Reviews for Hôtel du Bois

Review 1:You couldn't always get lifts to and from the hotel to the slope when you wanted them.

Review 2:You always have a warm welcome with friendly staff. The room had a great view of Mont Blanc. The meals in the restaurant were great.

Review 3:Some aspects were really disappointing. We booked this hotel partly because we like coming back from the slopes to a hot tub and a beer. Unfortunately, the hot tub wasn't working and the bar was hardly open, generally opening at 6.30pm and closing around 10.30. So really, only open when you're out at dinner. On top of that, they really don't know how to do many drinks. One of our party ordered a martini and lemonade and the barmaid disappeared for 10 minutes, then came back with the receptionist to show her how it was made. As it's a hotel there needs to be communal areas, like a bar, that the whole party can meet up in. That was sorely lacking, and we ended up going to the Hotel Cristal further up the road after skiing which was open all the time. We went at a time which was a bit quiet as there was little snow, but we paid a lot of money and expect the same level of service and open facilities, like hot tub and bar, whether the hotel was busy or empty. We've stayed at other places in Chamonix that are better value, and definitely epitomise the enjoyment of a ski holiday better.

Review 4:The hotel and staff were very nice. Great decor in the restaurant and bar. Great views of Mont Blanc. Good access to the Chamonix Bus service.

Review 5:Sauna could be renovated. But great that there is one at all:)

Review 6:Staff was just great - very friendly and great service! Food at dinner was very good! In the bar they were preparing hot wine just for us.

Review 7:It would be nice having kettlers in rooms.

Review 8:Overall, th price and confort were great! The location is around 5-7 mins by car from Chamonix and we liked the food, the living room, the hot wine, the Christmas tree; it was also great that we could go to pool and sauna.

Review 9:Likely due to the room location on the top floor our shower was a bit difficult to use due to the slanting ceiling, luckily there was a tub and we were happy enough to us that.

Review 10:Lovely staff, they were very friendly and accommodating when we had to change our reservation twice due to adjustments in our TMB trekking schedule. Great views and the pool and sauna were perfect for the end of our 10 day trek.

Review 11:Wifi wasn't the best could only receive it outside. However it was fast enough once connected.

Review 12:The location was just right. Not too busy an area. Beautiful views being shadowed by mountains, fantastic.

Review 13:Older, somewhat tired motel. Needs a face-lift. Right on the highway. Room overlooked parking lot. Illuminated during the evening with outside floodlight - a bit annoying. Access to outside (above ground) pool via elevator through 1st floor hall then under stairwell and over old roof?! Stairs down to outside pool were through storage area.

Review 14:Staff was very helpful with directions and train schedule.

Review 15:Kind staff - held our bags whilst we did the Tour du Mont-Blanc. Excellent English. Swimming pool and sauna great. Great location with stunning views from rooms (we had room with balcony). Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Review 16:Chlore smell at reception which did not invite to go to the pool; not even an Easter chocolate egg on Easter Sunday and no decoration on tables!

Review 17:Easy to find, warm welcome

Review 18:Nothing

Review 19:Great self catering 'penthouse style' set up with on-site restaurant if needed. Really faultless accommodation, pool, bar, view and staff. Les Houches is also a great little place too with excellent skiing.

Review 20:We are used to ski in - ski out so the bus journey was a bit of a pain, as it was 50 minutes journey from hotel to Le Tour ski area. Chamonix is about 10 minutes away.

Review 21:Wonderful staff, good accommodation, Well presented. Nice bar and pool area.If hotel was closer to the bigger ski areas would stay there everytime.

Review 22:I was disappointed with the breakfast - being a fat Englishman I thought there would be the good old English Breakfast but served continental instead - it would have been nice to be offered as an extra - having said this I will be coming back next year

Review 23:The food was absolutely top draw in the evening - the staff and the owner were very professional and accommodating - Being English it was very easy to communicate with them which gave us the personal touch

Review 24:Swimming pool area needed some attention and smell of chlorine quite strong at times. Limited wine menu and not all available. Room quite small for two sharing. Fine if you were a couple.

Review 25:Decent size towels in the bathroom, lots of hot water and general cleanliness of rooms good. Good breakfast and food was of a good standard.

Review 26:Nothing really. Beer could have been a little cheaper.

Review 27:We were made to feel very welcome. Transport to the main lifts available at our convenience. Public bus stops nearby. Food excellent.

Review 28:Rooms are a little dated in style, but that can easily be overlooked by the excellent location, very friendly staff, and great food.

Review 29:We ended up spending more time at the hotel than originally anticipated due to a snowstorm...So, we enjoyed a nice cold beer from their bar in front of their warm wood burning fireplace. Their continental breakfast is worth the reasonable Euros. The dinner was excellent.

Review 30:Traveling from Chambery airport it's the first one to be closed for weather conditions

Review 31:Accessible for all areas, friendly helpful staff and a lot to do in the area

Review 32:The staff were incredibly helpful. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt well looked after. The courtesy bus to the ski lift was much appreciated. Breakfast was also very good.

