Reviews for Hôtel Saint George
Review 1:Strongly recommend this hotel this couple of host. His welcome is indeed over our expectations, he even helped us make our one-day tourist program for next day. Service and consulting is rather more important then a downtown location. Merci bcq. ^^
Review 2:The neighbourhood is a bit rough.
Review 3:The staff are very friendly and helpfull, the on site parking was handy and reasuring. The wi-fi worked well, the breakfast was good value and good quality. It was as much as you could expect for 2 stars maybe even a little more.
Review 4:The hotel was situated 20 minutes' walk from town, in a dingy neighbourhood, on a tiny street.
Review 5:The proprietor and his wife were very friendly and helpful. The carpark was locked at all times and you were given a key.
Review 6:You need to walk about 10-15 minutes to reach the wall. Not such a big deal, but be aware of this.
Review 7:Very friendly host. He gives you plenty of tips where to eat out and what to see. It's a nice place for what it is and meant to be. Good for a shorter stay.
Review 8:It was a 10 minute walk yo the walled city but we felt safe.
Review 9:The husband and wife owners were excellent. Hugo the owner was very helpful he looked up train info and printed it off for us. Lent umbrellas and recommend excellent restaraunts in town for us. Exceptional value for a two star.
Review 10:We had top leave our previous hotel before 11 and needed a place to park our luggage while sight seeing in Avignon. StTrip has been great. We are now in our last week, Paris. The bike trip was both challenging and fun. We are both thinking we would like to do another. Walked long distances the last two days. Today is Notre Dame and Montmartre. Having fun with Nash and Trish. Nash's boyfriend Eric surprised her: flew in from working the US Open and proposed to her on a bridge over looking the Eiffel. Our St George hostess let us in, and took care of our bags until our room was vacated and then placed or bags in our room for when we returned. She and her husband were both very kind and helpful.
Review 11:Monsieur Leroy was extremely kind to us during our stay. Caring, considerate, warm service adds so much value to a hotel stay. We were travelling by bike through France and we had to send some luggage his way and he was really helpful and willing to store it there for us. His staff also were very caring. The breakfast was abundant. Cheese for the bread. The bedroom was comfortable and had all we needed. The hotel is very clean. His English is better then any staff of any hotel we have been to so far. You can see he and his staff take great pride in the hotel.
Review 12:Poor wifi connection. 15-20 minutes walking distance from the city center. Reception closes early.
Review 13:Very helpful and kind personel. Clean and comfortable room. Excellent for the price.
Review 14:The staff was very helpful with information about the places I wanted to see. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the old part of town. The parking area was very secure
Review 15:A bit of a hike to walk to the walled in city of Avignon (20 mins?). Best bet is to drive all the way around to the other side of the old portion, park and start walking in from there.
Review 16:Awesome owners - very nice and helpful! Breakfast food and area were amazing - not to be missed! Our rooms were great for us and our kids. Always found nearby on-street parking. The Pope's palace and the Roman aquaduct (Pont du gard) is a must see too.
Review 17:Great help on reception - gave all the info about the City and around and even helped Change the reservation☺ Very Clean Good breakfast and nice terace 10min walk from the City walls and 20 min from palace Secured parking!!since We were with motocycle very important Good wifi
Review 18:No complaints
Review 19:Excellent service, reception made me feel comfortable, spoke english and provided maps and suggestions for sightseeing and eating. Secure parking and good wifi.
Review 20:Although the bedding was clean there was tiny garbage on the floor giving the impression that the room was not throughly cleaned. The bathroom is tiny, not ergonomic. The door of the bathroom has big gaps and when used, smell is directly in the room.
Review 21:Our late entrance was properly arranged with a letter and keys in an envelope.
Review 22:Location a good 10 min Walk from the old town, still feasible
Review 23:Very friendly and helpful staff, great Host! Good Price for Avignon Nice breakfast! Simple valuabke rooms
Review 24:A little difficult to find and a little further walking distance from the old city than expected.
