Reviews for Parador de Trujillo
Review 1:The breakfast staff required help; two girls was not enough on most mornings, though they worked very hard.
Review 2:Excellent staff who were helpful and very considerate. A beautifully kept parador, quiet and well situated.
Review 3:One waiter was not friendly, or very competent.
Review 4:The superb old convent building. The style of the renovation. The quiet, peaceful patio (without piped music!).
Review 5:The town is beautiful, with wonderful sights to see, and the parador is divine in every way. As older, old-fashioned travellers, we appreciate the elegance and quiet. The courtyard is especially beautiful at night, whether for a drink or a light supper; and the service is impeccable. We hope it will never change!
Review 6:Restaurant and bar prices expensive, especially in comparison to the restaurants a few hundred metres away in the Plaza Mayor
Review 7:The uniqueness of the building. Proximity to the Plaza Mayor.
Review 8:Air conditioning seemed to be turned off at night so we struggled to get a comfortable nights sleep.
Review 9:Good value for money. Easy walk to the middle of town, sights and restaurants
Review 10:The heavy disc on the key. It weights you your bag down. How about a nicely embellished, plastic key tag?
Review 11:We liked the location as it was a short stroll to the square. The pool was a really refreshing option after sightseeing in the hot weather.
Review 12:Lovely location,5 minutes stroll to the Playor Major. Very peaceful hotel with excellent rooms, nice bathroom. Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice. Very good parking facilities too.
Review 13:The property was lovely and the staff very helpful, especially after we had departed and I realized I had left some clothing in the wardrobe. They arranged shipping of the item back to Sydney for me.
Review 14:The Parador is well located in relation to the town centre. The town is charming and laid back. We stayed 2 days which is probably enough for most people. The hotel has a nice historical feel and the room was well appointed.
Review 15:The Restaurant has too much competition to be competitive at a reasonable price and seemed rather cramped and noisy. The Breakfast room is better but too expensive.
Review 16:The location with wonderful views and a perfect position for exploring the historic area of the town
Review 17:WE WISH THEY DIDN'T TUCK THE BEDCLOTHES IN SO TIGHTLY MAKING IT DIFFICULT FOR A COUPLE TO BE TOGRTHER
Review 18:THE OVERALL ATMOSPHERE OF THE CONVERTED CONVENT
Review 19:As we entered Trujillo from the west (EX208) we did not find a single sign pointing to the parador, so we got lost, and at the end we had to ask at the tourist office. How difficult is it to put a few signs up?
Review 20:I liked the new informal restuarant, the beautiful building with the lovely patio and the paradors redefining themselves.
Review 21:We easily found the parador with our rental car and were able to safely park right next to the side of the building so we did not have to pay the hotel's parking fee and could walk to the historical center. Spacious, comfortable room, friendly staff, excellent food.
Review 22:Nothing
Review 23:1. The hotel staff was extremly friendly and professional; 2. The hotel location is very nice, easy to park and easy to walk to the old town; 3. The breakfast of the hotel was very nice; 4. The hotel building itself is an art!
Review 24:Uncomfortable bed Poor soundproofing so could hear other guests snoring and a child crying in 3 rooms down. Wi-fi very poor
Review 25:Location and town. Public spaces looked nice
Review 26:We were disappointed the pool was closed for the season as it was a hot day when we arrived (late October). Also the "air conditioning" did nothing - possibly like the pool it had been switched off with the summer officially over. Fortunately we were able to cool the room via fresh air!
Review 27:Charming, quiet and comfortable room in a gracious building. Wonderful shower and large thick towels. The parador is easy to find and there's plenty of free parking. Excellent location for exploring Trujillo's old town. Excellent wifi. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Review 28:Outstanding room quality and size. Really unique and peaceful setting with a central courtyard for casual dining and separate dinner and breakfast locations in converted areas of the convent. Well worth the visit
Review 29:Using their car park is a bit of a debacle, every time you have ask to be let in and out. They open both gate and garage door at same time, by the time you have negotiated the 1st the 2nd is closing and you have ask them again. All they need is a couple of cameras or to allow your room key card to open the gate and garage. There is no disabled parking and no offer to carry your bags We stayed 3 nights but they would not confirm the twin suite with shower until I suggested we would go else. where.
Review 30:This is a lovely Parador in an old convent. It has been taste fully done. 5 minutes walk to main square where there are loads of bars and restaurants. We had suite/room 101 with twin beds, walk in shower and separate sitting room, very comfortable. As Paradors go this is a better one. Excellent breakfast and good evening meal and these staff were very good compared to reception.