Review 33:receptionist & owners very helpful & welcoming good size quiet room with great mountain views restaurant offers wide range of great food shuttle to slopes & ski bus stop 50m ski hire shop across road

Review 34:The strange black bugs on our white bed covers that may have come from the rustic old wood of the room interiors? The towels may have been white a few years ago, now many of them are brown and they're so hard you are tempted to stand them up! Lack of sound insulation between rooms…we didn't care to hear the next door neighbor's frequency of urination in his bathroom! The fact that we requested a non-smoking room, but when we opened our balcony door, we got the whole battery of smoke from our next door neighbor's cigarettes. The constant presence of and smell of chlorine steam in the lobby that extends into other areas of the main floor. Although you arrive at breakfast you get a lot of half-empty or almost empty bowls, giving you the feeling you're getting leftovers! Only one woman handling the breakfast area, and one whose appearance and attitude leaves much to be desired! Comb your hair, lady, or try to look like you took a shower or a bath, it gives guests an impression of cleanliness of the whole establishment! The place definitely needs a serious updating of carpets, new towels (see above), shower curtains that aren't cracked and cling to your body. The friendliness of the owner family is not enough to make up for all the shortcomings of this hotel.

Review 35:The shower! The coffee machine in the breakfast room, allowing guests to extract their own favorite brew!

Review 36:Rather expensive for what you get. Room was small and dark and wifi-reception bad. Booked room with mountain view, but room was on the street side anyway, not facing Mont Blanc side ..

Review 37:very friendly hotel

Review 38:Friendly, helpful and provided good service.

Review 39:Rooms a little small if you have lots of luggage

Review 40:Exceptionally helpful reception staff

Review 41:Shower is weak and carpets need updating in the room, very basic

Review 42:The beds are very comfortable !

Review 43:Amazing staff, super friendly, absolutely great stay! Dinner was really good too.

Review 44:Location, Staff, Facilities

Review 51:Wi-fi doesn't reach all the rooms

Review 52:Fantastic view of Mont Blanc from our balcony. Good chef. We ate in the hotel restaurant every evening.

Review 53:Our kids enjoyed the pool. The staff was very warm and accommodating. Meals in the restaurant, breakfasts and dinners were good.

Review 54:The hotel staff was very kind and helpfull. Its super to take a sauna after a long day of skiing.

Review 55:Skiroom is not very well equipped

Review 56:Friendliness, breakfast & dinner

Review 57:Excellent hotel, very nice staff, breakfast, rooms, restaurant, service and ambiance.

Review 58:Staff always very friendly and helpful. Room clean and functional. Bar area warm and welcoming. Would happily stay again.

Review 59:Excellent shuttle bus service

Review 60:No microwave, wifi not great in Apartments.

Review 61:Size of Apartments brilliant!

Review 62:The view of the window from our bedroom was obstructed. A little expensive.

Review 63:Big hotel with good facilities: restaurant, bar, swimming pool.

Review 64:too expensive for the quality of the room which was very small and dark. Interior vey dated

Review 65:Friendly staff and good restaurant!

Review 66:Skiing at Lea Houches is a bit tame so better to go to Flegere.

Review 67:Location was quiet,

Review 68:Small room, a little tired. Les Houches is 6km from Chamonix.

Review 69:Very friendly. Nice pool (didn't try it). Pleasant bar and restaurant.

Review 70:the food was very good, nice bar area and very friendly staff

Review 71:- very expensive - size of room (could have been a bit larger)

Review 72:- very helpful staff - very good food at the restaurant - pool facilities

Review 73:Noise Level ...sometimes

Review 74:Food and View

Review 75:Wifi was poor in the room

Review 76:Homey feel

Review 77:Set menu for evening meal, although sounded good, was not up to much.

Review 78:Always happy to help and shuttle bus service was a bonus to get to the lifts.

Review 79:none

Review 80:food was delicious, help full staff and always smiling. we loved it.

Review 81:lovely bar, reasonable prices and superb staff. Already booked to go back

Review 82:On outskirts of village

Review 83:Comfortable bedroom, good buffet breakfast

Review 84:Small rooms

Review 85:Location Friendly & helpfull staff

Review 86:The hotel host and restaurant manager was terrific! He was engaged, fun and proud of what he does. We really appreciated his enthusiasm.

Review 87:Friendly staff, good food, nice room warm swimming pool nice bar area.

Review 88:Run down hotel up for sale by English owner. Evening meal bought in from local supermarket. Paid over the odds for this location and the staff need to be motivated. Would not recommend to any one till it has investment or new owners.

Review 89:The only good thing was the Polish receptionist.

Review 90:I was there for one night in a scientific trip and the price of the hotel was very exoensive for me.

Review 91:I liked the free sona and swiming pool... although I didn't have time to use them.

Review 92:Not easy to transfer small children from car to chalet. Chalet and grounds had many danger zones where small children could get injured. Second day breakfast was very basic with much already eaten by early departing bus tour.

Review 93:Excellent location, stunning views. First day breakfast was superb.

Review 94:Not much at all. Restaurant buffet food was basic with food standing for some time, and next time would avoid that part of the menu.