Review 25:Great staff, very helpful and spoke English. Excellent and secure off street parking next to the Hotel. Our booking rate was reduced to low season rates because the rate quoted was peak season when we originally booked, this was greatly appreciated as we expected to pay the quoted rate. A good place for a short stay in Avignon. There are shops and local restaurants nearby if needed.
Review 26:Hotel a bit far if you don't like to walk more than 15 mins to central attractions.
Review 27:Very friendly and helpful staff. We received free coffee and scone on our departure day. Very big bathroom and shower.
Review 28:Very helpful and kind staff. Nice room, hotel in quite and calm area. Parking places in nearby streets available, possibility to reserve place in secured yard. Excellent location for exploring nearby area, since main roads easily reached without passing trough Avignon center. Good value for money.
Review 29:Not much if anything.
Review 30:Staff excellent, location quite convenient. Advice very helpful. Breakfast good. Very convenient car-parking. Overall our stay in Avignon was very positive. Taking the scenic tourist route to Sault was exciting to say the least.
Review 31:Bit of a walk into town - okay if young and active but for someone with a bad back and ten year old....
Review 32:Manager was extremely helpful Rooms clean and basic I would stay there again if on a budget
Review 33:Poor facility and low sleep quality. The toilet had yellowish stains when we first entered, though after a few flushes the stains were gone. Flushing the toilet, however, brought a bit of sewage smell. In addition, the toilet room was hot and humid due to a hot water pipe running through it. We are not sure if this pipe is the reason, but somehow the room became quickly hot with windows closed, even in a quite cool night. The room did not have A/C and instead had an electrical fan that was weak and did not help much. Our room faced what seemed to be a bar, where young men would play games and make loud noise well into the night. We had to either open the window and bear the noise, or close it and bear the heat.
Review 34:The chief strength of Hôtel Saint George is its proprietor. He speaks fluent English, asks about guests’ plans and gives timely information, and in general is friendly and helpful.
Review 35:The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and light, and the staff helpful and pleasant. Good bathroom as well.
Review 36:small bed
Review 37:Staff very friendly, of good advice
Review 38:Close to all attractions owners very helpful breakfast very nice ideal location walking distance to main area .
Review 39:The manager was very helpful
Review 40:Basic hotel. Perfect for a one night stay. 15 min walk to old city center
Review 41:No lift.
Review 42:free parking
Review 43:very nice staff.
Review 44:Very kind staff, clean room, god location
Review 45:Staff charming , Breakfast really good , nice room . Secure parking, near city centre.
Review 46:The owner was very forthcoming and friendly. The room was clean (if rather small). Close to the old town.
Review 47:Very kind staff.
Review 48:Nothing
Review 49:We had a lively time in Avignon. Great secure off street parking, staff spoke excellent English, and were very helpful! Breakfast was yummy!
Review 50:The owner is really friendly. Walking distance to center city center. FREE PARKING
Review 51:It's not right in the center of town, but at least the walk in is safe.
Review 52:The man at reception was so helpful and friendly, I'd stay there again just because of that. The room itself was nice and clean. Great value for the money. We didn't have breakfast, so I can't comment on that.
Review 53:the location is apr 10 minutes outside city walls and it didnt't feel really safe during evening. the furniture is a little bit old and same for the bathroom.
Review 54:the staff is really friendly and helpfull.
Review 55:Room was small and shower room tiny with no proper door on it.
Review 56:Walking distance from town (15 minutes)to get to restaurants and main sites. Nice outdoor area for breakfast.
Review 57:The owner was probably the friendliest guy we met in France! Extremely helpful and knowledgable about the area. We had to leave early in the morning and he was there waiting for us with Coffee on our way out!
Review 58:Small and worn out rooms, and we also had ants in our room (they came from the corridor - so the nest was not in the room probably).
Review 59:Very nice and helpful owner.
Review 60:Great family run hotel. Great service: extremely helpful and pleasant guy at the reception, he made our stay just perfect! Rooms are simple and clean, packed with all necessary things, cleaned daily. 10 mins away from the old town. Make sure u visit the restaurant called #45 right next to the entrance of the Wall. The receptionist advised and he was 100000% right, helped to make a reservation!
