Reviews for Saint Georges Hotel
Review 1:We took the train from Paris to Chalon, and the hotel was located directly across from the train station. No taxi needed. There is a convenient restaurant located on premises. We enjoyed the best mussels dish I have ever tasted there! We took a taxi the next day to board a Vantage cruise boat which in port nearby. The St. Georges was a wonderful choice on all levels.
Review 2:Located near the train station and not convenient to the nicer parts of town. If I had it to do again, I would stay closer to the river and restaurants. Good place for a stopover.
Review 3:Very modern and clean. Helpful staff. Great bathrooms!
Review 4:Got a very gallic 'ferme' (closed) for the restaurant at 10pm. No apology or eye contact. Probably did me a favour as prices astronomical. Breakfast staff were OK but not over friendly
Review 5:Emily on reception could not have been more helpful. Restaurant was closed at 10pm when I arrived but she phoned around and booked a restaurant for me without even asking! Her 'directeur' Monsieur Loneuf even moved his car so I could have a suitable parking space!
Review 6:We had a stop over here on the way back from the south of France. The whole hotel was very good and the staff very helpful and couldn't do enough for us. We had diner in the restaurant again the staff were very helpful as soon as they found out that I am a vegetarian they made dishes especially for me ! My wife and I were so impressed with everything that we have already booked for next year.
Review 7:It was raining
Review 8:This is a beautiful hotel with a restaurant onsite. Robe and slippers in the room were a welcome surprise. We were traveling by train and walked across the street to the location!!! Centrally located to explore the beautiful town
Review 9:Too far from town centre. Restaurant very expensive. No black tea at breakfast. No croissants and understaffed on Sunday morning,
Review 10:Design of room, friendly staff. A generally clean and bright inviting hotel.
Review 11:The hotel provided us with what we needed after a very long journey. A very comfortable bedroom and an excellent restaurant with friendly staff. We needed to leave early next morning and breakfast was available at 6.30am.
Review 12:Had to use flight of stairs to get to/from room. Other rooms did not have this disadvantage.
Review 13:Hotel location was convenient to walking around the town. Short cab ride to Viking cruise line ship docking location.
Review 14:Perfect hotel for an overnight stop over on route to Italy. Secure parking is a real benefit and central but easy location. We had one of the larger rooms which was ideal with a double bed and huge sofa bed. The staff were really helpful and friendly.
Review 15:The mirror in the bathroom was very small. We asked for a no smoking room but it smelled tobaco
Review 16:The service and installations are excellent. The restaurant is also very good (we had dinner and breakfast there)
Review 17:The only disappointing thing is that the spa was not open in the afternoon when we arrived - we were both really looking forward to using it!
Review 18:This place is fabulous!
Review 19:Did not receive the genuine welcome from Reception staff that was experienced in all other French hotels. Staff seemed to be having social chats while guests waited for service or attention.
Review 20:Breakfast selection was very good. Proximity to train station was excellent.
Review 21:The floors were solid,(wood effect), not carpet, so you could hear footsteps above even though the people were not being very loud.
Review 22:Excellent location, very helpful staff at check-in
Review 23:Not a great location, it was not the nicest side of town. All of the nice restaurants were at least a 20 minute walk away, everything around the hotel was closed. It was near the station and we didn't feel particularly safe walking around. We had booked a delux family room for my husband, myself and my two children, there were only 2 towels in the room and a wet one folded up in the corner. The view was the back of the parking lot. We had booked a parking space months before and when we arrived we were told we had not, we insisted we had (it was on the booking confirmation) so we were allowed it. When we went to check out the next day we found out they had given us a room for a different family, we realised this as the family who were given our room were at the desk checking out and were told that they were us!! After we all realised what had happened, the hotel then tried to charge us for a meal in the restaurant which neither family had had. It was eventually sorted out, but I wouldn't recommend this hotel. Breakfast was not included and was priced at 14 Euros per person, so we didn't bother. We have stayed in many other hotels over France in much nicer parts of town which were much better value for money.
Review 24:The room was large and both beds were comfortable
Review 25:We upgraded our room, which although large and comfy seemed unnecessary for an overnight stop, on reflection. The breakfast at €14 each was very poor value and was pretty average at best
Review 26:The hotel was ideally located, with very helpful staff. We booked car parking which was ideal at the end of a long drive.
