Reviews for Parador de León

Review 1:Not a bad experience but I will pay extra to stay in a suite in the old part. You will feel like a King (and Queen)!

Review 2:Like several other places we spent the night in Spain why would you stay somewhere else? Stayed here at least 4 times in the past 10 years and will not stay nowhere else.

Review 3:As we approached on the car, one of my friends asked, joking 'Are we staying there?' When I answered 'Yes' his jaw dropped. The building has such history and is so spectacular that guided tours are available to the guests!

Review 4:Clean but carpet needs to be changed as too old. Internet doesn't work well. Food was served really cold in the restaurant.

Review 5:Wonderfull structure - big room

Review 6:Would have been nice if there was tea or coffee in the room.

Review 7:Food was excellent though, as was the service and sensory experience. Need more than one night to appreciate all it has to offer

Review 8:The room had a view to the back and parking. Not a nice view.

Review 9:Good location, quiet, near the river with a beautiful promenade, on the way of pilgrims. You're sleeping in "history" but in spacious and comfortable room. Continental breakfast with many options.

Review 10:It's not a business place. Facilities are not design for business or modern requires.

Review 11:Es un sitio único. Realmente especial. Darse un paseo por el claustro merece la pena. Restaurante excepcional | This is a unique place. You feel the history of the place walking over the building. Its really special. Exceptional restaurant

Review 12:It took too long to check in and staff were not particularly welcoming.

Review 13:Completely awesome breakfast. Beautiful and classy decor, comfortable room, bed, everything was great and reasonably priced.

Review 14:The single bed I slept in was comfortable, but not *that* awesome place where you just want to let yourself fall at the end of the day.

Review 15:The building and its facilities is beautiful. The whole ambience is wonderful. The city is not that big, so the place is within walking distance from just about everything.

Review 16:Rather aged rooms, bathrooms need refurbishment, rather rudish concierge

Review 17:Grand location, wondeful entrance hall, VERY friendly receptionist, greta breakfast

Review 18:I couldn't use wifi at all. We had booked suite room. The two light bulbs of living room were burned out. I complained it to the staff and asked to change the bulbs asap. After that they changed the bulbs and it had been fixed. I could see a stain of water drops on the boxes of bath amenities. I felt it had not been change to new one for a long time.

Review 19:Great exterior and interior. Breakfast was tasty.

Review 20:A minor nuisance is that there is only one position at the reception desk. WIFI signal was very weak in our room

Review 21:The restaurants. Very wide variety of foods for breakfast, and the main restaurant provided excellent food and service for our dinner. Extra plus for half portions of most dishes, also the starters

Review 22:The guidance brochure round the old monastery is about as complicated as it can be and not helped by the miniscule numbers (white on light blue) that can't be read in the dim light.

Review 23:The location is superb abd the reception was too. Excellent cuisine and gracious service.

Review 24:expensive restaurants in hotel forced us to outside for every meal...they should set up something less formal for the average traveler.

Review 25:beautiful hotel...a little far from everything

Review 26:Nothing

Review 27:Wonderful atmosphere. Loved being in a room in the old part. We enjoyed the tour but needed to brush up on our Spanish to have made the most of it!

Review 28:Everything was excellent!

Review 29:The decor of the Parador was fabulous! We really felt like we were actually experiencing staying in a castle! The staff were super busy with wedding receptions however they did not let that stop them from attending to our needs. They went way out of their way to ensure our comfort and satisfaction!

Review 30:Some of the restaurant staff let the rest of the team down with a grumpy and surly demeanour The hotel lacked some of the detail which is expected of 5 star hotels

Review 31:The reception team were very helpful especially Pablo from Galicia

Review 32:The restaurant was particularly excellent. We were very impressed with the efficiency of the staff and with the care they took. Everything ran with extraordinary smoothness.

Review 33:We got food poisoning and, although we asked, unfortunately, the hotel can not provide a special food (like an apple or a baked potato) to help us to recovery.

Review 34:Historic building, beautiful, with great facilities.

Review 35:There is none

Review 36:Where do you start, it is magnificent, the building, location, everything, you are in another world but at an unbelievable budget price, the breakfast was 5 star

Review 37:No CCTV in the car park and our friends expensive sports car was left with severe paint damage to the rear end with no one admitting responsibility

Review 38:Steeped in history. Fantastic place to stay and right in the centre of Leon

Review 39:Needed a taxi to Plaza Major in the evening. Although hotel ordered and arrived promptly. Breakfast a nightmare - too many people and not enough food or plates. Better to go really early or really late. Awful experience.

Review 40:Stunning building, free car park, big room. Nice cafe across the square from hotel.

Review 41:Reception was slow and often missing. Evening main Restaurant Manager was rude and looked down his nose to us as though we were dirt. Disappointing main course very tasty pork accompanied by a sliver of pear. No vegetables, no potatoes, no vitamins.

