Reviews for Hôtel de l'Abeille
Review 1:Not a problem for us but steep stairs and no lift may be difficult for some. Breakfast could be improved by providing cereal bowls.
Review 2:The eclectic style of the property
Review 3:Such a charming and unique hotel. Our stay here was a highlight of our Loire Valley trip. Don't miss breakfast in their elegant and warm breakfast room. Perfect location. Two minutes from the train station.
Review 4:The bathroom was very small, and the sink was so tiny and hindered that it was almost impossible to use. Although the hotel is overall comfortable, it is really not worth 98 euros per night. Breakfast is definitely overpriced too (€ 12.50).
Review 5:Very kind staff, comfortable room, great position almost in front of the train station but also very close to the city centre.
Review 6:For older couple difficult staircase and no immediate parking facilities
Review 7:Very clean, excellent bathroom, nice staff, good location, very nice breakfast, free upgrade
Review 8:Most of the older staff made us feel like we were an imposition, not very welcoming at all.The staircase is ridiculous, very narrow, steep and a nasty curve in it luggage is a challenge so beware if you have more than a backpack!Very average breakfast and parking can be tricky because of the narrow streets.
Review 9:The location of the hotel was good.If you like old school charm this is for you, quite quirky.
Review 10:A lovely boutique hotel, very French in style with wonderful artefacts and antiquities to admire. Superior room was large and bed was very comfortable - everything was spotless and maintained to a high standard. Breakfast was very good, well presented and plentiful with nice linen and table settings. This small hotel is perfectly situated in a lovely area and easy to get to all attractions.
Review 11:Expensive breakfast option, parking a little tricky. You need to get instructions when you check in to find the underground parkade near by. As noted many times, no elevatorGod for overnight
Review 12:Close to train station
Review 13:Central location Helpfulness of Staff for example taking cases to rooms as there is no lift. Decor of rooms was amazing and the traditional aspect of the hotel.
Review 14:It was a good stay but overpriced - for what we paid I would have expected breakfast included at the least.
Review 15:A comfortable and sweet hotel with lovely staff.
Review 16:The hotel is on a busy street with a train that runs late/early. Drunk people screaming outside hotel.
Review 17:Beautifully decorated. Nice views of downtown. Close to transportation and restaurants. Lots of amenities.
Review 18:Impossible to have a lift "front of house" to climb to the upper floors, but surely there has to be a solution for travellers with heavy luggage that could be found "back of house", especially as the majority of clientele must be on the "more mature" side of the spectrum (was certainly the case on my visit)
Review 19:Great location, staff helpful and efficient, breakfast adequate. The entire decoration of the hotel and the individual room we stayed in was amazing.
Review 20:very limited drinks selection at the bar. wine menu very limited, breakfast not good value.
Review 21:The hotel was very traditional and homely. lots of restaraunts to choose from within walking distance, nice way to start a family holiday and a nice way to end it. perfect half way location if travelling south west.
Review 22:Steep stairs and no elevator make large suitcases a challenge. The parking situation was also tricky, but it all worked out well.
Review 23:Great location, comfortable bedroom, nice balcony. And we loved Orleans!
Review 24:The bathroom light sensor is a bit of a pain, turns light off when having a bath, makes reading your book rather difficult! Could do with extending the time the lights stay on!!
Review 25:Amazing location, wonderful decor & ambiance. The stuff is very nice, the rooms are spacious and have super antique furniture. The reception are and the small terrace are perfect for summer days. The breakfast was good, though not enough food provided on time. The internet is working fast, however sometimes is shutting down. We would definatelly choose this hotel if we come back to Orelans.
Review 26:Nothing,
Review 27:This hotel was ideally located within orleans, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful to a couple that know very little French,a very loverly hotel.
Review 28:Staff is not very welcoming;; receptionist behaved rather like a school-master; As the hotel has no lift, the staff should offer help with the luggage; Breakfast buffet is very misery and makes a bad impression, everything seems to be limited and the presentation is very bad for a hotel of this category.
Review 29:Cleanliness, closeness to the city centre, the boutique style of the room, the interior which is kept with taste and love.
Review 30:Our bedroom was small, hot.NO air con just a tiny fan that didnt do 5he job. Shower room tiny. Had to step outside bathroom to dry yourself. I also ask if i could borrow an iron to iron an outfit for the eve as we were travelling by motorbike... They said they couldnt help me.... Really no iron in the hotel! !!
Review 31:The location & decor
Review 32:This place was fantastic. Obviously well cared for, beautifully decorated. Overall lovely. Staff was helpful and courteous. We needed to dismantle our bikes and they lent us a tool.
Review 33:The steep stairs although did offer with luggage. no parking on site. Parked in road approx 10 euros a day
Review 34:We liked the quirky decor and hidden roof garden
Review 35:The close proximity to the tramlines which thankfully didn't run through the night but they were noisy early in the morning.
Review 36:the original features in the hotel: the decor, the furnishings, the architecture of the building, the close proximity to the centre of Orleans.