Review 27:Large room and Bathroom
Review 28:Good hotel clean and all,big room and bathroom but over priced for the location and services. Price did not include breakfast which cost additiona l14 Euro PP. For some reason Wifi did not e Work.
Review 29:A really great hotel at a reasonable price given the quality of the rooms (via Booking.com). It's location is good for train travellers. There is a bus stop right across the road (get No. 1 bus runs every 30 mins to take you partway uptown). The in-house restaurant was very good but a tad expensive but worth it for the convenience. All the other restaurants and the other tourist districts are a fair way away but this is acceptale given the quality of the hotel
Review 30:Limited choice for breakfast (no scrambled eggs, no fish,...), and limited places on the parkplace
Review 31:Great attitude of the staff (smiling and truly service oriented), modern set-up of the hotel, comfortable and spacious rooms,
Review 32:Not a bad experience but I don't like standing in the bath to have a shower...shower was great tho'...
Review 33:Close to train station, wifi and friendly staff...
Review 34:The shower in the bathtub was a little hard to work safely (big corner tub with a shower head - no curtain), hot hot water - but it could just be our perspective not being used to it.
Review 35:The location was good for us near the train station as we were just staying 2 days without a car and then taking another train to Beaune.
Review 36:The small terrace only had 1 chair.
Review 37:Only there 1 night before Viking river cruise. Very helpful staff. Room comfortable. Good location from the train station. Important since no cabs were available.
Review 38:La perfection hôtelière. Un personnel super sympa et très pro que ce soit en réception ou au restaurant. Des installations impeccables, chambres superbes et surtout une insonorisation parfaite !
Review 39:No bad experiences.
Review 40:Room was the largest room we experienced on our trip, and appointed much nicer than Paris four star hotels we stayed at. Very convenient for catching river cruise boats or train.
Review 41:Noisy air conditioning. No Tea or Coffee facilities.
Review 42:Very polite staff. Good car parking. Didn't eat at the hotel. Didn't use spa facilities. Very comfy bed, very clean room with good furnishings. Use of safe - Free! Good toiletries provided?
Review 43:Nothing. Will definitely stay there again when next passing through or visiting Burgundy.
Review 44:The staff are great. The superior rooms are very comfortable with amazing bathrooms. The standard rooms are small but very comfortable and stylish. Sample the food and especially the wine (list) in their restaurant
Review 45:We had no complaints with the hotel.
Review 46:Large quiet room. Not far from all the attractions of the town. Convenient to railway station for day trips to Macon etc.
Review 47:Nonsmiling woman at desk upon arrival. Seemed bored. very large tub hard to step into and could not get cold water faucet in tub to work.
Review 48:Closeness to train station, quietness, appearance, large room and bath.
Review 49:Just didn't come up to expectations. Air con was useless on a hot April night and had to open windows with relevant noise. Tiles on bathroom floor with ingrained dirt. Young woman on reception not very welcoming.
Review 50:Superior room was good size and well furnished. Dinner in the restaurant at €32 pp was very good value. Location, whilst good, was not in the best part of town.
Review 51:Location, town and facilities in the hotel were of high standard, excellent bed even for people with back problems. I can recommend it, but hopt that not all of you will come, otherwise I wont be able to find a room next. Time.the restaurant is good and friendly,
Review 52:Wifi ok. Breakfast just ok. Not worth 14 Euros. Extra for parking 7 Euros. Front desk staff not terrible but also overly friendly or helpful.
Review 53:Nice lobby. Clean. Decent size room.
Review 54:Comfortable, very well appointed modern room. Good bed and high quality sheets. Luxury bathroom with bath and shower. Spa open till mid evening for treatments. Secure parking. Very good breakfasts. Helpful and friendly staff.
Review 55:Sadly the restaurant food was disappointing and uninspiring. The hotel is a 15 min walk to the town centre. Only a small car park.
Review 56:The staff were excellent. Friendly and helpful.
Review 57:We arrived valentines day & their restaurant was full. They should of warned us beforehand. As we had young children & we had to go searching for somewhere to eat.
Review 58:Staff friendliness was wonderful
Review 59:nothing
Review 60:we were both surprised that although we were in the centre of a busy town, adjacent to the main line station, how quite the the hotel was once we were inside. The staff were attentive without being overly so. a perfect stay over on our way to the Alps.
