Reviews for Palacio Valderrabanos
Review 1:The walls are like from paper. Lots of noise from neighbours. Breakfast was poor. .waitress rude..nothing fresh
Review 2:Check in check out very friendly. Location is perfect
Review 3:Although we had booked several months beforehand and asked for a room with a view over the cathedral square we were stuck in a back room with a view onto the kitchen chimneys. We kept the curtains closed.
Review 4:Location is right in the centre Avila old town and the hotel is an old bishop's palace which has been sympathetically modernised and converted.
Review 5:The mattress was the hardest that I have ever slept on! A very noisy hotel due to poor accoustic insulation between floors and adjacent rooms.
Review 6:It was very well situated, in the centre of old Avila and close to all restaurants
Review 7:The staff didn't speak much English. The air conditioning was a little noisy so I had to turn off all the power in the room to sleep. During the night I heard the other guests as they opened and shut doors. More sound proofing would be great.
Review 8:This is a good luxury hotel in an excellent location. My room looked out over the cathedral and the mainly pedestrian cathedral square. The common areas are tastefully decorated. The rooms are comfortable and large with wooden floors.
Review 9:There is no nearby or on-site parking, although I was directed to places a few minutes away. There was no soap-tray in the shower and the doorstop in the bathroom could cause a foot injury. One of the fixings on a rail in the shower was loose. Small things, but considering how lovely everything else was, these should be addressed.
Review 10:The hotel is right next to the cathedral, well-situated for everything in the old town. The room was huge and very comfortable with a great view. Two televisions and really hot showers!
Review 11:Thin bath towels -the only criticism!
Review 12:Centrally located -well appointed large room with comfortable beds -nice bathroom -view over rear of cathedral-able to park to offload luggage
Review 13:The beds are too hard which gave me pain in the back. The bathroom in the room we had was not really logically distributed, like there is always something in the way. To get to the hotel is not indicated at all. Most roads are one way, when you make a mistake it means you have to go all around again and parking is a real problem. Inside the citywalls you pay between 9 or 16 euro per day for parking in a garage. Near the citywalls is cheaper but you have to put tickets.
Review 14:The hotel is really centrally located and close to all interesting things to see. The hotel itself looks very nice as it used to be a palace. The citywalls are impresive including all the architecture.
Review 15:Expensive breakfast, poor English spoken by the staff, no kettle in our room.
Review 16:It it located in the very middle of Cathedral Sq, great interiors, luxury for low price.
Review 17:Wifi is poor in the rooms but not in public areas. Parking is a bit of a challenge
Review 18:Beautiful historic hotel. Very helpful staff. Great breakfast. Very clean room
Review 19:nothing
Review 20:The church just behind the door. all shops and restaurant are few steps only. we enjoy our stay. The room are big and comfortable also the bathroom amazing.
Review 21:The staff told us that Peking would cost 10 euro in a specific lot. Parking for the day actually cost close to 19 euro. We asked repeatedly for their confirmation that the cost was 10 euro and that we didn't have to do anything special for that rate. Additionally, directions to the parking were not provided ahead of time when requested with the booking. Besides parking (which we are well aware is often a problem), the room smelled of urine and sewage, which simply isn't acceptable for a hotel that labels itself as luxury. The facilities seemed dated and a bit shabby compared to other (less nice!) hotels we stayed at in other cities in Castille-Leon.
Review 22:Great location, in a historic palace in the center of town.
Review 23:No information in rooms. No comfortable chairs in room. Breakfast crowded and expensive - far cheaper in town. No incentive to eat in the hotel. Staff diffident and not welcoming.
Review 24:Comfortable lounges and excellent location for the sites of Avila. Very clean rooms and very comfortable beds.
Review 25:Free wifi did not work in our room only in the lounge room near the reception. Breakfast options were very limited eg packaged sliced bread, limited hot food choices.
Review 26:Excellent location next to cathedral. Quiet room. Good air conditioning. Courteous and efficient staff at reception.
Review 27:In the whole 3 weeks travelling through Spain this was the only 4 star hotel we stayed in and the bed was the MOST UNCOMFORTABLE. This was a disappointment but we were only staying 1 night. Found crumbs down the sides of the cushions in the bedroom otherwise clean
Review 28:Good location and parking available very near by and you can drive to front of Hotel to drop off and pick up cases. Beautiful building and decorations. Helpful staff.