Review 61:Owners very helpful and friendly. Breakfast good. Gave good advice for where to visit in the local area. Let us park our car in a secure parking area next to the hotel. Did a great job with our laundry for a very reasonable price.
Review 62:Neighbours (bar next door) could be a bit noisy if the window is open.
Review 63:Helpful and friendly owner. Good location if you are prepared to walk 10 minutes to the old part of town.
Review 64:The hotel's neighborhood is not what you expect going to Avignon. It's a very workers' class/ industrial area which could be noisy at times. The rooms don't have air-condition but we didn't find it a problem during our stay in early May.
Review 65:The friendliness and assistance of the hotel's manager, the good value of the breakfast even though eggs aren't included, the accomodation for 3 or 4 people is made of 2 separate rooms with a toilet and a shower for each. It's a good low-budget hotel in its 2 star category. There is a gated free parking space which you should ask for in advance.
Review 66:Great staff - friendly and very helpful. Comfortable bed - delicious ample breakfast. Location was a little out of the way but walk-able distance. Not the greatest neighbourhood but busy enough street that it felt safe.
Review 67:Nothing to dislike
Review 68:Staff could not have been more helpful and gave us lots of tips as to where to avoid eating ( of tew tourist trail) and the best places to experience. Also great advice for where to see outside the city. Great breakfast too.
Review 69:Hotel has official rating of 2 stars but indeed it should have 4 as I spent time in hotels of 4 stars which did not have such comfort and cleaness as Hotel St.Georges. Rooms are specious and clean. Beds are comfortable. Stuff at reception desk is incredibly kind and helpfull. It's located in very quite surrounding. Parking space is guaranteed for guests against the payment. Overall we were very very satisfied with our stay in this hotel. Hotel is example how with consistent care for hotel and guests you can leverage rating. of your hotel. Well done!
Review 70:Reception remains closed between 12:30 and 16:00 which is a usual timefor a guest to arrive for check in. For 2 hours couldn't check inand when made it, and told them about that , they said why didn'tring the bell, although next to the bell was this announcement! Strangedoor for the bathroom with not much privacy. Not good ventilation in theroom. Strange smell in the corridor. No fridge in the room.
Review 71:Parking, reachable by walking to the center.
Review 72:The staff was very friendly, willing to help in every aspect we asked for. Breakfast was very good. The parking lot is next to the hotel, not visible from the road and free of charge. The city centre is in walking distance. The hotel is simple but really great value for the price they ask. I will definitely stay there again next time I visit Avignon.
Review 73:Bathroom a little bit small and updated.
Review 74:The staff were very friendly and helpful. They made us feel at home. A big plus: The staff speak English. The price was excellent and the breakfast was very good.
Review 75:Leaving.
Review 76:We had a wonderful stay at this hotel, due largely to the help and friendliness of Hugues and his wife, who are kind and generous hosts. Since there is much more to do in Provence than just Avignon centre, we found staying outside the city walls an advantage. The Continental breakfast is the best value and most comprehensive we have experienced in France.
The concierge was incredibly helpful and nice! He helped us a lot with finding a good restaurant for dinner and with getting the most out of our stay in Avignon. The hotel was comfortable, well located, and safe. Thank you for a good visit!
Review 78:Driving in and out of the Avignon city walls was somewhat confusing for us
Review 79:The owner of the hotel was very attentive to all our requests, made a number of suggestions for our travels and made us feel very much at home. Breakfast was excellent. We even had our croissants from breakfast packed for our "gouter" (morning tea). He made sure that our car was safe and parked in the hotel car park at no extra cost
Review 80:Friendly welcome, helpful with advice and directions. Handy to have a locked car park on site as I was carrying loads of gear and wanted to leave it in the car, without worrying. Parking in Avignon can be a pain. Lovely family run hotel, made the stay in Avignon a pleasure, so I came back for more nights. :)
Review 81:location was not that central. You need half an hour to reach the Popes palace. Nice bars though on a street nearby, upon entering the city walls.