Review 61:It is so hard to put ones finger on what was wrong with this hotel but: - the room had been superficially refurbished eg painted tiles. - It smelt funny - the room had no heating so was heated by dimplex heaters. - The restaurant was lit as though for a night time football match. - George Blanc of Bourg en Bresse with three Michelin stars has lent his name to the restaurant. This should have made me wary as we stayed at his eponymous hotel in Bourg en Bresse about 15 years and ago and had a dreadful experience. The food while ok was nothing special (my son's adult burger was poor). One could have been eating in France in any of the past four decades! The stay for my son and me cost €275 for a night and I just think that there must be better value elsewhere with in 50 kms. In general
Review 62:Bed, Size of room Breakfast was ok
Review 63:The air conditioning had been turned off to run as heating. The temperature in our room was 28 degrees C and the busy road outside was very noisy when the doors to our balcony were opened. Apparently the switch happens on 1st October irrespective of the weather. It quite spoiled our brief stay. Breakfast was of average quality.
Review 64:our room, cleanliness, friendly staff (all but one)
Review 65:Nothing really maybe English TV would have been nice.
Review 66:Lovely helpful staff with good English. Modern room very clean. Nice bathroom with separate toilet. Good safe parking comfortable bed and good WiFi. Bit of a walk to the old town but worth the walk. Good restaurants on the 'island'.
Review 67:Expensive breakfast at 14 Euros.
Review 68:Good size of the room/bathroom. Nice large shower. Just beside therailway station, and one km from the river cruise wharf.
Review 69:some of the staff need a lesson in customer relations, too aloof and reluctant to help. a couple of the desk personnel were excellent.
Review 70:very spacious room, comfortable, easy access to town centre.
Review 71:This hotel was very modern with large room and extra large bathroom and separate toilet room. It was close to the train station and a short taxi ride to the Viking Cruise Ship. Close to some shopping. EXcellent place to stay.
Review 72:- Didn't take breakfast because it seemed too expensive (not included in the room price). -Bed was too hard, didn't sleep very well because of it - Airco is placed in such a way that when turned on, the draft is right at you and it can get uncomfortable. Basically we couldn't sleep with the airco on, and the window is quite small to let enough air in (it was a warm night).
Review 73:- Location - walking distance from the centre (about 15 min walking slowly) - Hotel is easily reached by car and there's a parking at the back for about 12 cars ; it' better to reserve it. Costs 7 eur. - Room is structured well because there's a small hall and the bathroom door is there and not immediately in the sleeping area. Good size bathroom, nice shower. The sleeping area could be bigger though.
Review 74:No restaurant for dinner due to party. No idea until we arrived. Poor alternative offered!
Review 75:Large room, great facilities Good parking in town Wifi great Modern style
Review 76:Only stayed for one night and our room was quite small. No tea or coffee making facilities in the room, and had to go to a special room to do our ironing.
Review 77:Good location, close to the train station(as we arrived by train). I needed a needle and thread to sew up a seam which was unraveling, and the lady at reception was wonderful and found me a little sewing kit. All the reception staff were very nice and friendly.
Review 78:Didn't have much success with Wi-Fi in my room. The restaurant became a necessity, particularly over the weekend given the lack of other nearby options, but the wine list was the much better part of the menu and its execution.
Review 79:Overall, this is a very nice efficient hotel. Staff helpfulness and friendliness in supporting your visit or just answering general questions was much above average, even in English. Good value in the room amenities as well as guarded parking. Modern facilities; clean well-designed and appointed rooms.
Review 80:Location to the train station at Chalon Sur Soanne made it extremely easy to join up with Viking river cruise. Hotel was clean and well kept. Bistro was very good. Great value.
Review 81:Breakfast was poor value. Compared with our hotel in Aigues Mortes, it cost 2 Euros more and was about 5 Euros less in value
Review 82:Easy to find. Extra touches (bath robes and slippers, large walk in shower etc.) at less than luxury prices. Excellent restaurant. (Astonishing wine list should you require it).
Review 83:While breakfast was good,it was expensive €14. The lounge area was very small. I did not like animals being allowed in the restaurant and in the rooms of the hotel: very unhygienic.