Review 42:Amazing historic building near to the centre of a character city. Lovely large room, very clean and firm comfortable bed. Quiet at nigh so we had good nights sleep. Two hand basins one bidet, one powerful shower, one deep bath, one piece of soap. Bountiful breakfasts, though no spoons

Review 43:Location not central for restaurants, sightseeing, etc. Front desk staff not very informative or welcoming.

Review 44:Beautiful building rich in history, elegant public/private rooms and furnishings, great breakfasts, free parking!

Review 45:It was about 25 minutes walk to the old town, fine for us but might surprise some people. The majority of the bedrooms are in a non-historical extension.

Review 46:An exceptionally beautiful building; particularly the facade & cloisters. Extensive & informative notices, in English, about the history of the building were displayed around the cloisters - very interesting. A really interesting place to stay. Good breakfast included in the price, easy [and free] parking.

Review 47:Sometimes staff were kind other times inattentive. I wasn't sure if the fact i was scruffy and grubby on arrival contributed. I would have liked a bath robe in a 5* eatablishment. Also the food was ok, but not great.,

Review 48:Fabulous historic building and lovely break from Camino.

Review 49:San Marcos Parador is beautiful, loved the tour and learning about the history. Our room was very comfortable with a view of the garden. The location is perfect, not far to center of town. Would return her in a minute.

Review 50:Not much. I stayed an extra nice and had to move to a not as great room but it was still more than adequate and they were fantastic to be able to accommodate me. This is a great property.

Review 51:Top notch property. Great for peregrinos, tourists, or business travelers.

Review 52:The room was nice but given the history and price expected a little more. Our window didn't open. We got hit with a breakfast charge that we didn't want. Given we were walking the camino we left before they opened breakfast but insisted on keeping the charge of E21. To compensate they had a Nescafé machine available and some rolls. Not 21 euro worth.

Review 53:The history and architecture are simply stunning. Location to the camino de Santiago was great. Services offered are nice but you have to stay more than a night to take advantage.

Review 54:Wi fi wasn't working when we were there which was inconvenient. However, the reception staff were very helpful in printing out directions for us for travelling to our next hotel.

Review 55:Really historic building to stay in. Good location.

Review 56:i did not enjoy my dinner in the restaurant. The place was busy, the waiters were rushing. I did not get attention to my vegetarian request.

Review 57:Location, friendly staff, very good massage at the Musk Beauty Salon

Review 58:Like staying in a museum, actually it is a museum! It was easy to follow the GPS to get there and the parking was a real bonus. The facility is amazing and you should definitely do the tour that they offer each day. It was conducted in Spanish, which meant I only caught parts of what she way saying but it did get you into parts of the building you wouldn't see otherwise so it's worth it to tag along even if you don't understand Spanish. Our room was in the new section and very, very nice. Breakfast was included and was extremely good and well organized. The hotel was a bit of a hike to the cathedral and other locations. It was walkable but when we were there it was rainy, windy, and chilly and it was just a bit too far to be comfortable from many of the sights. There isn't much nearby, even for a quick drink or coffee.

Review 59:Feel the staff could use more training. At a five star hotel would have expected that delayed luggage be brought to room. Receptionist hardly spoke any English.

Review 60:The sense of history in the amazing building

Review 61:The immediate area is a little short on restaurants/bars etc but its only 15 minute walk max to the thick of things in the old town.

Review 62:The parador itself is an amazing place to stay. Really friendly staff and an overall great experience

Review 63:The old part of the hotel was beautiful and it was lovely to wander around this historic building and museum. We stayed in a standard room which was in a new block, and although it was perfectly comfortable, it lacked the charm of the rest of the hotel which was a bit disappointing. The hotel is slightly out of the centre of Leon, but within walking distance

Review 64:Fabulous historical building, and large and comfortable room. A guided visit in the building is offered to all guests. The location is excellent, a ten minutes walk from the cathedral. Fantastic breakfast.

Review 65:Evening meal not as good as expected, Breakfast dire with offered pot of coffee never arriving and both coffee machines suffering from breakdowns.

Review 66:Comfy room and fabulous location.

Review 67:Do not go on a Friday or Saturday. They host too many groups and weddings closing off a lot of the Parador to guests, makes bar and restaurant service poor w the overload. Also very noisy in hotel and late comers to their rooms

Review 68:Serene location just 10 min walk to cathedral and main plaza. Fabulous breakfast! True sense of living in history. Room very spacious. Balcony w table and chairs over beautiful garden.

Review 69:The rear of the building is really disappointing. The building is 'modern' but greatly in need of modernising. It is a 1980's nightmare and the shower was not working very well at all. The room smelt of stale tobacco from the days when smoking was allowed and looked out over the car park despite us booking a room with terrace!

