Reviews for Hotel Plaza Grande
Review 1:The bedroom was in total darkness and lights full on at all times were necessary as there was no natural light or outlook. No one spoke a word of English and the instructions to find the secure parking impossible to follow. An information sheet in English and a small diagram would have achieved the result satisfactorily, we had to find our own public parking. Overall disappointing as a result.
Review 2:The restaurant was excellent lovely warm ambiance and decor, and the food also very good. The picturesque square where the the hotel stood was old and traditional.
Review 3:The reception doesn't seem to be staffed so you have to ring the special bell for one of the bar/restaurant waiters to come and check you in and out. We had to ask at the bar how we could check-in as it wasn't all that obvious. We found this a bit confusing and inconvenient. The walls between the rooms seemed very thin as we could hear every word of our next door neighbours including bathroom noises. Not great for a restful nights sleep. Perhaps we should've requested a quite room but who knows if such a room exists. Luckily we only stayed one night. Due to the location it is not possible to park for free right next to the hotel, it could be an issue for some if you want to keep an eye on your car.
Review 4:Nice hotel with a bar & restaurant downstairs serving tasty food (we only tried tapas). Our room was specious and clean, nice décor. Very good location in the centre of old town.
Review 5:No English spoken at all, difficult to communicate.
Review 6:Nice location. Attractive room, comfortable beds, nice bathroom. Good food in attractive restaurant and breakfast room. Very good value for money.
Review 7:Brilliant little Hotel situated right in the Town square. The place to be if you want to sample the typical Spanish way of life. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The bar area was great and the food was fantastic. We were given half board status. The evening meal and breakfast were both plentiful and of a very high standard. Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay.
Review 8:Air con in one of our two rooms was a little unreliable and we got 100 euro parking ticket in square as a result of not understanding hotel manager's instructions.
Review 9:Characterful small hotel in a wonderful location right on the main square of this pretty town. Restaurant very popular with locals but we struggled as didn't have menu translator.
Review 10:To have to go home!
Review 11:Excellent restaurant and equally good bar food for those wanting a less formal meal. The menu del dia is good value, with an unexpected attention to presentation which we found pleasing.
Review 12:The hotel is well maintained and smelled very nice! Our room had a balcony overlooking the square; there was everything we needed in the room, we only had to get the hairdryer from the reception. Staff was friendly and professional. We didn't try the restaurant but the tapas in the hotel bar were one of our best meals in Spain!
Review 13:The only thing was the negative comments of other travellers. It'sreally unfair. For the price this is a jewel and should be highlypraised. Try it--you won't be disappointed.
Review 14:The location is great--right in the historic heart of the very prettytown. The food in the restaurant downstairs is excellent. The breakfastincluded was perfectly adequate--a buffet which had juice, fresh fruit, cereal, bread, al sorts of other stuff as well.
Review 15:No problems whatsoever.
Review 16:The hotel was very comfortable, and everything was in excellent working order. The staff were friendly, and the restaurant had fine food. It was a great deal.
Review 17:Noisy rooms, lots of doors banging all night.
Review 18:Cleanliness and friendly atmosphere. We chose he half board option which was good value for money but in hindsight if were staying again we would choose the al a carte menu, as we have eaten in this hotel before and had an excellent meal.
Review 19:location is superb, the room was small but perfect for winter heating (aircon), wi-fi ok, extremely cheap and good value. the restaurant is michelin standard, so you pay a little more but you get really more. same for tapas in bar. high quality- the town is really nice and ooo the beaten track. a must.
Review 20:Rather overpowering scent in room - not sure where it came from, maybe the pot pourri on the landing. For breakfast I was not offered any choice or told what I could have. I asked for tea and asked if there was a madalena or something to eat and told there was just a tostada - which was very nice (good bread), but I did think I might be offered orange juice as well. Maybe I could have requested it, but it was not mentioned at all and I did not know what I was allowed under the half board arrangement, which is why I suggest it should be written down so you know what to expect. Next time I will ask.
Review 21:Hotel & room decor attractive & good atmosphere in bar area. Food very good. As on half board it would have been good to be able to see the menu choice written down.
Review 22:Its ok for a 1 night stay,it was a stop off on the way from Portugal but a good 10ks off main route,Breakfast not up to much, and the 10 percent discount off your car if it gets towed away advertised at the reception says it all really, its a pity they dont have their menu or other useful information, stayed in room 208 and its very small with low windows but on the plus side looking over the square, roads being dug up make it difficult to get in or out of the main area , walls very thin could here tv and snoring.
Review 23:Nothing I can say, it was a pleasent experience.
Review 24:The parking was easy and close to the Hotel. A lovely square to walk at night. It was my second stay at this Hotel. My 1st stop over was on my way to 'Vejer' The staff were very pleasent on both occasions. I would recommend The Hotel Plaza Grande to friends/Family.
Review 25:The dinner menu for half board was very restricted and not the best ingredients with cardboard carton of icecream or three small slices of tinned pineapple for desert. The same with the limited "cash and carry" breakfast - everything pre-packed. They can produce high quality food here on the a la carte menu but are too concerbed to cut costs to keep the published half board prices low.
Review 26:Good location on corner of the plaza. Clean and simple accommodation. Pleasant dining room
Review 27:Can be noisy at night because of the location.....but that's what you go for isn't it? When in Rome etc. just stay up late and catch up with your sleep the next day after lunch!
Review 28:The location is very good, on the attractive main square with access to good bars and restaurants . Exceptional value for money. Free dish of jamon and glass of wine on the house.