Review 31:not stopping longer
Review 32:We had only booked this Hotel for one night, something we would regret after arriving, Easy to find with very safe and secure parking, Set in an old convent the whole place was very characterful, the rooms were of typical Parador quality, the staff were friendly, The pool was fantastic especially in the August heat, rooms were quiet as the Hotel is in a quiet part of town..The centre of Trujillo was a revelation to us as we had never stopped here before a beautiful town square , with good bars and restaurants /shops.. In the morning the Breakfast was good Another Hotel to visit again
Review 33:The WiFi in the bedroom could have been a bit stronger.
Review 34:I always stay at Paradores Hotels when travelling in Spain or the Canaries. They are excellent value and I have never been let down by them.
Review 35:The dinner wasn't brilliant.
Review 36:The location in the centre of Trujillo - the views from the windows over the rooftops to the central square. This is a beautiful Parador - well kept and full of character.
Review 37:A lovely ,spacious room, good breakfast, helpful staff.
Review 38:location, easy parking, swimming pool
Review 39:Within comfortable driving distance of Guadalupe
Review 40:Beautiful hotel with history & architecture of great interest.Lovely room with great views. Furnishings tastefully done in keeping with building.
Review 41:Beautiful blue swimming pool. Quiet and calm of the hotel itself. Hotel situated a few minutes and a world away from the busy Plaza Major
Review 42:breakfast not good value for money
Review 43:Just amazing overall
Review 44:The aircon was not very good, it got very hot at night
Review 45:The building was magnificent, it oozed character. The proximity to the town was great.
Review 46:Spacious, well-appointed room. Great facilities. Friendly staff
Review 47:Location Pool Room Bed Wifi
Review 48:28° en swimming pool was closed!
Review 49:You need a car to get from the hotel to the city
Review 50:Location and room overlooking the pool
Review 51:Very peaceful. Good staff. Comfortable and spacious room. Pool good. Unfortunately dining room was closed.
Review 52:Wonderful architecture and location
Review 53:Nothing bad about it
Review 54:Quality of accommodation, pleasant staff, good quality of food.
Review 55:Lack of help on arrival.
Review 56:Location.
Review 57:Loved the courtyard area with dozens of birds in the trees. Beautiful atmosphere to the whole place.
Review 58:Beautifully restored old convent, very comfortable rooms, friendly people. Spectacular Trujillo at 5 min. walk.
Review 59:Close to historic centre. All mod cons
Review 60:Main dining room was closed. Just cafeteria open, with limited menu.
Review 61:Location, location, location and a lovely, comfy bed!
Review 62:The staff were so very helpful. We really appreciated their help with an item we had left at the hotel.
Review 63:rien
Review 64:tout
Review 65:The receptionist when we checked in was surly and unhelpful. As was the breakfast staff. Paradores need to improve their staffs' attitude compared with other hotels we stayed in.
Review 66:This was an attractive hotel in a lovely town. They had a lovely swimming pool which we had to ourselves. Good secure parking. Breakfast as always good in Paradors.
Review 67:It would have been nice to have received a more enthusiastic welcome from reception staff.
Review 68:Perfect location. We had a wonderful view over the old town from our window. Excellent facilities. Great historic ambience.
Review 69:This was our last night stop en route from the UK to Southern Spain and it turned to be the best. We loved this Parador for its beautiful building and location overlooking the lovely countryside. We arrived on a hot late afternoon and the swimming pool and terrace was very welcome. Our room was on the top floor off the inner courtyard and was very comfortable and quiet. We ate dinner outside in the courtyard and this was very nice. We can recommend the lamb stew! Parking is free outside the garage area and the only minus is it has to be accessed through the garage and 2 lifts! We will certainly be back.
Review 70:No signs anywhere in the town for the Parador. Had to stop 3 times to ask people for directions. Went unnecessarily down narrow roads because on leaving it was easy to get out via decent roads.
Review 71:We had a superior room with two balconies, fantastic. Lovely building decorated superbly. Garage parking and outside parking available. Short walk to the main plaza.
Review 72:No complaints whatsoever. We stayed here about 20 years ago and fell in love with the Parador and the town. It's still just as nice 20 years on. If you love the old towns of Spain and paracord, you'll certainly enjoy your stay.
Review 73:The Restaurant was closed, presumably as it was out of the summer season when we visited. The swimming pool is also only open in the summer. Didn't particularly like being charged €11 for a Hendricks Gin either!
Review 74:The Parador is an old convent and the cloisters are beautiful. The breakfast room is in what was the chapel of the convent and is lovely.