Review 95:Very pleasant hotel, friendly staff, nice pool to relax in at the end of the day. Good access to a range of ski areas in the valley, and never a problem parking when returning. A bargain compared to other similar hotels in Chamonix

Review 96:Breakfast was disorganised - constantly running out - coffee machine more often than not had run out if milk - staff were however very helpful and tried their best!

Review 97:Excellent friendly staff! Shuttle to the lifts

Review 98:A bit of a scramble at breakfast. Poor Wi-Fi.

Review 99:Great staff, always helpful. Nice pool. Good location. Excellent shuttle service. Good parking. Good beer!

Review 100:The hotel was run-down, and very unclean! No maintenance was done in years, the shower didn’t work properly, the bed sheets were dirty, the lighting didn’t work properly, the room had a strange smell to it. We ate at the restaurant, the food (beef burger) was uncooked, and partly frozen). It is a surprise that this hotel is not shut-down due to health regulations!! Had a look into the kitchen where the breakfast as prepared- was a huge mess and un-hygienic! I have stayed in many hotels all around the world, and this was the worst! We moved out after one night and stayed at another place. If you are not fussy about the basic necessities like cleanliness, lighting & bathroom facilities, this is the hotel for you.

Review 101:Travelling to main Chamonix ski areas above Chamonix town takes two buses with a transfer. Can take 1 to 2 hours if unlucky. Not a problem if have own car.

Review 102:Helpful and pleasant staff, good pool and sauna, bar area nice place to sit. Some good restaurants within 10 to 15 mins walk.

Review 103:We could not fault it. The attentive staff could not do enough for us and the owner seemed to be there 24 hours a day making sure we were well looked after. We three young children with us and it was great to have the bonus of pool and games room and family friendly restaurant and the invaluable service of the shuttle bus from the front door to the ski lift whenever we wanted it. We can't believe this is only 3 stars: we would give it 5!

Review 104:Our room was quite small and whilst this wasn't a big problem it make storage of clothing a little difficult.

Review 105:Very comfortable & cosy; staff provided excellent service, very helpful; bus service to resort made getting on the slopes that bit easier. Overall very good, we would happily come back.

Review 106:The service in the restaurant was a bit hit and miss, slow at times and unorganised

Review 107:The pool was very good after a days skiing. The bar was very cosy with a great fire. Natalie on reception was very helpful. The bus service was very good to the ski lifts. I will stay here again no problem.

Review 108:The choice for lunch was cheese toastie or cheese and ham toastie! Breakfast was limited for the 15 euro extra each. We had a dark blue 70s bathroom and the room was cold when we got in there.

Review 109:The room was furnished nicely, the staff arranged us a taxi and were fairly friendly.

Review 110:thought the food was only fair particularly the set breakfasts and buffet dinners. A la carte better.

Review 111:excellent staff. good bedroom with enough space and bathroom.good facilities-swimming pool, ski room, car park.

Review 112:Location is not that great unless you have a car or are willing to use the buses.

Review 113:Good value, basic accommodation. Excellent shuttle service to the ski-lifts. Friendly staff. Great bar with a free to use guitar! Garage parking.

Review 114:Dull food Restaurant not well organised

Review 115:Very friendly, helpful owner Pleasant, helpful staff Nice pool Nice bar Excellent shuttle service to the ski-lifts

Review 116:Only had dinner once upon arrival at the hotel: clearly an area that could be improved.

Review 117:There were 9 of us staying in a Chalet (Kandahar and then l'Aiguille). Lay out is very good, kitchen equipment ok, views from l'Aiguille fantastic. Staff very friendly.

Review 118:Nada / Nothing!!

Review 119:Me ha gustado todo, pero quisiera destacar al personal del hotel, son, simplemente excelentes! siempre tratando de resolver las inquietudes que teníamos y brindando un servicio fuera de serie! I liked everithing, but I would like to highlight the personnel of the hotel, they, all, are simply excellent! always trying to solve our requests giving us an outstanding service. Good job! thanks!!

Review 120:I was told when I arrived that the restaurant was closed as there was aseminar. (There must have been all of 20 people!) The receptionist didmake me up a plate but it wasn't super. The bed was veryuncomfortable. There is no one on reception at night, just a telephoneto call the night staff and the key card to my room didn't work.Took me 15 min to get hold of someone.

Review 121:I chose the hotel because it was very 'Heidi in the Alps' Underthe right circumstances it is probably ok. However...

Review 122:Basic menu for the evening meal - concentrates on various types of beef burgers.

Review 123:The view of Mont Blanc from the bedroom window and the hot chocolate for breakfast.

Review 124:no wi fi available as said on booking, room booked not available had to have a different room twin not double,no mountain view as said in booking ,food very very poor,no tea coffee facilities in room.

Review 125:receptionist

Review 126:Evening Meal buffet was not as good as others we have experienced - this was not value for money. But there are other restaurants in the area - especially in Chamonix.

Review 127:Les Houches is an excellent centre for exploring the area around Mont Blanc. The hotel was very welcoming. Excellent Breakfast.