Review 84:The room was free from noise.very serene. One could hear nothing of other quests. Sleeping was no trouble The staff did their best with limited understanding of English. Bed was very comfortable and room extra clean.p
Review 85:Prompt thorough replies to several e-mail questions. Room was very attractively furnished and extremely clean. The staff was knowledgeable and helpful with local directions. The location is directly across from the train station and within 15 mnutes walking distance to most points of interest in town.
Review 86:Across the street from the Rail Station, our final destination after 22 hours of travel from the US. This was our second stay at the Saint Georges... a booking on each end of a four-day bicycle tour of the Voie Verte. From there continued from Chalon, cycling north to Dijon and the Canal de Bourgogne. It is very easy to cycle in either direction from this convenient location on the Place de la Gare. We appreciated the covered outdoor bicycle parking and a general understanding of the needs of bicycle travelers.
Review 87:Proximity to the Gare. Comfortable atmosphere. We especially liked all of the amenities: covered parking for bicycles, generous breakfast, friendly and attentive staff.
Review 88:Nothing!
Review 89:Great hotel in all aspects. Helpful staff informed us about the town and the best places to see. A lovely town with a lot going on. Lots of bars and restaurants within 5 or 10 minutes walking distance.
Review 90:We wanted a hotel near the train station but within walking distance of the city center and sights. The hotel was not only in the right location but had a wonderful restaurant for a lovely dinner. Staff could not have been more accommodating.
Review 91:We booked this hotel as a half way stop over on our way to the south of France. It was our sons 12th birthday and having informed the hotel of this he found his bed decorated with sweets! A lovely personal touch. The hotel is a lovely building set in an attractive square near the station which was was very peaceful. All 7 of our party had a wonderful nights sleep in comfortable air conditioned rooms and the buffet breakfast set us all up for our second day travelling. Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
Review 92:Nothing to dislike
Review 93:Everything, staff polite and helpful.Secure parking.Superb room, everything new. They served champagne at breakfast, not sure if this is the norm.Location is easy to find by the station within walking distance of the historic centre.
Review 94:(This is just because I didn't want to write "nothing":the wifi access is rather restrictive as the code received during check-in was good for one device only, but we needed to get three devicesonline, so be sure to ask for a code for each device.)
Review 95:Rooms, Location, Restaurant: As a stopover on our way through France, the hotel offers modern, well renovated spacious rooms with modernfacilities. The central location of the hotel would have offered greataccess to the old town, but as it happened to be pouring rain upon ourarrival we resorted to the in-house restaurant, which was able tosurprise us in every way: excellent service with great seasonal food andfantastic wine. Overall a great package for a fair price (85 eur for adouble room).
Review 96:We did not like the two stairs up to the bathroom. Too dangerous. Only one small window to a roof. If open ylu had a lot of noise from the ventilators.
Review 97:Not much. It was not our style. Too modern I suppose. Strong colours. No safe in room. I was supposed to be a superior room, but I doubt that it was.
Review 98:Lovely room, stylish and very clean. great dinner perfect stop-off en route to the Alps.
Review 99:Convenient for en route travels across France. Good restaurant so no need to go out.
Review 100:We stayed New Year's Eve We were treated very well And recommend you try it
Review 101:Modern rooms with comfy bed Great restaurant Good location next to train station Parking
Review 102:The secure parking was important for us as we had bicycles on the roof.
Review 103:Staff very helpful
Review 104:Access to the spa was great and we ate really well in the restaurant, with friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Review 105:Competently good. Health Spa added bonus for sure.
Review 106:No fridge no kettle / coffee tea facilities
Review 107:Staff and food
Review 108:Superb food - evening meal and breakfast. Very comfortable room for a one night stop-over. Secure parking.
Review 109:Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant in the hotel.
Review 110:unstable wifi
Review 111:Nice big room, great restaurant, helpful and friendly staff
Review 112:The location was perfect for us. We had to catch a train to Paris and it was right there. The hotel was originally designed for the train station.
Review 113:Nothing
Review 114:Location and modern style hotel
Review 115:Friendly helpful staff
Review 116:Location very good
Review 117:The location in the town was perfect And I would go back chalone is a lovely place to visit
Review 118:Nice ambience, helpful and efficient staff, surprisingly good dining room/restaurant. We would return.
Review 119:clean, very nice location, staff very helpfull and friendly
Review 120:quality of roons, free sauna