Review 37:Delightful to be able to stay in a hotel that isn't part of a chain. The furnishings and decor were tastefully traditionally French style - but the bathrooms are modern. It was refreshingly informal and relaxed and located a few minutes walk from the main square and cathedral on a street of nice shops. Plenty of choice of restaurants and bars in that area. We were able to street park very close to the hotel but there is parking in front of the hotel to unload luggage. A perfect overnight stay in an interesting city.
Review 38:I couldn't work the soap dispenser and I was a little worried that the curtains in the bathroom were transparent especially when the light was on.
Review 39:Great location with proximity to station and easy access to the old town. I loved the decoration... The toile and the curtains with the bee motifs. The bathroom facilities were 1st class but the lack of toiletries was disappointing.
Review 40:The stairs, but what do you expect for a hotel of this age. If you can not manage stairs you are warned!
Review 41:Beautiful decor. Friendly and helpful staff. Wonderful position
Review 42:This is such a sweet, friendy hotel. It is perfectly situated 2 minutes from the station and 5 minutes walk from the cathedral, plus there is a tram stop close by if you are tired. The room was very pretty and we had a fantastic balcony overlooking the street - perfect for people watching. We had their bargain priced evening meal one night when too tired to venture out and it was delicious.
Review 43:The helpful and friendly staff. One even took my case up to to my room on the 3rd floor after I checked I after a long journey from Warwickshire. The lovely reception area. Comfortable settees. 4 daily newspapers to choose from. Very good coffee at breakfast and the staff willingly provided you with a second cup of coffee if you asked for it. I paid a total of 60 extra Euros for a 3 night stay before I arrived to have a more luxurious room. Room very nice and the bathroom was superb.
Review 44:The parking situation is a bit stressful. They use a paid parking which is a bit far and not easy to get to. We ended up parking on a nearby street instead.
Review 45:Clean cozy corner room with small balcony, lovely decor, comfortable bed, big bathroom with bathrobe, slippers, etc.
Review 46:Breakfast is of a good standard with nice organic jams and even some cheese, fruit and yoghurts. However it is not the case that every guest will want one piece of baguette and one large croissant so it may be better to have these for guests to serve themselves rather than have these already laid out on the plates. We had mixed experience with the staff. One was extremely friendly and helpful, the other was efficient but not at all warm. Parking overnight is possible nearby but the new tramway has changed the road layout so it can be difficult to get to. Best to get precise directions from the hotel for your first visit. Also a caution for the less able-bodied - there is no lift and the stairs are steep.
Review 47:Hotel L'Abeille is very long established but does not rest on its laurels. Even since our last visit a couple of years ago, rooms have been redecorated and refurbished and there are new touches such as bathrobes and slippers provided. This comes at a price that seems to go up substantially every visit, but it is worth it for such a nice experience. We particularly like that each room is individually decorated with antique furniture, and we were pleased to see the notes telling us about the furniture and wallpapers (they must have had a lot of questions from guests!) Location wise it is within 5 or 10 minutes of all the sites and restaurants and bars in the central area. This remains far and away our favourite choice of hotel in Orleans.
Review 48:We found parking on the street beside the hotel, but parking could have been tricky otherwise, which is to be expected in a major town. Some may find the stairs tricky, but we just took overnight bags up.
Review 49:We loved the decor - the historic posters and antique furniture. The hotel was really very charming and the staff friendly. The location was fantastic - a short walk to to centre of town. Breakfast was good.
Review 50:Bed was comfortable and I had a really good night's sleep. Good bathroom. Was very close to Orleans sites. Very close and convenient to train station but in a quieter road.
Review 51:Staircase very steep with shallow steps. Lack of a lift.
Review 52:Location and ambience lovely so we would return to visit our daughter and recommend to her friends parents to use as well
Review 53:A room over looking the Main Street can be a bit noisy. On Friday night ...bin collection, trams and some noisy revellers
Review 54:Lovely big room, which was very comfortable. Huge ensuite bathroom. Good wifi connection and lovely breakfast
Review 55:Each time we went out, there was the stairs to contend with; we were on the 3rd floor and the stairs are semi spiral. we were assisted upstairs with our luggage, which we appreciated. but there is no lift.
Review 56:we enjoyed a quiet room , as requested. the room was spacious with a kingsized bed that was wonderfully comfortable.
Review 57:If one opens the bathroom door, the light goes on automatically. This is a bit bothering at night, since there is no possibility to switch off this display.
Review 58:The particular atmosphere of the place + a tasty breakfast
Review 59:Difficult to find with an old sat nav due to the tram system, which if you are unfamiliar with it, could cause a bit of a headache!
Review 60:Upgraded to a lovely room with excellent shower. Superb location close to the old town with its restaurants and bars. Excellent breakfast in wonderful surroundings. Very friendly staff, with excellent English language skills. Would definitely return if in Orleans as it made an ideal overnight stopover.
Review 61:Nothing....but a warning to those with low mobility- narrow stairs are the only way up- no lift.
Review 62:members of owning family actively involved in management - available, caring and interested. Able to help with any problem. Historic yet very comfortable Great location - easy walk to old centre.
Review 63:We liked everything. Not sure if the hotel offers rooms to people with limited mobility so worth checking (we were told in advance that we had no lift for our room), but otherwise I'd recommend this hotel to anyone.