Review 75:Dinner was a great let down. We have stayed in number of paradores & always had a good quality dinner. This could only be described as very average. It would put me off returning. Having said that the staff were excellent.
Review 76:Superb building & overall set up. Staff excellent. brilliant breakfast
Review 77:Surly desk clerk, most unhelpful. Wifi at parador wasterrible....virtually useless.
Review 78:Beautiful facilities in an old convent, beautifully decorated andrestored.
Review 79:The hotel was only 50% occupied and we went for dinner and asked to be seated in one of the side altars. They said the tables were set for larger numbers and could not seat 2 people there. There were only two other people in for dinner in the whole place we thought it a bit mean and not accommodating. Menu a little restricted and you would have to order a lot of tapas dishes if you were very hungry!
Review 80:Delightful stay in a wonderful setting. Peaceful calming feeling as you walked through the door almost spiritual. Large spacious room excellent bathroom.
Review 81:The bar closes too early (23:00); Do mind your credit-card in the restaurant (:-)
Review 82:Classic; Quality in all the details; Tranquility, Spacious; down-town; historic;
Review 83:Everything was perfect.
Review 84:Excellent location in the old city few steps from the plaza and the church. We just stopped for the night, no great expectations but, it was a marvellous surprise in an ancient monastery/iglesia. Beautifule rooms with antique furniture. All the needed amenities in the room. A nice swimming pool. Beautiful lobby and restaurant, patios. Very good breakfast.
Review 85:One of the nicest paradors we found. Room very good overlooking the lovely pool. Short walk to the main plaza which is stunning. Lots of history and interesting buildings. Very nice bar area. Friendly and efficient.
Review 86:Inability to arrange tour to Monfrague as a single person with no car and not wishing to hire one Poor standard of cooking vegetarian food for evening meal
Review 87:The town The views Seeing White storks on towers Relaxing atmosphere Good service
Review 88:this visit was very disappointing the staff appeared to have suffered a large reduction in numbers, the restaurant (which was excellent)had disappeared and the breakfast area was now the only eating area, menu selection was very bad,I noticed many people left the food.staff worked hard but were not able to cope they all seemed to be doing 2 or 3 jobs at the same time
Review 89:we have stayed here 2 years ago and it was excellent, and was the reason we returned but unlikely to go back next year
Review 90:Can be challenging to navigate streets in this old town. A more accurate map would help.
Review 91:Beautiful setting, very atmospheric. Spacious and comfortable room. Public rooms well appointed. Dining room in former chapel is spectacular. Buffet breakfast has good variety with many regional specialties.
Review 92:Tiled corridors and stone walls echoed noise of suitcases trundling along. Staff very not overly friendly or helpful. Main interior corridors had no ramps and you had to lift up suitcases up several small steps. Dining room in old chapel seemed very austere. Can get noisy with locals staying for Festivals.
Review 93:Spacious rooms, very comfortable beds, soft pillows, views from 3rd floor rooms in old part of building, 5 minute walk into Plaza, wonderful ambiance in hotel with very many nice decorative touches in rooms and public areas. Great value for money.
Review 94:quaint hotel setting in a very quiet town. Solitude, and a break from the more frantic pace of sightseeing in Spain. Two minute walk to the town plaza and reasonable restaurants and peaceful ambiance
Review 95:having no shade in the outside seating area very nicely laid out with comfortable seating, and relaxing, but everyone had to squash in a corner to keep out of the very hot sun. parasols would have been a blessing.
Review 96:Superb hotel very smart in appearance, very clean, staff helpful. shame the pool was not open because it was very hot would have been nice to have a swim, pool not open until 1st June.
Review 97:For the price paid, it was a real disappointment. Maybe it is just because it is low season, but the hotel had no ambience and seemed very sad. While the rooms were large, there was no charm. The food in the cafeteria was awful and quite expensive.
Review 98:The historical aspect of the parador is interesting. Rooms and bathrooms are very spacious. Staff was friendly. Beautiful vieews of the city from the bedroom window.
Review 99:Housemaids having a loud conversation and making noise in the morning, on the room next door. And when we arrived (10.30 pm) we had to carry the bags ouselves, by hand, to the room.
Review 100:All around the architeture is magnificient, except for the room decoration that is poor and desajusted from the rest of the Parador. The staff were friendly.
Review 101:Paradores insist that their guests should sleep in old fashioneduncomfortable beds and sparely equiped rooms. This is an old concept. For the prices that you have to pay at paradores, sleeping comfortablyshould be included.
