Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte

Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte descritpion
This 19th-century palace is surrounded by the ancient streets of Zafra. Now a luxury hotel, it was once the home to one of Spain’s most prestigious and aristocratic bull farmers.
The exquisite decor is themed on the world of farming and bullfighting, but also with a Victorian English touch – creating a unique venue for your visit to rural Extremadura. At its heart are the charming inner courtyard and the classic lounge, where you can relax with a good book by the fireside.
Enjoy yourself in the warm sunshine with a swim in the outdoor swimming pool, surrounded by an enchanting garden filled with traditional furnishings.
At the end of a relaxing day, enjoy a good night’s sleep in your spacious bedroom. Here you will find refined decor blending with modern amenities such as DVD players and minibars. Each room is named after a famous Spanish ranch.

Reviews for Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte
Review 1:MUST make reservation for car parking. VERY crucial!!!!!!!!!! Otherwise you will end up driving in circles. I wish it would be stressed in their listing. Recommended is NOT a fair warning. The evening receptionist was NOT that friendly. When they say roof - what they meant is you getting out of the elevator onto uncovered roof to get to your room. Imagine us with suitcases getting in and out.
Review 2:Location great. The receptionist in the morning was very nice and helpful,
Review 3:A very beautiful antique building which has been restored with very good and solid taste, without being heavy-conservative-old-fashioned (as in the Paradores). The floors in our room were pleasant old dark terracotta tiles, the window opened to a peaceful square. Staff is very helpful, also in recommending parking spaces.
Review 4:Everything about this small hotel was excellent. Staff so helpful, breakfast excellent, room and ensuite very clean and comfortable, location excellent, free and fast wifi. Staff organized 2 day trips for us with a local taxi as well. So enjoyable
Review 5:Quality of breakfast could be improved..
Review 6:Friendly staff. Delightful architecture and interior decor. Comfortable large bedroom. Quiet pool area. Luxurious lounge. Private secure parking nearby a plus.
Review 7:Cityy centre parking a challenge. Parked the car in the street in front of the hotel only to find it blocked in on the following morning.
Review 8:Lovely boutique hotel, lovely outside space and pool. Reception staff really nice and helpful. Very pretty room likea country cottage.
Review 9:A little hard to find, tucked away ! If you have any walking difficulties be carefull on the uneven cobbled street, I fell and hurt my knees !
Review 10:Loved the decor in our room which was very comfortable. Good old Spanish style, with a nice courtyard for breakfasting which was good and Spanish . Secure parking but chargable as extra.
Review 11:No menu for room service lunch or dinner (only continental breakfast) and no hot breakfast.
Review 12:Amazing rooms!! The building was beautiful and staff were really friendly and accommodating! Very much enjoyed our stay and would love to go back!
Review 13:Speed of and connectivity of Internet - but wasn't really an issue
Review 14:The friendliness of staff - made to feel really welcome and an oasis of tranquility and ambience. A true taste of Spanish opulence - muchos gratias!
Review 15:Zafra is a little gem and this hotel is a treasure. Very friendly and helpful staff, speaking good English. Good-sized rooms and a general atmosphere of tranquility and quiet well-being. Easy to find, being on the same plaza as the Ayuntamiento.
Review 16:Two lights over the sink in the bathroom were not working. Why can't hotel staff check such a small detail? Bath water came out brown at first!
Review 17:The house is gorgeous and so is the garden. Staying in it is a special experience. It's utterly tranquil. Very close to the twin squares in the historic centre of the town. Decent breakfast.
Review 18:Room smelled strongly of stale cigarette smoke. The door to the stairs down from the top floor was locked at night, so there was no way down except for the elevator - scary and could be life-threatening in an emergency if the elevator didn't work. The person who checked us in was very rushed and scatterbrained. He took our passports, led us (at a run) to our room and then left (with our passports). It seemed very unprofessional.
Review 19:Great location, lovely room and view from the roof. The woman who served breakfast and checked us out was very nice.