Review 29:Parking for cars might be difficult, but was easy for us on Motorcycles (at the front door ! )
Review 30:Situation,bars/restaurants closeby ,nice easy - going atmosphere ,very pretty spot .
Review 31:The waiter strongly encouraged us (!) to have local pork and expensive tinto when we would have preferred fish and white wine. He was i am sure being helpful but the meat came badly undercooked and had to be returned. There were only 4 in the rstaurant and it certainly doesnt live up to the tripadvisor restaurant glowing reviews. The parador would have been a better bet to eat i think and not so much more expensive. Pity.
Review 32:Good position on square. Room basic but clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple but ok.
Review 33:El personal del hotel muy amable / Hotel staff members were really kind.
Review 34:Do Wi-Fi
Review 35:Smell from ensuite.
Review 36:Beautiful decorated hotel. Staff were friendly and caring. A real treat. Food wonderful and great presentation.
Review 37:Coffee at Breakfast
Review 38:good value for money.

Review 43:Everything was more than as expected. As a seasoned traveler that has stayed in many hotels, this was a pleasant surprise for the money!
Review 44:Staff were competent but not really friendly
Review 45:Comfortable with all you need in a great location.
Review 46:Nice location,and very clean.
Review 47:Noise - new year's festivities...
Review 48:Location. Staff very helpful. Excellent restaurant/bar. Good comfort. Proce.
Review 49:Poor wifi.
Review 50:Cozy and clean room in a well situated hotel. Nice atmosphere in the bar/restaurant on the first floor.
Review 51:hurried service
Review 52:location
Review 53:Staff and location
Review 54:A better breakfast
Review 55:Unfriendly staff. In our absence, they turned off the air condicioned of our room !! It was August and there was 40 degrees outside !
Review 56:Location.
Review 57:Room was fairly small, but very clean, and firm mattresses. There were some sewer smells from the bathroom (drains not properly installed??), so had to keep the bathroom door shut.
Review 58:Great location on the main square with access to public parking. Food (tapas) from their restaurant was excellent.
Review 59:On Saturdays, the plaza outside gets packed with people from town, eating "tapas", drinking beer, and making a noise most of the night.
Review 60:A large room, with a comfortable bed and a modern bathroom. Position good, except on Saturday. Reliable lift.
Review 61:The rooms have a low level of sound-proof.
Review 62:Real nice small Hotel, in the main square. It has a great restaurant. It was a really good surprise overall.
Review 63:Finding parking was a bit challenging on a busy weekend.
Review 64:I loved the location overlooking the Plaza, hearing the church bells. Small room, but with lots of charm.
Review 65:The room was not the one which was promoted via booking.com (with a view on the square) but with a window into an ugly backyard with air condition from the hotel kitchen, noisy and unpleasant. Problem with parking.
Review 66:Nice place on the main square, small city with very good vine bars and restaurants
Review 67:In some rooms the windows look at a courtyard with kitchen air conditioning systems - can be a problem if you want to leave windows open
Review 68:Very good location in the very heart of Zafra and quite nice rooms. Good balance of price and quality.
Review 69:Wifi non existent in the rooms and very unreliable in public areas. Non at all in breakfast room for example. Staff were not very helpful nor could they speak any english which made things a bit tricky. Parking is difficult.
Review 70:Good location. Very basic but very clean rooms. Near to some good restaurants.
Review 71:The air con unit which we needed for heating only worked intermittently.
Review 72:Situated on the main square with ample public parking. Nice bar and restaurant plus very pretty bedrooms. Bed very comfortable.
Review 73:There is paid parking in the plaza outside the hotel, but it was difficult to get to the plaza even with sat nav as a lot of the roads leading to it are blocked off due to pedestrianization, sort of one road in, one road out. Instructions as to which road to enter via would be usefull. In the end i parked outside the parador which is easy to find and walked the rest, about 400yds. Hot water in the room was luke warm at best, too cold for a shower in end of november. I did not bother to complain as i was only there for one night.
Review 74:Right in centre of town,£30 including dinner and breakfast, nice room (208) overlooking the plaza. Room was a good size, clean and warm and a comfy bed, nicely decorated.
Review 75:Parking right at the hotel would be a challenge but Zafra is a small town and we had no problems finding street parking in easy walking distance.
Review 76:Excellent location on the corner of a lovely square, spotlessly clean, firm but comfortable beds, very helpful staff. A delightful small hotel. We liked it enough to stay a second night. Breakfast was entirely different on Saturday from Friday (Friday was coffee/juice/toast in the bar, Saturday buffet in breakfast room) but both were fine.
Review 77:There was nothing we could fault with this hotel.
Review 78:We had a really friendly welcome when we arrived a little early. Our room was 208 and the best in the hotel with views over the Plaza!!! It was small, but beautifully furnished and decorated and the bed was really comfortable. We had a delicious dinner served outside on the Plaza - beautifully presented and with local ingredients. A great place to stay - in the evening Zafra came alive and had a wonderful atmosphere.
Review 79:the only thing is private parking is not available; but I do have to say that it's not difficult to find public parking somewhere near.
Review 80:very friendly staff, extremely clean hotel, nice decor, strong wifi
Review 81:Parking is at a premium & beware you have to pay at certain times. About €5 a day.
Review 82:Location in main historic plaza
Review 83:N/A
Review 84:wonderful location, close to main comercial areas and near to restaurants and bars.
Review 85:Nothing to dislike
Review 86:Helpful, friendly staff. Great location on the main plaza. Food from the restaurant excellent too!