Review 102:One of the best paradores. Friendly service as well in hotel as inrestaurant. Both dinner and breakfast excellent.
Review 103:The building occupied by the hotel is a marvellous, well preserved and impressive monastery equipped with all the features of a modern hotel for a luxury stay.
Review 104:Difficult to give very high marks in some areas because on the second ofour two-day stay most of the staff were on strike. We still got theexcellent breakfast, but no dinner, and our room was not made up. We hadsome hard negotiating to get our bill reduced to recognise this! Thenight we did have dinner we thought it poor value - in most of Spainrestaurants have recognised economic reality, but Parador meals remaininflexibly expensive, and we ate better elsewhere at half the price.Apart from which the Maitre d' seemed to ensure that all the Spanishguests were served before the English, regardless of when they sat down.
Review 105:This conversion of a monastery/abbey was up to usual Parador standards, which is to say excellent. Well located for the centre of Trujillo. Goodroom, with well equipped bathroom and comfortable bed, though only onechair to sit on. Breakfast really excellent and well worth the money -and the chapel conversion which is the breakfast room is magnificent.Free secure parking, which is an unusual bonus for a Parador.
Review 106:It is a bit of a labyrinth: after putting my car into the (spacious) hotel car-park, I didn't have a clue as to where I needed to go, to get back into the hotel. Also, I didn't feel tempted by the Parador's evening menu. That wasn't a major problem, because, very good restaurants were locally available.
Review 107:Very friendly, helpful staff; comfortable room; secure parking (admittedly, not really necessary in a place like Trujillo); terrific location, close to the Plaza Mayor. I didn't use the restaurant, but the breakfast service was excellent. I think that the price is a real bargain, too.
Review 108:Overpriced mediocre menu, poor cafe/bar which looked more like a canteen than a luxury hotel bar, overpriced breakfast. Hotel appeared almost deserted - 6 people had dinner during our stay, appeared to be a very small number of rooms occupied.
Review 109:NIce location, beautiful building, nice furnishings and fittings. Close to Trujillo old town. Good free parking at the hotel.
Review 110:Lovely old convent with modern but sympathetic extension well sited for the old town. Usual high Parador standard with good but expensive food. Old town well worth a visit - fantastic views from castle and church tower. Easy parking, too. May well return.
Review 111:directions were not accurate on the website and car parking was fiddly.
Review 112:its atmosphere in on old convent was superb.its location in the old town was also super.
Review 113:Friendly and helpful staff. Dining facilities were impressive (breakfastin beautifully converted convent chapel). Fine food. Spacious room withviews over the town. Short walk to fascinating town square andmonuments. In 40 degree temperatures the swimming pool, with attendant, was most welcome. Parking arrangements good - charge for secure garage,no charge for open car-park behind locked gates.
Review 114:Food better than usual for a parador but still not brilliant.
Review 115:All staff very friendly, convenient location, easy to find, nice bigroom, good view from window.
Review 116:There was something a little lacklustre about it; possibly this is to do with the nature of the building, or the time of year - not the height of the season; weather cold and cloudy; or the small number of staff (had to wait a bit for staff to appear in the bar at lunchtime). This didn’t bother me particularly and it is a beautiful and memorable place to stay.
Review 117:The hotel is in the historical centre, very close to the main square. It is in a 14th c. building, a former convent with all that that implies; very elegant rooms on a monumental scale with a tranquil but slightly echoey feel. The main reception, dining and bedrooms are arranged round a glass enclosed cloister filled with orange trees. My bedroom was large, very comfortable, and had a good view over the rooves of the town and the surrounding countryside. Service was cheerful despite the feeling they were short of staff: the same faces seemed to crop up at every meal and in every part of the building. Breakfast is in the former chapel; it's surprising, pretty and slightly chilly in April; a good choice of food.
Review 118:We were given a room on the side of the hotel and our afternoon nap wasdisturbed by workmen and a constantly barking dog. We were woken up atthree in the morning by a party in the room upstairs so it wasn'texactly a relaxing experience. I have stayed in far better paradores.
Review 119:-Pricing of the restaurant was outrageous: Expansive and the quality of the 'special local menu' was really disappointing. (the service of the restaurant personal was good however) -The rooms are very noisy. (since there is no real isolation in these old buildings in combination with heavy doors etc: there is noise all night from your neighbours and people that walk past your room). In our case a couple was having loudly sex next door, which was quite unpleasant i can tell..... -From a Parador we expected more 'luxury'. The rooms are pretty basic and the hotel doesn't really have serious facilities.
Review 120:The buildings of a Parador are usually quite special and so is this one.