Review 70:The exterior of the building is stunning as is the main interior. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 71:The actual rooms are housed in a part of the hotel built later and not in the historic part of the building.

Review 72:This hotel is well situated in Leon and close to all amenities. The old part of the hotel is magnificent and the history of the building is well explained. The breakfast was lovely as is well worth paying the extra for.

Review 73:Check-in took 25 minutes - only one person and the system seemed incredibly antiquated. Dinner and breakfast queues also a problem even if you have booked dinner

Review 74:Wonderful building, food good considering the numbers involved

Review 75:It was difficult to find access to the hotel by car on arrival - signing could be better. Some hotel guests seemed very snobbish.

Review 76:The history of the building with its guided tour and excellent period furnishings. The staff at reception were very helpful especially one of the porters who gave us excellent directions on how to leave the hotel/city by car. Good quality breakfast.

Review 77:no bad experience at all, except maybe that the hotel lacks a swimming pool; one would expect that a hotel of this stature includes an outdoor pool. There seems to be ample space for that on the surrounding grounds.

Review 78:Historical building, spacious rooms, centrally located in the city

Review 79:Tourists desiring to see the attractions in Leon should realize that this parador is not centrally located. Wear comfortable walking shoes or take a taxi to the Cathedral.

Review 80:everthing was marvelous.

Review 81:there were two weddings at the hotel where the reception and music carried on until 5am the next morning - as a curtesy and out of respect to other guests this could have been pointed out on arrival - we would have stayed elsewhere - the staff on reception didnt care at all when we complained

Review 82:location good - a very beautiful building a littler further from the old quarter than expected

Review 83:Minor thing, but it's a long way to carry luggage from the car park. Would've been good to be able to drop off at the rear entrance to the hotel before parking.

Review 84:Amazing surroundings. Proximity to town centre. Lovely breakfast.

Review 85:one slightly stroppy waitress. The waiters were perfect. Go figure !!

Review 86:Stunning building, very grand. Lots of large lounge and reading rooms for guests. Good value. Secure parking. Good breakfast choice.

Review 87:We thought we were staying in the original part of Paradore . Didn't know there was a new part. That was the reason we stayed there. However room was still lovely and they tried to make it like the original

Review 88:Breakfast fabulous. Not really sure about location as only there 1 night

Review 89:Rooms in serious need of update. Especially the bed.

Review 90:Beautiful building and unique grounds. Amazing to just wonder around and explore the history of this incredible building.

Review 91:We booked a suite and had a wonderful view of the square - worth the extra money very comfortable and meant we stayed in the old part of the building - very happy and very enjoyable stay would go back again

Review 92:- limited choice on dinner menu

Review 93:- location in the centre of the city - relaxed ambience in the hotel - good service of staff - well maintained buildings, gardens - nice museum for guests only

Review 94:The wifi signal is not always present in the rooms; but when this was reported to the reception, the staff fixed the problem immediately.

Review 95:The location and facilities were very good. The service was excellent and prompt: when I encountered problems with the wifi in the room, the staff immediately brought me a personal router, solving the problem. The lady at the reception desk went above and beyond in her help - well done!

Review 96:The restaurant was a lovely area, with good service, but compared to other restaurants in Leon a touch pricey. The reception staff had limited English and were not particularly forthcoming (but not unfriendly), whereas the cleaners and other staff always had a smile and a friendly greeting.

Review 97:A truly stunning and beautiful building, which you are free to explore, with many interesting areas - ask at reception for the tour brochure as you are not given it. on arrival The bar terrace is lovely. Our room in the 1960s annex was large and comfortable, and had a balcony. The parking area at the rear of the building is very convenient and free. The walk from the parador to the edge of the old quarter takes about 10 minutes, but if you need it there are 2 convenient underground car parks on the edge.

Review 98:The 'new' wing of the hotel is not so beautiful. Good rooms but obviously built a while ago and not in keeping with the main building.

Review 99:The most beautiful building, centrally located.

Review 100:See above

Review 101:Staff at breakfast (one of them) grunted at me and frowned when I asked where something was Room cleanliness a little below 5 star standards. Mildew in the shower and lots of fluff - more than in my house under the radiator.

Review 102:The air conditioning (Room 303) flowed directly onto the bed, making it uncomfortably cold on one's head. Had to get up during the night and remake the bed, reversing head and foot.

Review 103:Breakfast buffet Wonderful building Easy walk to old town and cathedral

Review 104:The check in desk is to small and poorly staffed for the number of guests coming and going. The bedrooms although comfortable and large are a little tired and the terrace was in a poor state.

Review 105:The entrance and the general areas are excellent with a terrific historic charm . Lunch was one of the best we have had, really 5 star.

