice if the receptionist spoke a bit more English, apart from that - parfait!
Review 117:I liked the location and the quiet countryside, although I had thought it was a little bit closer to St. Emilion. The rooms we had were comfortable, the chambre superieure that my sister and her husband stayed in was very spacious and had bags of charm. It's a perfect location for a honeymoon or a romantic get away.
Review 118:Wow, what am amazing place. Not for people that expect pool bars etc. the staff were great and made every effort to make our stay great. Lovely location and easy to get to places for the day.. Will be back ..
Review 119:The staff were not user friendly. Of all the places in France we stayedwe found the staff at Logis Hostellerie De Roques the most unfriendlyand lacking in people skills that many other places we stayed at. Theywere a lot younger than most of the staff at other places and seemed outof their depth in welcoming guests apart from the one person who was onduty at breakfast times.
Review 120:Good staff attitude. Pleasant clean rooms with character Attractive dining environment Good well presented, well priced food Wine was priced well enabling one to be able to afford to try the wine of the vineyard of the property Nicely kept grounds, chilrens play area and swimming pool
Review 121:Beautiful location in the middle of the vineyards of St Emilion-Lussac-Pesseguin. Lovely castle nicely rehabilitated and decorated. Very nicefood Superb local wine bottled for the property a real treat!
Review 122:The restaurant was of poor quality and the menu did not change during our stay ( 5 nights)
Review 123:Very pleasant room, excellent pool, breakfast ok, charming location
Review 124:We were very happy with the location, the grounds around it and the interesting and well kept interior. Also the staff was not only very friendly but completely accommodating.
Review 125:What this country hotel could use is an infusion of cash to upgrade thegrounds and the public spaces of the hotel that were stripped downeverywhere except for the bedrooms and dining rooms.
Review 126:Country charm, large, well-decorated room, outstanding food, all ofwhich came at a very good price. Although located in a remotevineyard well off a main road, this hostellerie is located just 5 kmfrom St. Emilon.
Review 127:Wonderful accomodation and not too far rom St Emilion. The food at the hotel-restaurant was amazing!
Review 128:Location, proximity to St. Emilion; excellent food, service impeccable! Excellent value!