Review 82:Friendly staff, comfortable and clean room.
Review 83:Very far away from city center, very poor facilities, was very expensive during festival. Bathrooms are so small, that you always bump into smth.
Review 84:Nice terrace for breakfast, good variety for breakfast
Review 85:The Manager and his wife were very welcoming and very helpful. The hotel was very clean and peaceful and had all I required. The bed was comfortable and the room pleasant. Good place to relax after a busy day sightseeing.
Review 86:This hotel was great. It is very clean and and a reasonable walk from the train station and old town. The owners went above and beyond to make my stay comfortable. They gave me great pointers on the town and local spots. They are a fairly new hotel and they will bend over backwards to meet/exceed your expectations.
Review 87:The hotel managers were wonderful, helpful and friendly. Great breakfast in fresh courtyard area. We had the air conditioned too but didn't need to use it, just opened the windows out to the courtyard. Room and bathroom was small but contained everything you need at a great price. About 15 minute walk to restaurants in the city walls.
Review 88:The location is not the best. It is a 15-20 min walk to the city wall, so if you are planning to go to the pope's palace or the half bridge, it will take at least half an hour.
Review 89:Super friendly staff, very clean room, budget-friendly, climatisation.
Review 90:Hotel was a bit tricky to find but that was our fault, the owner was very helpful and have us directions to the sites and restaurants around the city. Room was very clean and modern. Would highly reccomend this hotel for the price!
Review 91:Overpriced compared to other hotels in same range Bathroom too small soshower too small, toilet too close to wall This hotel would look muchbetter if repainted & fixed up
Review 92:Not too far out of town
Review 93:External appearance not overly impressive. (Interior simple but of decent quality)
Review 94:The friendliness and helpfulness of the owners/managers who went out of their way to be of assistance if help asked for. Also useful adjacent secure parking
Review 95:Although the distance to the town and station was walkable, the hotel was not in an area that seemed safe after dark. There were few choices for eating nearby.
Review 96:Pleasant staff
Review 97:The breakfast wasn't great and didn't represent good value for money. €7 per person for bread, a croissant and some coffee seemed a little excessive.
Review 98:Friendly, well-priced, comfortable. The location actually turned out not to be a problem thanks to Velopop' - Avignon's bike hire scheme (like Velib' in Paris or the Barclays bikes in London). There's a rental station (Rotondes) about 2 minutes' walk from the hotel, from where it's less than a 5 minute cycle to the heart of the city. And the daily cost is just €1.
Review 99:- The check-in opened only at 16:00. We arrived earlier and had to wait. - Expensive for what it is, the location and facilities. - No air conditioning (but hardly to expect in this type of hotel).
Review 100:Too far out of the centre of town unless you don't mind a long walk in the hot summer weather. Not much nearby in terms of nice restaurants so you need to plan on going into town to eat. Private parking is €5 and they even charged me €1:50 to park my bicycle - the first time that has happened in a month of cycling in France. Reception only open limited hours. Not even a bottle of water provided in the room. No elevator. Dingy room in need of a refresh. Tiny, tiny sink in the bathroom with a shelf placed in exactly the right place to bang your head. No air conditioning, although none is advertised. The room was stifling hot at the end of July and the pathetic fan provided was useless. Signs in the room forbidding smoking are fine, but also forbidding eating and the consumption of alcohol. Signs in the bathroom with the usual plea about towel use and the environment, but also asking you not to leave electronic devices on charge over night, really! And then providing disposable plastic cups wrapped in plastic? TV - French TV is fine, but this is a major tourist destination. Would it really be so expensive to provide maybe a single English, German and Spanish channel? Oh ... And the price €109. Supply and demand sure ... but way too expensive for what it is.
Review 101:Reception did open especially for me and my room was ready earlier than the normal check-in time. Good advice on restaurants. Clean room and comfortable bed. Locked parking area. Shuttered windows opened onto a beautiful plane tree, allowing a little fresh air. Breakfast was pleasant in the hotel's small courtyard.