Review 106:Living in the lap of luxury, close to the sights of Leon was great. Such a beautiful hotel with helpful staff and good amenities makes life very relaxing.

Review 107:The parador hosts parties with loud music till after midnight. Staff doesn't do anything about it. Because of the very loud music we couldn't sleep and tried to call reception. They answered only after more than 10 minutes. Staff was very unfriendly! Our room was not in the old part but in the new.

Review 108:Great building, good location.

Review 109:The building is fabulous ... if one likes to stay in a palace / museum. The location, although requiring 15 min walk to the center, was great as the hotel offers free parking. The breakfast was amazing. And the staff in the breakfast room very efficient and friendly.

Review 110:The room could have been nicer. The reception staff needs to be much friendlier to be considered 4 or 5 star.

Review 111:The breakfast and food in general was great.

Review 112:Occasional queues to obtain information from desks.

Review 113:Beautiful building and setting. We were in the old part of the Parador, overlooking the river, which was ideal. Very helpful staff. Within easy walking distance of main historic sites.

Review 114:Luxury luxury luxury.. Stayed here as a treat whilst walking the Camino de Santiago.. Beds fantastic.. Food drinks and service exceptional.. Got a fantastic one night deal through Booking.com.. Will be back

Review 115:Some reception staff were unfriendly. All other staff were pleasant and quite friendly. However, we would definitely go back..

Review 116:We had a very quiet room and slept very well. Breakfast was EXCELLENT

Review 117:Nothing negative at all!

Review 118:Wonderfully situated, it's a palace in its own right too. Close to all the major sights. The staff are expertly trained, helpful and professional. Rooms are large (ask to view the gardens, not the parking lot). The restaurant is fabulous and service is fantastic.

Review 119:Fabulous building, we had a lovely time wandering around looking at the building. Dinner in the evening was excellent. Staff very helpful and attentive.

Review 120:Dinner - the worst experience through 8 weeks of travel in France, Spain & Portugal. 25 minute wait for menu/drinks. Poor quality lamb dish. Maitre D. needs a course on customer service.

Review 121:A magnificent building, generally good service with great breakfast.

Review 122:I loved this hotel. I stayed here for two nights letting my blisters from the Camino de Santiago heal some before resuming my walk. A great historic building with amenities to boot. Staff was fantastic, my room well appointed and the restaurant was the best I had while in Spain.

Review 123:This is arguably the most splendid of all Paradores and it's almost worth the charges just to arrive at this marvellous 16th century palace as a guest. Slightly less formal than some Paradores this made for a warm welcome and gods service throughout. Slightly out of the centre it's located beside a river walk and 20 mins from the old quarter.

Review 124:The member of staff which checked us in was not very friendly but rather arrogant and unpleasant to deal with. It seemed to be a general attitude than a personal issue.

Review 125:Impressive enty hall, rather big parking space, room had a balkony with view to a small garden, beautiful building with a church, cross-coat and in general very friendly staff.

Review 126:Receptionist could have been a little more friendly but I'm being too picky.

Review 127:The most beautiful & atmospheric hotel, almost like staying at Canterbury Cathedral but in a quiet location.Covered parking, 3 mins walk to the shops & Franco + King/Queen have stayed here.

Review 128:Wonderful historic building. Rooms in annexe at the back are very comfortable. Private car park close to the hotel. Breakfast absolutely top class. Perfect for a stay on the way to Santander ferry crossing.

Review 129:There isn't any metro and it wasn't clear any buses stop near there so you needed to walk quite a ways to old cathedrals and residences..

Review 130:The size and design is like being in a palace. It is attached to the church with a very interesting history.. Really an awesome place.

Review 131:This is the most fantastic old building with great public areas. It is a privilege to stay in it. It is located near to the old centre and yet just sitting in the old cloister of the hotel you are experiencing something that is worth an entrance fee. Our room was in the integrated new part but in no way separate to the fantastic building. The whole place has been furnished and decorated with great integrity. Modern comforts in an amazing setting.

Review 132:Sadly, there was a very creepy vibe about the place. Is the place haunted? After staying the night, we felt there was something off like the hotel in "The Shining." I wish I had done some historical research before booking. There were clothes from the previous customers in the room and trash underneath the bed. I struggle writing this because the hotel had its charm, but at twice the cost of the other hotels we stayed in during our trip to Spain it was not what we expected.

Review 133:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The library and chapel were beautiful.

Review 134:There was the rather strong door of seafood upon entering the lobby. We arrived during a wedding reception, so we assumed that this smell emanated from the food that was served. Unfortunately, the stench remained throughout our 2-day stay.

Review 135:The breakfast selection was quite complete and of good quality. The amenities (in the room) were quite good.

The Fine Print