Review 20:A lovely building, a large quiet room with a very comfortable bed and a huge bathroom. Service from the ladies on the reception desk was great - breakfast was not due to begin until 8:00 am but they put it on for us at 7:30 am so we could get away to catch the morning train. I gather that taxis are pretty thin on the ground in Zafra at 8:15 am in February, but the lady managed to find one for us and we reached the station - at least half an hour's walk away - in time for our 8:43 am train. All in all, the best hotel of our trip.
Review 21:Our room was on upper floor, but you have to walk outside (on the terrace) to reach the room. The garage is in another nearby hotel
Review 22:Nice and large room.Clean room and bathroom.Good breakfast.Helpful staff
Review 23:No tea or coffee making facility in room.
Review 24:Have stayed several times. A good stop when crossing Spain.Good position on edge of historic old town. Excellent staff, comfortable beds. Understandably only standard rooms available if you have pets, but still comfortable.
Review 25:Don't like eating breakfast in so intimate surroundings with others.Maybe next time skip breakfast and go to local cafe. Zafra is beautiful.
Review 26:Loved the building, it's ambience and history. Immediately I feltthat I was a welcome visitor in someone's historic family home.Beautiful decor. Elegant furnishings and art. Must be superb in thesummer with use of the beautiful garden and pool.
Review 27:The roof rooms (regular rooms) are a bit more in need of some maintenance here and there. More importantly, reception for Wifi on the top floors gets a little dicey depending on where you are in the room.
Review 28:Great location and really excellent customer service - even better than many top hotels around the world. Added to the charm of the place, it is a very enjoyable and culturally rich place to stay.
Review 29:Our room was a little bit frayed around the edges.
Review 30:This is a lovely old hotel which thoroughly deserves its high ratings. Lots of character and terrific staff with a perfect location in the centre of Zafra. Secure parking a short walk away.
Review 31:As mentioned in a previous review breakfast is poor, some cereal, toast with ham or cheese or jam.for a hotel in this price category it should be better. Tea making facilities in room would be nice. No beer in mini bar in room, only soft drinks.
Review 32:Hotel easy to find with sat nav,on arrival reception directed us to free parking 200yds away. We had a suite on the first floor no 204 and it was fabulous. Beautiful antique furniture, massive bathroom with 2 sinks, walk in shower and spa bath, large comfortable bed, good air con and strong wi- fi in room. Best nights sleep i had in my week in spain. 2 minutes walk to plaza grande and plaza chica full of bars and restaraunts.
Review 33:For whatever reason I could not log in to the WiFi except on my smart phone, this hasn't happened anywhere else. The door to the room and the bathroom creaked very loudly, it matters if you need the bathroom overnight, a little oil would help. The Breakfast was odd, very limited and not explained, for example we opened some bottles of juice because there didn't seem to be anything else and then orange juice came to our table in a jug. The croissants seemed to be very old and crumbly, then toast arrived, we didn't know it was coming, some sort of note or menu at breakfast would help. The garage was at another hotel 200 metres away. However this is to help the hotel, don't let it stop you visiting, you'll like it.
Review 34:Other travelers have said fabulous, it's wonderfully different, room was great, much character and nothing like a formula hotel room, lovely sheets, very comfortable bed, room 302, we would certainly stay again and we want to spend more time in Zafra, it's a nice little town. Impressive entrance hall with a table rather than a desk, nice helpful staff, but not "fabulous".
Review 35:No parking
Review 36:Great location, friendly staff
Review 37:parking not available
Review 38:excellent facilities. good breakfast.
Review 39:No bar facilities - you have to go out if you want a drink and something to eat.
Review 40:Quality furnishings and great location.
Review 41:Poor breakfast.
Review 42:Fabulous suite
Review 43:confortable, tranquilo y exquisito.
Review 44:A lovely place to stay
Review 45:No bad experience
Review 46:Everything. The building the furniture the staff the garden what not???
Review 47:No coffee or tea making facilities in room
Review 48:Location good for all restaurants and the town
Review 49:Internet access to my room. I have not
Review 50:Location, staff, venue
Review 51:Poor coffee for breakfast. Receptionist recommended two restaurants for dinner, both of which were shut!