Review 29:They did not put baby bed in our room however I ordered it, and wrote an extra e-mail for it, but they gave an extra bed, that we could not use. (They did not charge for this extra bed). We managed the problem, but it was not ideal.
Review 30:Clean, close to the center, friendly atmosphere.
Review 31:Breakfast choices were limited. There were large tour groups there during our stay, made it difficult to get near the food....the breakfast rooms are too small for large crowds.
Review 32:Friendly staff, great location, clean rooms. The cathedral is just across the square from this hotel -we could see it from our windows. The building itself is beautiful - a former palace. Very well-maintained...we would stay there again.
Review 35:Wifi was the usual hotel variety, which means not very good. Very slow in our room.
Review 36:The location right next to the cathedral and within easy walking distance of both attractions and restaurants makes this a great place for a short stay in Avila.
Review 37:Check out service was poor. The member of staff handling check out had to leave the desk to assist someone in the queue leaving everyone else waiting. This would not have been a problem if the other member of staff behind the reception desk had been willing to serve customers whilst he was away.
Review 38:A centrally located hotel in the town very close to the cathedral and the walls of the city. the room was very comfortable.
Review 39:Staff indifferent - didn't offer to help my wife carry heavy cases as I was away parking the car ( a 30 min round trip!); air con useless;
Review 40:Bang in the middle of town but parking some distance away and expensive; reception rooms are fabulous but the dining room is really grim
Review 41:Fantastic location and authentic place coupled with modern services and rooms. You really feel a renaisance palace. Rooms are very nice furnitured, beds are big and of excelence quality. Charming common places. Best location to feel Avila's city soul!. Hope to come again
Review 42:None
Review 43:This hotel is a renovated medieval palace and is absolutely beautiful. Our window looked over the Cathedral of Avila, which is right next door. We regret only staying one night--this was a truly unforgettable experience. Also close to restaurants, cafes and shopping. Incredible rate too!
Review 44:Internet was not working. Water temperature in shower was very hard to regulate. Overall these were minor problems; we had a great stay.
Review 45:Excellent location near entrance to old city wall walks. Secure parking for our rental car. Large comfortable rooms with great views. Helpful staff.
Review 46:Nothing important to be mentioned.
Review 47:It was a pleasant surprise to get back to this beautiful Palace and see that they have finally improved it. Most of the Hotel is refurbished and presents the guests with beautiful rooms, exquisite Suites and nice conference rooms. Had the possibility to tour around the Hotel and see some of their rooms. It´s worth while and its location is just perfect for those looking to take advantage to discover Avila on foot. Stuff is nice and helpful. Breakfast is also really nice and with much to chose from.
Review 48:There was no toothpaste in our room and the old man on reception stated that they didn't have any, which we knew to be untrue as the younger very helpful receptionist had got us some earlier, although the packet was only enough for one person. The view from the room was mediocre and not as splendid as the website shows. Finally the bed wasn't overly comfy.
Review 49:We liked the building, most of the staff and the breakfast.
Review 50:No parking Finding it was tough Little plaster balls fell from the walls all night Location means that it's noisy at night/ very early morning
Review 51:Location is good for stepping out and being in the centre Room was a good size Rate was decent
Review 52:Wifi did not work in room. Breakfast was poor. Parking slot too small for car.
Review 53:Location in the históricas centre and just next to Cathedral. Historical building.
Review 54:When we checked in, all our 2 mobiles, 2 notebooks and 1 iPad cannot connect to the hotel's Wifi. The hotel staff just asked us to wait. Yes or no was the only answer when we seek help or ask for direction or information from hotel staff (not the same guy). So we chose to check out this unhelpful place early in the next morning.
Review 55:The hotel is inside the wall city and near one of the gates. It can be easily reached by car (or taxi) or walk. Plaza Mayor is not far away and there are some good restaurants and bar outside the wall.
Review 56:The hotel itself is really NICE. It is such a PITY that the modern built building outside is there, with the shops.Takes away a lot of the atmosphere in the Plaza. It should at least have been built in the old architecture stile and colors.
Review 57:Wifi kept dropping out and we had to go down to the reception to report the problem a few times. The lift was not clearly marked and many guests (including us) got a bit lost on the way there.