Review 64:Everything. A perfect combination of history coupled to modern comforts and facilities. Lovely quirky decor, excellent breakfast, easy Wifi access, welcoming hosts, great location... would not want to stay anywhere else in Orleans.
Review 65:Not so much a dislike but we were on the top floor so if you have large cases the absence of a lift means that it is hard work negotiating the staircases!
Review 66:Welcoming staff Homely atmosphere Comfort and cleanliness
Review 67:It was almost perfect.
Review 68:Every room was different and totally unique. The hotel was well situated in town and within walking distance of all the lovely squares.
Review 69:We were very lucky with street parking although not guaranteed and no hotel car park.
Review 70:We loved the individual contemporary style of each bedroom as well as the roof top garden. The staff were very helpful, friendly and patient with our slow and deliberate French! The communal areas were comfortable but rather limited so our one night stay was just right. The breakfast was excellent as was the hotel's overall value for money. Would definitely recommend L'Abeille and Orleans, and would visit again
Review 71:A short drive from Paris- Orleans was a perfect starting place for our week in France. This lovely little Inn was conveniently located and well appointed. The staff were friendly and the breakfast included delicious fresh brewed coffee. I would recommend it to anyone staying in Orleans
Review 72:Wifi reach on top floors. no lift, so some caution on reaching top floor via stairs if you have health issues
Review 73:baroque interiors, nicely done. good quality stay, decent alternative breakfast, enjoyable staff. very nice roof garden !!
Review 74:poor parking, tiny room, no lift and narrow stairway.
Review 75:Great location just near the historic area, and Joan of Arc's statue. Clean bathroom, nice breakfast
Review 76:Staff was friendly and helpful. The location was in the heart of the shopping district, close to restaurants and bars. Breakfast was served promptly.
Review 77:Missing elevator, easy access to roof top and the panache of yesteryear when this must have been quite an establishment.
Review 78:Great location, very clean, as long as you are on the premier stage.
Review 79:Location - it's not easy to drive to the hotel given its location in the old town. Noise - Since its an old house, its very noisy with floor creaks and door shrieks - we had trouble sleeping as people moved about on the top floors. No A/C in the july heat - even fans weren't helpful
Review 80:The hotel is a old house, which is beautiful and they have maintained it very well. The rooms and bathrooms are upgraded and meet all your needs.
Review 81:- automatic light in the bathroom (gets on in middle of night when you do not want and off every 5min when you use the bathroom in the morning) - important to know : no lift in hotel - front desk guy at night not very welcoming - not proposed renewal of hot drink at breakfast every day
Review 82:- very nicely renovated, each room has a distinct atmosphere - nice terrace on the roof - breakfast enjoyable - many great places to visit in the area - overall very pleasant stay
Review 83:No parking nearby that was easy to find.
Review 84:Everything, it was so very clean, the breakfast was a dream and the staff so helpful and friendly even though our French was lamentably poor. A darling quirky hotel that I would recommend to anyone
Review 85:We were given a fourth floor room and the receptionist helped take our bags, only within seconds of us getting into the room we were guven a different first floor room and he came straight back to help move the cases down, there was no complaint and the staff went out of their way to make our stay comfortable. What a beautiful hotel.
Review 86:On-street parking only. Steep staircase to our room. The shower head kept sliding down to waist height.
Review 87:Convenient location, pleasant and very helpful staff. Charming decor.
Review 88:Stairs are a bit of a challenge with heavy bags!
Review 89:Good central position and a lovely roof garden with views. We carried our drinks up and sat and watched the sunset. The wonderful bee themed decoration throughout the hotel. Helpful staff and bays for uploading baggage just outside the hotel made our arrival with bikes easier.
Review 90:Location; traditional décor; very homely but also very chic.
Review 91:Style of the rooms
Review 92:Location, atmosphere
Review 93:Lack of parking
Review 94:Very central location. Hotel itself is unique and delightful.
Review 95:The cleaning is not so great.
Review 96:The location is really great! Near all the places you'll need to visit. The staff is totally friendly and helpful.
Review 97:Historical, beautiful, close to train and historic district.
Review 98:The room was actually too small, especially the bathroom.
Review 99:Great town. Excellent reception staff and owner
Review 100:no lift
Review 101:near to centre
Review 102:The dedication to environmental issues was good. The truly old, antique or reproduction furniture added great ambience to the Hotel.
Review 103:Uniquely furnished with antiques and well situated for old town, river and shops
Review 104:No lift. Everything else was fantastic.
Review 105:Nothing
Review 106:The quirkiness of the hotel. The friendly, helpful and hard working staff. The position of the hotel in Orleans

Review 117:Pictures, tradition
Review 118:Fantastic
Review 119:We knew there was no elevator, which was fine with us, but could be a serious inconvenience for some.
Review 120:Great breakfast room and lovely boutique hotel situated right in the centre
Review 121:If you are driving, it was hard to access because of their local transit rails.
Review 122:Great hotel! Staff was friendly and helpful. Location is excellent.
The Fine Print
Please note that the hotel does not have an elevator.