Review 52:Wonderful decoration, quiet location.
Review 53:No hot water until we requested it. One bedside light not working.
Review 54:Continental breakfast just as WE required.
Review 55:Loli was very helpful. Rooms very comfortable. Charming historic hotel in lovely town. Breakfast was very nice.
Review 56:Everything was absolutely fabulous, friendly staff, lovely rooms, great views and location
Review 57:2 problems with bathroom: door could not shut and shower screen inadequate. Wifi poor. Car parking a bit of a struggle.
Review 58:Nice big bedroom and bathroom with interesting views. Very central location. Reception staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 59:Zafra itself looked a bit run down in many of its streets and public gardens and lacked a decent choice in places to eat, apart from some fairly run of the mill bars and restaurants.
Review 60:A beautiful old Palacio in a pleasant square near the centre of Zafra. Lots of character (faded grandeur sums it up perfectly). Has a really pleasant garden.
Review 61:Breakfast was very poor even for the value price of this inn.
Review 62:Great slice of history to stay in the former town mansion of a famous breeder of bulls for bullfights -- lots of old photos on the walls.
Review 63:The goatskin rugs beside the beds!
Review 64:Our rooms were charming. Comfortable beds and very good air-conditioning! Small, ornate and authentic windows gave a picture view of the rooftops and specific landmarks. From the mirador there was a panoramic view reaching to the hills. The library is a quiet haven with comfortable chairs and sofas and coffee table books in all languages. The atmosphere is that of the faded grandeur of the building in its heyday, very relaxing and welcoming.
Review 65:Wifi reception in room not so good
Review 66:Excellent hotel, an old palace, decorated with very good taste, charming atmosphere, warm reception, professional service, excellent breakfast. Zafra is a very beautiful city, Will come back
Review 67:No English TV news channel.
Review 68:Quiet location, free, easy parking nearby. Feeling of a private house in the grand style of by-gone years. Large, comfortable bed in large room. Breakfast in a real dining room, served by a charming young lady.
Review 69:Fantastic room, 4,5 mtrs high. The Hotel has been the home of a Marqués. And later the hostage for all toreadors visting the area. So now it is a bit of a bullfightmuseum. It's really the Hotel to visit!
Review 70:Plumbing very noisy at night, breakfast a bit meagre. On very narrow street, hopeless for dropping off luggage or people. Parking a long walk away.
Review 71:Lovely old town house, room attractively decorated and comfortable. Beautiful garden and roof terrace. Very central position.
Review 72:The breakfast was very basic, which for a pity for such a grand residence.
Review 73:Beautiful renovated building, with large individually styled rooms. The free wifi and soft drinks from the mini bar were a plus. The hotel is located in the centre of Zafra and close to really good restaurants. I would like to visit in the summer as the patio area looked lovely.
Review 74:Nothing!
Review 75:The greeting from the manager, the work ethic of the staff. The room we had,as good as any Parador. The beauty of the building. We hope to be able to take some friends with us next time.Top class
Review 76:Beautiful historic building in the best location in town. No traffic. parking place outside hotel. warm(winter visit) and comfortable. Very good welcome including for dog of 25 kg. park for dog walk 400 yards away.
Review 77:Zafra is a very pretty town with a lovely main square and cathedral. Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte is a gem, a beautifully restored symmetrical square three storey building with a central glassed in courtyard and a very large patio garden; this divided into three parts with the central section covered by climbers and a raised seating area, a plunge pool to the left with sun loungers and on the right more garden with water features. We were traveling with our two dogs so stayed in room 303 on the top floor [lift] which was very rustic, attractive, spacious and comfortable with a large bathroom. Steps up from this level lead to a viewing platform with great views of the castle, the bell tower of the cathedral and several other churches. The hotel does not have a kitchen so breakfast is a buffet - and guests sit at a long table in the centre of the dining room. We were proudly [with justification] shown the bedrooms on the ground floor which were exquisitely furnished and decorated in a perfectly complementary style. The lounge was equally perfectly furnished and throughout there are memories and mid 20th century photos of literary greats and many others which reflected the owners' strong association with bulls. Outside in the triangular square is a pretty fountain - the sides similar in design to country bullrings. Uncontrolled street parking is no problem; the wifi is strong especially on the landing by the lounge [they have just changed internet provider and are looking to provide full wifi but the walls of the building are extremely thick]. Whilst there is no restaurant at the hotel the main square [a three minute stroll] is full of animated restaurant bars. Just off the main square we found a restaurant called the Don Quijote and we had a classic Spanish country meal. Perfect.