Review 58:Great location right next to the cathedral which made it perfect for exploring the medieval city of Avila. Comfortable rooms with good bathroom and good sized bath was welcome. The maids were really lovely and welcoming. All staff were very pleasant.
Review 59:They were just starting a complete redecoration of the whole ground floor, so everything was covered in plastic, ... windows and frames , carpets, furniture. .. pictures removed, ... this did not really detract from our enjoyment of our stay, as our bedroom was not affected.
Review 60:location could not have been better. helpful desk staff, and a private carpark just around the corner. (Euros 9.90 ). An impressive entrance.
Review 61:The wifi was a bit unpredictable, worked well in our room most of the time but sometimes had to go down to the seating area near the lift to get strong signal. We were on the 2nd floor but down the hall from the lift.
Review 62:Almost everything ! The location is just wonderful, right on the cathedral square but still quiet. Lovely big comfortable room and enormous, luxurious bathroom, newly renovated. The free breakfast is great, with lots of variety and very high quality. Friendly, helpful staff and great atmosphere, a real sense of history and grandeur , a wonderful experience and unbelievable value ! We were able to find cheap on street parking close by, too !
Review 63:Nothing really!
Review 64:Location and proximity to the old part of the town. Very close to the major tourist attractions and right next to the Cathedral. Extremely good value for money.
Review 65:We stayed with our pet Labrador and the hotel was very accommodating with this . The location was fantastic , right next to the cathedral and within easy walk of the shops and restaurants . The hotel also has it's own lock up garage area .
Review 66:Noisy street llate at night on the long weekend
Review 67:Great location on the edge of the old town. Great value-for-money degustation dinner and good breakfast included. Pleasant staff and roomy accommodation
Review 68:The carpark was full so we had to park just outside the walls in a public carpark which cost us €19 a day.
Review 69:I liked the fact that it had a historical background in that it is a palace converted into a hotel. The breakfast was a bit dear for Spain at €9 but it was still worth it. The views from the hotel, not to mention the location, are ideal.
Review 70:General lack of good English speaker made enquiries difficult. Wifi poor. tourist menu the same each day for dinner.
Review 71:Standard of room accomodation very good together with historical character Breakfast excellent as was table d'ote/tourist menu Easy walking distance to main tourist attractions
Review 72:The hotel has its own parking but as this was full (there was a weekend festival on and we arrived in the middle of it on a Saturday evening) we had to park at a distance outside the city walls. Trailing cases along the cobbled streets is not so easy! However this would not put us off using the hotel again as the convenience of the location in ever other respect was so good.
Review 73:This old beautifully renovated convent is so conveniently situated to many of the main attractions of the city e.g. the city walls and the cathedral right beside it and also close to many little restaurants in littled cobbled streets. Very comfortable room and a good choice at breakfast.
Review 74:No parking in the hotel . The staff in the afternoon was not accomodating but the midnight shift staff was better. The hotel is old and not a 4 star for me since they are not well maintained and smells old.
Review 75:Location. It was infront the cathedral. Excellent choice of breakfast.
Review 76:I LIKED EVERYTHING! PARKING CAN BE A LITTLE TRICKY; BUT ITS WAS NOT A BIG ISSUE. BREAKFAST WAS WONDERFUL. ROOM WAS ONE OF THE BEST WE HAD ON THE TRIP.
Review 77:It was a delight to stay somewhere in such a good location where our dogs were welcome. Lovely big bedroom - plenty of space for our two dogs and us.
Review 78:Nothing
Review 79:Liked everything about this hotel, and it was really excellent value for money. Incidentally we are not a mature couple, but there is no category for a mother and daughter (of 67 and 36 years respectively).
Review 80:Nothing to quote, this hotel was exceptional value in such a quaint city.
Review 81:Great location, helpful staff who pointed us in the right direction for the hotel car park which nestled under the cathedral.
Review 82:confort
Review 83:No parking, no welness, no international tv
Review 84:nice atmosphere, middle of the historice center
Review 85:Location n value for money.
Review 86:Small room and lack of services available (laundry, etc.) for a 4*
Review 87:Location, common areas, breakfast
Review 88:There was No wifi available at the time. If you are from a different country this is required!!
Review 89:Spacious, clean, tidy,

Review 92:Breakfast very good
Review 93:There are no comments available for this review