Review 102:it's a wonderful place.it's clean. The assistants are really helpful. It's not that far away from the downtown of avignon. It's a nice choice to stay in there. The breakfast is good too.
Review 103:The first thing I noticed after I had unpacked was that there was a signsaying guests were not permitted to eat any food, drink any alcohol orsmoke in the room. The ‘Non-smoking’ restriction is not uncommon inhotels and understandable and it did not surprise me.But the ‘No alcohol’ and ‘No food’ restriction did surprised me! I sometimes enjoy a glass of wine before I head out to dinner and I did not recall these two prohibitions as being a ‘hotel policy’ when I made my booking. I subsequently checked out the Booking.com site and there is no mention of this hotel policy. So don’t come here if you want to drink any alcohol or eat anything in your room!Unfortunately I did not realise how far the hotel was from the Palace of the Popes, the main tourist site in Avignon. While the hotel was only 900 met from the city walls, it was over 2.2 km (35 min +) walking from the Palace of the Popes (about 3 km by car). So if you have a car/bike, no problem assuming you can find parking in Avignon. But if you are walking, it is quite a distance, especially as the local area is devoid of eating places or even a coffee shop. So you will need to find somewhere in town to eat at night.I discovered that the Avignon mosquitoes are ferocious! There was a plug in ‘electric’ mosquito repellent in the room, but I found to my dismay the liquid was empty when I came to need it after I had gone to bed on the first night. I mentioned this the following day to the management and they refilled it and it worked. If you decide to stay her, you may want to bring some mosquito spray. The room was quite basic: it was not even furnished with bedside tables. The shower head had no fitting to hold it to the wall, which made showering awkward. Also, the rubbish was not emptied when the bed was made the second day. In addition, the sound proofing was not good: I could hear fellow guests move about in their adjacent rooms.
Review 104:The bed was quite comfortable and there was a pleasant breeze in myroom. That was good as it was quite hot and there was no fan.
Review 105:Basin of shower not quite clean; slight smell of sewage from electric toilet. These small faults would not prevent me from gladly staying here again.
Review 106:Clean, quiet, not overly cramped room; run by friendly and helpful couple. Free internet (wi-fi) works fine. A bit of a walk from the centre of Avignon, but bus service every 15-20 minutes or so (except Sunday) to/from nearby "Rotondes" stop, which is OK once you have noted the bus schedule at the stops. Even if you are coming by car, print out a map of Avignon's bus network from the internet before leaving home so you can ride the bus into the dense city center instead of driving or walking.
Review 107:Small rom a bit worn out. But look at the price, what to complain?
Review 108:The staff left key on reception desk due to late arrival. Nothing can bebetter than a hot bath after a 7 hrs long drive. Off street parking, free. Breackfast is simple but awaits for me on table in the morningwarm sunshine.
Review 109:A bit far from the city center, about 15 minutes walk to the wall and 30minutes walk to the Central Station. The bathroom smells not so good andthe toilet was noisy when flush.
Review 110:Nice room, helpful staff, free wifi, a bit far from the city centre butstill can be connected by bus #3
Review 111:The only minor thing is that the rooms are not very soundproof, so you could here noises, even talks from room upstairs (we were staying on the first floor). Maybe if you ask for a room in another floor it will be much better.
Review 112:Very nice room, spacious, bright and clean. Moreover, the hotel was in a very quiet location, so no noises from outside. The hotel, although not in the center of Avignon, it is next to a Velopop station (station with bikes to rent), and I recommend tourists to subscribe for 1 week (it's 5 euros) cause It makes life much easier.
Review 113:Free wifi is a scam: rarely works, most of the time you spend watching commercials without being granted internet access.
Review 114:Private car park
Review 115:Staff are really kind and warm-hearted
Review 116:Hotel staff is very nice and helpful. Price is reasonable
Review 117:Amazingly helpful and friendly staff. We had a great stay.