Review 78:That we didn't stay longer
Review 79:Beautiful old building, very friendly staff, right in the middle of the old town. Huge room with air con. Lovely breakfast.
Review 80:We didn't like that one of the two bedrooms reserved was of quite an inferior standard in comparison with the other bedroom even though both bedrooms had the same price
Review 81:We liked the centric situation and the charm of the hotel for being the former family home of a ganadero, designed and furnished with good taste.
Review 82:Superb hotel, very comfortable, traditional Spanish decor. We loved the 'Andalucian' influence. Great location for wandering around the lovely town of Zafra.
Review 83:Very disappointed in the breakfast. It merely consisted of tea/coffee, hot bread, a few 'mini-tins' of pate, marmalade and some shortbread biscuits. Would have expected a wider selection from a hotel of this standing.
Review 84:The architecture and grandeur of this hotel are outstanding. Rooms, patio, staircase, views all worthy of praise. All staff were extremely helpful and went out of their way to make our stay very pleasant.
Review 85:Cafe only open 7-10pm. Not keen on communal table for breakfast(but breakfast is available on the patio in the summer)
Review 86:Hotel totally secure 24 hrs. Staff attentive and friendly. Rooms well appointed. Central location. Garden was secluded and tranquil a lovely place to spend a peaceful hour or so. Breakfast served from 7 to midday.
Review 87:The front/main hall was a bit dreary and cold...Also, it was raining and the room from which to access our room was really wet, it seemed like there should be a cover or parasole for us not to get wet on the way in and out of our very beautiful room.
Review 88:The rooms are beautiful and very comfortable. It was very cozy and the complementry mini-bar was a nice touch. The breakfast was OK and the gardens were nice.
Review 89:I loved this hotel. It was originally a house belonging to a Spaniard involved in raising bulls for the bullfights and also training I would suspect. The rooms (of which there are not a lot) were stunning. Very secure. This was actually my favourite place that we had stayed in.
Review 90:Easy central location, 5 mins. to all restaurants, shops, etc. Large, stylish "old age" rooms: enormous bathroom. Beautiful decor, furniture, fabrics. Very attendant staff, courteous & willing to help. Free parking on street 5 mins. walk.
Review 91:A little difficult to find but worth the effort.
Review 92:A fabulous place. Rooms 103 and 203 are amazing. The staff are incredibly helpful and I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone.
Review 93:Parking 2-3 blocks away. On small square but all spaces taken our whole stay.
Review 94:Beautiful hotel, very centrally located. Staff Fernando & Pablo were very nice and very helpful. Breakfast in lovely dining room.
Review 95:Breakfast was a little simple
Review 96:Free Wifi in the hotel (didn't reach my room though) The architecture. The splendid covered courtyard in the middle of the hotel
Review 97:As it is off season we were upgraded to a superior room which is excellent with a huge bathroom and dressing room attached to the bedroom. The facilities, wifi and proximity to the old town is wonderful
Review 98:There is nothing not to love!
Review 99:The Casa Palacio is an amazing place to stay! If in Zafra, we would recommend this over the parador. We can't imagine the amount of money it cost to build and furnish this hisortic palace. We stayed in a superior room and it was worth every penny and more! The staff are efficient, courteous, helpful and very knowledgable about the town and surrounding area. We took more pictures of the massive suite complete with bedroom, massive bath and dressingroom than we did in all of Zafra!
Review 100:I really don’t want to add something negative, but if I have to, I would say: the WIFI reception is not available in your room. This is due to the original state of the building (thick walls). Nevertheless, WIFI is available in a SPLENDID salon on the first floor (the hotel has only 2 floors, so you’re never far from your room)
Review 101:We had a wonderful stay at Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte. The hotel is beautifully decorated and preserved in it’s original grandeur. The staff is absolutely wonderful, very friendly. Truly a gem !
Review 102:Nothing whatsoever
Review 103:Our stay in the Casa Palacio was highly pleasant. We had taken the suiteat a price we thought excellent value for money. It was large andcomfortable, overlooking the interior courtyard, with a spaciousbathroom and beautifully decorated with high quality antique furnitureas if the Count was still living there. The.experience is very homely. The hotel is situated not even 5 mins from the main plaza. Zafra is afine little town, very lively and authentic with pleasant plazas, fortified walls and gates and calm streets. The hotel has a quiet, intimate and shady interior garden with a very small pool allowing acooling dip and a variety of trees and plants.Breakfast is served in thegarden. The whole house is at your disposal. A jewel!
Review 104:A very charming hotel, very nicely decorated. The staff is veryfriendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to stay in atranquile place with plenty of history. Also, it is convenientlylocated, at a walkaway distance of restaurants and stores. The onlything I would point out would be the breakfast. It's a nicecontinental breakfast, but at this level and price (10€), I wouldexpect some more choice.
Review 105:We stop here for only 1 night. Zafra is a small town and it was a lovelysurprise. This hotel was a great choice. Beautiful andaluzian house, spacious rooms, great terrace in the top with great views to the cityand churches towers, and a swimming pool in a lovely and fresh garden.Friendly staff with good recomendations to what to see and where to eat.
Review 106:At Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte, the high standard of hospitality, sense of history, architectural elegance & charming garden were all enormously appealing characteristics. The Staff were superb in terms of their service ethic and friendliness. We felt pampered throughout our stay, and the breakfast buffet was absolutely magnificent! For those travelling by car, there was free parking on the street right outside the hotel. In terms of shopping in Zafra, luxury items were very well-priced, and there were also many fine dining and rustic dining options to choose from. At night, the main square in the historic area was wonderfully vibrant, and merely a short walk away from the hotel. We enjoyed a blissful stay at Casa Palacio Conde de la Corte, and we shall return in future. 10/10.
Review 107:Shower left a lot to be desired (although the bathroom was otherwiseexcellent).
Review 108:The ambience, lovely patio garden. Very helpful staff, genuinelyconcerned that we enjoy our stay. Room beautifully furnished in"noble style".
Review 109:We were delighted with the professionalism and great attitude of thestaff. The hotel lived up to it's reputation and we received the mostexcellent service.
Review 110:Fab. Superb historic building, great staff. We were lucky with parking outside but may need to be arranged at a sister hotel nearby. Very good breakfast and excellent staff.
Review 111:Parking in the street difficult as an old city with narrow alleys. But the hotel doses offer parking if needed.
Review 112:Peaceful. Interesting. Historic charm
Review 113:marginal wi-fi coverage (Only in the lobby). breakfast OK, but no more than that.
Review 114:location, character of the building, garden
Review 115:Wifi was only avaiable in the lobby but that wasn't such a big deal.
Review 116:A very well run and beautiful old hotel with excellent staff.
Review 117:Breakfast is not in line with all the rest, parking location
Review 118:Location, Decoration, staff
Review 119:Very friendly welcome and nice personnel.
Review 120:A"one off" but beautifully maintained period town house with very comfortable rooms and relaxing courtyard with pool..
Review 121:There was nothing to dislike
Review 122:The friendlyness of the staff. The opulence of the whole place.
Review 123:lack of parking facilities
Review 124:When we expressed our problems with ADSL access we were immediately offered another room.
Review 125:Air-con could have been better
Review 126:Excellent Staff Quality of room Great breakfast Smart and very comfortable
Review 127:Nothing.
